Great slice of pizza after a long evening of pub-hopping. Quick, cheap, and so delicious!

I travelled all the way from Seattle to Dublin just for a vegan NY slice !!!! Ok, I didn't actually travel all that way *just* for NY pizza but ... I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally came across DiFontaine's, just north of the River Liffey. This Brooklyn boy sees "NY style pizza" and well, I stop in my tracks!!! I was just visiting the Dublin area for the first time and hadn't realized how vegan friendly Dublin can be so I didn't expect them to have vegan options. Thankfully, I was mistaken, they had a couple of different types of vegan slices. The pizza was really good. The texture was consistent with thin sliced NY pizza, the slices were a bit larger than your average NY slice, a good "problem" to have :). It feels good in the hands to have that NY slice that you can fold in half (don't cut it with a knife and fork ... don't you dare!!! haha). The cheese had an even melt to it, this in contrast to some places that use vegan cheese shreds which gives an inconsistent look, feel and melt, but no...DiFontaine's was right on point!! Another nice added touch was the vegan mayo dipping sauce available for the crust - oh my, that was delicious! They also have a vegan calzone available but it takes about 15 minutes to make so we didn't have the chance to try. One thing I noticed about Dublin eateries, they tend to close fairly early to what I'm used to, maybe 8pm or 9pm. DiFontaine's is open pretty late every day, later on some days than others. So if you're looking for a late night snack and feeling abandoned by the other local eateries, don't worry ... DiFontaine's has your back :P read more

It's alright! Is it the best pizza? Absolutely not. Does it do the job when you're hungry? Yup. Pricing is cheap compared to food in the area. You can come and order a slice. This place was super busy when I came in. It seemed to be a local hot spot for cheap eats. They had loud music playing. Pizza slices came up fast. Good for quick and cheap. The pizza is a little too saucy for me though. I like more cheese. Definitely not as good as authentic NY style pizza. I've had pizza in New York and it blows this out of the water. read more

Strategically located near all the Temple Bar madness and the pocket of gay bars. Kitschy NYC names for the slices, but this place is no copycat. I lived in NYC for many of my younger years and can attest that this is a legit slice. DiFontaine Slice: The dough is thin and crispy. The sauce tastes like it's made with high quality (perhaps San Marzano?) tomatoes. The cheese is fresh and plentiful. read more

I was excited to try this place, ordered without checking reviews first so this is my honest first impression. I ordered from Deliveroo. Arrived within 20minutes. The food quality was so impressive when it arrived, it really transports well. I ordered the x2 di Fontaine pizza slices and soda- 8euro, great value! The pizza slices are huge and very filling. I'd recommend one pizza slice per person or two if you're really hungry or want to save some for later. The pizza base was lovely like a stone baked type of crispy base, the pizza sauce is to die for and there is perfectly melted cheese on top After trying Pizza in one of the top spots in Naples pre COVID, I honestly think this pizza is better ! It must be so tough with COVID restrictions but this place is doing a fine job Will definitely continue to order from here and will stop by with friends when things get back to normal! read more

My son and I are from NYC (Brooklyn), this is some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten. He took a few bites and tossed his slice, I ate one slice and tossed the second. I don't know if I've ever ordered two slices and tossed the second. Terrible crust. Just overall lame. Better to not eat pizza in Dublin (Bambino's weak also, slightly better, but I don't think locals or tourists know any better). Real NYC'ers laughing at this "pizza". read more

Have to give it 1 star. Had it a few years ago and it was a solid 3 out of 5. Tried again today. 6.50 for 1 slice which is outrageous. The pizza itself was tasteless bland, burnt at the base. I have honestly tasted better frozen pizza's from Aldi. read more

Pizza. I love pizza. A big fat slice, that is the size of a burly man, for €3 I really love. This spot has not been open a month yet and it is a very simple pizza joint. No loos, just stools and a long counter on either side where you can sit with your slice on it's paper plate. Good pizza choice. I went for their self named slice and it hit the spot. Base was a bit over cooked but the toppings were just right as were the choice of spices to sprinkle on top. Bob Marley was blasting on the radio which sums the joint up. Really chilled out and a great pre/post pub snack or a fast cheap lunch. read more

I ALMOST dropped a 4-star on this place based on the price-per-slice, but I went to this place twice in three days so it must have been that noteworthy! I spent time in Park Slope (Brooklyn) and throughout NY and this is spot-on to the norm with the selection, size, and taste. One of the only places in the area that is open late. Yum. This cosy pizzeria is quite tasty and decently priced. The pizza itself is "New York style", in that the slices are large and the dough is thin. It's actually quite good. For 4 Euro you can get a slice of pepperoni pizza. 3 Euro will get you cheese. Better than that, however, is that they have these calzones for €4.50, which are absolutely brilliant. There's this one that has spicy meatball and pepperoni. It isn't quite like a pizza itself wrapped over, more of a long pizza roll - but the ingredients are quite tasty. As I wrote in the beginning - yum. The service is friendly and cordial. Genuinely so. The Italian cook is a joy to speak with and he remembers your face, name, and what you like. He's also friendly and it's not just politeness, it's actual charm. The Ukrainian behind the counter is equally friendly and quick at making you a fresh slice/calzone. read more

I am without a doubt the worst traveling New Yorker in the world. When I got off my flight and first into Dublin I was starving and wanted something simple to eat so I'd have enough energy to explore. Of course I go into the "New York" style pizzaria in Ireland. It's a small establishment with a decent selection of pizza. I grabbed a pepperoni slice (just shy of 5 euros) and enjoyed. It didn't taste like a true NY slice, but it was good. If I'd have to choose a state, I'd say it was similar to Vermont pizza. Check in on Yelp and you'll get a free soda! read more

The most difficult thing about this pizzeria is that I have to walk by it on my way to the gym. This poses the question - do I want a few inches on or off my waist.... because the pizza slices here are delicious! Di Fontaines is always a firm fave after a night out in Dublin. The beauty about this pizza is that it genuinely tastes just as good when you are sober as it does when you are plastered. Err I mean tipsy or merry of course! Consistency is the quay, sorry location is near the quay on Parliament street. The key here is that the same recipe is adhered to time and time again. This is a business that I would hope to visit in another ten years and they would still be chucking out the same great tasting pizza slices to their customers. If you go later the bumpy drunks can get a little bit annoying. I saw one of them disregarding his paper plate in favour of dining straight off the wooden ledge - Ecoli anyone??! So for that reason I would never come here past 1am on a Friday or Saturday night. Its too small to cohabit space with folk who have left their spacial awareness beyond their temples at the bar. Its €4 for a slice of Pizza with topping or €3 for a Margherita slice. My advice is to choose the slices that look like they have been freshly made or as close to as possible. They seem to come back to life better(hotter) than some of the slices that have been there a while once they are slid into the Bakers Pride pizza oven. read more

Simply amazing. The pizza slices are HUUUUGE, and there's a nice selection of toppings. I'm a vegetarian and I must say it's sometimes a struggle to find a place that offers more than one or two options for me. Not here!! I think maybe half the pizza were veggie. Woke up in middle of the night with some kind of jet lag on our first night in Ireland. This place was about the only thing open at that hour but the pizza was terrific. The sign said open till 1am but it was closer to 2 when we went. No place to sit in there but plenty of walls to lean on. I enjoyed the 80's music playing in the background and my high school aged son got a kick out of the (much) older woman that was hitting on him. The kid is a magnet. Pretty fun crowd in there at that time of the morning. Got a sausage and pepperoni pie and brought back to apartment where everyone was up. Good New York style pizza and really hit the spot. It's good pizza and we'll certainly return to that place. read more

Julie and the team at DiFontaine are so amazing!! They were able to help me with a birthday surprise for my boyfriend, making him an epic heart shaped pizza even though it wasn't on their menu. Since I'm in Canada and my boyfriend is in Dublin I wasn't able to try the pizza myself, but as a serious Pizza lover my boyfriend added his stamp of approval. I do have to say it looked absolutely delicious! These guys are just the best ever!!! read more

Damn this pizza was gooooood!!! This was a beautiful new york style pizza that's seriously delicious. It's a small place with a few stools along a couple counters. So just know it's not a sit down restaurant with service. It's more for take out or a quick bite. It troubles me a little bit that the first thing that comes to mind to say about DiFontaine's is that I would marry that pizza. What does that say about me? Eek! Apart from that, however, this is a 'New York' style place that serves gigantic slices of thin-based, perfectly cooked, utterly gorgeous pizza for about €4 a pop. There isn't any seating, just a kind of shelf running around the room. So you stand at the side and eat your pizza, and nearly cry over how nice it is. Best after a few drinks too! read more

Back in the day I would have said DiFontaine's was the best pizza in the country. It still is amazing, but since it moved from its initial location in Eamonn Doran's it has not been as good. Perhaps its all the nostalgia and memories attached to Doran's. Perhaps I'm bitter that such a great pub got turned to a lousy tourist trap, and the pizzeria turned into yet another Leo Burdocks. Anyways DiFontaine's do massive slices of New York style pizza for between €3-€4.50. They have a range of different styles (my favourite being the classic pepperoni and jalapeno). The guys behind the counter are usually really nice and usually up for a laugh. Late at night the place gets absolutely packed with people looking for a late night feed. There is usually a good atmosphere but if you are the soberest person there it can get a little annoying (but I suppose that is like most late night food spots). Also if you check in with yelp you get a free soft drink can which is cool. read more

Small pizza shop with a NYC feel to it. There's about 20 standard pies with the options to create your own. Our Maui pie was 4/5 but perfect for a late night snack with mates, and at 24cm, it could feed a small army. Quite a few people came in for a quick slice on the run. read more

Don't we just all love this place? I think we do. It's the kind of love that is based on appreciation rather than admiration. Pizza by the slice at any time of day but more realistically night. It's quick, it tastes great (in my intoxicated opinion of course) and it's cheap. The music in there has inspired many people throughout the years to spontanously break out singing and dancing so I can't really blame the staff for not being overly cheerful at all times. There usually is a good choice of 5 or 6 different kinds, margherita, pepperoni, ham& shrooms and the veggie one are always amongst them. You can customize a bit with dried oregano, chilli flakes and parmesan cheese which you can add to your liking. I usually go for the really funky one with pineapple and olives.That's usually around 3am and I don't know any better. read more

My boyfriend and I were out for a walk last night and decided mid-way home that we were feeling a bit peckish and our collective monetary resources amounted to about a tenner. We were in Temple Bar, so bearing in mind some great reviews of Di Fontaines that I've seen on Yelp, I steered him there. The slices were only MASSIVE! and great value for €3 a pop, I got a basic margarita pizza and my boyfriend got one with goat's cheese or feta... Both were delicious, very filling, base was nice and crunchy and the cheese was lovely and melty (not rubbery, yuck) and the tomato sauce was lovely too, not too watery and not really sweet. No frills here - a counter and some stools is all, but yummmmmy. Will deffo be back. read more

As an ex-pat who grew up in New York, sometimes I just want a nice, greasy slice of New York pizza that's as big as my face, When that urge hits, DiFontaine's is the place to go. The slices are huge, the toppings are plentiful and the pepperoni tastes like pepperoni should. While it can get busy late at night, I particularly like stopping in after a session and getting one of my favourite slices: a combo of pepperoni, onion and romano cheese. This is just the perfect combination to make me feel like I could be standing on 7th Avenue instead of Parliament Street. They have a great selection of slices available from the old standbys to the ultra-spicy to the purely vegetarian. There is nothing fancy about this place which is one of the reasons I like it and at only €4 or €5 for a gigantic slice, it's definitely worth trying out. read more

After having had a slice at the Yelp Secret party, I went back to this pizza joint yesterday. The pizza slices are as big as your face - in true New York style and only €3 a pop! I had the ricotta cheese pizza slice which was a meal in itself! Without doubt the nicest take-away pizza slices in Dublin. I used to love a late night slice of the New York-style pizza when DiFontaine's sat next to Eamonn Doran's in Temple Bar. When it closed down I thought it was gone for good - until I spotted this place last year. As well as looking the same, it sure tastes just as fantastic. The only reason why this isn't getting a five star, is because of the obnoxiously loud music and curtness of the staff who work the late shift. Top notch grub though. read more

Tried ordering to the Westin--somehow couldn't seem to get through: (a) that we didn't have a Dublin mobile or could text; or (b) where/what the Westin was or how to spell it; not to mention delivery somehow changed from 7 to 7:30 pm during the course of the call. Invariably, the call ended with a hang-up (on their end). The pizza (23 Euro + delivery -- damn expensive if you ask me) could be delicious, but we will never find out. Customer service goes a long way... in some cases, it precludes service. **Amendment: I received an email from the owner apologizing for my experience (which is very considerate). Unfortunately, I am many thousands of miles away from Dublin now and unable to provide further feedback on the establishment or any second attempts at trying pizza; however, potential delivery customers: please check to see if delivery is available--according to the owner, they are working towards it, but as of this amendment, is not currently offered. read more
