I know very little about computers and so had Damon order me one and transfer all my files from my old to my new computer. Turned it on that night but one big file was missing on the new computer. I called at Friday about 8ish PM and received a call within 30 minutes. Damon did a remote control of my computer and checked and completely owned up that the file transfer didn't go through. He didn't stumble, lie or make excuses to me. He offered to fix it the next day which was Saturday and normally closed. I asked how to do it, he walked me through the steps which was easy enough and a short time later the computer is back in business. I came across digital dummies and could not believe every review was 5 stars. Things are usually too good to be true... Damon is the exception. I moved to the Ventura area at the beginning of the year and my laptop started running slower and slower the longer I was here. Something was clearly wrong. Everything took forever and my screen would freeze a few times a day. It was really slowing down my productivity. I didn't get it repaired because I didn't know where to go and I didn't want to be without my computer for several days. I don't know why I didn't check yelp sooner, but I finally did and picked Damon based in his reviews. He deserves all of those 5 stars! I called Damon and told him what was going on. Then I told him I was going out of town the next week and maybe it would be better if I dropped it off right before my trip so I wouldn't have to live without it while I was home trying to work. The shop I used where I lived previously took at least 2 days to get to my computer. He said that wasn't necessary and that he usually had a 24 hour turn around. I was amazed. I took my computer in at 5pm on a Thursday. Mid afternoon on Friday I get a call from Damon saying my computer was ready to be picked up. He charged a very reasonable rate and gave me some good pointers about maintenance and backing up parts of my hard drive. And now my computer is running beautifully! What an awesome experience! My HP all-in-one desktop had stopped working (would power on but the display would not come on) and being new to the area and not knowing where to go I took it to Best Buy geek squad. They looked at it for 2 minutes and said I had a bad motherboard - without even opening the computer. Decided to get a second opinion. Searched on Yelp and thanks to so many positive reviews I came across Digital Dummies. Dropped my computer off with Damon after he told me that this problem was common with HP PCs (bad memory stick.) A couple of days later my computer was up and running. Damon also cleaned everything inside my computer from dust and lint that had accumulated over the years. My MacBook recently ran out of warranty. My battery of course is now no longer holding charge. I called them up to ask how much battery replacement would be and they proceeded to tell me honestly that i coulf probably purchase a battery on eBay for $20. The battery I purchased ended up actually being $37.99 but I am so impressed with their honesty. I price checked Amazon as well which ended up being $64.99. Now that I think about it, why shouldn't i be able to open up the back, follow some simple instructions and replace the battery myself? Though I expected a drop off and phone call later in the day with some sort of minimum fee, Damon dropped what he was doing and found a quick/immediate fix. Damon was awesome, I was in a bind, I needed my computer fixed today for a big meeting tomorrow morning. I needed a new battery for my 2011 Macbook pro, he didn't have a new one so lent me a used one, installed a new solid state drive, now my boot up speed is like 20 times faster, then when the new battery came in he swapped it for the one he lent me. Up-front and honest! I was ready to give this guy a blank check to replace my motherboard. Originally I was ready to perform the surgery myself but I was spooked by some OVER-explaining the procedure by friends of mine. He quickly brought my expectations back to reality and even pointed out a few more things I can do to diagnose my motherboard before I unwrapped the new one! I am going to replace this board anyway because it allows me to upgrade to a better processor later. Damon is fantastic! I've used his service a couple of times over the last couple of years and have been very impressed not only with his technical knowledge but also his customer service. First time I came to him was about 2 years ago with a laptop that had some issues with the screen completely going crazy and shutting off while in use. I found him right here on yelp and his initial fee for diagnosis seemed fair. He diagnosed the problem with in a couple of days and fixed it quickly and cheaply. He also fixed a few other minor issues with the screen hinge and made a few quick tweaks that sped up my computer. Fast track to a couple of months ago, I had another issue with a different laptop, he took a quick look and the fix was so quick he didn't even charge me. Third, I had a hard drive go bad and of course contacted Damon first. He said the drive would be better handled by someone more specialized and referred me appropriately. He then went above the call of duty -- by the time it was determined the drive was going to cost too much to fix I had already been transferred to Virginia thanks to Uncle Sam: Damon mailed me my drive in Virginia. Bottom line, there's no question where I would go for computer repair as far as technical knowledge, customer service, and trustworthiness. I would even send my future repairs to him from across the country solely based on the fact that there's no doubt my stuff will be well taken care of. You won't be disappointed! Finally, I'd like to point out that I rarely take the time to write reviews. I know, that makes me kind of a mooch. I originally found Damon on Yelp a year and a half ago when I was in desperate need of a laptop computer screen replacement due to an upcoming business trip. When I called him he told me to bring the laptop right in. When it turned out that he didn't have a screen that fit that laptop, he went on Internet and found one. He called me a couple of days later to say that it had come in, and fixed it while I waited. I have since had him work on a couple more of my computers, and have been completely satisfied with each repair job. He is very knowledge in both software and hardware, honest, and a real pleasure to work with. Although his repair shop isn't shiny like a computer store (it looks like a real repair shop), his work is far superior to any work I have gotten anywhere. Great service. Helpful. It looks like Damon is the Owner, Technician, counterperson and everything else. I was impressed with how fast and cheap it was to replace a laptop screen and returned with two other laptops. Damon took an ultra thin ultra laptop apart, cleaned out the fan, added new thermal paste in just a few hours. Laptop #3, needed more work to fix a minor problem and didn't charge to open it up and put it back together. 1) I can fix any tower computer myself, but as far as LAP TOPS: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! I have destroyed two laptops by fixing them myself. 2) Be prepared when you walk in the Digital Dummy's front door. It looks kind of like a computer boneyard. The office, workshop, service bench, spare parts inventory, as well as repairs in progress are all in one large room. Personally I like this better than the sterile front counter you find in most franchise repair shops where they whisk your goods away to work on them. read more
