I called a bunch of exterminators and got a quotes in the 300$ range just to come out and do an inspection and initial exclusion, and they were booked out weeks! Tina texted me back within a couple hours and let me know she could come out next day and provide a free assessment, how could I say no! She was exactly on time and on the walk to my front door hard already spotted some problem areas where the house wasn't sealed securely. She was even super sweet to my toddler, who was having a meltdown. She offered to complete her inspection, cover the problem areas with thick stainless steel grate and set traps all for an extremely reasonable price and she was willing to start right away. I, of course, said yes. She took care of 7! problem areas and even shored up a foundation vent she thought might be vulnerable to raccoons, since I had mentioned we had a problem with them. She answered all my questions and even showed me the safest way to clean up the droppings. She even remembered my kids names and said goodbye to them on her way out. It's been a month since Tina came out and we have not seen a single dropping or heard any scurrying since. I am so grateful we went with her and were able to close the door on that horrible rodent situation so quickly and easily! Thank you to Tina and Ted My house is over a hundred years old and in a semi rural setting on the coast. I have had intermittent mouse problems over the years but kept it under control with traps and checking for and blocking entry points. Last winter I had a plumbing failure caused by a rat in the walls! I was so glad a friend recommended Tina. Her assessment of entry points was spot on. she spotted places I never even thought to look and came back a couple of days later with her son and blocked all the entry points and set traps under the house. She caught two large rats within a few days and thought that would be the end of my troubles. she was correct. It is a few months later and my house is free of rodents. 2.5 Stars. I really wanted to like Ted and Tina, but the experience could have been much better. The deal: My house was overrun by fuzzy little bastards. Despite our being very clean, the huge construction project next door had shaken all the mice into my apartment. : / They were climbing through the walls and under my bed at night, and it was awful. I scoured yelp and called a million pest control services and settled on these guys -- because they could fit us in soon, because they sounded knowledgable, and because they said they were willing to inspect and seal the *inside* of my house (in addition to the outside,) which, strangely, few pest control agencies in this city will do. Star breakdown: Plus 2 stars Because our mouse problem was 70% resolved in the long run. Plus .5 star Because they fit us in their schedule and made an accommodation for me (sealing my small home's interior). Minus .5 star They sealed only ~50% of my home's interior trouble-spots -- missing some of the main mouse entry-ports. I ended up patching the rest myself. Minus 1 star They were unable to come in the following three weeks for their any of their three follow-up visits (to clean traps and check on things). Meanwhile, my house smelled like a giant Mickey Mouse funeral apocalypse. I felt like I was keeping the incense industry alive. Minus 1 star Ted DID "try" to come for one follow-up. He called spontaneously to say he'd in the neighborhood 9.30a the next day and could swing by. I told him he could come any time after 11a, as I had an a.m. phone conference. He was annoyed he couldn't come over when he wanted, and then told me he "couldn't wait to get our job over with." I had been nothing but nice to them, and found that upsetting. ...When I reached out to Tina to let her know this happened, she ignored my message. Thusly... Effectiveness: good (combined with some of my own work and patching) Follow-ups: nonexistent Customer service: not great In short... The job ended up running $1-1.5k (for the whole building), which should've lined their pockets fine, and merited good customer service and a smooth transaction. The later, it did not. However, we're seemingly free-ish of gnawing, scratching, scrambling little fuzz-buckets, for now. read more

Tim from Dirty Rats saved us when we were renting in Mill Valley. We had such a horrible rat problem - they ate through the wiring behind the refrigerator, the oven, the washer and dryer, and we were afraid to go in the kitchen after 9pm. If I could give Tina 6 stars, I would. Tina is professional, hardworking, knows her stuff, and GOT RID OF OUR MICE that had previously been overrunning our apartment. For this I will be forever grateful. Mice were everywhere. We had no idea how they got in and apparently they had bred in our closet so there were tons of babies. I was a wreck. I was literally in tears with Tina on the phone, begging her to help us get rid of these mice that were leaving their poops behind my BED! my BED! EWWWW! And in the kitchen too. Our landlord had tried to get rid of the mice for several weeks without hiring an exterminator, and nothing was working. I was not comfortable being at home! It was so gross! Once I heard Tina's calm voice on the phone saying, "I'll take care of you," I was immediately reassured. It sounded like she had seen even worse than what I was describing! She arrived bright and early in the morning, right on time, and got right to work! She was on the floor, ducking behind corners and fearlessly poking her hands into the holes the mice had been traveling in. She even discovered where the mice had been entering -- they had gnawed a hole in the bottom of our back DOOR and made their way in that way! Tina explained everything as she did it and reassured us that we had done everything right (sealed, thick plastic tupperware or glass containers for all food, etc.) She secured all the tiny holes /possible mouse superhighways in our apartment with her drill and a bunch of intense wire mesh. Then she even went downstairs and secured the areas in the garage and alleyway where mice could have been entering. After Tina left, we said thank you and goodbye, and our mouse problem DISAPPEARED! She solved it for us! Thank you, thank you a millon times over, Tina! You helped me and my wife so we could live in peace again (without mice!) When you hire someone to get rid of rats and they don't, you're kinda forced to give them a low rating. After several attempts on their part to figure things out, they eventually threw up the white flag and asked that I work with someone else to come and check things out -- I think just to vindicate their assessment that there was no other possible way a rat could still be lurking in the house. All it took was for me to go into the crawl space and setting rat traps where I continually told them I heard the noises and within a few days, I caught the rat myself. It's been about a month now and thankfully, no more late night scratching noises. Sure they rat proofed the house and possibly prevented any of future rat AirBnB situations. That is something I could not have done so easily. Interestingly, I also didn't appreciate the way the owner seemed to doubt what we were even hearing. She thought maybe we were hearing scratching from outside the house from a raccoon or perhaps we were hearing termites. Really? Who's ever heard of being able to hear termites? Just to be certain, I checked the Internet's source of truth, and this is what Wikipedia had to say: "The noises termites make are faint and rarely heard. You would need a stethoscope to hear termites at work." Believe me, when you hear scratching in the walls and the noise goes away when you bang on the wall. And then if you're quiet for a few minutes and you start hearing the scratching in the wall again, you pretty much know its definitely a rodent in the wall - and not termites. They were nice about it all but I think I became "that client" because I kept calling that the rat was still around and asking them to come over and check things out again. But hey, the rat proofing and the 1-year of service was what I paid for, so I didn't have any qualms about being "that client". I will say that they were able to inform me that there was a pool of water under the house that probably came from a busted pipe - which is probably why the rat came and was able to stay alive so long since it couldn't get out anymore from the rat proofing. The good news is that I now have a great referral for a plumber in the area! read more

We inherited a rat infestation and had two exterminators out, neither of which was successful. Then came Dirty Rats. They were much more thorough and attacked the problem in creative ways by thinking like a rat. They identified problem spots around the perimeter of our house that the others had overlooked and got us quick results. They also came back out three times so far, to check on their work and ensure the property was still secure. Because of how our property is laid out we probably won't ever be able to keep the rats out from under our deck but I feel confident they won't be getting into the house now. Thanks, guys! read more

I had rats. At least one had died under my sub-floor. It had begun to smell. It wasn't the first time and I was frustrated.. :-/ I called Dirty Rats and they were there in the morning the next day. They confirmed the rat problem by showing me the rat 'droppings' and found the entry points into my home. They gave me a quote to cover the vents and set traps. My contractor thought the amount was reasonable and I went with it. They also sprayed something that helped control the smell of the dead rat. They came back for a follow up visit a week later and no rats had been caught in the traps. It looks like the rat proofing has worked so far. read more

Mice invaded my house. Dogs were useless in helping the situation. I called Dirty Rats. They came out and charged me $75 for an inspection which was very thorough. They seem to have misplaced my email address but did personally drop off an estimate. I'm still figuring out whether to use them only because it seems a bit steep given that mice are notoriously persistent and ingenious when it comes to home invasion. For now, the mice continue to party in my house. I only gave them 3 stars because my experience with them was limited to the inspection. read more

These guys were great. We had a rodent problem, and they were here next day. The guy was thorough in blocking off entries for the critters, and we have not had a problem since. They also gave us a really good briefing on what to do in controlling a rat problem -- keeping things clean, keeping the dog dish rat free, what works with traps, etc. They were also lower cost than the other folks we called. We had been hearing scratching noises in our attic for some time, and finally called Dirty Rats to come check it out. They did a great job looking all around the house to find openings and plugged them all up. They even looked on the roof, at the vents, and found that rats enter the area through the slats of the vent (apparently rats can flatten their body and squeeze into tight places that would otherwise seem too small to fit through). Dirty Rats opened one of the vent and smelled the rats, found some old traps, and noticed the area wasn't screened. So, they put 4 traps in the attic, screened the area, and came back a week later. Not surprisingly, they found a dead rat! We haven't heard any scratching noises up in the attic since, and are really glad to be rid of the pest. Dirty Rats did a great job. I had a difficult time trying to find someone to come out to the city of Hercules, One exterminator was located in Berkeley 8 miles away but said that was out of his jurisdiction (he must not have a car) Terminix agreed but didn't show up. I was pleasantly pleased when they showed around the the time they said they would versus a 4 hour window like many other contractors. I thought I had rat or a squirrel up in the attic but it ended up being pigeon's but no problem they began to take care of the situation right away. Came back another day and made sure I wouldn't have that problem again. Also checked back a few days later to make sure everything was OK. read more

I am a realtor and recently called Dirty Rats when one of my clients needed an inspection ASAP. I called Dirty Rats to see what their availability was and within minutes they called me back with an appointment for late in the day the following day. They are extremely responsive but more importantly, they are extremely honest. My client and I loved their pro-customer attitude. They will even go out and do inspections for realtors without charging for the initial inspection. Other inspections can cost several hundred dollars up front! These "Dirty Rats" are fabulous! We knew our house had a rat problem when we bought it, but we had no idea, they'd still be there after we gutted all the bathrooms, the kitchen and the garage, repaired all the 'doors' they'd created in the walls and floors, tented and re-did the floors, but they're still scampering away in the walls...sigh. I called Dirty Rats yesterday afternoon, Tina (?) was at my house this morning at 6:30 am(!) I think this must have been one of the worst cases she's seen in a while, because she said it would be cost-prohibitive to fix (might as well spend the money replacing all of the exterior siding which is completely gobbled by rats) and told me to have my husband call her - she'd tell him exactly what he needed to (quick and dirty) do to stem the tide of vermon entering our home - which she did - early this afternoon. I'm sure they would have done the job, but I love the fact that they walked away from it, because putting a band-aid on a much bigger problem would be a total waste of our money. I'd thought we had one rat but it turned out there were 5-6. They were going through the walls from attic to basement. Yuck! I saw one coming up from the basement trying to get to the dog food. That was when I called Dirty Rats. They came right away, where others were going to take a couple weeks to even come out. Dirty Rats helped solve our rat problem quickly and effectively! Tina and her sons were GREAT! They came in, sizing up the locations where critters could get in, sealed them, set the traps [which I can't do - I'd already tried the "have a heart" traps but to no avail]. Then they returned to remove all the victims of the traps. I didn't even had to see them. They made the whole thing look so easy! There may be cheaper but none better. Why aren't there more reviews for this company? After calling around and talking to a variety of different folks, I thankfully connected with Tina to help us do a little maintenance work on our place to address some rodent activity. It was something that needed to get done long ago and I finally was ready to have someone deal with it. She came out and evaluated the situation inside and out, going beyond the known troubled spots and looked out for any others that could be an issue. Feedback, pointers, tips and stuff for me to keep an eye on in the future were also part of her service. Clear and easy communication along with a friendly demeanor made for an overwhelming positive experience. While we used Dirty Rats for our rat issue, I'd recommend reaching out for questions re. any other critters that might plague you, as she might have resources and solutions to deal with other animals. Will definitely tell friends and neighbors that this is one person that should be on your list of workers to call on when you need a solution to this type of problem. read more

I am beyond disappointed with Tina. Our initial consultation went so well. She seemed knowledgeable and kind. She told me they would return periodically to check the status of the traps and the proofing. However, she did not honor our one year contract and her end of the deal was to hold up a one year warranty. While she did come back a few times when I called (maybe a handful of times), she did not find any new entry points and did not catch a single mouse. One year later, the problem is not resolved and if anything, it is worse. I've had to hire two other people to check her work ... a handyman and another exterminator. When I contacted her to return, she seemed annoyed each time and this last time, her response was that they have come at least 5 times and that it is just as much my responsibility. I am appalled and disappointed that she refuses to acknowledge that there are problems in the traps she laid (nothing was caught), we have no food source available to the pests, and there are gaps in the areas where she set out wire mesh to prevent entry. I am out nearly $400 (not to mention the fact that I have to pay a handyman and another exterminator) and she refuses to reimburse me for anything. Save your money and hire someone else. read more

I was referred to Dirty Rats by a friend in the South Bay who told me she had heard great things from many people. I had a problem about 5 years ago with mice and after two failed attempts by Orkin, Tina came out - sealed up the house and set traps. Problem was resolved and never returned. I would HIGHLY recommend Ted and Tina from Dirty Rats. They responded to my inquiry the very same day. I had used Western Exterminators a few months earlier for a problem with rats in my attic. They seemed to get rid of them but then they came back. Dirty Rats came out and completely rat PROOFED my attic. They removed the insulation that had been destroyed by the rats.
