This is a pretty cool spot to buy local gear in a very central location. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. There is no dedicated parking, so finding a spot to park can be challenging at times. There are also a lot of unhoused people in the adjacent neighborhood. There is a lot of stuff here! It's actually a little overwhelming to try to navigate the store because there are literally racks and shelves of stuff everywhere. So Probably not the best place if you get claustrophobic easily. My favorite part about this place is definitely the bargain basement. You can sell your stuff, find good deals, and even rent ski and snowboard equipment! This place is basically a local REI with the chance to sell used equipment and score a good deal in in their bargain area. Check it out if you have a chance. read more

I thought the sale would be huge, with discounts up to 75% on everything. However, it turned out that most of all the items were only 20% off, with a few at 30%. I didn't see any items 75% discounts. Some people were confused about the pricing; they mentioned a red dot on the Snow Peak items, but we were told not to look for a red spot and to instead check for a green marker on the price tags. It felt like a big letdown because I expected a significant sale, but there really wasn't anything that impressive. I'm super disappointed and feel like everyone else is thinking, "Oh, you thought it was a big sale? Pfft!" Just to clarify: - Green means 20% off. - Red means 75% off. read more

I've always liked the basement for its great prices on used gear, but I had a frustrating experience recently. I brought in my snowboard to the repair shop to have a small rock removed, and despite specifically asking not to have the board ground, they ended up grinding it so much that it looked like I'd ridden it on asphalt when I went back after a week to pick it up. It was a new board, and the damage was significant. While they did try to make it right by buffing and waxing, it still stings that they ruined the board in the first place. While I'm disappointed by this experience, I'll still continue to shop there for used gear. read more

If, like me, you need snow gear but aren't going to the slopes every weekend of winter, this is your place to shop. You have to have patience for a bit more chaos than your Nordstrom Rack or Ross Dress for Less, however. There are no neat rows, only a rabbit warren of windy paths. If you manage to thrash your way through the puffers and baclavas, you'll find incredible deals though. My son was coming to town to ski and I bought us each ski bibs for a mere 30 bucks each. In the chaos, however, I grabbed a women's XL rather than a men's for myself, which would not fit when I got home. No matter though, the Gen Z staff was super helpful and chill with the return. read more

They sold us a SUP new in box, got home it was not the right SUP, instead it was a much cheaper mode. In addition, the fin screw, the patch kit and instructions were missing and when we called they refused to do ANYTHING. No credit for the SUP cost difference, no offer to replace the parts. I had to go there and complain for 30 minutes just to get the fin screw and patch kit. But NO credit for being sold the wrong product. HMM. BEWARE, they don't care. If you buy anything, make sure to open it and check it. If it inflates, make them inflate it and check it. Do this for EVERYTHING. If you get home and it leaks they will NOT do the right thing. DO NOT TRUST them, the employees are all checked out and the will not do anything to make it right even if the mistake is obvious and they admit it. Sad and good riddance since you are being dishonest as you go out of business. read more

Being way more than fair here, so give a read. Bought all new equipment to get back into skiing. Skis, poles, bindings, boots, gloves, goggles etc. First day on the mountain, had a very minor fall. The pants blew out in the crotch. Tried to return them, the guy at the front was trying to tell me I'd have to go to the manufacturer. Waiting 20 minutes for a manager, no on came. Granted the manager did call me and make it right. But it did mean an emergency trip into Portland at 4pm; I was leaving to bend the next day. Get to bend. First run, I realize my boot needed adjustment. Tried to pull my goggles up so I could fix my boot. The mount for the elastic snapped off the goggles. Their second ever day on the mountain. So listen. I love my skis. I loved the boot fitting experience. But I'm literally batting 1,000 on accessory gear. So now I've got the wrong pants and will need to repurchase next year. I've also got a generic pair of smith goggles from a ski shop. Overall I don't think I'll continue forward with Next Adventure. Everyone was nice. But it's been such a headache. Two stars because the staff is mostly friendly and nice. 1 star for the initial recovery. Just can't feel confident with the accessories I picked up. read more

Looking for outdoor gear? Here's my recommendation: go to the basement at Next Adventure. While a certain outdoor gear mega corporation has their "garage sale" every so often, Next Adventure has their basement sale constantly. Also unlike that mega corporation, the staff here is actually knowledgeable and helpful. On my last visit, a staff member came over and helped me look through all the used sleeping bags to help determine which one is best for me (material, temperature, size, etc). The one we settled on was marked $49 which was an okay deal but not exciting... then she goes "oh that should be $15, let me give you a new price tag for it." Mind blown! My friend who recommended the basement to me got a fancy down jacket that costs $400 new for $30 here. And while some things in the basement are a little worse for wear, most of them don't have major imperfections either - no tears, rips, holes, stains, smells, or other defects that might lead to the low costs. RUDE, ARROGRANT, AND RACIST, are just some of the words that come to mind with the lead (apparently named Lee) that worked today on 06/23/25 spoke to me after I came to pick up a boat. I worked with Paul yesterday 06/22/2025 and he was incredible. We worked on a deal for a new boat. And told me to come by today to pick it up after it came from the warehouse. So I arrived after an hour and a half long drive and was greeted by this lead named Lee who laughed at me, told me that the deal Paul got me would never fly and that he didn't care that I drove an hour and half and said I'm not going to help you. I came to make a purchase for myself and was going to surprise Paul with buying 3 more for my family. But this Lee guy or whatever his name is ruined that. I'm not sure how a company could let someone like him be their face of their company. But he looked super stressed, overwhelmed and should go back to being the general help. I love their bargain basement. I don't love it when men mansplain gear to me. I went in to exchange an entry level sleeping pad I purchased the other day. I explained to the associate at the front that I wanted something that would fit nicely inside my 60L backpack instead of having to strap it to the outside of my pack. The associate at the front stated to me, in a tone that implied he thought I was dumb and inexperienced, that most people just tie their sleeping pads to their packs. For the kind of trips I'm preparing for (multi day, potentially in alpine fall climates, 10-12 miles/day, 2000-4000 feet/day), upgrading my gear is a no brainer. He could have asked a single question instead of assuming that a femme presenting person didn't know what they were doing. Anyway, got myself a sweet deal on ultralight sleeping pad with an R value of 4.4 (!!!!!!) in the basement that will certainly suit my needs better than the pad I returned, no thanks to the casual misogyny of their staff. read more

During a visit, I had the privilege of receiving assistance from a single staff member, and their level of service was exceptional. However, there was one aspect of my interaction that proved quite challenging for me, and it had a noticeable impact on my physical well-being. The helpful staff member who assisted me had a persistent and strong body odor that, unfortunately, made me feel quite nauseated. This feeling persisted throughout my entire interaction with them. I am aware that there may be unseen medical conditions or personal circumstances that could be contributing to this situation. My intention is not to single out or criticize this staff member in any way. Their helpfulness was genuinely appreciated. we've been to next adventure several times over the yrs for gloves, rain gear, etc and have always been happy...yesterday we needed a snow jacket and some gloves.........i found a roxy -chloe kim line-olympic snowboarder- called a lofty cloud parka -women's -that was dark forest green and it fitted fine, and was comfortable....''e'' helped us with the color and seeing if it was in black, which it wasn't .....they were great and helpful and helped us narrow down what i needed.....next, my partner needed some heavy gloves for cycling, and she found a great pair.....all the staff was friendly...i saved one hundred bucks on my coat, as it was a close-out item....thx so much, we love coming here...... read more

I really don't know what to make of this place. Every time I visit, I arrive with high hopes and a shopping list and typically leave empty handed. It is this weird combination of them having too much of things I don't want (disc golf?!?) and yet not enough of what I am looking for in an outdoor store. They call themselves 'Portland's Alternative Outdoor Store' and I guess I'm a traditional gal when it comes to buying gear. During one of my visits around the holidays, the store was running a promotion so if you bought a pair of socks, they would donate a pair to charity. I liked the community spirit and was amused that most of the staff dressed up. I just felt sorry for the guy that must have drawn the short straw and looked like a sad reindeer. On the main and upper floors they carry relatively high end outdoor gear (name brands at full retail prices) and then you descend into the bargain basement for some real deals if you are lucky and patient. Most of these items are used or out-of-stock, so it isn't as wonderful as I'd hoped. I really wish I liked this place more, but I've been about once a month for the last six months and usually don't walk out the door with much. I'm a huge fan of their water sports center, which is now located a few blocks away, but the main store has yet to impress. read more

Great customer service! Came here on an extremely busy Sunday 1/5/19, around 3pm. It was packed! Totally looked like there was a major sale but there wasn't unfortunately. Prices are not cheap here but I found exactly what I was looking for with the help of an employee. Wish I had gotten his name, young blonde kid around 5'8 working in the women's snow apparel area. Was very knowledgeable about winter sports and which gear was for what sport. This is more a one stop shop with everything you need for your winter adventure, boards or skis, gaitors, pants and jackets galore however you will pay full retail for the convince of only going to one store. There were 18 people in line and people continued to get in line behind me as I waited so they must be doing something right. Would I come back? Maybe.
