Technically Dimes Square is named for the original Dimes next door, known for drawing a crowd of models, men with buns, and self-important young people who may have benefited from a trust fund or two. Dimes Deli is the casual sister eatery to Dimes, and gives off a diner vibe, but with things like poke and gazpacho on the menu. There is no discernible cuisine or theme, except that the menu leans healthy. I ordered both poke and gazpacho which were nice for the humid night I was there but didn't do much for my tastebuds. As much as I poke fun at those who like places like this I'm actually in this target demo. I'd very much enjoy a healthy bowl with a dragonfruit lavendar coconut water smoothie on the side, but only if executed well, and this meal was wholly unmemorable. read more

Just reopened in the original location of Dimes, now as Dimes Deli, they serve a small menu of sandwiches and pre made salads and bowls. They also have some drinks and pastries, including the excellent cookies from Ovenly. I tried the Western Fork ($10) (pulled chicken, taleggio, pickled kale and sundried tomatoes on sourdough Pullman), which was pretty good, but a little bit of a mushy mess after a few bites. On the other hand, the Summer Roll was great ($9). It's basically just a BLT, with a comically large strip of bacon hanging off, but what made it deliciously addictive was the Ssam Sauce slathered on the bun, as well as the slightly crispy, fluffy potato bun it was on. This sandwich is definitely worth trying. This is a great option for some lighter sandwiches and healthier fare. Plus, it's just 2 blocks away from Ice & Vice for a chance to ruin your healthy eating with some really delicious dessert. read more

In the neighborhood and was on a quest to try this "Dimes Acai Bowl" that I keep reading about. Walking up Canal, I saw the Dimes logo on a door to a minimalist shop and was slightly confused but went in. I didn't know it was a little grocery, and the restaurant was next door (tinier than I expected). Now I see- they moved the restaurant to Canal Street and these places are new. BTW- the Dimes Rose Water facial spray looks really lovely.. The Deli offered 2 types of acai bowls, I got the Energy one (banana, dates, blackberries, maca, coconut, rice krispies), recommended by the super friendly employee. The pricing is really high for the quantity. The bowl was about 6" wide and 3" deep. The banana & blackberries on top were very fresh but as for the acai part, it neither tasted strongly of any, or a blend, of the "energy" ingredients listed. The color looked much paler than the restaurants' acai bowls. I guess I shouldn't compare this to Hawaii's bowls either. I got bits of frozen acai? ice pieces with my spoonfuls few times. I wouldn't mind trying their Chex breakfast bars, muffins, or coffee sometime. I doubt I'd pay such steep prices for their sandwiches (Shake Shack size) or pre-packaged Brown Rice Bowls (maybe 1/2 a cup of rice--they DO have poke- but this for $12?) and Salads. Dimes, can this Deli be a bit cheaper than your restaurant pricing? (ie. Cafe Habana to-go) The space is teeny! (6 stools, 2 small booth tables) But it is gorgeously designed. There's nice touches of the white painted wooden ceiling, intricate shelving (pretty ceramics by an artist), the molded kind of adobe sidewall with a triangle and rectangle cut-in display shelf & inset long mirror. Japanese fabrics hanging to conceal a panel and the kitchen. I appreciate the under counter hooks as well! I feel everything has been thought out. Nice labels for returning "dirty utensils" & "dirty cups." However..there seemed to be a pretentious air to the place. I wish I could have taken more pics of the space & food, but a girl dining was side-eyeing, and I also felt that I was in the employee's way chatting with a cool looking friend, though they didn't have much room to move around anyway. I've been coming here since it was previously its flagship restaurant Dimes. I'm glad Sabrina De Sousa has kept this tiny spot going as Dimes Deli. I love coming in here after my morning runs to grab an egg sandwich or burrito. Dinner favorites are the pickled salmon bowl, the grilled salmon and the soba noodles. This spot is an overall disappointment. First, don't come here to work; they don't have Wi-Fi, and instead, encouraged me to bum off a nearby shop's network - sketchy, spotty, and not cool. Second, the granola in my acai bowl was so stale, I almost chipped a tooth. My breakfast burrito's eggs were runny and flavorless. And for mediocre (at best) food, it's wicked over-priced. Ive been going to the various Dimes restaurants for as long as they've been open- the concept, well, it's not really a concept, but the idea is great...but its often hit or miss. Mostly just due to lazy, slow, or pretentious service. I always give them another chance, but yesterday I received food that was almost inedible (two breakfast burritos)- not even sure what was off in them, the eggs or the avacados. When I called, the guy who answered was just rude and completely uninterested that they could be serving food that would potentially make someone ill- especially in this time and definitely not one second did he think about a refund...$40 for two burritos, a tiny açaí bow and two coffees.... you'd think they would care a bit more. Take out situation is terrible. The bags they use literally disintegrate within 2 or 3 minutes of walking home. Same goes for the grocery store next door. To make matters worse the clueless clerk stuffed about 20 pounds of groceries into one of these flimsy "bags". Very very cheap bags and every time without fail the bottom breaks and the food is on the floor. There are plenty of places which use eco-friendly bags that are still sturdy and function as a BAG. Step it up already guys!!! Also, staff goofs around way too much. Found myself a few times waiting in line to pay in the packed tiny space while the staff chats with each other or chatting up a customer. Friendliness is nice but not at the expense of being rude to the people who are waiting. This is New York guys step it up!!! I love this place. They are authentic, and have creative dishes. It's LES's finest deli. They're chili is amazing and unique, using yogurt lime and cardamom.
