From my experience I usually go to Portland Running Co, but wanted a true gait analysis, which was different because the shoes I was recommended over there were quite different from the shoes I was recommended at Fleet Feet. To be honest, a lot of the shoes they recommended at Fleet Feet personally I didn't like. Didn't like the look or the feel of. But it also could have been because the shoes I had wearing, were no longer serving their purpose. At the end of it, I did end up liking one shoe, but it was the color way that threw me off. I left and sat in my car, thought about oh I can get this online by tomorrow for $10 more, but I thought about how much the salesman(Michael) helped me and didn't make me feel obligated to buy anything, which I really loved. Which was the reason I came back inside the store to purchase the shoes . 10/10 would recommend. Prior to coming, i wanted an idea of what to expect, I saw people getting inserts recommended an Michael emphasized just try it, if its not comfortable we will move on from them. Nicest crew to work with! I've been a few times but this morning was the first time I'd brought shoes from them. I really enjoyed getting a foot scan to tell me how my feet react to the surface when I move. From there, I got shoes tailored to previous shoes I've had and what I did / didn't like about them. Great service. They helped me find a few pairs of shoes that will help me with my less tha perfect feet. They do have a machine that takes prints of your feet and the way you walk and that was very helpful, although after going home and getting the email with the results. The guy that helped me was so great. They really do a lot to try and give you a good experience. He brought out about 3 pairs that were stabilty based shoes for me to try on and I was able to find the best ones for my specific reasons that were cushioned but not so high on foam that I couldn't be stable while weight training and I can fit them into the rowing straps as well. Overall I am pretty happy with the shoes and the pain in my hips and the back of hamstrings that I used to get after working out is gone. read more

This place might be fine if you have average feet, but if you have any sort of musculoskeletal variance, stay away. I walked in and a friendly salesperson asked if I needed help. I explained my musculoskeletal issue and they proceeded to say with authority that it's no big deal and they just handle it in a certain way. I know both from doctors and lifelong personal experience that the recommended action would 100% lead to injury. It's fine that they didn't know what the right solution was (I wouldn't expect a young salesperson to have that kind of experience), but instead of asking questions, they just barreled ahead with a ridiculous solution. On top of that, Brooks has a program through dealers for this specific issue, and he had no idea of it. I don't expect a young salesperson to know everything, but I do expect them to be clear when they are out of their comfort zone and offer an opportunity to see if together we could come to a solution. The low rating is for saying that it would all be fine with a truly dangerous suggested solution instead of making an offer to see if we could together figure out what would work for me. read more

I go for about a two mile walk everyday, and for about two years now I've been trying to find a pair of walking shoes that works for me. I read article after article, and ordered pair after pair, always sending them back. I made do with a pair that was just okay, but felt the impacts in my arch, ankle, and knee. Finally I admitted to myself that I needed professional shoe finding help. After looking around some at reviews for local running shoe shops, I ended up at Fleet Feet. The ambiance: Fleet Feet is a small/medium store, with a small/medium selection of sneakers, as well as running clothes and gear. I didn't look closely, but I didn't see any plus sizes available in the items I glanced at. I was worried, given that I have a foot that seems to border on wide, that they wouldn't have many shoe options for me, but that turned out not to be the case at all! The process: The woman that helped me was very nice. She offered both a foot assessment and a gait assessment, which I did (they're free, and they aren't used to sell a product or insole). It gave me useful information I hadn't had before that explained why the shoes I'd chosen previously hadn't worked for me. She went and grabbed me four pairs, and I started trying them on. Previously I'd found an insole online that helped with the not-so-great sneakers I'd been using. They actually carried the same brand of insoles that I use in-store, so I was able to try on each pair of sneakers both with and without the added insole. On the third pair I struck gold, they were perfect. Cost: The total for my sneakers, insoles, and a pair of running socks came to over $250. It was more than I would have spent buying the items online, but I was okay with that knowing I had the perfect shoe in the right size in hand, and a lot more information than I'd started with previously, also, IMPORTANT INFO - they have a great return policy, 60 days regardless of how much the shoes have been used. No online site would ever have that as an option, and considering what an investment sneakers are, I love knowing that if I get 20 miles in and realize they aren't working for me, I can take them back. Final Notes: I'll probably try to stick with ordering the same brand/style online in the future to avoid the additional cost of going to a running store, but given how often sneaker companies change the fit of their styles, if I need to go to a running store again, it will definitely be back to Fleet Feet. read more

Every now and than, one goes to a business that SO hugely exceeds expectations and provides such impeccable service that one wishes that Yelp had a system of recognizing such businesses. Perhaps a "Gold Star" or "Six-star" business? Since Yelp offers no such official accolade system, I can only gush about them in my reviews. Let me start out by saying that in my 50 years on this planet, I've never really exercised. My life-threatening exercise-induced asthma attacks for most of my younger life, and my occupation as a software engineer have never really allowed me to do much, and pretty well made me a couch potato. I wanted to change that, so I started walking (very briskly, a minimum of 3 1/2 miles a day, a minimum of 5 days a week). After several weeks of my legs being in agonizing pain and trying to figure out how to stop my feet from so severely blistering, and me wondering how anybody could POSSIBLY maintain this, let alone jog or run, my internet searches led me to look into getting a proper assessment and fitted for a proper pair of running shoes. Based on Fleet Feet's technology of 3D scans of one's feet, and their analysis of one's walk (computer analysis of one's walking on a pressure plate), off I went. I was immediately surprised by being greeted by an employee, being asked what they could do to help me, and their actively and attentively listening. The employee also asked me lots of questions to get an idea of my situation, my needs, my goals, my difficulties, etc. and explained that getting the scan and analysis of my walking gait would enable them to get me on the right track (pun probably intended). The scan was pretty amazing, and showed that I have significantly larger proportions (instep height, etc.) than average. The pressure plate analysis showed that I had a pretty neutral gait (no pronation or whatever the opposite of that is). Based on the analysis, the amazingly helpful employee selected two sets of insoles, a brand-new pair of socks ("try on socks" as my awesome friend who accompanied me explained), and three different pairs of shoes, all a full size larger than what I'd worn since high school. The employee explained that one's feet swell when one walks, and this is why one must get a larger pair than what one measures, and that this is surely what was causing the blisters. The employee had me stand on the insoles on the floor to see how they felt before putting them into any of the three pairs of shoes she selected that would be a good match for my relatively unusual proportions. I tried every combination of insole and shoe, but the best of the bunch was what the employee had me start with. Regarding the try-on socks, the employee explained that if I liked them, I could buy them for 50% off, but that there was absolutely no obligation for me to buy them. I didn't care for how short they were, and she offered for me to pick a pair more to my liking, and she'd give those to me at 50% off as well, and I did just that. All told, it took about an hour to get me into a proper set of shoes and good pair of socks (which I bought more of later at a different location). All the while, the employee was supremely patient, kind, professional, helpful, and just great. What else is completely unheard of in this day and age? They have a 60-day exchange / refund policy. The employee said that sometimes things just don't feel right after a few weeks, and if that turns out to be the case, I can come back and get something different, or get a refund. How did they shoes, insoles, and socks turn out? AMAZINGLY!!!!! I am honestly beyond shocked at how huge a difference they've made. I have no more blistering at all, despite my walking much longer distances and having injected some running and jogging into my walks, the agonizing pain in my right shin also has completely gone away. The plantar fasciitis? Gone. I seriously cannot state how thoroughly and completely I'm impressed and happy with Fleet Feet! it took me a LOT to muster the courage to come to a place like this (it's embarrassing for somebody my age to be so badly out of shape), and how completely comfortable the super kind employee made me feel, and made what could have potentially been a terrible experience, an absolute pleasure instead. We don't have a Feet Fleet in Las Vegas any longer and was in town for work and scheduled an appointment for a fitting because I have been having knee problems with running. I run with Hokas now and they have been doing me well, but something was off and was looking at the custom 3D Printed Super Feet. I met with Chris today and he spent nearly 2 hours with me making sure I was going to be in the right shoe and insole that would prevent any further injuries. I had the foot scan done and while he could have upsold me into customs, we found the right fit without breaking the bank. I have never been so happy to give away my money as I did today. The new Hokas (different model) feel way better and with him spending the time with me to make sure I was getting into the right shoe gives me confidence to tick on the miles. Thanks Chris! There are quite a few running stores in Portland proper; but I feel that this place does things that other running shops don't. For example, 1.) they have a indoor little track, so you can run around on the track when you try on shoes and see how they feel 2.) they have treadmills for you to simulate for longer 3.) They offer good sunglasses! I don't know why, but for a running marketed sunglasses brand, other running stores don't carry this product. So, that is exciting that they have it! As far as shoe stores are concerned, Fleet Feet is the bees knees! Don't try to price things out online-- you might be able to get the shoe you want, but you WONT be able to get the shoe you NEED. They used their 3D scan machine to measure my feet and then they got three pairs of shoes that would fit, considering my running style, foot shape, and injury history. I ran a few laps around the store and picked out the shoes styles I liked. Unfortunately I couldn't find the style in my size and the guy actually jumped online and found a pair that was on clearance and was from a competitor (!) That's going way above and beyond the call of duty and I'm super appreciative. What they lost in the sale of one pair of shoes, they gained 10x in trust and in a new repeat customer. I still ended up buying a waist pocket thing so I didn't walk away empty handed. But with the money I saved I spent the difference and got the super primo one. Score! If you're even slightly interested in running, Take the effort to come out to fleet feet. Engage with the associates there (mine was named John by the way. Wassup if you're reading this). Listen to their advice. Invest in your feet. Running is harsh and the right pair of shoes can literally save you from a lifetimes worth of pain. It's worth it 9000. This store is incredible. I can honestly say I've never had such a positive retail experience. I came in because of the many positive reviews. I've taken up running and am about to run my first race. In training, I was having some pain in my toes and I had a feeling it was a poor fitting shoe. When I arrived I was greeted by staff and was asked to have a seat while they finished up with a customer. I was lucky enough to have Chris help me. He did a scan of my feet and asked me some questions about use. He then tried me in a couple shoes and analyzed my gait in them. I have notoriously difficult to fit feet and Chris knew exactly what would work. He was patient, answered a million questions, and made me feel welcome and encouraged, even as a newbie to running. I've always been a runner, in some facet or another. While not competitive past middle school, running has been my main source of exercise. Sadly - read the not competitive since middle school - that also meant my shoes were FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL. I am a college graduate. You do the math. I bet that math adds up to "Why the hell didn't you buy some new shoes?" It's mostly because I'm really lazy about that stuff. Ask my dentist. Or eye doctor. I just don't like routine things like that. Then...my knee started to hurt while running. And my big toe started to pop through that old shoe. Oh man, I have to buy a RUNNING SHOE!? Ugh. I went to a big box retailer to do such a thing. When I left my face was like 0_0 I was just too overwhelmed. I turned to Yelp, of course, and the top pick was here. It was all that it promised to be - which for me, was help picking a shoe. It was a pretty busy Sunday & they just so happened to be having a 10% off sale. YES! I did the video thing - wow, my calves are that big? No way, camera, you lie! And the fitting - turns out my left foot is a bit longer than my right foot, WHOA. Oh, that's normal says Sir Shoe-Fitter - cool. I'm not abnormal. Once that's all taken care of, he grabs a few pairs of shoes and has me try each pair on. The first pair felt like the heel was slipping and he showed me a cool trick with lacing the shoes to keep that from happening. I tried on three pairs, picked my two favorite and took turns running with each on the other foot to see which was most comfy. I'm sure I looked like a goob with mismatched shoes, trotting up and down NW PDX but that's how you have to do it. Pair selected - Adidas Zero (so nice and lightweight) and some socks to boot - all 10% and off I went like a happy runner. These people take their shoe fitting seriously. I will add I am SUPER shy and HATE salespeople hawking stuff at me. There was no pressure here to buy & I witnessed a lot of other salespeep's interactions. Including one where the sales guy was so patient with another shopper while I was secretly ripping my hair out listening to her obnoxious, uninformed demands. So...kudos there. read more

I went into Fleet Feet yesterday looking for a new pair of running shoes. I use to go to Portland Running Company as they were closer to where I lived, but Fleet Feet is so convenient for me now. Just so you know, I worked with, Coop. He was awesome and really helpful. I feel like I have to compare Fleet Feet to Portland Running Co and I have to give Fleet Feet the WIN. Their store layout with the little track is pretty spiffy! They also seemed to do way more analysis on my gait, walking/running style and gave me a TON more options. The prices of the shoes were reasonable, I mean I paid $110 for a nice pair of Brookings which is what I would have likely paid on Amazon (I took a shot of the UPC code.) I recently moved from NYC, and as a result, had to find a new running store to fill the hole that JackRabbit once occupied. I've had gait analysis before (thank you, JackRabbit), and have been using the same brand of shoes for almost 3 years now (thank you, Brooks), so as a result, I knew exactly what I wanted before walking in. I was so happy to see the Adrenaline GTS 12 on the sales floor. (I kid you not, I had been waiting weeks for these shoes to hit the market.) After waiting for less than 2 minutes, the salesman asked if I had any questions, so I asked if he had those in my size. About two minutes later, he returned with my size (this in and of itself is a miracle, because I need a size 13, which is extremely hard to find). I put them on, and he suggested taking a jog around the block. I looked at him like he had 3 heads, because I've never had a shoe salesman say that. Regardless, I ran around the block. And those first steps were fantastic. Until my quad reminded me that I just ran a marathon and it needed time to recover. So I bought my news, and at the request of my quads, I will be waiting to take them for a spin. I can't wait for that day! Running is pure masochism. Don't do it. It's not worth it. Me, I walk. To work and from work. Far less exposure to stanky humans than on the bus. It turns out I walk kinda heavy. My left foot started hurting and apparently I'm old enough to have to say stuff like "My podiatrist recommended..." Because, indeed, my podiatrist recommended I come up to Fleet Feet. If you've seen my ZoomCare reviews you know I have some problems with the medical business, but in this case that was some dang good advice from the podiatrist. Even if he is a runner. Crazy. With my plantar fasciitis 95% better and a tax refund in my bank account I finally make it up to this newly vanilla-ized corner of P-town exactly a month before I'm writing this review. I explain my situation (walking, not running) and they get to work. First thing is the foot scanner. Radar or whatever. Turns out I have a pretty low instep, which explains why it's so dang hard to keep my shoes tied tightly. We're off to a good start. Next was not shoes, but insoles. The dude helping me (James, according to the receipt) seemed to know as much about plantar fasciitis as the podiatrist did and had a good idea what I needed for the insole. We tried a few options and I went with his recommendation. How the heck would I know? THEN we went to the shoes. So many boxes, so many options. Honestly, I couldn't follow it all. I did take test walks, two of them, before I found my new walking shoes. My new dry weather walking shoes, that is. Because it was going to be cold and rainy for a while yet I was recommended a different set of insoles for my boots. I've been walking to and fro work ever since without a problem. Then, to the register. They were having a sale! I walked out with shoes and two pairs of insoles for rather less money than I would have expected to spend on the shoes alone! Huzzah! I was there for a long time. A long time. Not too long, and not because any time was being wasted. It was a process and Fleet Feet was going to make sure it was done the right away. I really liked Fit Right Northwest Running and Walking Store. I like the personal touch they put into finding you the correct shoe. First they had me run on a treadmill and filmed how my feet hit the treadmill and how I lift off from my toe. They explained how I run and how different shoes can help modify my step and how certain items can help with lifting or supporting my arches. It was really more information than I thought I would get from a shoe store. The selection doesn't seem expansive but they do try to get you into a shoe that is supportive and comfortable. The sales team is nice and not pushy. I really enjoyed my visit and would buy shoes from them again. read more

For runners, by runners. Probably not their actual motto, but it could be. This store is obviously all about the runners out there. They have community runs. The selection is all specialty - On, Hoka, New Balance, etc. And amazing customer service. An easy five stars. I stopped in here to check out some Hoka One One shoes and got some great advice and excellent service from Hugh. Honesty is always the best policy, and he helped me sort out the truth from BS on some advice I had received. He wasn't bent on selling me a particular thing, but working with me to suit my specific needs in whatever way made sense. And we found something that definitely made sense. I walked away happy, with a product backed by a decently long, hassle-free return policy. They're going for the long term customer here, not the quick sale. And that's what I like. Plenty of runner-specific gear here, as well as all sorts of help making sure you have the right fit... down to the shoe or the clothing. Worth paying full price for any day. read more

I walked into this store with question on pedometers or fuel band type devices. I wanted to learn more about their events, too. The store was cool, decorated great, loads of running magazines and pamphlets for upcoming runs. John was the fella I spoke to, he was very helpful and informative. The clothing and shoes were a bit pricey, but it's performance gear and it's a running store, so I was not surprised. I am a bit of an amateur. I am fit and enjoy running at the gym, but I am no die-hard. I want to learn more and get out this Spring/Summer. They host a lot of events and that is very cool. I will try one of their events or runs. They seem legit. Garmin has a fuel band VivoFit at 130.00. Yelp has a 10% off check-in offer. Maybe I'll invest in a tracking device here, I still have Christmas Money. read more

My first pair of shoes from Fit Right certainly did not fit right. However, this was of no fault of the Fit Right staff. Let me explain. I'm certainly not built like a runner. I might be a little bit hot by Botticelli standards when done up and in proper undergarments. However, in workout clothing and an industrial strength sports bra, I look like a linebacker. As a result I'm self conscious about running in front of "real" runners because I'm neither graceful, nor quick. Imagine Godzilla...with boobs. At any rate, Saturday was crazy busy. However, the store was well staffed, so we didn't have to wait for anyone to help us. They did the gait analysis and the whole time I was running I was thinking, "Don't run like Godzilla. Don't run like Godzilla." As a result, I think the gait analysis was fixed. So I left with my shoes, and three days and two runs later returned, declaring, "These are the Devil's shoes!" I confessed my Godzilla fears to the clerk and he insisted I just run "normally" (like Godzilla). He was quite patient with me and I finally settled on a pair of Brooks, to replace my stolen Brooks, which is what prompted this trip to shoe store in the first place. Jury is still out, but I'm confident I'd be able to return and declare that this pair Devil's shoes as well, and yet another clerk would patiently try to fit me with the perfect pair of shoes. read more

I am going to start my review stating this: I am not a runner. Well at least not yet....I don't look like a runner, don't talk like one..but goddamn it I am gonna eventually be one!!!!!!!!!!!!! So started running a bit and then that bit became a tad smidgen more...and then the shin splints hit wicked bad. Think crying on the road attempting to gnaw legs off with my teeth bad....I had to do something and meth is just too bad for the teeth. So I yelped running..found this place and sucked up my courage and walked in the door. I almost had a panic attack...no lie..(well a little lie but you get the gist) ... there was the real runners, the ones with thin limbs and graceful movements...and then I ran into the brochure holder by the door and I thought for a hot minute that the "not a real runner" alarm would go off and I would be quickly exited from the store...Instead a charming fellow came up and sad "How can I help you?" and there was no look of "why the hell is the chubby girl in our store??! Did she get lost looking for the cupcake stand?!!??" I explained my problem and while he did not promise that new shoes would fix it entirely he did state it could not hurt. So I was placed on a treadmill and ran approx 1.5 minutes and had to watch myself run in slow-mo...now here is my problem with this place... I swear to god that my calves cannot be that chubby.....They must have some sort of "make calves look chubbier" cameras...anyhoo....after that he had me try on 8 shoes and run outside with them. I kinda felt like a dweeb going back up and down the block but then "real runners" started talking to me...telling me how stupid they also felt...I even started to feel comfortable...okay long story kinda short...I ended up buying a pair of shoes and went for a run that night. I was able to complete the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just two days prior I wasn't able to go 3 minutes before keeling over and wishing the apocolyse could take me right then...and now I was able to run pain free! I felt comfortable the whole time, non-judged and that they really listened to my complaints. They were super nice and not pushy (my guy even suggested I don't buy shoes and wait to see if I could get a bigger coupon at the first thursday event). I decided to check out Fit Right due to the fact that they have the treadmill gait analysis. I had previously been purchasing my shoes at a different local retailer. I'll never go back. I still ended up buying the shoes because I feel like it's a way of paying for the service of the gait analysis and fitting, but I've never left a retailer feeling so poorly about myself. We went through the entire fitting and I was shopping for a couple of other things as well. After a half an hour or so of talking/trying/running/fitting the salesperson said to me, "well, if you actually run as much as you say you run." I'm sorry, but I wasn't there to prove myself to you, I was just answering your questions. I also know I may not "look like a runner" or whatever, but I really have no reason to lie to you.
