I was here today for the first time and was excited about trying it. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed. A few things- There really needs to be a vegetarian protein option. Next, When I asked for the tofu salad as one of my sides, the server slopped it on my plate and only after it was there did he tell me it costs extra. The tables aren't kept clean so you have to wipe them off yourself. My boyfriend- They were out of rice and said he can wait ten minutes for it or nothing- he asked for an extra side and they said no. Ridiculous to make a customer pay for something they're not getting. Also, $8 for a juice? Ha. In sum, bad service, decent food- not dying to go back. My friend will not stop raving about the corn on the cob she ate for lunch today at Dig Inn. I got a big market plate with steak. Portion size is good but man, what an awful piece of steak. It was tough, chewy, flavorless and underdone. I do like my steak rare but having to chew a slice of almost raw beef for 10 minutes is not pleasant. My receipt says the steak was grilled and chilled. I've been patronizing this restaurant since they opened in early Spring and I've never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and well seasoned. All of the options are well priced and the portions are appropriate. It's really nice to see so many flute free options. I would like to see more variation with the menu. I've tried everything ( minus the sandwiches) and have been satisfied. The meatballs are great and I love the Brussels sprouts and gluten free Mac n cheese. The salmon is over cooked and can bee a bit dry. You should try their selection of iced teas with free refills! I've seen the management enhance the experience by making the process is ordering quicker and more efficient. The staff is always friendly and the space is usually quite clean. read more

Long have a been a fan of Dig Inn. Their food is healthy, well-balanced, and consistently delicious, all while remaining affordable to the common person. The ambience is always inviting and the customer service is always top-notch. I can't recall ever having a bad experience at any of their locations. One location, in particular, though, I hold in special regard: 112th and Broadway. It was the first Dig Inn I ever dined at actually and it's place I return to frequently, because the food is that good, the environment is that welcoming and the staff is that competent and friendly. One standout staffer that comes to mind is a young man named Daniel. Friendly and engaging as he is knowledgeable and helpful-- a pleasure, it always is, interacting with him. Shakeem and Daniel were very helpful. I come here a lot but this was the first time I was told that the cauliflower has dairy and soy in it (thank you Daniel!) That's pretty important to mention. Also, I go to Columbia and like most students, I'm money conscious. So when I walked in thirty minutes before they closed and they offered me two bowls for the price of one, I was thrilled. It was especially meaningful because they clearly had a lot of food left and it most likely would have been thrown out -- so they seem to be doing what they can to combat food waste. TIP #1: Affordable, healthy, and delicious. What else could you ask for? TIP #2: Seating is tight at lunch and dinner, but it's easy to get your food to go. The simplicity of the meals at Dig Inn keeps me coming back over and over. The compostable plate is partitioned so the that generous portion of meat sits on the grains and the sides are placed in the two smaller spots. Ordering is lightning fast once you've reached the front of the line. Sometimes they're out of my favorite side (sauteed kale is super popular) but there's a kale and apple salad that's a good side dish replacement. The difference between the small and big sizes is in how much food they give you--the plate size doesn't change. When I've ordered a big plate, I've received portions that are up to 50% larger than those on a small plate. It's difficult to finish all those grains on a large plate, but still not enough food to split into two meals. Whether I order a small or big, I always feel like I'm getting a good deal because the food tastes so clean, fresh, healthy, and flavorful! Other options on the menu are salads and sandwiches, which I haven't tried. There are also a plethora of teas and juices, as well as kombucha in a refrigerated case. Dig Inn is my go-to to-go dinner spot. Their food is healthy, fresh, seasonal, and prepared right in front of you! There are always different sides and something new to try. My favorite order is a small veggie plate. The plate comes with a grain and three veggie sides. If you ever are indecisive employees will let you sample a side, so if you are curious just ask! Also, 1/2 an avocado added to your plate is only $1.00. I love avocadoes! The employees at Dig Inn I always find very friendly so hats off to their management. Definitely try Dig Inn! read more

3.5 stars I've been waiting for this spot to open, in the hopes it will a void of sandwich shops in the area. In addition, they have the boston market style platters, but much better. They offer a few proteins with 2 sides and a grain. They come in two sizes, which really just adds more protein and side action to your plate. The chicken, beets, white bean, brussels sprouts all were good. My complaint is that the small size really is pretty darn small. The amount of chicken is pretty minuscule, though all together it is a decent meal. The chicken itself is also not great, not something I would get again. The organization inside was a little off, but it's new, so I'll give them that. The veggie sandwich is also a big winner here. Overall, the food is good and it's a good addition to the area, but there are still some kinks id like to see fixed. read more

3.5 Stars. I've come here a few times now, and I enjoyed most of the stuff I've tried so far. The salmon, braised beef and turkey are all pretty good. My favorite sides are the roasted pepper, brussel sprouts and some kind of kale dish. Not a big fan of their mac and cheese or sweet potatoes though. I'm still withholding one and a half star because the portion is quite small and it is rather expensive. I recommend that you come here for lunch rather than dinner, since even the large place doesn't really amount to a filling meal. This chain is serving clean, farm-to-table food to the masses -- and at an affordable price. Awesome! I stopped by the first time because I needed a quick, healthy dinner. Although many of menu items had run out by 9p, I was still able to get a filling, fresh meal. The employees were really sweet, although as some others have mentioned, I think they might have a lot of turnover because there was a guy being trained who didn't quite know the menu yet (the same thing happened my second time, so I have to wonder how they get through the lunch rush). My second time, however, was just as good as the first. Service was fast, the food was fresh, and prices are reasonable. It definitely speaks for itself that I was drawn here for lunch the day after I had my first meal here. My chicken both times was tender and perfectly charred, while greens were crunchy and my grain sides were moist and cooked with care. I am still a little floored by how good a value this is, perfect for students on a budget or those looking for something similar to a reliable, quick corporate option like Maoz (please reopen!). I fell in love with this place because of the sides and the way the food tastes. I think it definitely know how to bring the home taste feel to food. In particular I am a fan of the beets. With that said i have been disappointed to find that they have been out of certain sides such as the mac and cheese right before dinner. In addition I was over charged by $4 and did not realize this until I was comparing my receipt to my credit card statement. Fresh is key here, everything is minutes from coming out of the kitchen. Which means it can be slow.... I wasn't in a rush, but some people were really pissed. The flank steak was delicious! I was actually pleasantly, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Now, I got a large entree and had asked to not have any of the grains, and they immediately suggested substituting with spinach, which was fantastic! As a slight aside, substituting grains with salad greens is great and I appreciate that there was no hassle, but I really wish that institutions would understand that they are not equivalent. This substitution (at my request, I know), significantly reduces the size of the meal. I wish restaurants/places to eat would recognize this fact and offer an additional side or add significantly more greens.... (end rant). Now, the chicken was what I ended up getting, and it was quite blackened (charred)...just the good side of charred. But the real star of the dish was the KALE! HOLY DELICIOUS KALE! Look, I despise Kale, it tastes like grass. I mean, honestly...like grass. BUT in honour of the new year (new you) and to drop the 40lbs of winter weight and Elite! goodiness, I need me some greens. So, without (much) hesitation I got the kale side with a side of bruskys (brussel sprouts for you newbs). The kale was so out of this world that I nearly had tears in my eyes. The servers saw my surprise and immediately went to determine the ingredients to let me know. Which, was nothing special (lemon, red wine vinegar, garlic, salt & pepper), but the proportions for everything where so spot on that you were left with a succulent, tangy, refreshing, salad. I could eat that all day. The bruskys on the other hand....were also delicious, but not really what I was looking for. I like mine pretty plain (by plain, I obviously mean with bacon). I wish they weren't so sweet, which was due to the maple syrup that I hadn't known was in them. Now, if you like that kinda thing, they aren't candy sweet by any means, and I was surprised that they had said syrup was added...it really tasted just kinda orangey citrusy, but not crazy sweet. Anyway, while a little bit pricey compared to the AMOUNT of food I was given, I don't think I could have gotten better quality anywhere else. Also, all of the servers were super friendly. I'll definitely be going back here/trying out there other dozen or so locations. Also as a side, I debated between 4-5 stars. Used to like this place but they've really given up on a few things: 1. They quit composting. (Also when they did compost they should have put up pictures of which things are compostable to make decision quick and easy for the environmentally-ignorant. 2. They've now quit recycling (at least on the consumer end)! 3. They give everyone a big plastic lid without asking first if you're staying or leaving. Why do people need an organically inert, pollutant disc just to take it off two feet away at a table? It's maddening. I know NYC is full of wasteful restaurants and there's not much of a conservational ethos, but since Dig Inn pitches itself as 'farm-to-table' fast food for the future it's a huge brand contradiction. Also, one more tip: get washable dishware and an automatic dishwasher. This place could seriously cut its waste by like 80% with a few small changes, demonstrating real commitment to the farmers they pretend to be allied with. read more

Really good fast casual... Dig Inn has great food! You get to customize your bowl with a base, two sides, and a protein. I had rice, grilled peaches, kale Caesar, and tofu. I also got the garlic tofu aioli. All of the bowl was super delicious! The portions are a nice size for the price. The stations could use more signs on what things are when building a bowl, but the workers will tell you what all the options are if you ask. read more

Came here for the first time for lunch today. It opened less than a week ago. There was a bit of a confusion on where and how to order things (on the part of the guests). It'll probably smooth itself out over the next couple of weeks. EXPERIENCE Very very crowded during lunch hour. You'll bump into your neighbor a lot. Plan to take it to go if there's no space. PRICE Fairly inexpensive. Items are less than $10 but you probably want to get the large plate. FOOD Great choices of healthy veggies like kale, beans etc... Decent options for vegetarians AND vegans. Everything I had on my plate (Roast turkey on a bed of grains, sautéed kale, roasted red peppers) are lick-your-plate delicious. OVERALL Great place for lunch or dinner, provided you don't mind taking it to go. A wide range of delicious and healthy options. So happy to have a quick and healthy option so close to campus! I don't usually write a review after visiting a place once, but this is a new location and they encouraged yelp reviews. Here it goes... Food: I had the salmon with a double order of the kale side. The kale was extremely flavorful! Salmon was well-cooked yet still moist. I thought the two complimented each other well since the salmon didn't have a strong taste otherwise. I think the price is fair. Drinks: So many options of iced tea! I had the ginger black and I think I might be obsessed. The price was very fair for these. The bottled drink options are super expensive though...$8?!? I haven't had many bottled pressed juices so maybe this is to be expected... Service: Not really exceptional but not noticeably bad either. I told him it was my first time and that I'd need some help on how to order...he seemed bored and answered my questions very shortly. When I got to the part about how to pick the sides, I got two orders of the kale because I thought my options were only the 6 or so hot sides in front of me. The couple in front of me got the kale and the spinach/walnut salad, so now I'm thinking he may have just been too bored to explain all of my options and just wanted to pass me along. Cash register people seemed more upbeat. Space: Considering how small the space is, I thought they did a good job of creating as much seating as possible without totally cramming people. I was so impressed by this place! I stopped by at lunch today, and there was plenty of empty seating. I zoomed through the line and picked the braised beef, tuscan beans, and kale. it was all good. like really, really good. and i love they let you pick a small or large size--i got the small and it was more than enough food. i thought the prices were really reasonable too! and staff was really friendly. there aren't many decent places to eat around columbia. i'm really thrilled to have a new one! read more

My favorite place by campus. Great food, great portions. Ingredients are fresh and the flavors are perfect. They hit every part of my palette. It's great. Plates are great for winter especially, so still good for those summer cravings. The salads are refreshing and very generous. The only thing is that they don't change many of their dishes around, so it could get boring but I love the options so I'm happy with what they have! I go all the time. Would recommend for any meal. SO delicious! I can't stop thinking about it. Love love love that it's healthy food focused on quality and simple ingredients. The line is a bit chipotle-like and it can get really crowded but its' worth it. I ordered a large plate of the flank steak, beet and pumpkin seed salad, and roasted sweet potatoes. The steak was so tender and just melted in my mouth. And the sweet potatoes were perfectly roasted and not soggy at all (a huge pet peeve of mine). The pumpkin seed beet salad was amazing too. So since re-trying Dig Inn from the last time, I have actually grown to become a fan! There are a few things that bother me about Dig Inn still- I had a friend eat from Dig Inn once and get food poisoning (pretty sketchy there), the vibe is always very weird, the market place food options just are not that good (the only thing I can say I honestly like is the Mac N' Cheese), and the sandwiches' quality varies each time I go. With that said, I always get the Kluk N' Kale, and most of the time, I think it's great! UPDATE: I've started getting the small plate with sweet potatoes, mac N cheese, brown rice, and chicken. I honestly really love Dig Inn now - they seem to be getting much more consistent, so I'm very glad I gave it another shot! It's now one of my morningside favorites! read more

Now the servings have shrunk and with in the last 2 months at different times I have been served overcooked slimy carrots, undercooked rice, undercooked sweet potatoes.
