I shopped here for footballs and basketballs for my church children. The sales person who helped me was great. The children wanted different school logos and he was so helpful. At the time I was having balance issues and he asked me if I wanted to try a cane. I told him that this was due to an injury which should improve and that I was too vain for a cane. He suggested an athlete- type stick and fitted one to me. I love it and there is no old lady stigma attached. I love the store! read more

I was called about a job position at the store and during the phone interview the question came up about pay. once I said I had to think about it, the hiring manager rudely hung up the phone. Really nice store. Great location, with awesome surrounding shops. This particular spot has a really fantastic selection and isn't picked over --for example during soccer season. Incompetence at it's finest. I went in to get knee pads and asked a girl who wasn't doing anything if they had any and where would they be. She asked me what kind I needed and I asked what kind they had. She said they only had Volley ball, apparently they DON'T stock the other types listed on the Dick's website in store. She pointed in the wrong direction and I, annoyed, came back and asked her if she could show me (she wasn't doing anything). She didn't even answer, I guess the bleach used to dye her hair had done too much damage, who knows, but another man offered to show me, but then had to call someone to ask where the knee pads were located! I mean why even make me start walking in a direction when you don't even know where it is in the first place. Why didn't the chick who told me the wrong area in the first place just show me. SMH. Even this guy was useless when we finally found the knee pads, he didn't even know the brands, or the difference between the kinds. I was in a hurry so I bought a pair, but the kid ringing me up was scooting himself around on a chair at the counter (wasn't injured - just lazy). I had to wait for him to scoot himself to the register, he apparently thought he was cute. Ugh. I can't even believe the low level of service. I mean why are there 3 people here if they don't want to do anything??? Fire two and lower the prices of the clothes. Go here as a last resort! read more

They have a great selection and that makes it hard to stay away, but, the service stinks. I was interrupted 5 times while trying to talk to a salesperson when other customers just walked up, butted in and dragged her away. She never excused herself or bothered to apologize or anything. I finally gave up and walked out without buying anything and I had over $300.00 worth of merch already in the cart. Really, really poor PR. This was not the first time I had lousy service from that store, but, hopefully the last time I will need to go in there! This is the Durham store I speak of. Very bad business tactics. read more

Standard Dick's Sporting Goods. Nothing super special about the store. The staff was nice and the store was clean, but there was only 1 cashier. We had to wait behind someone doing a return, and a manager had to come to the front of the store and approve. We ended up only buying drinks, but it would have been nice to have someone else at the register. read more

Got a gift card for Christmas and went here for the first time in 8-10 years. Had to get some shoes. The racks were completely disorganized, some boxes were missing price tags, there was detritus (paper, plastic bags) from the shoe boxes strewn around...kind of a mess. The paint on the "running track" area was completely faded. Every Dick's I've ever been to has felt totally understaffed...this place was no different. Stood around for 5 minutes until someone noticed me and helped me out. The place looks exactly the same as I remembered it - that's not a good thing. Nothing looks fresh or updated. It kinda feels like they knew they were the big dogs in the area when this location opened in the late 90's...and they've just been coasting since then. Overall, can you find what you're looking for, at an okay price? Yeah, probably. But it was a pretty mediocre experience. read more

12:54 PM It looks like I'm 2-for-2 so far today when it comes to positive experiences at establishments. I came here about 2 hours ago looking for outdoor sporting equipment that I'll use this summer. I bought 2 Aerobie Pro frisbees, a package of 6 nylon shuttlecocks, a set of 3 wiffle balls, and 2 paddle tennis rackets. My grand total was $80. As the rating indicates, I had a great experience inside of this Dick's. For a sporting goods store, the size of the facility was about average, and contains basically everything you'd ever dream of to satisfy your athletic needs. I'd say the prices were reasonable enough as well. Not low enough to make you want to buy 6 of everything you see, but not high enough to force you to take out a second mortgage on your house just so you can buy a new set of golf clubs. Pretty much mid-level prices. The only item that I thought was too expensive was the set of rackets. $37 for a piece of circular wood attached to a wooden handle seems a bit extravagant. The staff was pretty non-existent, which is terrific. The last thing I want is for my relaxing shopping experience to be tarnished by someone who thinks I need assistance finding stuff at a sporting goods store. Checkout was smooth and painless. Overall, I highly recommend coming here, but for the love of God, lower those paddle tennis racket prices. It earns 4 stars out of 5. read more

What? How can I be the first to review this place - it's been around so long? Foodies don't play sports? It's good for the basic mid-level priced sporting goods. Don't go there expecting high end or specialty equipment. They pretty much cover all the popular sports with both equipment and clothing. The one thing I've noticed in the store is that the customer service isn't great and they are usually understaffed. It is always hard to find a store staffer - whether it is to get a pair of shoes or to checkout. They really need to work on this. Also with Golf Galaxy, Walmart, and Omega in the same shopping center and Play It Again across teh street - there is plenty of opportunity to comparison shop so don't get locked in too quickly. read more

I'm going to give it an A-Ok even though I think I was trailed by security for carrying a big bag. I have a lot of crap, what can I say? But as far as selection goes for fitness apparel this place has a great selection in XS which a lot of stores don't carry. I prefer to use Fleet Feet for footwear though as the service and expertise are next to none. They also carry Lacrosse equipment which I needed to buy quickly and found everything in stock there. The dressing rooms are a bit wonky and I can never get the door to open. The secret, I was told by an employee, is to "yank it really hard"! I got so good at it I had to show other customers how to do it as well. read more

45 min. to pickup an order. I placed several orders, went to pick them up, one was left out which is ok, people make mistakes. I called to let them know that it say that I picked up everything, I was charged for everything, and it was showing that I picked up everything, but in reality one order was left out and not given to me. The first girl I spoke to absolutely no help and transfers me to the manager without even letting me know. The manager tells me 100 time that they gave me everything and that maybe Dick's online charged me too many times but they gave me everything. I told her that one order was place the night before, maybe they left it out. She says no, they fill everything this morning and gave me everything. I place the order the night before at 9:30 pm it was filled this morning at 8:30am . They did fill it, they just forgot to give it to me. After telling me 100 time that I was not supposed to receive the quantity that I was asking for and that they gave me them all; it took 45 min of conversation to get them to even check and when they found the order the order that they had forgotten to give me, she stated it was because it was under a different name. IT WAS NOT. And when she gave me the bag it literally had my name, "COOPER," on it in the biggest boldest letters you can imagine, so why lie. Then her next excuse was it was saying that the order was placed earlier than it was ... IT WAS PLACED EXACTLY WHEN I TOLD HER which AT NIGHT 9:30pm . Nothing but excuses. They simply forgot a bag, it's not that serious and I really would not have cared if they didn't try and tell me so many time that they were correct and that it was someone else's mistake or that I was wrong. In reality it was THEIR mistake, I was CORRECT, it WAS place THE NIGHT (9:30pm) BEOFRE, THEY DID IT THIS MORNING, THE NAME MATCHED THE OTHER ORDERS and THEY MISSED IT AND FORGOT TO GIVE IT TO ME. Simple. My goodness, accountability is not that difficult, instead the manager made excuses that were COMPLETELY and ENTIRE UNFOUNDED ALL THE WAY THROUGH.... AND WAS WRONG. Finally got my last bag after dealing with 45 min. of incompetence. It's SIMPLE, it's not hard to just check and then say "We apologize, we missed an order"..... how hard is that, but it was never said, my goodness...To be clear, my complaint is NOT, not being given an item, it's the fact that I was dismissed and nobody thoroughly checked before telling me I was wrong 100 times and making blatant lies of excuses... read more

Typical Dicks but employees in shoe department really couldn't be any less helpful. Every time I try to buy shoes here I end up going next door to Omega whom at least at act like they care. The people working in Dicks shoe department spend more time looking at their text messages then approaching a customer to see if they need help. Not to mention they have the personality and customer skills similar to a brick. No more shoe shopping here for me. Heading to Omega to spend my money. I have 5 kids also so I shoe shop a lot!!! Good for most sports. If you're a hunter, go somewhere else. They have 3 crossbows, maybe 8-10 compound bows and that's all ages. A nice assortment of shotguns and rifles, but not much for archery except the targets. Drive the extra hour to Garner for Cabelas, Dicks and Bass Pro. You won't have to choose lesser quality because lack of supply. read more

This is my last time shopping at this location. I have been here 3 times in the past 6 months and I can never get anyone to let me or anyone else in my family into a fitting room. A sales associate will look right at me or my daughter, son, or husband, keys dangling around his or her neck, and breeze right on by. It doesn't matter if I've pressed the button. It doesn't matter if the store is dead. Today, after 2 associates ignored me, I called out to the third who reluctantly let me in. Gee, I'm sorry I bothered you in a nearly dead store. I wonder why it's dead? I liked two items and took them to the cash wrap. I said, "Hi, how are you?" to the sales associate. She did not look at me. She just said, "Got a score card?" I do have one, but I just wanted to get out of there, so I said "no." As she rang up my items, I said that I didn't need a bag. She printed the receipt, placed it on top of my items, and immediately turned to talk to another associate. All she said to me that whole time was "Got a score card?" What happened to "hello" or other basic courtesies? I feel sorry for the manager on duty. He did ask if I needed help after I had finished trying things on and was browsing on my way to the register. Though he was clearly busy with a project, he was still courteous and professional. Unfortunately, this family of four will be taking their business elsewhere. I went here to try and buy some shoes. Not only were the employees rude, they were more interested in helping out an attractive female than myself. I felt bad for her as she was clearly uncomfortable. They kind of asked me if I needed anything as if they really didn't want to hear the answer. Asked them for a different size and I get the sigh like I am bothering them. I asked them for another size and the associate just says "Thats all we got" without even looking in the back. I've shopped at this particular Dick's Sporting Goods for several years now and for the most part when going in and purchasing stuff they have in stock have had an ok experience. It's when they have had to special order something is when things go badly. Twice I have purchased rifles there that were advertised on sale but not in stock. The first was for a Christmas gift so it had to be perfect. When it came in we just went and picked up the box, wrapped it, and put it under the tree. When my son opened it on Christmas morning the stock had a big crack in it. We had to take it back to get another ordered. It took well over 2 months to get it back with a new stock. The second time was a similar experience - rifle on sale not in stock. I purchased it on a new Dicks credit account to get a discount. Over a month later it had not come in and I was already getting the credit card bill so I called to check and the clerk said they were back ordered. The second time I called a few weeks later I got the same answer. Finally after 2.5 months I called and talked to a manager. He said he would research and call me the next day. He called back a few days later with the lame excuse that the order was never put fully through to the manufacturer so I needed to come in with my receipt so they could put it through again. I was very mad by this time. No one had checked this previously? Then he had the gall to say I had to be there the next day by 2pm or my order would be cancelled. I purposely waited two days to go in and asked for the manager on duty. When he finally showed up (the same one I spoke to on the phone) he explained the situation again and said we could go to the gun area to see if they had one in stock and if not we could either get a refund or re-order one. He didn't offer to go back there with us, he didn't fully explain what we were to tell the sales clerk back there to ensure we got what we needed. Then he wanted us to come find him if we needed the refund afterwards. Of course, they did not have one in stock so we went back up to the front of the store where he could not be found. A clerk paged him and he told us any clerk could give us a refund. Who does their management and customer service training at Dicks? Are you kidding? He should have gone back to the gun shop with us and bent over backwards to ensure we got what we needed but he didn't give a flying rats #@@ whether we got what we wanted or not.
