Only one I've been under the care of (in Los Angeles) is her peer in knowledge and clinical skills. Not surprisingly he knows Dr. Carteron. Dr. Carteron is truly interested in her patients as people and takes as much time with her patients as required. Consequently, one might have to wait a while in her waiting room (well-stocked with interesting magazines and medical books). Dr. Carteron has an excellent referral network of specialist physicians.. She also has the nicest, most organized administrative assistant, James, of any doctor I've seen in San Francisco.

Dr. Carteron may be a good physician but her insurance acceptance is from the Dark Ages…read more I called earlier this week as she was recommended and got an email from her assistant that I would have to agree to certain terms and payment plans and return that email agreeing to pay in cash because she only takes Medicare. Everyone else has to put up a minimum of $700 cash just to see her and then good luck getting anything back from your insurance company. Plus that's just the first appointment --- it goes on and on if you want to see her again She may be good but is obviously only interested in the money $$$ and not the patient.

While I found the treatment effective during the first year and appreciated Dr. Zhang's nice…read moredemeanor, I experienced several ongoing concerns with the overall office operations. My main issue is that this office has always felt like a money-grab. The office often recommended additional tests and appointments that did not seem necessary. Although I understand the value of Ni-Ox and lung function assessments, the repeated testing rarely resulted in meaningful adjustments to my treatment plan. Appointments frequently ended with vague feedback rather than clear next steps for improvement. During one visit, I had a reaction to the shots, which was a stressful situation. The staff appeared uncertain about how to respond, and Dr. Zhang invited a medical assistant to observe my hives without asking for my consent. This was uncomfortable and dehumanizing. Additionally, I received the bill for this appointment and they charged me for a lung function test I did not take. I contacted the billing department who said they would call me back. I never received a call back despite following up. I check today to see they have revised their billing statement to deduct that charge. Very shady business that prioritizes money over patient care. I am now seeing a new allergist who looked at my tests and said that allergists should not be administering shots to people with numbers as bad as mine were.

I had an extremely frustrating experience with South Bay Allergy & Asthma Group. I scheduled what I…read morebelieved would be a straightforward appointment and was never informed about the cost of the visit or any additional testing beforehand. Weeks later, I received a bill for 1,400 for a simple allergy panel. (they billed my insurance $2500) The most frustrating part is that there was absolutely no transparency. If patients are going to be charged hundreds or thousands dollars for testing, consultations, or separate services, that should be explained clearly before anything is done -- not after the fact when the bill shows up unexpectedly. When I reached out about the charges, I felt like I got very little empathy or accountability; Even at one point being told I didn't know how to read bills. Medical offices should understand that people budget for healthcare and deserve to know what they're agreeing to financially before being treated. The billing process completely ruined the experience for me. I would strongly encourage anyone go to a more forthright office. I NEVER WANTED FREE SERVICE, I WANTED HONEST SERVICE, unfortunately I didn't receive that here. I have also submitted a few complaints to the medical board. I've attached my bill to this review.

However, when I tried to schedule a simple Telehealth follow-up to review my results, I was told I'd need to pay $240 cash upfront and then wait for insurance reimbursement. When I pushed back pointing out they're in-network with my insurance plan and asking why they couldn't bill insurance directly, the story changed. First I was told "health plans no longer cover Telehealth visits starting January 1, 2026". I called my insurance company directly, and they confirmed my plan covers Telehealth with no deductible. When I shared this with the office, the explanations for why I couldn't have a simple video call to review results I already received. I ended up canceling altogether. The medical care was fine, but the billing runaround and inconsistent answers made me lose trust in the office. I'd recommend clarifying their Telehealth and billing policies upfront before committing to any treatment plan here.

Also, I was expecting more consultation on preventive care from either him or his nurse. It would be nice if they took the initiative first to give me advice, rather than I had to ask first. They had one nurse there before that always used the same gloves when giving injections to different patients. I saw her wear that same gloves when touching the patient's arm before me, and then she touches me on the dried blood area on my arm. So disgusting.

When we had questions about what the causes of his allergies may be, she simply responded with comments like, "Look at the sheet I gave you at the last visit." The kicker was when she suggested we limit his milk intake, which she mentioned we had talked about during his first visit. I said that the nurse said they tested for it during this visit and it was negative. I asked if it would help anything. She chuckled and said, "No, but do it if it makes you feel better." I'm appalled at this flippancy and lack of professionalism, and knowledge on Dr. Strub's part. It's as if she wasn't even trying to be helpful. We certainly won't be going back.
