Sano had great pizza. Especially noticeable for being in a touristy area like Temple Bar. The pizza comes out fast, like 5-10 minutes after you order it, so don't be surprised. It's hot, flavorful, and the crust is done perfectly, not too thick or thin, crisp or doughy. Service isn't overwhelming, be ready to flag down your server if you need something...a refill or the check. Typical for here and that's ok, they leave you alone to enjoy your meal, and if you watch the locals, they aren't needy. Delicious vegan Neapolitan-style pizza (4/5 Green Stars) Our trip to Sano Pizza was a bit of a blur in a rainy, boozy night but a memorable blur. I was thinking we wouldn't have time for a sit-down dinner but the pizza came out so fast that my concerns were allayed. Here's the complete, concise and abridged lowdown on Sano Pizza: Sano Pizza was founded by twins Ray and Tony McHugh (former owners of Chez Jules, decades ago) who were inspired by a trip to Naples. They imported two traditional stone ovens from Naples that allows them to cook pizza in 1.5 minutes at 500 degrees (Celcius!). Sano's Neapolitan-style pizza is made from a sourdough that's fermented for 2 days - producing a crust that's soft and chewy (and more digestible). Service at Sano Pizza is efficient and friendly - they were especially accommodating as we were in a rush. As we were leaving there were a lot of people waiting for tables, so get there early! I was impressed that there are two vegan pizza options. On the online menu there's one called Delizia d'Autunno (cream of pumpkin, mixed mushrooms, red semi-dried cherry tomato & truffle vegan mayo) but mine was different. It was simply called Vegan Pizza 2 on the menu, which didn't give me a lot of hope, to be honest. (The other pizza, revered online as the Delizia d'Autunno, was listed merely as Vegan Pizza 1.) But my pizza was fresh and delicious with lots of caramelized onions, fresh basil, courgette/zucchini, and - my fave part - potato! Let it be known that potato is a highly underrated pizza topping. If I'd had more than twenty seconds to peruse the menu I would have also noticed that any pizza can be made with vegan cheese for no extra charge! Next time, I want to try the vegan version of the Mediterranean pizza (tomato sugo, vegan cheese, grilled peppers, mushrooms, courgette, and finished with basil pesto). They also do a vegan panna cotta for dessert - something I would try next time, as it's rare to find a plant-based version. I'm giving Sano Pizza 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * There are many vegetarian pizzas on the menu, which can also be made vegan (vegan cheese instead of mozzarella) at no extra charge. This is a really nice touch - vegans are often charged more for these substitutions, as the vegan ingredients often do cost a bit more. This way, there's no disincentive to picking the more sustainable and ethical choice. I've tried many vegan cheeses (and also eat regular cheese sometimes) and thought that the kind they used worked very well on my pizza. * Also great to see that there were two dedicated vegan pizzas and even a vegan panna cotta for dessert. * As far a meat goes, Sano Pizza avoids those with the largest environmental footprints (beef and lamb) and uses mainly pork products (ham, salami). Same deal with fish, choosing anchovies and tuna instead of the more destructive crustaceans like shrimp. (Clarification: destructive, high-impact fishing methods; the crustaceans themselves are not destructive!) * Would be nice to see more beers on tap - draught beer, transported in reusable kegs has a much lower footprint compared to bottles or cans. * On packaging, from an Irish Times review of delivery pizza from Sano: "The pizza boxes are made from recycled cardboard and most of the other takeaway containers are biodegradable." read more

We came here for lunch. We ordered the Margherita the meatball pizza special and the house salad. It took awhile to get our food, considering it only takes minutes to cook these thin pizzas. My son enjoyed the margherita, the meatball pizza was lukewarm at best. Lukewarm pizza is not good. The house salad was good. It's not hard to get a pizza, it isn't relatively hard to get a good pizza. But a few stand out amongst the rest. Sano is one of those! Why? Soft dough with a crust that is the right amount of crispy but also a nice doughy chew. Quality ingredients used throughout I had the Vesuvius, Nduja, Spicy Salami fresh chillies and basil. Sano is fresh, authentic, top quality pizza and for €12.50 you can't go wrong! Marginally pricier than the likes of Apache but on a different stratosphere! We had the worst service at this restaurant. We waited to be seated for over 40 minutes. When we went to ask if we would be seated soon, they said they already called our name and we missed it. Lies. Our waiter came to our table one time (to take our order), after asking for someone to please take our order after sitting there for 20 minutes minutes. We had to ask for wine glasses and plates. Terrible experience! Rude staff! Do not buy a voucher for this restaurant. I arrived at this restaurant after phoning in advance as instructed on my voucher, only to be shouted at by an extremely aggressive manager when I tried to redeem it at 6.30pm. The manager insisted that vouchers weren't valid after 6pm, despite this not being written anywhere on my voucher or despite the fact I called in advance. Appalling experience from Sano Pizza yesterday evening via a Deliveroo order, having supported this restaurant with dine in over the years and the restaurant previously run by the owners on D'Olier St. I will never set foot in it again. Gave the manager an opportunity to resolve the issues, who was not receptive to any reasonable discussion and instead decided to just be completely arrogant and smart over the phone. In brief, all i asked for was a tomato sauce base on a PIZZA that doesn't normally have one as part of a substantial order and instead of fulfilling the request or calling to clarify they stubbornly sent the order without and scribbled in marker all over the box "Sorry, we couldn't give sauce as it costs extra on Deliveroo!!!". I then found the order to be completely cold and that they had forgotten a side. Re the pizza base, the manager then claimed on the phone that they are asked for 'free things' all the time and i shouldn't be trying to get things for free. He didn't appear to have any knowledge of the Deliveroo menu format when challenged and started making further nonsensical statements. I called out his manner via my Instagram platform and was then just simply blocked along with a number of people who told me that they too wrote in to condemn the behaviour. Absolutely shocking service from the hospitality sector giving the testing times ahead and the 'cooler than thou' attitude is totally unbecoming of a restaurant manager in 2020. Do not recommend, please support restaurants in Dublin that actually appreciate the public's support at this time - they no longer care about quality and good service.
