It's that time of the year for me, I have to buy shoes for walking, running, and for everyday use. My wife and I went to Dick's Sporting Goods where they sell an abundant variety of shoes to choose from. I specially like their efficient system when I buy shoes, first I try to choose the item/shoes that I like, then I scan the shoe at their digital pad to find out if there is an available size for that item, if there is, I can digitally request it so that I can try it on, I just have to input my name then wait for my name to be called by the staff when they carry it out from their storage. The service was fast, systematic and efficient. I was able to buy new shoes in no time. Price is fair, they usually have red tags for sale items, shoes were properly arrange in each category. Definitely you won't leave without buying something if not your first choice , an alternative. My husband had a great experience of availing the merchandise he liked in a fashionable way. Upon selection of the shoe item , he scanned to verify if there is available on his size and requested for it via the customer scanner located on particular station . He just seated and wait for his name to be called for item delivery. He fitted the shoes , was satisfied and purchased. I guess, there is a spot to leave the item if not happy with it. I am posting this bc I am very annoyed at a sales person, who aggressively sold us an inferior lacrosse stick than the one we went to buy. I know nothing about lacrosse but my son did his research and found the stick he wanted. When we got to the store the sales person aggressively push another stick. Being that I know little about the subject, I took his word for it. I later learned that this was an inferior stick and Dick's was really pushing it as many large stores do bc of greater profit margins. I visited with a friend who needed to buy hockey equipment for her 8 yr old daughter. We were not sure what we needed just got a list from the league that we just signed up for. Luckily the sale person we encountered was knowledgeable. He got us the helmet and stick from the aisles we were walking down. The rest of the equipment he said he needed to check the back. He was gone for a while and I actually asked did he forget about us. Well...he definitely did not! Not only he came back with the rest of the gear, he brought a cart so it was easy for us to move it around! Definitely GREAT service. Another great thing was they take competitors coupons so the 15% off models coupon was used! While on line the displays around the cashier was messy. Got a pair of binoculars found in hunting section. I did not get the gentlemans name so i asked him if the binoculars in my price range of under $100 he showed me one that runs about $80 a good bang for my buck. Not one wearing a mask (they had them, but took them off). These kids were too young to have come on their own - where were their parents? I purchased for curb-side pick-up an SPI running belt ($19.99) and two SPI H20 companion water bottles ($9.99 each) online - after confirming in stock at the Garden City store. A half hour later, I got two emails saying the order was cancelled because items were out of stock. Total with tax = $43.42. I called DSG's customer service line and asked what happened. The rep couldn't explain but was able to help me order by phone, but now I would have to pay shipping. The rep understood why I would be unhappy about that (due to order cancel) so she gave me free shipping. Amazingly, I got the items the very next day. I tried them out and the product - particularly the water bottles were terrible. First, they are tiny. 8 oz is not much. Even with both it's not nearly enough water. Even so, the main problem is that the bottles don't stay put. They fall off when full or empty. The product description says bounce free but that didn't work out. The bottles bounced off a few times. I decided to return in-store. When I got my return credit receipt, it was for $36.91. What happened to the remaining $6.51. I called customer service and the rep (Saidon) couldn't explain why the in-store price/credit price would be different. (Are they charging more by phone than in store? Shouldn't the same product cost the same on-line, on the phone, and in-store? And if not, consumers should know the different prices in order to make an informed choice. The Saidon was excellent. Very professional and understanding. He gave me credit for the difference although this is not typically done. He understood the weirdness of the situation and acted in a customer-friendly way. He should be recognized for his good customer service. For Saidon, I give 5 stars. For the rep who took the phone order - I give 4 stars - props for free shipping but losing a star for charging higher than in-store. In-store, I give 2 stars. Cashier Rachel was professional and friendly. Wait was not too long given length of line. Good social distance marking. Not so good in enforcing distancing, by store staff. And, of course not refunding the full amount. I can't blame Rachel - the computer made the error, so to speak. Store management should look into making sure DSG does not short change other customers. Overall 3 stars. I shop here occasionally and have been pleased with products, pricing, and returns. This seems to be a one-off. read more

Customer service is very minimal if you find one to ask for help they normally point fingers to direct you... They have a pretty good selection of north face jackets and some few choices of puffer coats I like, might be the only reason I might return next winter... I really wanted to leave a review of the Melville Dicks Sporting Goods but since they have deactivated or ability to leave a review of the store here I am. Field and stream was one of the greatest stores in the mid Island area I don't understand why they would close it now everything that Dicks Sporting Goods carries in stock you were able to get on Amazon. Field and stream was a niche store and I personally knew people that would travel over 100 miles to shop there. Now it's just Dicks Sporting Goods or should I say another useless department store that has fallen victim to our increasingly tilted liberal society. Out of all the dicks locations this has to be my favorite. I have been to just about all of them that I am aware of on long island. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Make sure you also sign up for their membership card. You will coupons and exclusive deals in email and snail mail. Most of their items are brand name so the prices are kind of up their but worth it. I have purchased multiple types of items and they withstood the test of time. For instance I purchased a Columbia jacket 5 years ago and it still looks as good as new! Love browsing at Dick's Sporting! There are no Dick's in the city besides Staten Island which is isolated by a $11 tolled bridge. The store is huge and has many of selections from beginners to expertise. If you can play it they have it! From walking sneakers to camping, biking, and canoes; yea, they got it! They pretty much had everything I needed. Score! North Face 2-person tent. Check. Camelback. Check. Tent pillow. Check. LED light. Check. This place is really spacious and with 2 floors, you could get lost in here all day. They carry men and women's apparel for all occasions. Right now, it is the end of summer, so a lot of the summer sports merchandise is on sale. Hurry and get your biking tops, board shorts for cheap! I also got a very heavy discount on my tent. I heart sales! They have a whole section for golf, sailing, camping, biking, all sorts of inline skates, hunting, swimming, hiking, fishing. On March 31st I ordered a bike from the Garden City, NY location. Went on April 1st to pick it up. Every email and text I got told me to stay in my car and they would load it in my car for safety from COVID-19. Being somewhat weary about ordering anything during this time, the fact they loaded in it for me made me feel a little easier. When the man came out, I said, "should I open the trunk?". He responded very rudely with "you're putting it in, I'm not" and walked away. Got out of my car, loaded it. Shrugged it off. I got home and immediately realized, the front tire was very bent. I called service immediately and sat on hold for an hour. The supervisor on the phone helped me rebook for same day pick up, another bike. Hung up and got the email that said standard delivery on April 10th. Called back immediately and was on hour for an hour. They told me they wouldn't be able to process the cancellation til after the bike came because I was out of my 30 minute grace period for an order THEY booked. Told them I wanted a supervisor and sat on hold long enough to go return the other bike before I was HUNG UP ON. As for the return, I was told by the store, customer service and an email they're doing curbside returns. I drive back and call the store from another phone and they tell me to go home and they aren't doing returns. I had to fight with them to even get them to talk to me. Currently waiting to see if my "request for cancellation goes through" or if I have to wait til April 10th to return it. What a TRASH experience by Dicks Sporting Goods. I'll never ever again consider them for a purchase. *****UPDATE. Second bike, that I didn't even want anymore, came with ANOTHER BENT WHEEL. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. What a WASTE. I was at the Melville store picking up a kayak I bought online. The most impressive person in the entire store is David. David from the moment I walked into the store was friendly and helpful. Luckily He helped me get the kayak into my small HRV. This man was so patient with me. A true kind-hearted man. I had a long ride to my destination and I didn't have to worry because David had secured the kayak beautifully, and with great care. David, you are an asset to Dicks sporting goods.
