I came to purchase a phone charger but I didn't bring my REI CC to redeem my points for a reduced purchase or free even. I am fond of this store due to the selection of costs on display. I love this REI and feel lucky to have one so close to me. I stopped in today to pick up an order and see that they have updated the layout once again! The store feels more airy and easier to find what dept you want, at a glance. I love that they have member sales quite often, and also a great selection on clearance racks for bargain hunting! I was going to be late picking up my order and Mark was super kind and patient and helped me out. Today, Allison helped find my orders with a great deal of patience! Stopped into the REI on Clove Road with a friend, and I was really impressed. The store is spotless, super clean, well organized, and fully stocked with everything from hiking gear to everyday outdoor essentials. Neat gadgets! The staff was genuinely helpful without being pushy. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and clearly knew their stuff, which made finding what we needed really easy. Prices felt fair for the quality, and the selection REI offers good value overall and especially with REI's membership perks. A nice shopping experience. Hubby was in heaven just being here. Browsing, looking for future outdoor needs and bought a simple souvenir for todays visit. The store is not as big as like other retail location but still there are huge options for sporty merchandise and gears. Section area is properly marked, merchandise are clearly labelled with its prices and clearances and on sales are easily identifiable. Store associates are helpful . Part of what I do for a living is evaluating and assessing a person's foot and ankle for choosing a proper supportive shoes. So, you can probably imagine how elated I am when my adult son asked me to help him select a good hiking shoes that he needed for his upcoming hiking adventure. The very first place that I thought of going with my son is this place. So off we went to this store. They have a large parking lot in front of their store. They are well organized on where they store the stuff that they sell so it was easy enough for me and my son to spot where the hiking shoes are. They sell high quality and reliable hiking shoe brands. I explained to my son the factors that he has to consider for good hiking shoes. We received good and knowledgeable service from the sales person in charge of the shoe area, he is well-informed, confident and experienced on what he is selling and suggesting, as he was explaining to my son the ins and outs of a good hiking shoe, I did not cut him off as I am very aware that all the information that he was giving regarding a good shoe was all correct. I commend REI for hiring such a very helpful employee and I also commend the salesperson for his patience, honesty and kindness in making my son's decision to chose the right shoe much easier. My husband love the outdoor product lineup of REI so much and we did lots of shopping before quarantine. We placed an online order and selected curbside pick-up at this location. The decor is wide-spaced, bright and sporty. The shopping experience there was pretty cozy and we would like to stay longer. The customer service was super friendly, helpful and supported the pick-up quickly. The return policy is also super great that we can return within one year if we are not satisfied with their products. It's a bit tricky to find the store in this strip mall wasteland, but once you do, it's great. It's enormous and they have all the outdoorsy stuff I need. Unfortunately, REI charges a steep price to return items ordered online, so I stopped by on my way to Brooklyn. Everyone follows social distancing inside. I found it easy to navigate. I tried on the pants that I ordered. (Based on the measurements listed online, I got XL. Would've returned for L, but tried them on and got M. So the sizing was WAY out of whack.) Rather than having to make a return at a separate counter, I could do the exchange at checkout. The cashier was efficient and friendly. I've also taken a class through this store before. read more

Came here with my boyfriend as he was looking for a mountain bike. Christina, the sales associate was super helpful in helping him find one that was good for his size. She was great in explaining the bike and answering all of his questions and even providing additional information. She let him go for a test drive as well. She did not pressure him into buying it at all, just gave good advice. She was very knowledgeable and nice. The store has a ton of equipment for all activities. All employees are knowledgeable of the product and will answer all the questions and concerns that you have. This is definitely a customer friendly store. Located in Westbury- REI is my go-to spot for my running needs. They carry Hokas, which are currently my go-to running sneakers. I like their return policy! You can actually run in the sneakers you buy and if they don't work for you then you can still return them. A lot of places won't allow you to return worn sneakers. The thing is, with running sneakers sometimes after one run in them they'll hurt your feet and you'll know they don't work for you and then you just spent $160 for nothing. You can't tell by walking around a few feet in a store if they work for you or not. Thank you REI for your awesome return policy. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and they know the products well. The last time I went in to buy new sneakers the guy who helped me had so much knowledge on Hokas since he was just at a conference and knew everything on which one would be great for me. Super helpful. I also like their selections on different fuels to choose from. I've become a huge fan of Honey Stinger so I like that they carry a lot of different flavors. REI isn't just for runners, they carry a huge selection of hiking gear, mountain bikes, cycling gear and they even have beginner survival classes. So if you're looking to go on an adventure trip, stop in here and these experts will set you up with all the right gear. I also got some great hiking shoes from here that are super comfortable that I used for hiking all over Ireland. I have previously bought my winter boarding rack for my car at this place. The person in charge helped me explain which setup I needed and what additional equipment I needed and how each item will be used in the setup. Normally I don't have a problem when I go to this store, but today when I brought my bike in for an adjustment, the employee behind the the counter looked at me like I had 2 heads before I even opened my mouth. There was no greeting (hello, good afternoon), nothing, just a stare. He did make the adjustment, and the problem appears to be fixed (hence the 2 stars). And after returning my bike and telling me what he'd done, he just walked away while I was still checking it out. Not a way to encourage a repeat customer. read more

SHADY OPERATION at this location: Husband went to pick up a cargo box he ordered online and they claimed it had already been picked up. Husband said that's impossible. They checked with the employee who stated that she checked the ID of the man that came to pick it up and it matched my husband's name. Manager reviews the tape from the time of pick up and confirms it's not my husband. At this point there is concern about identity theft so the police are called. Police say identity theft is highly unlikely in this case. Obvious explanation is that this is an inside job. Shady employee tipped someone off and then checked their ID because she knew they were being recorded. Luckily they gave us a better cargo box (hence 2 stars vs. 1) but husband had to wait a long time with our hungry baby during this ordeal. Beware if you order something for pickup at this location. REI has lots of gear for the outdoorsy person inside us. I go here a lot to get hiking gear. I recently came here the last few months to pick up gear for a trip in California. They have a great selection of hiking shoes to try on with various heights of the ankle and features. The associate made sure to fit me correctly, so my hike would be comfortable. They also have a great amount of hiking backpacks that vary in size to meet your needs. They have simple day packs as well as bigger bags with rain covers and more storage. The section to the right they have hiking sticks and air bed pads. There are demo products for you to test them out. What is really great about REI is their membership program. It is a one time fee and you earn dividend cash to spend for next year. They also have 20% off coupons at least twice a year and have their garage sale that you can get a discount on some items. read more

Great store for all your outdoor sports equipment & clothing needs. The brands stocked by REI are of the highest quality (and you'll pay for it too). Whether you need a tent & sleeping bag for camping, a kayak to run the rapids, a new mountain bike, or some new luggage for that Hawaiian vacation, you'll find it here. If you are a regular customer, you should join their dividends membership and get rebates on your purchases. Even though they do not stock ski equipment here (boots, skis, bindings, poles), you can find them on their website and there are usually good deals on closeouts of previous year's models. These items can be ordered on-line, shipped to the store for pick-up and you don't have to pay for shipping! For items that require fitting like ski boots, you can try them on when they arrive at the store. If you don't get a good fit, you don't have to take them and return them for a refund right then and there. It's also my go to place for weekend camping trips and hiking items i need to pick up such as food and supplies/fuel. Awesome place to go to for outdoor gear. One of the better locations in NY since it offers parking. Although this store is smaller compared to the others, I feel it is less crowded and easier to shop. I stopped in after work to purchase a roof box for my car. A gentlemen named Henry assisted me in selecting the appropriate box for me and was very knowledgeable when asking about the differences between each box (Thule vs yakima) was. I ended up going with the yakima sky box 16 as it seemed to be the most bang for the buck. Henry was very professional and even helped me install the box as well! Kudos to you good sir. Horrible service. If you own a snowboard bike skis etc. Do not go there to get it serviced. The staff do not know how to service them. On top of the lack of mechanical knowledge they have horrible costumer service. When I went for a basic snowboard tune up they did a horrible job and where not upfront with the price of it (wich is $55 plus tax without a membership, but they won't tell you that). Overall a bad location, horribly overpriced with terrible costumer service. I went to REI yesterday to look for shoes for my first hiking trip. Billy was helping me out and wow! He was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about all the shoes REI sells. He spent a good amount of time with me to really find a shoe that I would like. Previously I went to REI and bought a pair of sunglasses. There was a slight scratch that I didn't even notice and the cashier informed me and tried to buff it out for a good 3 minutes. The customer service here is unbeatable and everyone that works at REI really knows the outdoor life and knows what they are talking about. Last weekend I decided that I needed to go hiking. You know, that thing where you walk outside, up a mountain or something. But seeing as it had been about 10 years since my camping / hiking heyday, I required a few things. Most specifically hiking socks (you just can't wear cotton socks! That's a big no-no) and a trail map. So I headed over to REI, and I was really impressed. I first walk in, and I'm asked if I need help finding anything. I said I needed socks, and I was pointed over to the sock section. An entire section of socks. I told you socks were important. They have a really huge selection of socks, and I found the perfect pair. Excellent. The socks are over near the camping gadgets, so obviously I start to look at those too. They have all sorts of fun camping gadgets, plenty of things I wish I had when I was a boy scout. Then another person asks if I need help finding something, and I say "yes, trail maps!." So over to the maps we go! They had a pretty good selection for the area around NYC, and I found the one I was looking for. What's a trail map without a compass? They had plenty to choose from, so I picked one of those up to. At this point I'm having a lot of fun, it's a trip down memory lane, so I start wandering around the store saying to myself that I should get back into camping. I pick up one or two other random things, and eventually go to check out. When I get to the counter, a third person asks if I found everything I needed, and I said "sure did!". He tells me that if I become a member, I'll save 10% on all future orders, and get coupons and deals via e-mail. The cost? $20. Now being that I minored in math in college, I knew that meant I would need to spend $200 to make that a good deal. I was about to spend $100 today, and I figured that I'll come back in the future, so I went for it! All in all REI is clean, the people who work there are super helpful, and they have a lot of cool stuff. And don't think you just need to be into the outdoors to come here. It is Grand Opening weekend, but they did a great job stationing a person at each area. Come here for your climbing gear, biking, camping, backpacking, outdoor clothing, hiking shoes, and more! REI, thank you for coming to New York!! (Now, if only I can get a job with them.) I spoke to two REI employees (which I had extensive assistance with) during various visits to the store: - Hiking Shoe Department: The gentleman who assisted me was very helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my questions and bringing me out my shoe sizes promptly, and following up to make sure everything was okay. - Backpack Department: I spoke to Cyntra who helped fit me for the right-sized backpack. She first put on a Gregory contraption that correctly measures your torso for the right pack size. She then chose several packs and had me look at them to see which I liked the most (i.e. access panels, pockets, straps, compartments, hip belt, should harness straps, color, durability, etc.). After, she had me strap it on and put sandbags inside to see how it felt on my hips and my overall comfort. All in the meanwhile, she was very helpful and enthusiastic in her job. She really seemed to enjoy what she was doing, and her enthusiasm really showed that, which I appreciated very much.
