I recently had such a positive experience at Dick's Sporting Goods in Gresham. I went in to pick up a new pair of shoes for my son and was immediately welcomed by friendly staff at the entrance. That first impression really set the tone for the rest of our visit. When we made our way to the shoe department, the associates there were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to help. They answered our questions, helped us find the right size, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. It's refreshing to shop somewhere that values customer service and actually takes the time to acknowledge you. Of course, I couldn't leave without finding something for myself! I ended up grabbing a pair of Nike slides, and they've turned out to be one of my favorite purchases lately. They're unbelievably comfortable -- basically like wearing slippers -- and I find myself reaching for them every single day. Overall, it was an easy, enjoyable shopping trip, and I'll definitely be heading back to Dick's the next time we're in the market for shoes. read more

This Dick's will be included in the cutbacks soon. We stopped by for a simple Oregon Ducks "O" baseball cap. We entered the empty store and asked a staff member where the Ducks gear is. He motioned over to a part of the store with his hand, and that was it. They only had a yellow baseball cap with an Oregon ice cream cone on the front. What the heck is that? When exiting, we expressed our surprise that they did not have more gear for a popular university from their state. The employee did not care. Stressful shopping experience. Came here 30 mins prior to close with my s/o to by some athleisure wear. (We came to buy a pair of sweatpants.) Employee hesitated at letting my gf try on two pairs of sweatpants (15 mins to close). Fitting room was basically a wind tunnel with a loud fan and blank walls. Very dystopian. We felt rushed and uncomfortable, and left empty handed. First time in a Dick's in a few years. Disappointed and not sure I'll come back. :/ read more

This store is absolutely atrocious! There's a call button near the dressing room to supposedly get assistance, but I had to press it over and over before anyone bothered to show up. All I wanted was to ask if they had another size in the back--apparently, that's too much to ask for here. To top it off, they refused to let me wear the clothes I was clearly intending to buy before payment. I specifically explained that I had a match and just needed to wear the outfit, pay, and leave quickly. But no, instead, I had to waste time taking off the clothes I planned to buy, putting my own back on, going through the payment process, then returning to the dressing room to change again into what I actually came in for. Completely ridiculous and inefficient! When I asked to speak to the manager, she brushed me off with some nonsense about "store policy" supposedly to prevent theft. Really? There are cameras everywhere, so anyone intending to steal wouldn't be waiting for tags to be removed--they'd just do it! These so-called "business rules" are not laws; they're arbitrary, outdated nonsense that need to be challenged and scrapped. Inefficient, discriminatory policies like these need to go, and the staff pushing them need to be held accountable--or better yet, fired. read more

Every time I visit to shop, there are criminals stealing. Last time, there were cop cars outside and they caught them. The staff is consumed with theft. But they do try to help you find what you need. So be understanding. The liberals have created a communist revolution and they are helping the drug addicts steal and get away with it. Soon, there will be no more stores at all in Multnomah county. I am glad that Dick's is still there, for now. Prices are very high, but so is the quality of what they sell. Lucky to be able to see products live instead of buying over the internet. I would not want to buy baseball gloves, bats, clothes and shoes without trying them out first. Outstanding, impressively responsive in-store customer service marred by an incompetent, unreliable outside company in charge of delivery and assembly. The good. As we searched the greater Portland area for a treadmill we found that the Gresham DICK's store was by far the most responsive. The managers and staff who took our calls explained the lack of machines due to demand from the pandemic and then went a step further to tell us how and when we might contact them about new deliveries. They gave us sound advice and answered our calls quickly and politely. When a machine arrived in the store they held it for us. Hats off to Amanda, Chris, Kelly, Kyle, and Ben for their absolutely first-rate customer service. Five stars here all the way. The bad. Unfortunately DICK's relies on a second party, Select Express and Logistics, which operates out of New York, for delivery and assembly. Select Express cancelled the first delivery date we set up -- the driver called us late the night before to say he was scheduled to work in Seattle. Select Express then cancelled the second delivery date, saying one of their trucks had been in an accident. Phone message, with the self-described supervisor assuring us she'd "follow up." No follow up, combined with a text message that the unit had been picked up from the Gresham store. Was it damaged in the accident? Calling Select Express put us in a long line for an operator, who knew nothing about our case and put us in another long line for another operator, and so on. No one knew anything. We called the Gresham store and were told the machine was still there. Another text set up a third delivery date and -- you guessed it -- Select Express again left a phone message, this time saying one of their drivers called in sick. Again the supervisor making the call said she'd follow up. Again, no follow up. We turned back to the Gresham store for help. Finally a local company, Reliable Assembly Delivery, contacted us and delivered and assembled the machine, promptly and capably. Remaining true to form, three days after the treadmill was delivered and assembled we got a phone call (a recording) from Select Express saying that the machine would be delivered tomorrow and to press 1 for further details. (Pressing 1 cut off the call.) Five stars for the Gresham managers and staff. Zero stars for Select Express and Logistics. DICK's deserves better than to work with such an unreliable company. read more

Seriously disappointed... went into Dicks in Gresham Oregon to buy our daughter a softball glove. We found an entire aisle , an end cap, and a wall display of baseball gloves. Would you like to guess how many softball gloves they had? Maybe 1/4 of an aisle... Looks like the apology to the 12 year old girl in 2014 was all for not.... shame on you! read more

The person that helped me was nice and when the extra mile. He did it without me asking. In addition, and they are open until 9:30. Was at your store yesterday and my experience was the worst. No merchandise and was not offered to help make my experience better. I filled out the lengthy questionnaire and was contacted by your General Manager which was quick. At the store the customer service was poor. I was given all kinds of excuses which we're not satisfying. While in the store they should have used higher customer service skills. There are many things they could have done to make a bad situation better. We found all the merchandise we needed at another source. read more

Dicks's took over when th G.I Joes sporting good stores closed. It is basically the same store as the originally G.I Joes. The store is well maintained and very clean. The workers are friendly enough. The prices are moderate to expensive though for all of the items. They do have a good selection of sports equipment and apparel. But again it is rather on the expensive side. I come here when I can't find what I am looking for elsewhere. I would recommend coming here as a last resort, you can find better deals elsewhere. There is a tall women with dark hair and maybe in her 50s that works there and she hovered around me... as I tried on coats that all had security tags on them. On her radio she called a security code... then a secret shopper came over to watch. Really discouraged me from purchasing. I guess I will just buy another item online. Our conversation was very weird she asked me what brings me in... clearly shopping for a coat. The winter season is approaching. I told her I had a coupon code that was emailed to me from Dicks. Hidden inexpensive sale going on here! Seriously, my husband and I were needing some hiking items such as a backpack, some high energy foodstuffs, hiking paraphernalia in general. They have so much to choose from and the brands are Nike, Reebok, etc. Also, we wanted to get some gear for being on the water like a life jacket. No problem. They had it and the prices were between 20-80 dollars. Lots of room for everyone. Best of all, we headed to the check out stand and there was a sale that we were not aware of and got items for half of what we were counting on. OK so forward on, I had a couple of things I needed to return, no problem at all. Immediately just removed. I almost felt guilty it was so quick but those particular items just did not fit. I called just to ask a simple question, the first man was nice and transferred me to that department and I was on hold for a good 10 minutes. I was just asking if they carried Patagonia fishing waders. Then the 2nd man answered and had very poor customer service, was rude and practically hung up on me. Dick Nixon was my Commander and Chief so "Dick" is a pejorative on so many levels that I can't imagine how out of touch a bunch of suits were - all puffing big cigars and affirmatively nodding - when they agreed to name the place "Dick's". It's a big box store, full of imported stuff. Now when I say imported, I'm not talking about hand crafted German carabiners, or Italian designed mountain wear. Nope - I'm talking China. But if being stuffed with Chinese manufacture were grounds for a diminished review, then most stores in America would get one star. If your looking to hike into the wilderness, set up a base camp, hunt and fish of food, and maybe kayak home, then Dick's has all the stuff you might need. I've never paid full price at Dick's. When I get to the check out, the scanner arrives at a price substantially lower than the sticker. When I ask about it, they offer some lame excuse and insist I pay the lower amount. High end professional gear you won't find, but for the weekender or occasional Lewis Meriwether, Dick's is Okay. read more

We went here for two specific outdoor related apparel items: gaiters for snowshoeing and suspenders. They has neither though I did pick up some gloves! The store was nice and clean and the staff helpful but I was disappointed in their lack of winter gear...considering it was winter. read more

They close at 9:30 and had their doors wide open. We got there with a couple minutes before 9:30 and it wouldn't have been a big deal, but the manager rushed over to tell us that we only have a minute to shop. The store is clean and well lite and very pretty for a sporting goods store, but it really is more of a clothing store then a anything else. Most of the store is dedicated to clothing that you would sport in, and then sometimes the selection is not that good. We looked at the competition style swimsuits, winter being the season for swim team, and there was a pathetic number on the racks with only a few sizes available. Now if I was a hunter, there was a huge selection of camo gear to wear, but it was expensive. We needed backpacking gear, getting ready for the spring, and the selection was limited and expensive. I have found that you can walk around the store and never even see an employee until you check out. And if you do see someone, they appear to not be very interest in assisting you in any way. This is crazy when you may be the only customer in the store. So Joes was in the retail spot before Dicks, and they didn't make it, I not sure Dick's will survive either. read more

The store is clean and new but they are so over priced and the selection in some departments is lacking. I went here looking for water aerobic gear over the weekend and I asked the kid at the door where I could find it. He pointed to the corner and said, we barely have anything like that but what we do have it back there. They had one set of weights on the shelf and they were on clearance, so good for me, but I wondered if they were going to discontinue carrying water weights or bring in a different brand? We were getting ping pong supplies about a month ago and they did have a big selection of paddles to pick from. Like other reviewers, I do wish GI Joes was still there. read more

This store was well stocked and the customer service was great. We were at another Dicks who didn't have the bike I wanted and this dicks did, when I arrived the bike was already to go. The sales associate even swapped out the seat and the pegs for me. She ensured that the bike was good to go before I left the store. They even gave me a military discount when other stores wouldn't. The manager said it was the least he could do for our military. Will be back again. read more

My wife and I recently purchased this machine from Dick's Sporting Goods in Gresham, OR. We were assisted by one of their team members named Bill, who happened to work in the Cycling department. We received outstanding customer service by Bill, and ended up purchasing this product online. The product was delivered by a 3rd-Party delivery service to my place of employment, unceremoniously stuffed into the back of my vehicle, and they got out of there quick as can be! Upon arriving home, my wife and I had to unload the machine piece by piece as the box was so damaged we couldn't get it out as a whole. We were missing pieces, parts were broken, and even the console was damaged. We went back into Dick's in Gresham to inform them of the status of our delivery, and to price match as the machine went on sale. Jeff, one of the Head Coaches there, was extremely empathetic of our plight and did everything he could do to make it right! Again, tons of praise for that team. This morning I spoke with Sam from Sole, in the service and warranty department, about damaged parts and products. He has already ordered the parts and console and assured me I would receive them within a few days. As we have yet to set-up the machine, I cannot comment on it, but the service we received from Dick's and from Sole has been outstanding! read more

Certainly not an adequate substitute for the Joe's sporting good chain that use to occupy the space, but there's not much else around. The golfing and bike area's are improvements with a large selection of reasonably priced quality bikes. Some great sales to be had with the bikes and the golfing area is fairly impressive as well though the prices are high. Good selection of kayaks and these too can be had at good prices now and then but beyond that the store is limited and pricey. The firearms section is well stocked with rifles but again, prices begin to get out of hand and you can find much better values elsewhere. Compared to the old Joes, camping and hiking is very sparse and well over-priced, and there's overpriced ski wear that transforms to team sports at the end of winter but I don't recall seeing ski's being sold. Most of the store is dedicated to clothing and shoes and the prices are high with a good variety of brands but it all looks the same. Basically workout and running gear, hoodies, and T-shirts but not much else outside of some outdoor work and hunting clothing in another section of the store. Dicks is a good place to go if you're looking for a bike and maybe some golf equipment but beyond that, I'd take a pass on Dicks unless you feel like you have a hole burning in your pocket and really want to spend more than you have to (and you'd think the company could come up with a better name maybe?) Update 1/11/13 - Downgrading this place to 1 star and they won't have my business again after pandering to the gunphobes and suspending sales of popular rifles with cosmetic features that scare the uninformed. They still carry all kinds of rifles, as long as they don't look like scary military versions regardless of mag capacity. Purchased a metal detector yesterday using cash, price was 99.95. Tried using it this morning and it did not meet expectations so went to return it today and you would think it would be a straight forward return. During the return the employee (i'm assuming) flat out lied to me (customer) saying that she didn't have that much cash to do a cash return, instead had to get return on my card. Nowhere on the receipt does it say no cash refund return. This has caused an inconvience and now i have to wait for it to post to my account. Will choose elsewhere to shop in the future because i feel lied to to. What store doesn't have 100.00 in till? read more

Much different than the Washington Square location. Very small selection of pro and college team gear, but there is also a large selection of hunting, fishing, and workwear/winterwear. And there's still a good selection of running gear, basketball stuff, etc. I wish GI Joe's was still here, though... read more

This place is dishonest.I came in to buy a shotgun because it was on sale and I could save $50.00.However I could not buy it that day because my drivers license had expired.I was told by an employee that when I got my drivers license renewed,which happened in 6 days,they would honor the sale price.I came in in 6 days and another employee said they would not honor the sale price.I will never shop at that store ever again. read more

Once again walked out without making a purchase. There seems to be no customer service in the hunting and fishing department. I've been in there several times and experienced the same problem. I miss G.I. Joes. I will start taking all my business to Fishermans Marine Supply. Dicks seems to be a clothing store that wants to be a sporting goods store. Not! My husband shops at dicks for a huge majority of his fishing and other sporting goods. He understands that for most people this is just a job, but to the people that shop the store they are looking for expertise. He did not get that. He asked for his fishing pole to get lined ( should have been a $20 transaction) was charged $50 and was done wrong, when confronted the counter clerk he was treated with poor customer service, the manager was unprofessional and and walked away from him without helping him. when he told the cashier he was having a "shitty day" she said "that's great" he then said I'm not shopping here anymore and the cashier said have a great day! Ever since Dicks took over all the GI Joes locations, they have gone downhill. This store is in an area that people fish for trout, salmon/steelhead, sturgeon. There is some bass and walleye fishing, but in the Portland area, not so much. Why is it that Dicks has very little trout gear or salmon/steelhead gear? You can buy tons of bass stuff, but every time I go in there they have less and less stuff Im looking for that they used to carry. I have asked for them to carry a few items and was told that they couldn't because only corporate can make those decisions. The last straw for me was when I took a couple of spools to have line put on them for trout fishing and was told they no longer carry any bulk line that is under 20lbs strength. Flabbergasted is what I was. You basically don't give a shit about the people who fish for the dominant species in the area your store is located. You might as well just stop selling fishing supplies at all. In my last four trips to your store and the one on 82nd I could not find 1 of the ten items I was looking for. We called the store about specific Diamondback bikes we wished to try and probably purchase. They lied about having the bikes, or didn't bother to look, so we drove almost 200 miles to the PDX for nothing! Then we called a second Dick's nearby, and went through the same painful process.
