I see that a lot of other reviewers are making the classic Dick's joke, so I will try not to beat a dead horse. I promise to try my hardest.
Anyways, this is the OG Dick's location. Out of all of the locations, this one is by far my favorite. Looking back at my numerous visits, I've noticed an interesting pattern. Anytime I visit during the day, there's countless out of towners raving about Dick's and their delectable little burgers. Surprisingly, a lot of them will then have a frantic argument about whether they like the fries. In the end, they'll agree that the fries are certainly unique and order them anyway. I swear it's like clockwork, out of towners always bring these two things up. Because this location is right off i-5, I assume it draws more people from out of town (at least when the Edmond's location wasn't around). That said, UW students staving off a hangover make up the late night crowd. Whether it's frat bros or tech nerds, Dick's at night are a right of passage for UW students. I can't count the number of times my ex-boyfirend (a UW grad student) took me to this very location after a night of drinking on the Ave. Looking back, it seems that the best hangover cure wasn't chugging raw eggs. Some Dick's in the middle of the night will do the trick!
Before moving onto my thoughts on the burgers, fries, and shakes, I should mention that the changes at this location have been for the better. While no one really likes change, adding in the bathrooms and accepting credit cards have been great new additions to this location. Although the new policy regarding credit cards is awesome, there is some sadness to it. Everyone always joked that Seattlities only carried cash because of Dick's. While there was some truth to it, its bittersweet that I no longer have to carry cash for those impromptu visits to Dick's.
At the end of the day, the consistency at Dick's is unmatched by any other fast food joint in Seattle. I don't get why people gamble with McDonald's - they always find a way to screw up your order and their "patties" sit in plastic trays for hours. Even though Dick's churns out specials and deluxes like crazy, I've never had a bad experience. Because they fill so many orders, you know you're fries and burgers are going to be piping hot and have the freshest ingredients. From the way the cheese sticks to wrapper, to the last fry at the bottom of your bag, a Dick's experience is a momentary ascension into heaven.
Regarding the fry debate, I have to say I'm on team "Dick's fries are awesome." There always hot, perfectly salted, and freshly cut. I just don't get the complaints about the fries being limp. They're probably the most unique fries in all of Seattle. Do we need more cookie cutter, straight and bland fries?
People say that Paris is always a good idea. Well I say, Dick's is always a good idea. If you got this far, I'm going to have to apologize, but I love Dick's in my mouth. There, I said it. And no, I'm not really sorry. read more
