    Beef chow fun

I can't tell you how happy I am to have found some passable dim sum in the 805! It's been a long time coming and I hope with this spot growing in popularity it will only lead the way to more dim sum restaurants locally because lord knows we've been needing them! Ding is a new Chinese restaurant off Moorpark in Thousand Oaks. This restaurant has changed hands multiple times in the last year. First it was thousand wok, then dong Chinese food and now, not joking, it's called Ding Chinese. At least this location has a consistent theme. I was under the weather and it sounded good to have some dim sum, noodles, and soup. I remembered this spot so I ordered it for delivery. I can't leave a review yet for the inside and service but I still got a pretty good vibe from getting their food delivered. Pricing was about average and I see they have lunch specials so this could be where you get your best value. My order was as follows: Egg Drop Soup: 4.5/5 Shrimp Har Gow: 4.5/5 Pork Shu Mai: 4/5 Beef Chow Fun: 4.5/5 Shrimp Rice Noodles: 2.5/5 Overall the dim sum is really good as was the noodles and soup. I was super happy with these bites and would get almost everything again. The dim sum surprisingly traveled well and was still moist & hot when it got to me. They packaged the food nicely and their dim sum sauce on the side was tasty. Unfortunately they don't package chili oil with the meal on the side but thankfully I had some at home which elevated the bites. For local dim sum this definitely satiated my cravings and was tasty. I honestly can't wait to come back. I'm sure dining in will be even better and I'm hoping to take some friends next time because this is a great addition to the area.

Early in the year, I had seen on Instagram that Ding Chinese Cuisine was going to open in the near future and would occupy the former Thousand Wok Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar space. Prior to it closing, we had been to Thousand Wok a few times and always enjoyed the Asian cuisine they offered. RIP Thousand Wok... hopefully Ding does your space justice. ------------------------ Earlier this month, my sister-in-laws daughter wanted Chinese for her birthday and so she invited my wife, our kids and I to join her and her family for dinner. For this... I was excited for two reasons!! 1) Who doesn't like Chinese? 2) Another place to leave a Yelp review!! So all twelve of us made our way inside and they had already put a few tables together to accommodate our large group. (I believe my sister-in-law called ahead to make sure they could fit us). First things first, gotta scope out the menu to see if they have anything fun or interesting. As far as fun is concerned -------------------------- -Various dumplings (steamed or fried) -Bao Buns & other traditional Dim Sum goodies -Shengjing Roast Duck -Pan Grilled Radish Cake And then there was Interesting ------------------------------ -Pickle Pepper Pig Kidney (say that 8 times fast!) -Stir fried Chicken Gizzards -Hot & Spicy Pig Intestine -Pickle Pepper Bullfrog Anyone Hungry yet?? I see you over there making that face! lol But don't you worry; they have all of your familiar favorites... -Kung Pao Chicken/Shrimp -Mu Shu Pork/Chicken/Duck -Sweet & Sour Chicken -Orange Peel Chicken -Mongolian Beef Etc. This is just a few to mention, but they have others that I know you will recognize & love. Staff was super friendly, they did a great job interacting with all of the kids at our table which outnumbered the adults. They even surprised us and brought the kids a complimentary mochi dessert. Everything we had was delicious! So delicious in fact, that as each dish made it to our table, I didn't even have time to snap a pic before one of the kids rushed to the dish to make sure they got their fair share. There is a decent amount of seating and we were not the only big group that night! There was a large group next to us celebrating as well (I feel like they were possibly connected to the restaurant, maybe the owners celebrating the opening of Ding??) Anyways... I have a feeling Ding will do well and I will definitely be back soon to try some pig intestines and pickle pepper pig kidney.... ;) Probably not, but hey like the saying goes... Don't knock it, till you try it. If you're a T.O./Conejo Valley Local, come check out the newest Szechuan/Dim Sum Chinese spot in town. Ding Chinese Cuisine... Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Finally got to try this new Chinese restaurant in town. Ordered their lunch specials (kung pao beef and garlic chicken) that came with either fried rice/steamed rice, miso/hot and sour soup and a spring roll and some siomay appetizer. Nothing really special about the food. The service was pretty slow (had to wait for 30 minutes for the food to come) and the food was a bit oily to my liking. Not planning to return.

This is what they assured me was Jalapeño chicken.
    Larry C.

So salty! Their Tranditional Sichuan Jalapeño chicken didn't have any Jalapeños in it. It was crazy salty and they argued with me. A never seen manager in the back assures me that it was in fact Jalapeño Chicken. Even after showing them pictures of jalapeños they argued with me. It was 100% bell peppers and that would have been fine if it wasn't over the top salty and called bell pepper chicken. This is the third and final time for us. We are not returning. Every meal was crazy salty and had issues. This time there was one other person and the last time I was the only person there. Sad to see.

Since its opening, Yunnan Restaurant has become a staple in our rotation for good reason. The pro-tip that I almost want to gatekeep is to go for lunch because that's the only way to guarantee that all of the best cold dishes are still in stock. My family's go-to is the vinegar potato strings, bamboo shoots, and sliced mushrooms, but we've recently also gotten into getting a side order of the peanuts with anchovies. The peanuts have a great sweet and salty roasted flavor and would pair perfectly with some rice. I could honestly be happy just ordered a big plate of the vegetarian cold dishes with rice, but it would be criminal to not order some of the noodles. The Sichuan style cold noodle is my absolute favorite item on the menu. It is vinegary, spicy, a little bit sweet, and super refreshing! The noodle texture is nice and bouncy, and the sliced carrots and scallions and blanched bean curds add a great crunchy texture. Despite being meatless, this noodle dish is absolutely satisfying and delicious! Most of the praises I sing are about this cold noodle dish, but their other items are also quite yummy. I enjoy the braised garlic seafood tofu dish, which pairs well with rice, and there are whole cloves of garlic that were braised with the seafood to be subtlety sweet and not at all pungent. Yunnan Restaurant really lives up to the hype!

I came for lunch with my family and it wasn't too crowded Sunday at 12:30 pm when we came, though slowly a couple more groups trickled in while we were there. They offer lunch/dinner specials that are great if you don't want to share. For $12-13 at lunch, you can get your choice of entree + rice + egg roll + soup/salad. Portions are very generous too! One person got the Szechuwan chicken lunch special for $12 and wasn't able to finish the chicken. The rest of us shared a couple dishes off the regular menu: #102 Combination seafood ($23) #620 Fish with black bean sauce ($18) #804 Szechuwan shredded pork ($15) 3 bowls of rice ($1.75 each) Of the three dishes, we liked the seafood and fish the best. They were more savory than sweet, though they were still quite sweet. I didn't like the shredded pork at all as it was much sweeter than the other two. Portions for everything were generous and we took the remaining 1/3 of the food home for lunch the next day.

I like the house special braised pork belly which is a caramelized and salty meat in a pot. Delicious with copious amounts of white rice. Some of my favorite items to get at this place are: -Stir fried intestines - these are cooked with spices and numbing pepper. The intestines taste like they were deep fried and have a crunch to them. -Mushroom medley - 3 different types of mushrooms in a brown sauce and some type of white meat. -Beef rolls - sliced beef inside a flaky savory pancake with hoisin sauce and cilantro This is a great spot for Hunan-style dishes that have the complex smoky, spicy, and numbing spice flavors.
