I really like Shoe Mill in general, but not so much this location. This is the smallest of the Shoe Mill locations I've been to, and their selection is correspondingly small. You'll be better off going to another location if you want a wider selection. Additionally, the smallest men's size at this location is generally 9 or 9 1/2. I and my son wear a size 8 1/2, and they literally have a couple of shoes available in that size. They always offer to "get them in that size from another store", but I don't want that hassle if I want to buy shoes then and there (which is generally why one goes to a shoe store). Service is a mixed bag, depending on the employee (some are SUPER helpful, and others seem like you're bothering them by asking for help, and this is not a self-service shoe store). read more

shoes repeatedly break 3 months after warranty. spent over $1,000 at this store in the last 1.5 years and I've had 2 pair of chaco's snap and a pair of their highest grade boots worn through the boot bottom. I was told the boots are defects and was given no refund for any of the shoes. The manager of the store told me "you must be doing something to break them" and told me that I should get a minimum of 3 years out of chaco's. 2 pairs in 2.5 years doesn't even come close to that standard. go somewhere else. read more

Very nice and knowledgeable staff! Wade was very patient and did the most to make sure I found the right shoes and insoles for my long nursing shifts. Came in here to try on some Hoka's to see what all the hype was about. Turns out they also had BALA twelves that I've been trying to decide on as well. They were on also on sale and definitely more comfortable and a better fit than the Hoka's for my feet. Thank you!!! :) read more

Erik Aalvik was super helpful in fitting both my husband and me in new Hokas. We're in our 70's so our feet have covered a lot of miles! Erik made good suggestions based on our foot shape, arch formation, etc. We walked out of the Shoe Mill with 3 pairs of new Hokas, some great insoles for added support, and even a new pair of Feetures socks for me. Got feet issues? Store Manager Erik Aalvik is the person to see! My son had been experiencing plantar fasciitis on one of his feet so I took him to a podiatrist. The Dr told his to get some soft insoles and sent him on his way. This treatment plan seemed as bit anorexic to me so I brought my son to Erik who has a well-known stellar reputation for addressing foot issues. Thirty minutes later we had an education, a game plan, and the new shoes and insoles expense was considerably less than the doctors visit. read more

I have unusually high arches and narrow feet, so I always have a horrible time finding shoes that fit well and as a result, have been having a lot of foot pain. Shane at shoe mill was super helpful and assisted me in finding 2 pairs of shoes that actually fit well and were extremely comfortable in a very short amount of time. The store has a GREAT selection of shoes and I've always liked the Shoe Mill. My recent experience was not good at Cascade. It was however quite specific to the sales person and I suspect it would have been totally fine with someone else. This person had very poor listening skills and overzealous talking skills - aggressive and impatient. He ended up insisting I buy shoes that turned out to be too big (which I tried to explain when there) and shoe inserts that had the arch hitting in the wrong spot. When I told him the shoe felt big, my heel was moving, the arch felt weird he said that was all normal and I wanted to trust his expertise. But after wearing them some it clearly wasn't right so I went to Washington Square store where they confirmed, yes, the shoe is too big and yes that's not the right insert at all. I can make do with the shoes and Washington square was very nice about changing out the insert. As an aside, he also told me that no running shoe is wear ready - they all need inserts. A very reputable running shoe store near me, Foot Traffic, said that is not true. They said that at $140-$200+ a pair, the shoes are ready to go unless you have specific foot issues requiring inserts (which I don't). Believe what you will! read more

The assistant manager here, Greg, makes me LOL. He is so personable and funny but also knowledgable. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel like their casual women's shoe section is limited. I found plenty of boots and dressier shoes, but I was looking for street-wear appropriate shoes and the selection was limited to a few Ecco styles mostly. Otherwise great staff, pricing, and customer service! I bought some ankle boots and dressier heeled boots and was happy with my purchase. read more

Jon, the manager, was so, so SO helpful in helping me find boots and insoles for work. In additional to telling me all about Blundstones, he also invited me to scan my feet with their fancy foot insole scanner machine and was able to suggest some amazing Aetrex foot insoles that are absolutely changing the pain I feel in my back and arches already. I have lived 30 years of my life thinking I had a flat foot only to be shown that I've got a high metatarsal arch, who even knew? Seriously strange experience. Another caffeine related incident I suspect. A mismatch of styles let's say, I would rather my shoe salesman not be aggressive, overly intense, and worst, careless around physical distancing (so busy forcefully arguing everything!), not to mention arrogant, going way too fast (I would be very surprised if large amounts of caffeine weren't at play here), and bizarre. A couple of quotes from our exchange: In response to my not wanting to talk about my medical condition (?): "well, I cannot help you if you won't talk to me!". Honest, he said that a few times. And,"Oh, well, that's your WHOLE problem", referring to something that was neither my whole problem or a problem at all, he had misunderstood something because he is going so fast and talking so much and so loud. After speaking with him gently and calmly for some time, I finally had to more forcefully tell him to please move away from me as he was leaning in to me from about 4 feet and speaking forcefully and loudly into my face, albeit with a mask that also didnt inspire confidence. His response to that was to throw up his arms and exclaim once again that he simply cannot help me then, which of course makes zero sense, but is his big line I guess. Nice I suppose that he wanted to help me so much, but he wasn't helping at all, he was flooding me with information in order to take control of the conversation. The store however looked extra neat, tidy and fastidious, and it occurred to me that my guy may be much better at fussing over displays than relating to people. I have been to this location a couple of times, usually when I accompany my husband to Portland when he has meetings. I love this store because James is the Manager and he is AWESOME. He is personable - and he remembered my name from a visit over a year ago! I was stunned! He knows his shoe brands and offered ways to correct the "sloppy' feeling I had in some of the shoes, using a cork insert under the insole to prevent extra room. He suggested trying arch support inserts for better support. He doesn't balk when I realized a pair of Austrian shoes I fell in love with and wanted to buy then discovered the price was too much. He doesn't push you to buy the most expensive shoes; he helps you find the shoe that fits best and suits your style. I definitely enjoy shopping here. read more

WORST customer service ever. Once store clerk realized they did not carry shoe in the small size that I wear she blew me off and began helping 2 other customers. (both walked in the door after I was already in the store) She never circled back to see if she could help with any other shoes. I drove from Vancouver in hopes of purchasing a pair of running shoes. Usually, when I'm shopping for new work shoes, I head over to Clogs 'n More to replace my cabrio professional Dansko's. This is kind of an inconvenience as the Hawthorne store is a bit far for me and the NW location is great but parking is a bitch. So, I avoid buying new work shoes until my feet are absolutely wrecked. I did a bit of googling and found that Shoe Mill at Cascade Station carries a bunch of great brands including Keen, Birkenstock and Dansko. Since my boyfriend and I were heading that way we decided to stop in Wednesday and check it out. I'm so glad we did because we had such a great experience and found the perfect pair of work shoes for my block feet. The gal who helped me was friendly, greeted us immediately and helped me choose a new style of Dansko that I couldn't be happier with. I will definitely return to that location. I have been looking for a well made work shoe for quite awhile. I was frustrated in the process of looking for a great work shoe. I called this store and spoke to Trevor Dowd. He was very friendly, upbeat and just a pleasant person over the phone!! I was so impressed with him so I went straight to the store to meet him. I was not disappointed!! Trevor was very patient, a great listener, full of knowledge, and full of answers to my million questions!! He is really concerned about your needs and not just trying to sell shoes.
