We also tried the cashew chicken and brought the good memories of the old school flavors we grew up on. Best Chinese restaurant in Newbury Park, extensive menu and good , fresh ingredients.

We moved to Central Coast Ca almost 2 years ago. We love the area! There is one thing missing though. No good Chinese restaurants! We have searched high and low, from Santa Maria to San Luis Obispo with no luck. As a matter of fact, you can read one of my reviews and see how badly a restaurant flunked out, In my humble opinion. Enough of that. When we lived in Newbury Park we had a favorite, go to restaurant that we always went to when someone in our family was sick. "Sick" could mean a cold or flu , but it could also mean I had a bad headache and called in sick for cooking dinner. No matter what, my son was always first in line requesting Red Wok? With a hopeful expression. Well, with our move and my son moving out those days were behind us... UNTIL! Drum roll please! I had an epiphany! When I need to come to Thousand Oaks, why not order what we love, put it in an insulated bag that we already have, and bring it home! Instant excellent food! So we tried it and it worked! Now having to drive to Thousand Oaks won't bee so bad. As for the food you can get here, everything is made fresh. I loved the wor wonton soup! House special noodles, kung pow chicken, broccoli and beef, shrimp with lobster sauce, the list goes on and on. You can eat there, it's a simple place, not fancy, or take it to go. Don't be put off by the older lady, she seems gruff, but the chef is great. read more

Our favorite pho place was closed today so we wanted to try something new and loved it here. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. I have seen this place for decades and some reason went next door to the Alamo but not there. I gave it a shot when I wanted shrimp fried rice and my usual go to place was closed. A A friend and I went to try it out, both of us were virgins. We ordered the eggplant with tofu, shrimp fried rice, pork egg foo young, chicken with vegetables, beef with snow peas, and chicken dumplings. The server explained that the dumplings are made in house, along with their egg rolls. Big difference from those restaurants that uses factory created. Wow they were huge, the filling was delicious and the texture of the dumping was fresh. I love dim sum, and this place questioned the quality of those places I was going too. Will be asking if things are made in house next time I go elsewhere. Ordering to delivery of the food took some time, but they cooked to order, which I appreciate. The above food order, I would get again and try out more of their options. I heard they have been open for 20+ years, congratulations to them and continued success. read more

Great place for Chinese. I've gone a few times over the years . Service is fast and they have great options. I highly recommend getting their lunch specials or dinner combos. It's a generous amount of food for the price and easily shareable to get a taste of different dishes on their menu. Also, in general, their prices continue to be affordable compared to other restaurants. The interior has a charm to it that reminds me of all the family owned Chinese restaurants I went to growing up. read more

Unfortunately we weren't overly impressed with the food we tried here recently. We ordered take out and tried the orange chicken, house chow mein, house fried rice and beef with broccoli and everything was just kinda bland and lacking flavor. Can't speak to service in restaurant as we didn't eat in but based on the food we tried not sure we would try again. read more

They have a fish filet with black bean sauce that is out of this world! This has been my favorite Chinese take out/dine local restaurant for many, MANY, moons. The family who owns this little gem is lovely, and their food is consistently delicious. I love their steamed dumplings, BBQ PORK soft noodles, the BBQ pork steamed buns are almost like dessert, they are so good. And the pineapple fried rice is bomb, too! We Still like the large portions of food in the lunch specials menu. Just one comment: there is a loud mechanical sound in the restaurant, seems to be coming from ceiling or roof area. Linda the owner is always so friendly and great. The cooks are legit and truly know how to use a wok. The menu is varied with some traditional items as well as some authentically prepared items. We had a wonderful dinner at Red Wok. They have the best wonton soup I have ever tasted. It was flavorful and was filled with extra vegetables, chunks of meat , an of course, great won tons. My friend recommended the sautéed green beans. They were amazing and covered with little slivers of garlic and onion for extra flavor. Finally, we enjoyed the three ingredient tastes specialty dish. Great little restaurant tucked away in Newbury Park. I've driven by it enough times that I knew I wanted to get some take out to see how the food was. Called in an order today for lunch and they were quick! The guy who took my phone order was very nice and let me know that the food would be ready in about 15 minutes. I zipped over there and only had to wait a couple of minutes before it was ready. The lady who rung up my order was also lovely. Great customer service here. The restaurant is small but I liked that they had a couple of outdoor seats and also there is plenty of parking. Clean inside and met a friendly customer too. The vibes are good here, as we say! Pricing was average for a la carte items. But great portions and appreciate that everything was cooked fresh to order. Even by the time I got the food home it was nice and hot. A great spot for to go orders. Here's what I got: -Shrimp with Lobster Sauce -Black Pepper Chicken -Beef Chow Fun with Black Bean Sauce -White Rice The highlights were the black pepper chicken and the black bean chow fun. I got there just before the lunch menu ended so my food may have been sitting around forever and it tasted like it. I got the fish with black bean sauce and I couldn't really tell what meat I was eating with huge chunks of green pepper and onions. It felt like old leftovers. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and even as an adult, it feels like treat! The two ladies who are always there are very welcoming and always have a smile on their face. Don't let the inside deter you from trying it out. It's a medium sized location with a very calm demeanor. We love the Chicken Chowmein and the Kung-Pao chicken. This little strip mall Chinese place surprised us! The portions are big enough for two - the moo sho was five full pancakes! The pan fried dumplings were twice the size of normal dumplings. The sizzling rice soup is sharable. My favorite was the sesame beef - crisp beef in a sauce with a hint of ginger. Yum! Simple, clean tables. Service was terrific, too. We will be back. read more

We order from RedWok almost every week when my in laws come to town. They LOVE the food, as do we.

We went in to place a large order for a pick up. We placed the food in the restaurant and asked questions on the menu. The workers/manager were extremely kind and explained the amount of the items might be a bit too much for our group. They were telling us to cut down the order rather than buy more and they were right about how much food there would be to take home. The food was amazing. From the chicken fried rice to the chow mein to orange chicken to beef and broccoli to dumplings to sweet and pungent shrimp to kung pao chicken etc. & the egg rolls were amazing!! We have been coming to Red Wok for about 15 years. The food is ALWAYS consistently freshly made to order, hot and DELICIOUS! The containers are generously filled, and we enjoy the leftovers the next day. We love the war wonton soup, shrimp fried rice, house chow mien, and really anything else we've tried.
