    Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookie (3.00)

Who doesn't love a cozy cafe? I know that I'm always on the lookout for a comfortable spot to get a nice coffee and some tasty treats. Dirtbag Café is pretty unique because you'll find them located inside of a rock climbing gym in Central McDougall (just north of downtown) called Boulders Climbing. So if you're into rock climbing and cafes, this is truly the place for you. VUE Weekly voted Dirtbag Café as #1 Best Coffee Shop 2018 and #1 Best Chili 2018. However, much to my dismay, they no longer sell the chili. I visited the cafe for lunch on a chilly Thursday afternoon and was immediately enveloped by the warmth of the space upon entering. The cafe is quite large and streams of sunbeams pour in from all of the windows. There are plenty of tables as well as comfy couches for seating, tons of mixed wood, pops of turquoise, and edison bulbs hanging from everywhere. The space is extremely bright and there are live plants... It's all very fresh and lovely. When you're inside of the cafe section you would never know that there is a climbing gym just around the corner. We paid a visit to the counter to place our order, then grabbed a table. The staff was friendly and it wasn't long before our drinks were up and our food began to arrive. First: coffee. The cafe makes a bunch of smoothies but I was definitely in a coffee mood and went straight for the Mocha ($5.25 for small), which is always my jam. First of all, their mugs are adorable and I loved the perfect branding. Secondly, this was a great coffee! It wasn't too sweet and I liked the robust, creamy flavour from the coffee and chocolate. I'm no coffee expert but I can usually tell when a coffee is "good." This one was very nice and I would certainly order it again. Dirtbag gets their coffee from Roasti Coffee Co. in Sherwood Park and I absolutely appreciated seeing that they're using a local roaster for their beans. I feel like Edmonton has really stepped up its coffee game in recent years and it's very cool to see. Next, because I couldn't have chili, I wanted to try something that was more of a full-on food item. The Breakfast Sandwich (Egg and cheese on our house-baked cheddar chive biscuit - $5.00) seemed like a great option and quite unique to the cafe itself. You could also add bacon for $1, which I went ahead and did. This was a great breakfast sandwich. It came out warm and the biscuit really was the star. Soft and crumbly, I loved the texture and the big cheddar flavour was totally there. A breakfast sandwich on a biscuit is just good!! Inside was a cheesy, fluffy egg and salty cured bacon. The sandwich was simple but really gave me everything that I could have possibly wanted. Plus the price is pretty reasonable. I'd grab one of these any day. Lastly, I wanted to try something sweet and was easily sold on the Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookie ($3.00). This was a good cookie. Soft and chewy, with little crunches of peanuts throughout. I liked the added oatmeal for texture and the whole thing was packed with peanut butter flavour, which I love. You can't go wrong with a solid cookie like this. I enjoyed my visit to Dirtbag Café a lot. Their laid-back and comfortable atmosphere is almost the best part because it really feels like a place that you can settle into. The coffee was very good and so was the food. I would like to see a bit more for food options (bring back the chili so that I can try it!) but I would also say that they're doing a pretty great job with what they have right now. This is a perfect spot for a cozy afternoon and worth a try.

This place is optimal chill. Let's talk about the fact that they've combined a bouldering gym with a cute cafe right behind Grant MacEwan - so strategic to give today's youth a nice place to hang out. They are well set up to accommodate large study/chill time groups with large tables and movable chairs. I had a pumpkin spice latte with their house-made syrup which was delicious, so delicious that my mom got one herself when she came to pick me up after having a sip of mine even though she was in a rush. I like their branded goods too. I find it quite ironic that they call themselves dirtbag cafe because I feel like the crowd that frequents the establishment is indeed not dirtbaggish in any way.

A really cool place to grab a coffee or something small to eat. We went there after rockclimbing and got a couple smoothies. They were good. I was also impressed their unique menu and that they had many healthy, vegetarian options. Some other menu items are smoothies, cookies, energy balls, salads etc. Their coffee is pretty delicious too. I also like how they only carry independent craft beer from Alberta and BC. I would definitely recommend checking this place out

    Breakfast sandwich.
 (biscuit 2" diameter)

Ordered the breakfast sandwich which was really tasty but extremely high priced for what you get. Drip coffee was good but not too sure about the cleanliness of the place. Staff was okay. Not very friendly though. I would go back for the coffee but not for the food.

Tucked behind Grant MacEwan, it is certainly a cozy corner to find a great cup of espresso-based coffee or a homemade treat!

I had to go down to the restaurant to book the party and a second time to confirm the reservation, 2 days before the party. Service was good except we were rushed out of the restaurant after 2 hrs due to the staff needing tables for reservations after our group. Food presentation is top notch however the food itself is very mediocre for the price. I was also not impressed that they would not allow me to bring in our own birthday cake even though our total bill was close to $800. I give this restaurant a 3/5 stars

We both ordered the Seaside Benny & hash browns; over medium which should have been 50/50 yolk set / yolk runny. Hashbrowns were just meh, the typical bagged cubes from Sysco & deep fried. Hollandaise was sparse and not really enough to even cover the also sparse seafood mixture (with canned crabmeat for $28?!?!) on plain bread (not brioche & not an English muffin). Better breakfast can be had at other places for sure. Service was fine but definitely a one time & one time only visit to channel the girly side. There was an extra jewelry / trinkets / gift merchandise selection for girls / women of all ages on display at the front. We both had $9 specialty coffees: a salted caramel pumpkin spiced latte & a cinnamon bun latte.

Before opening up this coffee stand, Lui Chi's was already established as a small coffee cart so it's very exciting to have them inside and available in a fixed spot. The coffee here is definitely unique as the whisky barrel aging adds a little bit of bite and a lingering aftertaste. I personally love the roast here but it's definitely unconventional. Each drink is made to order with options ranging from your standard americano to lattes featuring in-house made syrups. In addition to coffee, they also have some baked treats sourced from Arno's. Arno's is another local favourite of mine and it's dangerously delicious to have these baked treats available downtown when I could usually only get them at the farmer's market. The brass fixtures and steampunk-esque aesthetic go well with the fresh smell of their uniquely roasted beans. The cafe is in the lobby of an office building so it's not a super intimate venue but I definitely appreciate the thoughtful decoration they've added to the coffee stand. Overall, this is a nice new addition to the downtown coffee scene and I know I'll be a frequent guest here.
