Stopwatches have become hard to find in sporting goods stores I found out recently. A few of the stores we had bought stopwatches from in the past were no longer carrying them, so I looked up online where might have them in-store and got directed to DICK's Sporting Goods. Today my mom and I came to the DICK's Sporting Goods at Northgate to see if we could find a few things. My mom bought a shirt and pants for my Grandad at a good price and I got a water-resistant stopwatch. The parking lot was packed, which was slightly surprising for a Thursday early afternoon in February. There were three cashiers working, floor workers, and a security guard inside the main entrance. I walked the store once to see if I could find the stopwatches and had no luck. Then, just as I was about to start a more thorough search, a worker came over and asked if she could help me find anything. I brought up the stopwatches, she looked them up on her work device and led me straight to them. There were two options, a regular stopwatch and a pro stopwatch that was water-resistant. I went with the water-resistant pro stopwatch because... well... this is Seattle and it can be rainy here. Pre-tax it was $19.99 and with sales tax it cost $22.04. Ah, the days when sales tax used to be less than 10%. All around enjoyable shopping experience. Workers, both on the store floor and at check-out, were friendly and helpful in their interactions.

I've been coming here for years, but this was my second visit in less than a month. A couple of…read moreweeks ago, I bought a pair of shoes along with custom insoles. They were definitely more expensive than what I could have found elsewhere, but I've always felt this place stands behind what they sell, so I didn't mind paying a little more. During that visit I also signed up for the VIP membership. For what it costs, the benefits seemed like a no-brainer, especially the 90-day return policy. After wearing the shoes for a while, though, I realized they just weren't the right fit for me. On top of that, the custom insoles had started squeaking every time I walked, which became impossible to ignore. I went back today expecting to return everything and maybe try something else. Instead, I met Yella. She never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. Before talking about a return, she wanted to understand what wasn't working. She tried a few adjustments, asked questions, and then said something I honestly don't hear very often anymore: "What do you want to do?" It wasn't just something she said because she had to. She genuinely wanted to help me find the best solution. From there, the whole experience went to another level. She had me take off my shoes and socks, put me on a treadmill, and recorded how I walked and jogged. Then we moved over to another station where different sensors measured my feet from every angle. Finally, she showed me a detailed report on the screen explaining how my feet move, where the pressure points are, and why the original shoes weren't working as well as they should. I learned more about my feet in 20 minutes than I have in my entire life. The funny part is that I walked in planning to return roughly $400 worth of shoes and insoles. Instead, I walked out happy--and with another pair of shoes. The pair Yella recommended, along with the fitting technology, felt right the moment I put them on. Good products are easy to find. People like Yella are much harder to find. She turned what I expected to be a return into one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a long time. That's exactly why I'll keep coming back.

Very awkward experience for a specialty running store, didn't feel like I should have to be the one to approach the staff who aren't busy to ask if they can assist. They notify you that they no longer work on leather items and offer to recycle your garment or send it back to you at your expense. No where on their website or Instagram do they mention that they no longer work on leather. I spoke with Matt the "manager" regarding this and he agreed that the website needs to be updated and that he would get my jacket returned today. Two hours later I get a notification from AmEx that I have been billed by Rainy Pass Repair for a shipping charge. When I spoke with Matt after seeing the charge he told me "that's the way we do business." He then said I could write the owner an email to the general email address and he would forward it. I suppose I should believe him but that might be difficult considering the level of service they appear to provide. It would be like taking your Buick back to the shop that repaired it last month only to be told, "We don't work on Buicks here anymore" even though the sign outside said "We work on Buicks." Beware or don't go there.

They quoted $75 during drop-off (where tailor came out to review and verbally quote to front desk worker), then made me pay $121 for pickup. I understand miscommunication happens but this felt like a racket. In short and only based on my one experience: Quality work, outrageous pricing, and unacceptable business dealings. Shame on me for not making them provide me with written quote at drop off and also accepting their upcharge. I should have told them to keep the jacket but that's not my style. I believe in paying for quality work (which they have) but will not be a return customer due to how they conduct business.
