DirectDerm is a great example of streamlining appointments with telehealth. Being able to do consults online saves time and gas. When it comes to in-person visits, Dr. Wong is patient and listens, and is very knowledgeable about skin conditions. I believe many of these bad reviews are old and geared towards the call center. The office staff is helpful and you can see them constantly moving about to help the doctors and patients. The Manteca office now has a laser for eczema, vitiligo, and psoriasis. It's worth inquiring about, especially since the office handles insurance authorization.

My main issue is that this office has always felt like a money-grab. The office often recommended additional tests and appointments that did not seem necessary. Although I understand the value of Ni-Ox and lung function assessments, the repeated testing rarely resulted in meaningful adjustments to my treatment plan. Appointments frequently ended with vague feedback rather than clear next steps for improvement. During one visit, I had a reaction to the shots, which was a stressful situation. The staff appeared uncertain about how to respond, and Dr. Zhang invited a medical assistant to observe my hives without asking for my consent. This was uncomfortable and dehumanizing. Additionally, I received the bill for this appointment and they charged me for a lung function test I did not take. I contacted the billing department who said they would call me back. I never received a call back despite following up. I check today to see they have revised their billing statement to deduct that charge. Very shady business that prioritizes money over patient care. I am now seeing a new allergist who looked at my tests and said that allergists should not be administering shots to people with numbers as bad as mine were.

I had an extremely frustrating experience with South Bay Allergy & Asthma Group. I scheduled what I…read morebelieved would be a straightforward appointment and was never informed about the cost of the visit or any additional testing beforehand. Weeks later, I received a bill for 1,400 for a simple allergy panel. (they billed my insurance $2500) The most frustrating part is that there was absolutely no transparency. If patients are going to be charged hundreds or thousands dollars for testing, consultations, or separate services, that should be explained clearly before anything is done -- not after the fact when the bill shows up unexpectedly. When I reached out about the charges, I felt like I got very little empathy or accountability; Even at one point being told I didn't know how to read bills. Medical offices should understand that people budget for healthcare and deserve to know what they're agreeing to financially before being treated. The billing process completely ruined the experience for me. I would strongly encourage anyone go to a more forthright office. I NEVER WANTED FREE SERVICE, I WANTED HONEST SERVICE, unfortunately I didn't receive that here. I have also submitted a few complaints to the medical board. I've attached my bill to this review.

However, when I tried to schedule a simple Telehealth follow-up to review my results, I was told I'd need to pay $240 cash upfront and then wait for insurance reimbursement. When I pushed back pointing out they're in-network with my insurance plan and asking why they couldn't bill insurance directly, the story changed. First I was told "health plans no longer cover Telehealth visits starting January 1, 2026". I called my insurance company directly, and they confirmed my plan covers Telehealth with no deductible. When I shared this with the office, the explanations for why I couldn't have a simple video call to review results I already received. I ended up canceling altogether. The medical care was fine, but the billing runaround and inconsistent answers made me lose trust in the office. I'd recommend clarifying their Telehealth and billing policies upfront before committing to any treatment plan here.

But when you get turned away for missing 4:30 by two minutes (as did today, 4/26/23) and they haven't shutdown the immunization station, one would think the staff or manager would honor ones request for a 2 minute exception. However, when you arrive by the skin of teeth and you see some young girl in her early 20's, you just know they're going to turn you away because they're in a hurry to catch-up on their smartphone or go join their friends. When it's an older adult, they're always more rational. Furthermore, when the youger generation is running the office without an on-site manager, you know your stuck with the younger generation's decision concerning their own well-being; not yours. Surprised by such inflexibility, I requested to speak to the off-site Stockton manager and told her turning a patient away over 2 minutes is harsh (especially when other offices have a 10 minute grace period). I told her if they're going to cost me my time off work and gas at 5 bucks a gallon for 2 minutes of their time, then their going to lose the revenue from my weekly/monthly shots (and a repeat patient of 11 years, and onward). She responded with, "I highly doubt that." (WOW!) Nothing like pouring fuel on the fire! I then told her to screw-off. With management like that, it's no wonder the younger girls are unaccommodating toward the older folks. The patient definitely doesn't come first anymore and we're at the mercy of the upcoming generation (yikes). Sure enough, the waiting room was totally empty, well before 5pm, because nobody sticks around for the entire 20 minutes to see if they're going to have a bad reaction. So all the girls still got to leave early for the day... 2 more minutes would've just ruined their day, or cost then 2 minutes on Facebook... Facts: Arrived at 4:32 pm. Call was initiated with the Stockton Manager at 4:35 pm. The call was terminated at 4:44 pm and the girl giving injections had already raced out of the office... for the manager ended up calling the receptionist at 4:44 pm and the receptionist stated, "she's already gone home". (So much for the 20 minutes they're supposed to be on the clock after 4:30, while people potentially wait for reactions (though the patients had already cleared out by 4:44pm; nobody stays and the staff knows they can leave early if they manipulate the system, including sending me on my way. Time to go the other alergist in town or drive to Elk Grove. Maybe Dr. Bensch is unaware of how his staff and manager rule with "an iron fist" and will correct such treatment. At least he makes the patient feel important (but you only see him once a year for 20 minutes). I'll miss the old character, unless they have a turn-over with management!
