Really enjoyed the food and service in Diego's. We had the pulled pork fajitas which were huge and easily a meal for two. A very nice upscale Tex Mex place and a pleasurable surprise for us. Only suggestion I have is if a table is obnoxiously loud and other quieter folks are close by say something or do something. We had to leave early and skip a second round and desert because the folks sitting behind us were bragging on and on about having moved out of the US for retirement to their friends and could be heard for miles. read more

Awesome food, no kidding. Some of the best Mexican-like food I've had. I say 'Mexican-like' because it's not like other Mexican places. They put nice little twists on things which make the food unique but it good ways. We're ceviche snobs and their's was top-notch. Ordered another round of it after the first one. The carne asada was really, really, really good. Best I've had anywhere. Be warned... the pork osso buco that people herein rave about... NOT! Ordered it and was very disappointed. The flavors were great, but WAY too much sauce and it's very rich... so much so that between two of us, we couldn't finish it. Just way too much of it- they could use a tenth of that sauce and improve the dish ten-fold. If you're tempted, try ordering it with the sauce on the side. But all the other dishes were outstanding. The place is super crowded and seating is tight. Noisy too. But the upside vastly outweighs the downside - really good food. We love eating here. Our picky 10 year old always finishes his food his favorite so far is the asada quesadilla I love there home made soups, and my husband always gets the carnie asada. When you go to a restaurant for the first time, first impressions can speak volumes. My wife and I waited 20 min. which was not an issue. There was a table for 2 which needed to be clean for the next party to eat. The host said 'we will have it cleaned in 10 min'. I understand when a restaurant is busy at 6 pm. It seems the urgency was not there to seat a party of 2. When we were seated we saw the menu. We were surprised that Diego's upscale prices. With knowing that, The food was very good but the prices didn't warrant $18 for a naked burrito (some Verde sauce) with no sides. When your hungry I expect the money you put to fit the amount of food you receive. The 2 stars is for the quality of the food. Everything else would receive 1 star. This is disappointing because Redmond needs family restaurants that will not drain your wallet. read more

Tuesday @ 7:30PM When you first walk in, you'll notice the smell is fabulous. The bar area is right up front and it's a narrow building, but the food and service will make you forget. There's a variety of dishes, but they specialize in Mexican. You'll get awesome salsa and chips when you're seated. My wife had the Ranch Steak and I had the Surf & Turf (Ranch Steak and 3 Jumbo White Prawns). You can add a salad or soup of the day to your entree for $2. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted, because everything on the menu sounded so good. I highly recommend you try Diego's. read more

Can't believe we found such a terrific restaurant in the middle of nowhere (sorry Redmond). Went at 5pm on a cold wintery Tuesday and the place was packed. When we sat at the bar to wait for our table we were immediately given our drinks and a big basket of warm chips and an unusually good salsa. All three meal choices were very tasty, wait staff polite, prices reasonable. The fact that we had a table close to the entrance and we had to eat with our winter coats on did not diminish our enjoyment (after all this is a turn of the century building and it was 17 degrees outside). Menu is disjointed - steaks, seafood, Mexican, pasta. Overpriced. I enjoyed my seafood relleno but my husband's mole burrito was mostly rice, it didn't come with sides, and the mole sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. The margaritas and mojitos were tasty, though! read more

Roberto, the bartender is beyond fantastic! He was accommodating and anticipated our needs. Not only did he hold conversation with us, he engaged in conversation in Spanish with the guests next to us. Just all around he has phenomenal guest service! BEST IN CENTRAL OREGON! Diego's is a great place for Mexican-inspried food. The food here is better than any Mexican place in Bend if you want something a bit more upscale than your average cheap taco joint. The added bonus is there are some other entrees that aren't true Mexican but they are fantastic too! Try the pork carnitas raviolios or the osso bucco. Both are delicious. My wife and I usually split the tableside guac, ceviche, and an entree. The ceviche and guac are some of the best I have ever had and I grew up in California eating Mexican food all the time. If you live in Bend you are missing out by not trying Diegos. read more

The restaurant name is misleading as there is so much more on the menu than typical Mexican dishes, such as the flat iron steak with sautéed mushrooms and baked potato my husband had. Not as hungry, I had a chicken tostada with house-made salsa and guacamole and more shredded chicken than I could eat. The salsa was a treat, fruity but not too sweet served in water-size, not rock-size, glasses. And the balmy back patio covered with a massive arbor and twisted vines let me fantasize about tropical destinations. read more

I have eaten here 8-10 times and never had a bad meal. Some things have been better than others, but I've never been disappointed. I have a theory that you can tell how good a Mexican restaurant is by their salsa, and how good an Italian restaurant is by the bread in the beginning, and Diego's salsa is great, as is their food. So far I've had the chicken tortilla soup, a couple different salads, the ceviche, veggie burrito, spinach enchiladas, arrox con pollo and carne asada. I think my favorite thus far is the carne asada which was melt in your mouth texture and perfect flavor. The service is always good, and the timing right. Prompt, but not too prompt. You never feel rushed. It is by far one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in Redmond. read more

Diego's may be one of the best Mexican restaurants in the state! I haven't personally been to any better. The food is great, and has some creative takes on conventional Mexican and American fare. We were driving through Central Oregon and looking for someplace to grab some dinner on our route. Diego's was rated pretty highly on Yelp, so that made our decision. The interior is really dark, especially on a bright sunny day, so we opted to sit outside. We got there right after 5, and most of the tables were already full, you would probably need a reservation for a primetime dinner. The outdoor seating was very nice and quiet. We were brought a basket of chips and a really great, smoky-tasting salsa. I had the "Famous Mexican Pork Carnitas" (the quotes are in the menu), huge chunks of tasty, somewhat shredded roast pork over a bed of grilled onions and a mix of sweet and hot peppers. A second plate had refried black beans, Diego's signature green rice, fresh salsa, and guacamole. It was an awesome meal. My wife had the steakhouse salad, she substituted organic greens for the usual iceberg lettuce, and it was topped with a large, perfectly done steak. The salad was huge, and very good. There were many other intriguing items on the menu, like pork carnitas ravioli, and lobster chile rellenos. We don't go to Redmond very often, but we're already thinking of an excuse to go back to Diego's. read more

I called in an order of two $10 take-out meals this past week, as I have done a few times in the recent past. This time there was a podium on the sidewalk out front that said wait here for take out or restaurant seating. I waited a while, but nobody came out, so I entered the restaurant to pick up my meals. I gave the cashier my credit card, then saw a sign on the plastic partition near the register that stated a 3.5% surcharge would be applied unless one paid in cash. This was a change I was not told about when I ordered and I don't carry that much cash. This felt like an inappropriate charge dropped on me without warning. read more

Coming from Tucson, I had low expectations of Diego. My expectations were exceeded! The salsa was great - fresh, flavorful, not spicy at all really. The menu has some variety, and I assume that is due to some people not actually wanting Mexican food. The seafood enchiladas were packed with shrimp, and flavor. Good higher-end Mexican restaurants are hard to find, particularly in this area. Diego's is a solid choice if this is what you are looking for. The place is always clean, the servers are all friendly, and it is good for families, casual meals, or business affairs. The menu has a lot of options for all ages and food tastes. They do tend to get busy, so you need to plan your visit accordingly. As for the food, the chips and salsa are about average, and the menu items are above average in both taste and presentation. The prices are just about right for the area, portions and food quality. If you are looking for some good Mexican food in a pleasant environment, stop by Diego's. New Year's Eve early dinner my husband and I were welcomed with a friendly hostess and quickly seated. The waited was excellent, we had a hard time making a selection and Roberto guide his to a few popular choices that we ended up selecting. My husband had the seafood burrito and let me say it was well worth the $$ price. The size of the scallops, were remarkable. It WA slacked with shrimp, halibut, lobster. Diego's was highly recommended to us by a friend. I was so happy to finally get a chance to visit! The food is excellent, the margaritas are perfection!! Although the prices are very high. We ordered two margaritas and a cheese enchilada ala carte....$31.00. Pricey but delicious. Unfortunately the service was just terrible. Our waiter, Jorge, seemed annoyed that we sat in his section. His attitude throughout our meal was really odd and made us sorry we had chosen Diego's for a little bite to eat this afternoon. First time I've ever considered not leaving anybody in the service industry a tip. I will definitely go back for the food, drinks, and atmosphere, but will not sit in Jorge's section! read more

We had a table of six. We'd been golfing and were tired and rather loud, I'm afraid. The staff was fabulous, very patient and helpful with us as we tried to decide what great sounding dishes to have. We started off with the lobster cakes. Between those and the great chips and salsa, we probably didn't need dinner, but.... My husband and I split the seafood enchilada. It was HUGE and fantastic! Visited for lunch after a strenuous hike at Misery Ridge. We were hungry and looking to reward ourselves with a good lunch. We were not disappointed with Diego's. We both indulged in a Margherita which packed a nice punch. Started with a ceviche appetizer. The serving was hefty and it was delicious. Could have survived on this and the drink alone. Of course, we pressed on for more. Wifey had the Tacos de Pescado and I had the Arroz Con Pollo. I was very happy with mine. Couldn't finish but only because I didn't have time for a nap. Wife says the fish was a bit overdone but she still enjoyed the overall experience. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Would surely come back and explore the menu further. read more

We moved to Oregon from Houston, Texas where some of the best Mexican food in the world is served (trust me), but the food and especially the margaritas, were outstanding, even by our very discriminating standards. The salsa was zippy, excellently filled with cumin and cilantro. My "forest mushroom" quesadillas were primo with just the right amount of greasy, cheesy wonderfulness. Many times we have simply walked across the street to go to Brickhouse because Diego's would put our name down, then we would wait, and wait. Sooooooooo good! This place was really busy when we went, and rightly so. We had to wait awhile for a table, but that was our fault for not making reservations. They don't really have anywhere to wait because they've crammed tables into every possible space, but luckily there's lots of window shopping to do in the area. We had a veggie burrito and the seafood penne, both of which came in huge portions. It was way more than enough for multiple meals, but tasted so good that neither of us could put our forks down. My pasta came with generous portions of high quality seafood, not something you really expect to find in the desert. Anyway, we ate all of our food and were so stuffed but couldn't turn down the flan. I'm glad we did and it definitely hit the spot. If you're anywhere near Redmond make sure to give this place a try. read more

New restaurant in downtown Redmond ... Next to High Desert Gallery. We had plan on stopping in to one of our favorite galleries and got side tracked and had lunch instead. The restaurant had just opened in February 2009 but the owner, Pablo Pena, has years of experience at his sister restaurant ( Madaline's Grill 2414 S Highway 97 Redmond OR 541-548-9964 ). Although I haven't reviewed Madalines we always had great service and food there! Diego's serves only lunch and dinner -- We had a wonderful lunch.. great salad and club sandwich. Serving sizes were great as well as the service was wonderful and especially good since they are just open. We did not experience their full bar but it looks tempting. Decor and atmosphere is great. We need to do some framing so will be back to visit the gallery and we'll go for drinks and dinner. read more
