Dr. Carteron is truly interested in her patients as people and takes as much time with her patients as required. Consequently, one might have to wait a while in her waiting room (well-stocked with interesting magazines and medical books). Dr. Carteron has an excellent referral network of specialist physicians.. She also has the nicest, most organized administrative assistant, James, of any doctor I've seen in San Francisco.

Everyone else has to put up a minimum of $700 cash just to see her and then good luck getting anything back from your insurance company. Plus that's just the first appointment --- it goes on and on if you want to see her again She may be good but is obviously only interested in the money $$$ and not the patient.

My main issue is that this office has always felt like a money-grab. The office often recommended additional tests and appointments that did not seem necessary. Although I understand the value of Ni-Ox and lung function assessments, the repeated testing rarely resulted in meaningful adjustments to my treatment plan. Appointments frequently ended with vague feedback rather than clear next steps for improvement. During one visit, I had a reaction to the shots, which was a stressful situation. The staff appeared uncertain about how to respond, and Dr. Zhang invited a medical assistant to observe my hives without asking for my consent. This was uncomfortable and dehumanizing. Additionally, I received the bill for this appointment and they charged me for a lung function test I did not take. I contacted the billing department who said they would call me back. I never received a call back despite following up. I check today to see they have revised their billing statement to deduct that charge. Very shady business that prioritizes money over patient care. I am now seeing a new allergist who looked at my tests and said that allergists should not be administering shots to people with numbers as bad as mine were.

He took the time to hear my concerns and make suggestions based on my history and personality instead of just making a generic recommendation. I feel completely comfortable in his care. I knocked off a star mainly because of billing issues. After my most recent appointment, I made a point of asking if I owed anything and was told no. I got hit with an invoice a month later for almost $1,000. Ideally, patients should be told what the service costs BEFORE it occurs, but at the very least, I would expect more timely billing. The customer service can also be hit or miss. Sometimes when I call, the phone rings for ages before someone picks up. I've received prompt replies through the patient portal most of the time but not always. A few times, they've told me they would call me back but never did. I've called to reschedule an appointment, then realized a few days later that nothing changed, so I've had to call back. I get that they're very busy, being an office with several doctors in it and lots of patients, but the customer service could definitely be improved. Still, I've had an overall good experience here and will continue to go back to this office.

Weeks later, I received a bill for 1,400 for a simple allergy panel. (they billed my insurance $2500) The most frustrating part is that there was absolutely no transparency. If patients are going to be charged hundreds or thousands dollars for testing, consultations, or separate services, that should be explained clearly before anything is done -- not after the fact when the bill shows up unexpectedly. When I reached out about the charges, I felt like I got very little empathy or accountability; Even at one point being told I didn't know how to read bills. Medical offices should understand that people budget for healthcare and deserve to know what they're agreeing to financially before being treated. The billing process completely ruined the experience for me. I would strongly encourage anyone go to a more forthright office. I NEVER WANTED FREE SERVICE, I WANTED HONEST SERVICE, unfortunately I didn't receive that here. I have also submitted a few complaints to the medical board. I've attached my bill to this review.

Also, I was expecting more consultation on preventive care from either him or his nurse. It would be nice if they took the initiative first to give me advice, rather than I had to ask first. They had one nurse there before that always used the same gloves when giving injections to different patients. I saw her wear that same gloves when touching the patient's arm before me, and then she touches me on the dried blood area on my arm. So disgusting.

Make sure if you go there to let them know that the patient has someone that cares and loves them. I was visiting he cannot speak well after he was brought there and a chaplain was there I asked why they had no answer.The nurses did not seem to really no his condition and the Dr on call was unsympathetic .Im thinking of transferring him.
