On a Saturday afternoon, with a shop full of customers for the Labor Day sales, Austin gave me the best customer service I could hope for. After reporting about my squeaky Swiss shoes that I had purchased there almost a year ago, he offered me a replacement of the same brand at an outstanding deal, even though my squeaky shoes were well worn. I will be purchasing all of my family's shoes through them from now on. Thanks Austin! read more

A vast selection of Birkenstocks! I went in to find a comfortable pair of closed toe Birkenstocks, leaving with a pair of Sherling lined suede. They are the most comfortable shoe for my foot. Austin was so very congenial from the moment I walked in the door to helping me with sizing and easy checkout. A very genuine individual, focusing with a kind and helpful customer service, which is the best experience in a very long time with shopping for shoes. Being family owned and operated business, I strongly suggest this location and reference as a go to if you are in the vicinity looking for a variety of brands with dressy, everyday wear and sneakers. read more

Shoe Mill - Sherling line Birkenstock - Shoe Stores Near Me - Portland, Oregon

Shoe Mill operates several fine footwear retail stores in Portland and Salem, Oregon. That's what the Apple Maps says. But let me tell you something. The man who sold me this pair of Hoka One One is perhaps the most vivacious, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and happy person I have ever met in a shoe store. He is the antithesis of Al Bundy. I have been hiking my entire vacation out here in Portland, clocking something like 40 miles in five days. (don't judge if you're a big-time hiker. I'm just getting started. I need time for tattoos, meeting my cousin for the first time, and other vacation type stuff) anyway the point is my feet are tired. Hoka is to feet what Visine is to a stoner's eyes. So I went in there. This guy was like a super happy positive ant lion. There was no possible way I was leaving without a pair of shoes, less I endure the sight of his bright smile faltering for just one second. And I don't regret it. But there's more. You see I missed my flight this morning because of a delay and the airline had to reschedule it all, and comp me a hotel room near this shopping mall. So instead of going home today, I'm stuck next to 20 acres of retail, which thankfully includes bars. Four margaritas in, I'm wandering around again and I see him walking a couple out. Each has the exact same bag that I had, with the same blue box emblazoned with the same brand. They are praising him for his knowledge and thanking him for the $600 they just dropped. Corporate, if you're reading this, this dude is regional manager material. I wanted to slap him high five, and yell, "Bro! Hoka! F@&k yeah!!" But that seemed like it would be a lot. And none of those three had been drinking margaritas all day. Anyway, point is, buy some shoes here. read more

Susan and Emilio were so incredibly helpful recently. I work on concrete eight hours a day and they fitted me with an and shoes for the first time ever my feet don't burn and I feel good at the end of my workday. I am so appreciative for all customer service. Thank you again. read more

Thank you Austin for helping an undecisive 7th grader choose the best ergonomic shoes for her growing self and explaining why HOKA'S are worth $$ and quality. We came for volleyball shoes but no one in town really carries them. So we got HOKA for daily school and NIKEs at Nike store for volleyball. 2 days of practice in her now favorite HOKA had great grip on gym floor and outside. On day 3 we switched to Nike and my kid rolled and broke her ankle landing in hospital surgery. All she kept saying... I wish I had worn the HOKAs. Now she wears one good HOKA while in a cast. We are grateful the salesperson spent the 20 minutes getting the right shoe where most service folks ignore or get annoyed. read more

I hate shopping for shoes. Trying to find shoes that fit my weird feet, can accommodate custom orthotics, are in my budget and actually attractive is always a frustrating experience. But I need walking shoes for an upcoming trip, so I tried Shoe Mill. It was a pleasant surprise to find they still use "old-fashioned" approach here. Instead of slinging boxes at me and leaving me to sort it out, the salesperson, Susan, helped me through the entire visit. She listened to what I needed and was very knowledgeable about the shoes and proper fit. It took 10-12 pairs to find what I was looking for and she was upbeat and kind the whole time, while also helping several other customers. I ended up with two pairs of walking shoes that are not only comfortable, but super cute! Best shoe shopping experience I've had in years and I'm actually looking forward to my next visit. read more

I purchase shoes online (as no stores near me) from time to time as needed from Shoe Mill and have always had an excellent experience. Recent purchases of HOKA walking shoes and Keen boots has been a great experience. The shoes came on time as promised and I was informed as to the delivery day and time. Great experience shopping on their website and the quality shoes are great value. read more

I just moved here and went to Shoe Mill at Cascade Station near PDX. I was greeted and assisted by Emilio Castro at the store. I must say, he is the most friendly, kind, knowledgeable sales associate and just a great human to meet and have his help. I ended up buying two pair of shoes last week. They fit great, look great and were reasonably priced. I highly recommend Shoe Mill at Cascade Station and please ask for Emilio! read more

Shoe Mill is my favorite shoe store. They treat their customers great, help you like the old days when they get down on the floor & make sure your shoes fit, go beyond the call of duty. Plus, they have comfortable, good for your feet, cool shoes. Recently purchased 2 pairs at their Cascade Station store & Emilio Castro waited on me. He is SO helpful & a true joy to work with! read more

follow up to last post The day afterwards I received a call from the manager stating there was a confusion with accounts in the system showing the mistake with the payment, it was corrected and a apologie was made on behalf of the behavior of the salesmen of the day prior. The problem was resolved . I appreciate the follow up call. read more

My mama was visiting for my sisters graduation, and she came bearing a pair of tennis shoes that were 20 years old ,. I was insistent that we go get her a pair of shoes. Eric was amazing , he sat my mama down and explained to her how important it was to take care of herself and how much she needed to let herself be taken care of , it was what was supposed to happen and I couldn't be more thankful. It's nice to have someone care these days . Thank you Eric! Ps. She tried to go back for those shoes for "yard" shoes , we promptly left the station ! Thanks again! read more

Fabulous experience, excellent salesman who gave you all the attention you needed and brought out many many models to choose from

I really like Shoe Mill in general, but not so much this location. This is the smallest of the Shoe Mill locations I've been to, and their selection is correspondingly small. You'll be better off going to another location if you want a wider selection. Additionally, the smallest men's size at this location is generally 9 or 9 1/2. I and my son wear a size 8 1/2, and they literally have a couple of shoes available in that size. They always offer to "get them in that size from another store", but I don't want that hassle if I want to buy shoes then and there (which is generally why one goes to a shoe store). Service is a mixed bag, depending on the employee (some are SUPER helpful, and others seem like you're bothering them by asking for help, and this is not a self-service shoe store). read more

shoes repeatedly break 3 months after warranty. spent over $1,000 at this store in the last 1.5 years and I've had 2 pair of chaco's snap and a pair of their highest grade boots worn through the boot bottom. I was told the boots are defects and was given no refund for any of the shoes. The manager of the store told me "you must be doing something to break them" and told me that I should get a minimum of 3 years out of chaco's. 2 pairs in 2.5 years doesn't even come close to that standard. go somewhere else. read more

Very nice and knowledgeable staff! Wade was very patient and did the most to make sure I found the right shoes and insoles for my long nursing shifts. Came in here to try on some Hoka's to see what all the hype was about. Turns out they also had BALA twelves that I've been trying to decide on as well. They were on also on sale and definitely more comfortable and a better fit than the Hoka's for my feet. Thank you!!! :) read more

Erik Aalvik was super helpful in fitting both my husband and me in new Hokas. We're in our 70's so our feet have covered a lot of miles! Erik made good suggestions based on our foot shape, arch formation, etc. We walked out of the Shoe Mill with 3 pairs of new Hokas, some great insoles for added support, and even a new pair of Feetures socks for me. We're both very happy with our choices and have been wearing them almost constantly since making the purchases. Thanks, Erik, for a satisfying shoe buying experience. read more

Greg's vast knowledge has made me a new customer. A podiatrist recommended Hoka shoes but did not go into detail. Greg assessed my condition and chose the particular style that would best address my pain and he spent more time explaining things than the doctor did! read more

Got feet issues? Store Manager Erik Aalvik is the person to see! My son had been experiencing plantar fasciitis on one of his feet so I took him to a podiatrist. The Dr told his to get some soft insoles and sent him on his way. This treatment plan seemed as bit anorexic to me so I brought my son to Erik who has a well-known stellar reputation for addressing foot issues. Thirty minutes later we had an education, a game plan, and the new shoes and insoles expense was considerably less than the doctors visit. read more

I have unusually high arches and narrow feet, so I always have a horrible time finding shoes that fit well and as a result, have been having a lot of foot pain. Shane at shoe mill was super helpful and assisted me in finding 2 pairs of shoes that actually fit well and were extremely comfortable in a very short amount of time. I have never had such a good shoe shopping experience before. I will definitely be coming back! Excellent customer service and top of the line shoe options! read more

Fantastic shop and they sell quality shoes here! Dansko, Uggs and Birkenstocks just to name a few. The sales woman that was working today was helpful, personable and friendly. The store has a GREAT selection of shoes and I've always liked the Shoe Mill. My recent experience was not good at Cascade. It was however quite specific to the sales person and I suspect it would have been totally fine with someone else. This person had very poor listening skills and overzealous talking skills - aggressive and impatient. He ended up insisting I buy shoes that turned out to be too big (which I tried to explain when there) and shoe inserts that had the arch hitting in the wrong spot. When I told him the shoe felt big, my heel was moving, the arch felt weird he said that was all normal and I wanted to trust his expertise. But after wearing them some it clearly wasn't right so I went to Washington Square store where they confirmed, yes, the shoe is too big and yes that's not the right insert at all. I can make do with the shoes and Washington square was very nice about changing out the insert. As an aside, he also told me that no running shoe is wear ready - they all need inserts. A very reputable running shoe store near me, Foot Traffic, said that is not true. They said that at $140-$200+ a pair, the shoes are ready to go unless you have specific foot issues requiring inserts (which I don't). Believe what you will! read more

The assistant manager here, Greg, makes me LOL. He is so personable and funny but also knowledgable. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel like their casual women's shoe section is limited. I found plenty of boots and dressier shoes, but I was looking for street-wear appropriate shoes and the selection was limited to a few Ecco styles mostly. Otherwise great staff, pricing, and customer service! I bought some ankle boots and dressier heeled boots and was happy with my purchase. read more

Jon, the manager, was so, so SO helpful in helping me find boots and insoles for work. In additional to telling me all about Blundstones, he also invited me to scan my feet with their fancy foot insole scanner machine and was able to suggest some amazing Aetrex foot insoles that are absolutely changing the pain I feel in my back and arches already. I have lived 30 years of my life thinking I had a flat foot only to be shown that I've got a high metatarsal arch, who even knew? Seriously strange experience. Another caffeine related incident I suspect. A mismatch of styles let's say, I would rather my shoe salesman not be aggressive, overly intense, and worst, careless around physical distancing (so busy forcefully arguing everything!), not to mention arrogant, going way too fast (I would be very surprised if large amounts of caffeine weren't at play here), and bizarre. A couple of quotes from our exchange: In response to my not wanting to talk about my medical condition (?): "well, I cannot help you if you won't talk to me!". Honest, he said that a few times. And,"Oh, well, that's your WHOLE problem", referring to something that was neither my whole problem or a problem at all, he had misunderstood something because he is going so fast and talking so much and so loud. After speaking with him gently and calmly for some time, I finally had to more forcefully tell him to please move away from me as he was leaning in to me from about 4 feet and speaking forcefully and loudly into my face, albeit with a mask that also didnt inspire confidence. His response to that was to throw up his arms and exclaim once again that he simply cannot help me then, which of course makes zero sense, but is his big line I guess. Nice I suppose that he wanted to help me so much, but he wasn't helping at all, he was flooding me with information in order to take control of the conversation. The store however looked extra neat, tidy and fastidious, and it occurred to me that my guy may be much better at fussing over displays than relating to people. Wouldn't be the first time for such a thing. read more

Nice selection and excellent service. Trevor Dowd was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Thanks for a great experience!

I have been to this location a couple of times, usually when I accompany my husband to Portland when he has meetings. I love this store because James is the Manager and he is AWESOME. He is personable - and he remembered my name from a visit over a year ago! I was stunned! He knows his shoe brands and offered ways to correct the "sloppy' feeling I had in some of the shoes, using a cork insert under the insole to prevent extra room. He suggested trying arch support inserts for better support. He doesn't balk when I realized a pair of Austrian shoes I fell in love with and wanted to buy then discovered the price was too much. He doesn't push you to buy the most expensive shoes; he helps you find the shoe that fits best and suits your style. I definitely enjoy shopping here. read more

WORST customer service ever. Once store clerk realized they did not carry shoe in the small size that I wear she blew me off and began helping 2 other customers. (both walked in the door after I was already in the store) She never circled back to see if she could help with any other shoes. I drove from Vancouver in hopes of purchasing a pair of running shoes. (and a pair of boots). I will not be a customer at this store now or in the future. And have already shared my experience with others. read more
