3 pork gyoza and 3 shrimp shumai (9.50)
Lindsay D.

An extreme disappointment to say the least, and not anywhere near the quality of the other food vendors in the food hall. I ordered one serving of the shrimp shumai and one order of the pork gyoza, and waited about 10 minutes which is what roughly every other vendor was saying if it was made to order. Waiting for the food, I looked at the rest of the menu and the stall decorations. The menu is split amongst steamed, fried, and other things. The decorations feature the steamed baskets of various sizes used for cooking the dumplings. However, when the food came out the size of the order did not match the price. For six pieces of dumplings - the gyoza was steamed and the shumai was fried (never had it fried before, but okay) - it was most definitely not worth 9.50. Everything came out hot which was nice, but the shumai had no flavor and if there was it masked by it being fried. The gyoza were better than the shrimp shumai, but it did not compete with the average gyoza I've had at other places. Bottom line, I'd prefer every other stall in the hall to Dim Sum Thing, and if you really want dim sum in Amsterdam there are other restaurants.

Disappointing to say the least. I saw the food coming in boxes after I ordered and I think that they just steam pre-made food so that's a problem to begin with. The wait is 20 minutes but I was hoping it would be worth it. We had the chicken meatballs, steamed pork buns and Shanghai dumplings. It's not terrible, but it ended up costing us 15 euros for a pretty small amount of mediocre food. Don't waste your time here and go to Oriental City in Centrum if you want good dim sum!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! This place looks so alluring with the steamer baskets hanging on the wall... turn around and go to any other food vendor but DON'T go here! It doesn't belong with the rest of the amazing stands in De Foodhallen. The food was disappointing to say the least, it tasted like it was frozen bulk purchased dim sum items. We had the chicken meatballs, steamed pork buns and Shanghai dumplings all pretty bland and not worth the price point.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have tried this place in De Foodhallen. We ordered the Steamy Sui Mai and were extremely underwhelmed. They were very bland. If it wasn't for the sauce, they would have had very little flavor. I felt that they are were also a little overpriced for what we got.

It's a little sad to read all the bad reviews but I'm glad I didn't see them until after because I liked the food. I've always loved the idea of late night dim sum and this place fits the bill. We ordered several items but my favorite was the Crispy Prawn Balls.

12 piece dim sum for two

I had expectations that the dim sum would feel close to home; however, I am left unsatisfied for dinner. First, I disagree with the price they charge for this quality of food. The dim sum that was served varied in some flavors that would not be in traditional dim sum. I am confused why it felt like my crystal shrimp dim sum included steamed carrots. The shui mai had the correct ingredients, but lacked texture and body. The gyoza was definitely a miss. Many of the dumplings were not consistent to each other. Definitely, there are better places in Foodhallen that you'll enjoy.

We arrived around 4:30, and it was not a problem getting a table although the place was busy. They sat us in the window looking out on the street. The service was prompt, and the menu had a lot of options. We placed an order for seven different small dishes. In short order, the dishes arrived one by one. We were tired from the flight over, but the food picked us up. We got the chicken dumplings, the pork dumplings, the minced beef meatballs, an onion pancake, spring rolls, and a few more items. Everything seemed freshly cooked. The food was good but did not wow us. They give you soy sauce for the dim sum, but I would have liked additional sauces. I did ask for some hot sauce, and they brought me a chili oil sauce which was very good. The staff were very friendly and happy to help with any request. The price was reasonable (two of us for under $50 Euros). The decor is neat and clean. I would definitely recommend.

Adorning one of the walls are solar powered neko cats that wave to you from the window. On the walls are interesting art pieces, one in particular with instructions on how best to enjoy ramen. Serving us most the night was the main chef himself who observed us smile with ease at every first bite we took of each dish served. The food was quite good. Small portioned with intentions to share with others; three to four dishes are plenty for a party of two. We were starving so we ordered quite a bit. Sashimi was okay, nothing worth raving about. However, they did have two types of soy sauce for sashimi. They had the traditional Kikkoman soy sauce which is often used for sushi and sashimi and then they had the Shibanuma soy, which was ever so slightly thicker and sweeter IMO. The Shibanuma is meant intentionally to be tasted with sushi and sashimi, not to be cooked with as the server mentioned. It was tasty, most defintely. Honorable mentions were the mongolian beef stew, which came piping hot and delicious. Picture does not do the dish justice. Meat was fall apart tender, full of spice and flavor. Probably best paired with a neutral side, like white rice but we got stir fried udon noodles instead. Udon noodles were delicious as well. Simple yet well made. Noodles had good chew to them and came out piping hot. Overall, nice restaurant to try out if you're in East Amsterdam by oosterpark and craving good variety asian food.

One standout dish that truly impressed me was the Kimchi Fried Rice with Shrimp & Sweet Corn. The balance of flavors was exceptional--the tangy, spicy kick of the kimchi paired beautifully with the sweetness of the corn, while the shrimp added a perfectly tender, savory touch. Every bite was vibrant and satisfying, showcasing a creative twist on a classic comfort dish. I cannot wait for an opportunity to revisit and try their duck. It smelled and looked decadent. We went too heavy on the Dim Sim, ordering six types of noodles, dumplings, and baopaos - but in reality one or two were enough for our small group. Take a look around - the main courses are running the show. As servers carrying whole suckling pigs, crackling peking ducks, and gorgeous overflowing plates of greens pass by your table, you'll regret your choice to stick with snacks. The salted cod + chicken fried rice should not be missed. Pictures on the menu are a huge advantage and let you spy on other tables to try and order better. It's not cheap - we somehow managed a €70 bill between the two of us, granted we had €17 of beer, but only one main course. They will do takeout containers, so be ready for that.

Sorry, het is niet mogelijk. But that's okay. The food comes quickly and is usually far better than the average Chinese food you're likely to find in Holland. Plus, the dim sum selection is great. I usually end up getting a noodle soup with either duck or pork, but that's only because it's late at night after concerts, and that's my favorite post-concert guilty pleasure. Everything else looks delicious, but for those who don't speak Dutch or Mandarin, be wary of asking for a description or translation in English...they might not bring you what you think you ordered. Thankfully there's a picture menu. The best part, as is usually the case in a place like this is the staff. The head waiter (maybe) is old, surly, and doesn't seem to like anyone. Or at least not me. There may have been an episode where some of my colleagues and I left origami dinosaurs and cranes along with the money, and ever since then he hasn't seemed to like any of us, even though we come in a couple times a month.
