+.5 for service…read more Dancing Noodle is located in one of the strip malls off Pembina Highway, between McGillivray and Clarence. It's a rather no-frills kind of noodle restaurant; don't expect much in terms of decorations. You order, eat, and go. Simple as that. The menu is also typical Northern Chinese style, so if you're expecting Chinese dim sum...this isn't your place. I ordered the thick round noodle...at least, that was my original order. When I received my order, I noticed the noodles were more flat than round. I didn't think much of it as it still looked quite appetizing. It wasn't until about halfway through my dish when the server came and said she gave me the wrong order...it was a medium flat noodle order for the person beside me. Weird how the person beside me didn't say anything about him having my order... Either way, the noodles were decent, although they were a bit overcooked (broke apart quite easily). The broth and meat were also quite good, no complaints from me overall. I got a free tea egg from the server due to the mistaken order, which was quite nice. The egg was actually the best part of my meal; will definitely order that next time. However, not sure if I'll return as I had to pay over $10 for what I got.

Tip: Happy hour specials are between 3 pm and 6 pm on weekdays…read more My recent trip back to Winnipeg focused on a few eateries that I used to frequent when I lived in the city. After I took in a movie at Scotiabank Theatre across from CF Polo Park, I decided to dine at this Red Lobster. It was a short drive over. This restaurant has been here for eons. Months after moving to Winnipeg, I dined here with a friend. Things haven't changed much. I got here just past 5:30 pm. Red Lobster shares its parking lot with Olive Garden. I managed to nab the last parking spot by St. James Street. There is more parking across the street near the pharmacy if need be. I've never needed to park there. The beautiful thing about being a lone diner is being able to get seating faster during the dinner rush. I got a two-seat table. Yay! I arrived during the last fifteen minutes of happy hour on a Wednesday. It's between 3 pm and 6 pm on weekdays. I looked at the happy hour menu. It was up my alley. I got these items: - Tropical white sangria - Seafood-stuffed mushrooms Kody was my server. He was polite, attentive, and nice. My only alcoholic drink on this trip was the tropical white sangria. I don't know whether staying in Steinbach rubbed off on me or if I was thoroughly hydrated with non-alcoholic fluids. I felt like sangria, so I got a glass. I loved it. It had Barefoot moscato with pineapple and mango juices. It also had a splash of Sprite, which added bubbles to this drink. It was all good. It was fruity, fizzy, and yummy. The seafood-stuffed mushrooms came out next. I love this appetizer. It's one of my favourites. The seafood stuffing is divine. I love mushrooms. Having the stuffing housed in a set of mushroom caps, topped off with melted monterey jack cheese made this starter so perfect. Classic. Delicious. Happy! It was tough figuring out what I wanted as a main. There were seafood boils that were fairly new. I saw a couple of boils come out in bags at the table across from me. The corn on the cob looked amazing with an assortment of seafood. There was so much food that I couldn't do with after downing an appetizer. Instead, I went with the seaside shrimp combo. I hadn't had shrimp for a while. It had Walt's favourite shrimp, garlic shrimp, and shrimp linguini alfredo. I got to choose a side that came with this combo. I got green beans. I love this shrimp combo. I don't know who Walt is, but I do like his favourite shrimp that is lightly battered and deep-fried. The exterior was consistently crispy and the shrimp were plump. My favourite is the garlic shrimp. I love garlic. I love butter. I love shrimp. I don't want you sitting next to me afterwards. It's pure deliciousness. The shrimp linguini alfredo was so creamy. I don't normally order it, but it was worth indulging. The linguini was al dente. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. Everything was coated in the best alfredo sauce. So good! Green beans are one of my favourite sides. I loved them here. They were the perfect side. Kody came by to get me Diet Coke refills. I lost track of how many I had. Each glass had ice in it. It was perfect with everything that I ate. He asked whether I wanted dessert. It wouldn't fit, which made him laugh. We got to talking about what I had planned on doing afterwards. I had already been at CF Polo Park, exercising my credit card. I thought that I may grab a few snacks at the local grocery store was in order before heading back to Steinbach. I paid my bill at the table. I tipped and tapped my credit card. Done! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean and nicely maintained. It was great coming back to this Red Lobster. It's the only one in Winnipeg and it's still wonderful after all these years. (283)

I probably was a Winnipegger when I last sat down to have a bite to eat. There used to be a pizza-spaghetti place. It no longer exists. Well, here's to making new food court memories! I looked around and saw this Edo Japan food stall. I love Edo. Perfect! I got a nice, attentive woman behind the counter. She was great to let me review the menu and figure out what I wanted. I got the following: - Chicken teriyaki on rice - Gyoza - California roll - Diet Coke in a bottle I like making my meal a bento box. It allows me to select two appetizers. I went for the gyoza and California roll. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was set. I watched my teriyaki chicken and veggies in action. My gyoza were also heated up on the hibachi grill. The California roll was already pre-made. I saw a woman start making some as I was about to head to a table and eat. It was cool seeing my food made in front of me. I enjoyed it. The man asked if I wanted teriyaki sauce. I said more would be great. There was a bit of a language barrier. I could tell that he was more comfortable asking me how many scoops of sauce I'd like. I said two. Perfect! One scoop of teriyaki sauce is the norm. I am so not the norm. Two works better to coat the chicken and the rice. I found a table and was ready to enjoy a late lunch. I love that no matter which Edo you visit, the food is yummy and consistent. I loved the chicken teriyaki on rice. The rice was perfect. The chicken morsels had good flavour and sear, and were delicious. The veggies were great. I was happy. The gyoza were great. They had chicken filling in it and were flavourful. The wrapper on each one was pan-fried. So good! I washed everything down with a Diet Coke. The bottle was the perfect size. I had a great experience. I'd return again for more when I'm back at this mall. (244)

Tip: This place serves excellent ramen. The miso broth was exquisite, with thick cuts of chashu…read more When I lived in Winnipeg, getting ramen at any eatery wasn't a thing. Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse was the most popular Japanese restaurant then. It didn't and continues to not have ramen on its menu. Sushi restaurants were starting to bud in the city back then. On my first day in Winnipeg earlier this month, I wanted to grab dinner before driving to Steinbach. Since I had never had ramen at a restaurant in Winnipeg, I did a search and found GaiJin Izakaya. I said yes and drove over to this eatery. This restaurant is located in a plaza. There was plenty of parking when I had arrived. I parked and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a woman. I asked if I could get a table. She led me to a booth. I'm glad that I beat the dinner rush, as she asked other customers after me whether they had a reservation. There was a QR code on the table. You scan it to access the menu. The drink menu was there on the table. It was also online. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Gyoza - Miso ramen (bamboo shoots held) - Black sesame ice cream I added gyoza for $5 to make my miso ramen a combo. I recommend it, as gyoza as an appetizer on its own is $14.50. My miso ramen came with miso broth that contained both pork and chicken flavours. This dish featured chashu, wakame, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a marinated egg. I asked if I could get the bamboo shoots held. Done! My Diet Coke came out first. I got a glass with ice. I appreciated that gesture. I poured my beverage into the glass, which made my drink nicely cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. My gyoza came out next. The filling was pork and it was delicious. Each gyoza was flavourful and perfectly fried. They were crispy and yummy. My bowl of miso ramen came out next. I was excited. The best move that this eatery does is to separate the roasted seaweed from the broth. Most eateries dunk the sheets of seaweed in the ramen and you end up eating soggy, flabby seaweed sheets. I appreciated this detail. I had a bit of roasted seaweed left and put it off to the side on a plate so it wouldn't get soggy. My server was super effective clearing items off my table. She was about to clear my plate with the seaweed on it. I asked her to hold off, so I could grab my seaweed. I can't let that go to waste. I loved it. I was also paying for good roasted seaweed. The miso ramen here is exceptional. You can tell if the broth doesn't excite me if I don't consume the entire thing. I did here. The combination of pork and chicken broth with miso was tasty and brilliant. It was wonderful. I'm drooling. The ramen was bouncy and had the perfect chew. The slices of chashu were thick and tender. It had good flavour and I enjoyed the balance between the fat and the protein. I normally get corn, but completely forgot to order some. Oops! I was content with the green onions, wakame, and jammy, marinated egg. They pulled everything together to make this miso ramen so special and comforting. I was ready for dessert. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There was matcha and black sesame. I chose the latter. I don't have black sesame ice cream often. It was so creamy and had a delightful nutty flavour to it. It was the perfect ending to this meal. My server was attentive. She got me the bill. I let her know that everything was fabulous. She was delighted. I paid with a credit card and tipped. I tapped and I was done. I used the washroom before I made the brief trip eastbound to Steinbach. It was clean. No complaints. I got melon candy as a parting gift. I loved it. It's always a favourite of mine. This eatery is a gem for delicious, authentic ramen and gyoza. Come here! This place also offers sushi rolls, baos, and more. I'd love to return and try other items on the menu. However, I feel that I'll be back for more ramen. Priorities! (250)

Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get, and the service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The interior is clean and modern, with tidy tables and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. Tip: The combos give you the best value…read more This Kinton Ramen has its soft opening happening now. Its hours of operation are from 11 am to 11 pm. I recently returned to Winnipeg on the ramen kick. I found it cool that I could more readily order ramen now than when I lived in this city. Back then, ramen wasn't a thing. I always made it at home. I came here for lunch before hitting Collection Outlet Winnipeg for hours of shopping. It was easy to find a parking spot around 1 pm on a hot Friday afternoon. I walked into the eatery. It was packed. My heart briefly sank. I wanted to dine in, but it looked crazy. I was greeted by the nicest male staffer, Daljiro, who came out from behind the counter. I let him know that I wanted to dine in. There was bar seating left. Yay! My heart was beating normally again. He asked me whether I had been here before. Nope. He was kind to explain all broth and ramen flavours and options. He was thorough and awesome. I appreciated the time he took to make sure I was good. This eatery is set up similarly to the ones that I have visited in the greater Toronto area. I got another server, female, who took down my order. She was also nice and competent. I got the miso ramen combo for one that goes for $25 before taxes, which consisted of these items: - Pork miso ramen - Pork gyoza - Diet Coke The pork miso ramen comprises soy sauce, pork (chashu), bamboo shoots, garlic oil, wood ear mushrooms, pickled red ginger, and scallions. I asked that the bamboo shoots be held. I also added a marinated egg and corn. My Diet Coke came out first. It was in a glass with ice. It was refreshing and it worked nicely with everything that I ate. The pork gyoza came out next. I got four of them that were crispy and delicious. The filling was packed in each one of them and was seasoned perfectly. I liked that this place went harder on the scallions than most eateries tend to do. Excellent! My ramen had finally arrived. I was excited! The ramen was chewy and done right. I loved everything in my bowl. The two slices of chashu were tender with the perfect amount of fattiness. Yummy! The jammy egg was excellent, as were the scallions, corn, and wood ear mushrooms. I don't recall seeing any pickled red ginger. I didn't mind its omission. The garlic oil was a nice touch. The miso broth was flavourful and almost creamy. Like with all Kinton Ramen joints, the broth tends to be peppery. If you aren't a fan of so much pepper in the broth, you'll probably dislike it. I polished off the broth. It was delicious. My pet peeve dining at restaurants in Winnipeg has resurfaced. I don't have this issue anywhere else. I had slurped ramen. A manager came over to me and asked how "everything was tasting." I can't answer you. I have a mouthful of delicious ramen. Maybe time your question better? I'm pretty sure that you saw me put food in my mouth, but didn't care about this point. I actually had to gesture that I was chewing as she was waiting for me to respond. Totally awkward. I managed to give a thumbs-up sign instead. This issue happened at two other eateries. I haven't missed this question in a while. It's why my review isn't a perfect one. I don't mind the question. However, it should be timed better if you truly want a response. I used the washroom before I embarked on my shopping excursion at the outlet. It was clean. It didn't have the pig-shaped mirror like the one at Kennedy Commons does in Scarborough. I normally don't comment on other reviews while I write mine. I wondered why this place got a low rating. It's new! It turns out that the Yelper from Surrey felt that service was poor, the ramen was too peppery, and the chashu was skimpy compared to what he was used to with his Kinton Ramen on the west coast. Perhaps service was poor when he was here. Fair enough. It was great when I dined in, minus the tasting question. The broth is always peppery. I suppose that you can ask that the pepper be toned down or removed. I am hoping that it's not standard in the broth itself, but it shouldn't be a surprise to him if he has visited two other locations in British Columbia. As for getting more slices of chashu, two has always been the standard at Kinton Ramen in the GTA. I've never got more unless I've requested additional chashu for a charge. Maybe it's an exception to get generous with chashu out west. I wouldn't know, but a two-star rating seems harsh. I had a great experience. I'd return again and hope that I don't get any questions about how things are tasting when I can't talk with food in my mouth. (251)

I was here about 20 years ago, but on this newest trip to the place, it looks nice,…read morerustic.........sat down at a table (not part of the lounge), we had a almost 2 year old with us and 3 adults and a youth. No one was in our area when we arrived, the waitress was nice and friendly...........she asked for our drinks and gave us time to read the menu, I notice an ant crawling on the table, but it didn't gross me out so much, as we were almost willing to eat outside, but didn't. Not to long after we ordered, another family walked in and sat at a table near us. We noticed a manager looking guy coming out to greet the family, when they came in and they had the same waitress as us, but Mr.manager never came to say Hi to us., I didn't want to think racist...but that man never talked to us, only when it came to give us our food. And when the food (appetizers) came it was alright, until the nachos got to us, we asked for oaxaca cheese nachos but looked like we just got cheddar, (we thought, maybe because we look native...we wouldn't be able to tell the difference or complain (because most native people don't speak up), also they came burnt to hell, my boy said it tasted like eating charcoal but we were too hungry to complain, but I did metion to the waitress, "looks like the wrong cheese", she just told me "they must have used a cheese blend", which would be fine but we ordered the oaxaca cheese nachos and oaxaca cheese is white (maybe I read it wrong.) As we ate the burnt nachos, that had the wrong cheese from what we ordered, our main meals came out. And they looked ok, but as we ate my brother almost choked on some metal scrub ball for washing dishes (small pieces of it), he thought it was his main dish, but then my boy said while eating the nachos he felt something sharp go down his throat, he thought it was a sharp chip, but when he thought back and saw what my brother had found, he thought it was most likely the scrub ball. I'm just thankful that the baby just wanted the plain chips! (don't even want to think about if the baby had gotten the wire scrub and ate it.) After that, I got so freakin grossed out and when the waitress said "are we not getting dessert". Yuck, heck no! Check please!,(is what I thought,) and they are lucky we paid them at ALL! They probably thought we wouldn't notice the difference in the cheese and re-heated an old order, that wasn't sold (that's why it came back almost black and with the wrong cheese) but jokes on them, I'm half mexican, so I know exactly what oaxaca cheese looks like. I'm so disgusted with this place, its only good if your white or drinking booze, this place is crap for food and hospitality. I give every place I go to a fair chance, but that was garbage and I'm never ever going to that place again. It was so crap, this is my first ever post of a review for anyplace. And I've been to crap places but it's like people just don't care about people anymore. Zero stars for kitchen staff and 2 stars for waitress, she didn't even really know the menu and had to keep going to the kitchen to ask questions. Just all around disappointing experience.

I had a gift card to use at any The Keg Steakhouse and Bar. I decided that I'd use it on my birthday and treat myself to a quality dinner. Last year, I was in the area and had two steakhouse choices. I went with Mr Mikes. This year, I chose The Keg. This location is the only one out of the bunch in Winnipeg that I had yet to visit. I came here after taking in a matinee movie at the Cineplex nearby. It was just before 6 pm. I drove over here and found parking in a vast parking lot. It was busy. I walked in. I was immediately greeted by a female staffer. I was looking for a table for one. She said that there was bar seating. No wait. Perfect! I selected a seat that faced the screen with the Argentina - Cape Verde FIFA World Cup game that was about to start. Nice! The lobster summer menu looked so good. However, I had my heart set on a prime rib dinner. I stuck with my original plan. I got the nicest bartender who took my order: - Diet Pepsi - Classic prime rib meal: - Mixed greens with mustard vinaigrette - Ten-ounce prime rib (medium) with au jus, crispy onions, mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and horseradish - Caesar brussels sprouts My Diet Pepsi came out first. It was cold and refreshing. I would get a refill later on. A couple sat next to me. They were probably in their sixties. The man said hi to me. I reciprocated. They talked about fishing and how they used to live in Ontario with one of the bartenders. They were clearly regulars at this establishment, as they ended up chatting with at least two other bartenders. My food had arrived. Three plates. It look like I hadn't eaten in years! The couple looked at everything that I had. The man: You deserve the Order of Manitoba if you can finish everything. Me: It's my birthday and I plan on enjoying everything. I am normally not that bold to state that it's my birthday. I was looking forward to this meal, I would eventually polish off all three plates of food because I was hungry and I had wanted this meal. I started with the mixed greens with mustard vinaigrette. Everything was so crisp and fresh. The pickled onions gave a nice contrast to the plump tomatoes, yummy cucumbers, and fresh mixed greens. The mustard vinaigrette was excellent. Every bite had the perfect amount of it. I loved the prime rib. It was medium. Tender. Yummy. The au jus was perfect. Every morsel got dunked in it. The crispy onions looked like a lot. However, enjoying them with the mashed potatoes and au jus was the perfect amount. The mashed potatoes were comforting. I liked that the skin was left on the taters before they got mashed. The caesar brussels sprouts were outstanding. It tasted like a caesar salad with the best creamy dressing, buttery croutons, and a lemon wedge to squeeze over everything. The brussels sprouts were roasted to perfection and were scrumptious. I want to recreate this side. During my meal, the man said to the bartender that I could buy any drink, as it was my birthday and he was treating. It was such a sweet gesture. I was not expecting it. I got a mojito. Moments later, it appeared in front of me. I thanked the couple for making my dinner extra special. They wished me a happy birthday and we clinked glasses. The mojito was so good. I love any drink with lime and mint. It was wonderful. I stayed to watch the entire FIFA game. Argentina won in extra time. I presented my gift card to my bartender. I had printed it out, as it was a digital one. I said to use it all, which would include the tip. Done! I thanked the couple again for their kind gesture and for making my day so special. They were so gracious and wished me a happy birthday again and a good evening. I headed to the women's washroom before making tracks back to Steinbach. Another benefit sitting by the bar is that the washrooms are a few steps away. The women's washroom felt fancy. The stall that I used was clean. No complaints. I had an exceptional experience here.
