I've driven by this plaza multiple times and kept saying I wanted to try this place! I finally did on 4th of July. They had a special that day giving free upgrades, so great day to have gone! I didn't ask for half sugar at my initial order request and asked them moments later if it was too late to do so - They said okay, but I'm not entirely sure if it was half sugar. I prefer my tea flavor to be strong and I think the sugar overpowered it or they didn't brew enough tea leaves into it. It's good if I wanted something sweet to fulfill my sugar craving. I kept reading they were known for their golden boba, and honestly didn't find it to be anything special. The boba was too firm - not soft enough. You can tell when boba is fresh when it's soft and chewy and warm, theirs was not. Didn't see what was so special about their boba. My boyfriend got the kumquat lemon iced tea and it had real kumquat in the drink with a si mui, but we found the drink to be tart with a more lemon flavor than kumquat. We could barely taste the kumquat in the drink and I'm not sure if they made his drink half sugar too cause he found it to be too sour than sweet lol. I was on a hunt for some good squishy boba balls for a drink... I had their basic milk tea with boba. The type of boba that served was the "Golden Boba." The golden boba is sweeter than the standard boba. Boba. Why I like their boba? Its very squishy, soft, and sweet. Squish factor is important. It gives that extra texture and chew that is so crucial to enjoy those cute golden balls. At some places, you have to pay extra for these golden balls. Who knew there were different types of balls to enjoy? They let you choose how much ice and sugar you want in your drink too! The service was friendly. I wish I didnt rush to order so quickly. It looked good in the picture and it tasted even better when I tried it. What I especially like is that the boba remained soft throughout the whole drink. Boba normally gets hard as it sits in ice for too long. This boba remained soft till the very last drop! I'd give it two thumbs up! I love the Jasmine Green Tea and order it every time because I can taste the bitterness of the tea; just the way I like my tea. That's why I keep coming back. I also love the fact that I can adjust the level of sweetness and the level of ice. My daughter ordered a Taro Milk Tea. I got the first taste and love that I can pick out the creamy Taro taste all while still being able to taste that hint of bitterness from the tea. So late night drive in Costa Mesa I checked my handy dandy yelp app and poof like magic this haven was found. I was recommend by the Boba-rista to indulge in their "Monster" drink. This was the first time I partook in boba with cheese foam. My life had no meaning till this savory concoction meet my lips. *BRING CASH if less than $5* The first thing I notice about this Ding Tea is that it's rather dark. They seem to rely on natural lighting from the windows, which is fine during the day. But, at night time it's too dim. This isn't a bar, it's a boba shop. Lighting aside, this is perfect place to get work done. They have 4 large tables that can fit groups of 4-5 people. Lots of outlet and free WiFi. They also have lots of employees, so the drinks come out lightning fast. Bummer that it's $5 minimum for card. It has to be an insanely special tea for me to spend over $5 for one drink. I'm surprised that even with a Clover machine, they still enforce a $5 minimum. The positive side is that they have 10% discount yelp check-in. The front cashier was also friendly. Assam black tea with Golden Boba (2/5): I ordered this less sugar, which apparently means no sugar. It's fine because the golden boba is lightly sweetened. But by itself, I thought it was too bland. The tea is weak strength (A DING TEA FIRST FOR ME). I was expecting a tea base that is lot more aromatic. The acidity and bitterness is there, but not a lot of depth or brown sugar notes. Golden boba (5/5): The boba was on par with other Ding Tea locations. QQ, chewy, and sweetened. It's a shame that this boba had to support such a lackluster drink. Overall: One of the best study spots I've found from a Ding Tea location. But $5 minimum for card and weak tea put a downer on my experience. Ding Tea is known for their distinct golden boba, and it's a real treat every time I get one. The boba is always chewy and sweet, which makes every sip a delight! My favorites are the Signature Milk Tea and the Lychee Green Tea. If it's your first time here, I would recommend trying the Signature Milk Tea first, because it's their special, unique milk tea flavor. You can taste the mild hints of black tea within the milky flavor, and it's not too overly sweet like some boba joints in the area. It's the flavor that got me hooked on Ding Tea! If you're a fan of lychee, I highly recommend their Lychee fruit tea (you can get it with a base of green or black tea). It's not too overly sweet, and the lychee flavor is pretty distinct in the tea. It's really refreshing to drink on a hot day. The staff are always nice, and I love how they let you customize your ice and sweetness levels. They also offer stamp cards - if you buy ten drinks, you get one drink free! The drinks here are heavier on the tea flavor and less on the milk flavor, which I prefer when it comes to milk teas. However, I had a bit of the problem with the staff here. Came on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't very busy - maybe 2-3 orders ahead of me. 3 employees working. They kept chatting and horsing around, drinks shouldn't have taken that long to make. At times I heard them loudly make unprofessional side remarks about work stuff and people that had just left the store - that's a big no no. Plus they kept making mistakes and had to keep correcting them. I feel like they knew what they were doing, but were just distracted and not focused. We ordered 2 fairly simple drinks. People before and after us ordered 2-3 drinks on average. They gave someone else our drinks, and gave us what was their order. And when they finally finished making our drinks again, we didn't notice until we were long gone from there that they had nevertheless still made the incorrect ones. What a complete drag, ugh.
