They didn't have the firearm I was looking for so I asked the guy if it was something they could order. He says "yeah, and shipping here would probably be the best." He was listing a firearm on gunbroker so I figured he'd do that and then I'd be able to order what I was looking for. So like 10 minutes roll by and dude is still screwing around on his phone and I think "did this guy mean that I should order it from someplace and have it shipped to them so I'd have to pay them to do the transfer???". The store was empty so he could have passed me over to one of the other workers in the shop if he was going to take while. Now granted isn't my go to spot and their prices are usually just the hair above the other places locally... That said anyone of these stores existing in Portland is a blessing because we all know how mixed up Portland is, and where they put their priorities... So it's nice to be able to have something for a hobby that I've enjoyed to the kid and people to be able to make a living in that. I've only had 4 interactions with them, but on each of these visits I encountered friendly and pleasant staff (even the lady with the harsh sense of humor), who showed me patience once they understood I'm a bit of a neophyte in this hobby. On my most recent visit, I needed help with the final few wrench twists on a new build since I don't own the right equipment, and they offered to do so gratis, thus completing what I started by buying an lower receiver from them about 2 months ago. Ultimately, my decision to continue to use them as my go-to's for when I need something quick (or another pair of eyes to look at a situation) probably comes down to convenience of location, but that doesn't change the fact that I genuinely like the store and the interactions I've had with the people inside it.. They have a sense of humor (such as the "range candy" vending machines at the front) and they're as personable as I can imagine gun enthusiasts can be. As others have mentioned here, the prices are a little steep, but I'm willing to put up with that if it means convenience. All in all, not a bad place to visit. read more

In the last 2 years this place as expanded and become pretty awesome. Easily the #1 for Guns and Training in Gresham if not the county. Most of the staff is prior military and all are extremely knowledgeable. Selection of gear, firearms, ammo and spare parts is pretty much unparalleled as far as I've seen. Maybe 1 or 2 other stores in Oregon can compare. I've also used their gunsmithing services and they're working on expanding those services to include custom holsters and cerakoting. Wow. I will tell you straight up, if you're looking for an honorable place to go to purchase or trade/sell a fire arm, don't go anywhere else but AFT. I personally worked with Ron, what a great guy, served as a policeman for many years, Tony, the shop owner is a great guy as well. But I went in because I wanted to trade a firearm for something more suitable for my needs, and wow, they helped me so much with educating me on what to look for and their personal opinions from years of experience, and on top of all that, they even provide fire arms training classes and help get you your Conceal Carry permit. Been to many shops over the years and have never been treated with so much respect by Ron, and he made sure I got exactly what I needed, even worked with me on price, got an AMAZING deal on a very high quality firearm. Thank you AFT and most of all, Thank you Ron for your outstanding help and thank you for your 28 years of service for our Gresham Police Department. Once again, I went in knowing I would probably walk out with something....this place treats you like a human being, unlike other shops in the area that only help you if they know you or your some kind of law enforcement. Who let me pull out about 16 different handguns to feel all sorts of differences and what to look for when buying handguns for specific purposes. They WILL work around your price range, too. I was so impressed with the service and info that I got, I ended up buying accessories as well as ammo, which surprisingly is cheaper then Bi-Mart. If I need anything gun related, they will have it or get it over nighted for you. They also do some smithing as well, any upgrades you're nervous about doing on your own? They'll do it super super cheap. Also a big thing to note is they are also a training center, so if you want your CCW, sign up for their class, there's none like the ones they hold in the area. And very well priced. They also take photos and get you stamped so you can run an Short Barrel Rifle or a suppressor. Very informative and knowledgeable, and if you can't find it, they will get it. I dropped off a 1911 almost 2 months ago that I purchased from this establishment. I was going to upgrade the safeties and put a new hammer in and was told that it would be no problem. Was quoted a reasonable price and was excited to have the work done. I've spent thousands of dollars at this place, so I had no reservations when it came to asking them to perform some more work. Initially the process was very bumpy. Several weeks in a row I was told that the part was still needing to be ordered so somebody was dropping the ball there. After I was told, the part was finally ordered and it would be picked up within a couple days. I brought my pistol in to get it serviced, and was told it would be a week or so before I would get it back. Over a month of no communication and no phone calls back from the owner, and I still didn't know what was going on. I was being told that parts were still needing to be ordered, even though I was led to believe that had already taken place. Once I was assured, they were finally ordered and in hand, they told me that they would start getting the parts taken care of and put on. it must've passed through at least three gunsmiths hands because every time I would call after that it seem like they were waiting on someone else to work on it. I finally spoke to the owner a few days ago to touch base and make sure that everything was coming along smoothly and he didn't even remember all the stuff I was trying to get done. This is well after a month of him having it and saying he's getting these parts ordered and getting it all lined out. Well yesterday I got the phone call that none of the parts will fit actually and instead of it being around $150 to do the work it's going to be closer to $1100. Obviously I didn't go that route as I only paid 700 for the pistol, so I went to pick it up. Upon talking to him, he never apologized for the terrible communication, the total let down that was him assuring me parts would go in seamlessly, and it would be done timely (which never even happened), I get a hold of my pistol and it has scratches and nicks all around the area they were working. I let him know that I'm disappointed and frustrated, and I point out how the pistol is beat up and he proceeds to tell me that he will not hear another word of it. He tells me how there's no way he or the other two gunsmith could've possibly damaged my pistol anyway, and that he's not going to hear any more of this conversation. There was no apology, there was no bedside manner. Nothing but a grumpy guy behind the counter, who is clearly embarrassed he didn't have the ability he said he did. On a positive note, he did tell me that I could trade it in and purchase a new pistol LMAO. Save your money and find a better shop. If you MUST rely on these guys get plenty of pics of your guns before you bring them in. read more

Not sure how you could give Tony's store anything but 5 stars. I have been to Advanced many times, sometimes for info/advice others for purchases, each have been filled with a wealth of knowledge and advice on how to spend hard earned money without being wasteful (don't buy junk you don't need). The prices are spot on what you will find around town and even lower (from what I have found) at gun shows. Tony's not lookin to make all his money off your one purchase and he's very upfront, a standup guy in a shop is what I would say. Giving solid advice. The biggest thing I've have found great with this shop is that if I don't know about a product and ask a question I get a straight answer, or info why it may or may not be as good as the product next to it. I don't feel that I'm being B.S'd to get another sale, which I appreciate. I enjoy the crowd/following that Tony has, it is definitely a family feel, the shop dog is great, the store is not intimidating and if you go there asking solid questions I think you'll leave happy with whatever you do or don't buy. read more
