I walked in to get a copy of his FFL and walked out with a new 12ga! Prior to that, I had a great experience with Hunter's Essentials. He assisted me with getting a collection of firearms from NYPD after a great friend passed away. He went above and beyond during a major snow storm to pick them up for me. Processed them all and transferred them to me without any issues at all. Thank you Bruce! read more

Nice guys, but are not helpful and not personable. Does not offer much help and information nor educate you on the products you tell them you are interested in. Come on......Help out someone new to something!! read more

I can't speak highly enough about the people here. I've been to a half dozen or more shops. Many of them treated me like an inconvenience. They couldn't be bothered with me. The guys at Hunters were extremely polite and welcoming. They answered all of my questions patiently. Not only did they not try to upsell me, but they tried to save me money at every turn. They have a great selection of arms and ammunition at great prices. If they don't have an item in stock, they'll likely work with you to order what you want. Again, I can't recommend Hunters Essentials enough. I'll never go anywhere else. read more

I am new to purchasing guns and needed assistance. Hunters Essentials was the first place I visited and I knew this was the only place I needed to see. Bruce was extremely helpful and took the time to answer all of my questions, of which I had many. They were very welcoming and willing to help me. I felt very confident after meeting them and purchased two guns with ammo. I greatly valued their time and assistance and enjoyed my first experience in a gun shop. If you're new to this, just go to Hunters Essentials. They will help you make the right purchase and feel comfortable and confident in the experience! read more

During the height of the Covid nonsense (May 2020) this shop was able to locate and order me the rifle I was dying to get and couldn't find before my wife was able to change her mind about letting me buy it. Now that's fast service! They didn't even jack up the price on me. read more

Great guys and always answers all of my questions without hesitation, prices are great and great selection of used guns as well!

Good place for FFL transfer. A small store but also provides gunsmithing where they pin/weld a barrel for me to bring it to compliance. Also have other items in stores including featureless and fixed mag AR15 ready for purchase. Bruce helped me with the pin/weld while I waited in store and was polite and professional. The guy at the cash register was snarky and sarcastic but whatever. read more

Absolutely love this store and it has now become my first stop, for all things firearms & supplies, going forward. Grew up in the area and moved back 5yrs ago. Found out they have been here for 20yrs which blew me away (no pun intended). Recently bought a shotgun and some ammo and plan to return soon for more inventory. Bobby and Bruce are gentlemen. They are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, helpful, and outstanding to work with. Highest recommendation for them! read more

I hade a FFL transfer to their great little store with everything in it lots of ammo knowledgeable people. Going back to buy more stuff

Found this place today. Needed some Glock assistance. Damn, I lucked out. Owner, Bruce, out-did my expectations. Modified and added enough making my 'little friend' much friendlier. His shop is on the side of the building, no big signs. This personable man knows his business. Steve L. read more

3 years since my original review and Bruce at Hunters Essentials is still the best gun shop on Long Island. I have purchased several items from Bruce since then and each transaction has been smooth. Bruce will always try to get you the best price on an item but if he can't match online stores he will do the FFL transfer for you no sweat. Bruce is probably one of the nicest and honest guys in the business. He runs a small shop, but its packed with everything you could need. Check with him first before you go anywhere else, you will not be disappointed. read more

Very nice guys. They're in it more to help those who wish to have firearms than just make a buck. Bruce is very knowledgeable and friendly. Buy all my ammo there and next gun will be from them as well. read more

Great local shop. The owner is a knowledgeable and friendly guy who helped me out tremendously. I made 2 rifle purchases from them and highly recommend. read more

As many other reviews have stated Bruce, the owner is so easy to talk to. He makes the entire process easy and as simple as possible. I called during business hours and it went to voicemail. He called back a short time later. We had a good conversation and he advised he'd be there late and to come on by. We did and he made it work for us. Here's the pluses: Bruce knows his stuff. He's obviously a professional. He understands the magnitude of owning a firearm. He makes sure you understand it too. He does it all in a welcoming way. He let's you know that if you need anything else, or help anytime down the road to call him. You know he means it. Here's the minuses: Can't think of any. read more

Best gun shop on the Island, Bruce is a true gentleman who's is very knowledgeable and courteous. He goes out of his way to help his customers make informed decisions about their purchases read more

I've been a customer of Bruce, the owner, for approximately 8 yrs. He's always been helpful answering the questions I've had about different guns, mods, etc. Until this year it was a relatively small shop where you would go in do what you wanted to do or get what you wanted to get. Around middle of this year its grown approx. triple in size so you have more space to walk, time to browse ..... and be tempted to buy more things;) Initially, in gthe beginning, I first came here because of proximity to my home but I continued coming here because of the service. If he is with a customer it is never that long a wait before he gets to you and the atmosphere is a little more relaxing unlike some other shops where you feel rushed and stressed to make a quick decision. If you know beforehand, like a day, I'd suggest you call to find out whether he will be in on the day and time you plan to stop by. read more

Great place, Great service, knowledgeable person, Great selections. Why would you want to go anywhere else. I cannot imagine a better store, with a better selection, combined with the service provided. Now all I need to do is move out of the city, to long Island or New Jersey and I can have as much guns as the law allows. :-). read more

Bruce is all about great traditional customer service. Hunters essentials is a small shop, i am guessing this is part business and part hobby for him. Prices are also reasonable, Bruce is willing to negotiate slightly, even for new items. Other shops will just give you a dirty look and the take or leave attitude. Just remember to give him a call before visiting, as he is the only one runs the place, hours can be a little odd. read more

I am writing this on behalf of my boyfriend because he does not have a yelp account. This is probably the second or third time we've dealt with Bruce. The reviews don't lie, this place has exceptional customer service. Very friendly people behind the desk, they seem to enjoy what they do.

I needed to sell my husband's Walther PPK/S. I live in New York City and was being given the run around by the gun stores here. Bruce was courteous, considerate and very knowledgeable about what I needed to do. He, also, gave me a good price for it. If I ever need to recommend this type of store I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hunter's Essentiels. Thanks for your help. read more

I would highly recommend Hunters and Bruce! Needed ammo for a hunting trip this weekend so Bruce accommodated me by opening his store on Thanksgiving. That is customer service above and beyond -even when I told him it could wait until the next day Bruce insisted on supplying me the ammo in prep for my trip. Would highly recommend. Great guys! Happy holidays! read more

I always had a fantastic experience with this establishment. The owner is a very nice guy who will go above and beyond to help a customer. He has done so for me when I had to leave my firearm there longer than I expected before picking it up for an inspection. He conducts all necessary paperwork and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to his business. To date, it's the only place I go when I require ammunition or accessories. Highly recommended and I would love more people to bring their business here. Another added touch is that there is plenty of parking because the surrounding area is residential. read more

The owner Bruce, is really patient and fielded a lot of questions from me, a newbie that didn't even purchase his firearm there. In fact, he took pains as to not embarrass me about not knowing anything about the sport. He helped me with my stance, my grip advised me about eye and ear protection. He explained the limitations of my permit in Nassau county, what ammunition I should buy, much more so than the mandatory course I took. Ive all ready decided that Hunters Essentials is my go to guy for all firearms related issues. In addition to being a first class FFL and a gentleman, Bruce is also a gunsmith and is going to handle the delicate job (like with a hammer!) of changing my sights. Recommended. DH P.S. Hunters Essentials is around the side of 900 Willis, you can miss it when you drive by. There is free parking. read more

I wish I could give this little gun shop more than 5 stars. Bruce is a knowledgeable and HONEST guy. These are qualities that are almost impossible to find in this business. No attitude (the kind you find in some gun shops), just good friendly service. read more
