    River Ride

We highly recommend the 1 1/2 hour River Ride with Dillard House Stables. The horses ride through the shallow river and it's a beautiful experience. Be prepared to get your feet wet. The surrounding area is beautiful and our guide Lexie took pictures of us and texted them to us right after our ride. There was also a professional photographer that took pics for purchase. The horses were easy going and well tempered. Lexie was a great guide and our experience from booking to completion was very good.

I HIGHLY recommend the horseback riding with the river component if you visit Dillard House Stables. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. If you're ever in Georgia, visit here! There's so much to take advantage of here: horseback riding, petting zoo, the restaurant, the vineyard, the lodge, and the conference center. It's a gorgeous view of the mountains and a great place to spend time with family and friends. I went horseback riding here with my friends and we had a great time. It was just the four of us on our hour and a half tour through the river. I recommend wearing shorts and water shoes for this! Call ahead if the weather isn't great because they will cancel the tour, even if you're already there! We had a great time walking in line through the river, over small hills, and through a few challenging pathways with our horses. My horse's name was Coop. My fiancé was given the absolutely slowest horse they have who refused to walk in like with us. If you go here do NOT get on that horse, it almost ruined the whole trip. I was a little annoyed that our guide though this was ok and only until the horse couldn't be moved called in a young boy named Cole who got Slow Joe (horse) moving. This is great for kids and adults. I would certainly come here again. I would love to do a wine tasting or stay in their lodges. Take advantage of the pictures here. They are 5 for $50 - basically $10 each. We got a great group photo and individuals.

My family had such a good time here at DH Stables. We made a reservation the day before and arrived early in the morning the next day. They take cash at the stable, but if you're paying by card, you'll need to do that at the restaurant, and the stable will give you a receipt to take up to them. Kayla was our trail guide, and she was amazing. My daughter got a little scared going down the hill on her pony, and Kayla walked her through it and encouraged her to complete the trail ride. She took us through the fields, woods, and along the creek (but not in the creek because it was wicked cold out), and then back up to the stable. There was a photographer waiting who took family and individual pictures, which was nice because it's hard to take those kinds of pictures when you're riding a horse at the back of the line. I would recommend the DH Stables for trail rides to anyone in the area. Very professional and friendly. The horses were great and easy to ride.

Megan and Carolyn were awesome guides. We recommend horseback riding through the Dillard house farm!

Had an AMAZING experience this Saturday! The entire time was beyond enjoyable and relaxing. Gracie was an absolute sweet heart and told me the history of the place and how well taken care of the horses are! This was a huge deal for me to know these horses are well kept and cared for! Highly recommend going

The barn and horse pasture with all the horses out eating!!! I love this view from our room at The Dillard House in Dillard, Georgia.

Super nice people and sweet horses, they have great trails with three trails and three different riding times!

Beautiful horses. This place is so organized. You call ahead and make reservations and they are on it when you get there. What a fun experience. They also have a petting farm that is free with food to give to the animals. I think this is great for families of all ages and worth coming to. It's right behind the Dillard House.

Very friendly, professional staff. We really enjoyed our river trail ride. Our 7 & 8 year olds wanted to get off the horses as soon as they got on because they were scared, but the wonderful girls put them at ease and we were on our way and my children had the best time and want to do it again. The trail was beautiful! Highly recommend!

These people run an upright operation and you can ride safety with confidence that you are supporting a worthwhile establishment. The trail is beautiful, like you only see in movies!! Feet might get a little wet in the river ride ( but probably not), ride early and often ... I do and it never gets old!!!

The food is plentiful an delicious A must visit it's worth a mountain drive for the food alone. But it offers lodging horse rides.

I rode Tripoli, he was super friendly and wanted scratches and snuggles after the ride. My mom rode Rocket, he was slow and stable (good for her). This is very informal, and you can tell that these horses do not have to do the same thing over and over. Very customizable, and you will be the only group riding. Very Nice!

But when they moved to Georgia, I was so elated that I had to go and do another trail ride with them. The drive to Clayton was quite scenic, with lush greens and beautiful mountains to look at. It is about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta, but definitely worth it! Their new barn is in a residential area, with some beautiful trails heading to the mountains. The ride to the mountains was so peaceful and relaxing, and ability to trot and canter the horses was amazing, giving some added thrill to the ride. I was so happy to ride Tripoli again, who is a very beautiful and sweet white Arabian gelding. He was responsive to my commands, and was quite forgiving when making a mistake. While Tripoli's trots are a little bouncy (though, can be posted pretty easily), his canters are as smooth as a rocking horse. Ken is such a friendly and amazing guide. He really helps you learn how to control the horses correctly and helps the timid riders gain their confidence on the horses. While he makes safety of the horses and riders his highest priority, as long as the horses are up for it, and he find it safe to do so, he lets you trot and canter almost anytime you want (the only time when he suggested against it was going downhill for obvious reasons ;) ). The horses here very sweet, friendly, and well taken care of. They get fed twice per day, and get plenty of breaks during and in between the rides. They all love having treats, so be sure to bring carrots and peppermints. They will treat you even extra nice if you bring those. :) The cost of the ride is $50 for a 1.5 hour ride if only a single person is riding, or $40 per person if 2 - 4 people are riding. The ride is indeed private, with no other strangers riding with you. It is worth every penny and I can't wait to go back to Georgia and ride with them again soon!

Unfortunately, the trip wasn't without its bumps -- literally. On our very first day, one of our family members took a fall during the electric bike tour and was injured, which prevented her from participating in the rest of the scheduled activities -- including horseback riding. We were especially disappointed that the horseback riding company showed little to no empathy and refused to issue a refund, despite the circumstances being clearly explained. It was disheartening to experience that kind of rigidity during what was meant to be a joyful time. A heads-up to future riders: If you book with this company, make sure you have zero mishaps () -- or better yet, do what a few of the other couples we met did and book the same day. Wish we had done the same, instead of booking in advance and being locked in. Otherwise, Franklin was lovely, and the memories we made will still be cherished.
