After living in the area basically forever, we finally stopped into this "local legend" of a restaurant, the same place so proud of their hotdog that they literally mounted it on the roof like a culinary beacon of hope. We love a good hole in the wall, so we walked in excited and ready to find hidden treasure, but instead were greeted with food so underwhelming we questioned reality. We noticed chicken livers listed, my boyfriend's favorite, so we ordered a ridiculous amount of food to sample everything: livers with onions and "gravy" (which was really just flour water), a strange burger illusion that turned out to be folded gray meat on a bun, an actual burger that tasted like a McDonald's single that had given up on life, and of course, the famous roof-worthy hotdogs. Those hotdogs... whew. They were floppy, wet, cold, flavorless, and deeply sad. The chili tasted like it had somewhere else to be, the slaw was fine, and somehow even the onions had no flavor, an accomplishment in itself. We left wondering if we had actually eaten or just consumed warm, food-shaped disappointment; it was like having COVID and losing your sense of taste all over again. Maybe we just caught them on an off day, but wow, what a day to pick. As my boyfriend put it, "Well, it'll make a turd," and boy did that gray mass of meat rise to the occasion. On a positive note, the ice, the ranch dressing, and our waitress were absolutely fantastic, so credit where credit is due. P.S. Please, for the love of all things edible, take that hotdog off the roof. read more

We were warmly greeted and told to seat ourselves. We ordered the breakfast special and gravy biscuit with bacon. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The bacon was cooked crispy as ordered and the prices were so reasonable. Definitely worth a trip and a stop if you're in or around Eden. read more

Took a little drive to get out of the house and ended up here for lunch. The staff was friendly, took orders efficiently, and got them out to customers ASAP. I was disappointed to see that the wait staff was not wearing masks or gloves in the midst of this pandemic. I ordered two chili cheese dogs and onion rings and my dining partner had a burger and fries. Overall the food was pretty good. If I'm in this neck of the woods again we might stop in. read more

I really wanted to like this place, I appreciate restaurants that have been around for a long time, but this place is serving up sad, bland, flavorless food! I ordered the hamburger steak with fries and macaroni and cheese. Usually when I eat at a hole in the wall restaurant they have really good baked macaroni and cheese. This was not baked, this didn't even have real cheese, they were obviously using canned cheese in their mac and cheese which should be a crime! The hamburger steak literally had no flavor at all, and the hamburger was tough and chewy. It came with cornbread, I asked the waitress if it was sweet cornbread and she said it was, she couldn't have been further from the truth! This cornbread was completely dry and flavorless. I do have to give them extra credit for being nice, the waitress and who I assume was the owner were very friendly, but their food is terrible! Maybe I should have ordered something different, judging by the photos uploaded to Yelp it seems like people only order hamburgers and hot dogs here, that might have been a safer bet! read more

Solid, middle of the road drive in. Serves a nice breakfast, good sandwiches, fries, some plates. The hot dog and cheeseburger were pretty good, but not great. The service is excellent here, and it gets busy on the weekends. This place does much well, just not anything spectacular. I was back in my birthplace for my 80 y/o Mom's wedding, so I *had* to stop by Dick's Drive-In a couple of times. First visit was a cheeseburger w/mustard, chili, slaw (my usual) and fries. Ridiculously good. Second visit was inside the restaurant w/brother and his awesome family. Seeing that Dick's had won "best hot dog in town," I ordered that with "the works" and my usual cheeseburger w/mustard, chili, slaw and fries. Also got some hush puppies for the family to try and some slaw. The hot dog was so vibrantly pink that my nieces recoiled but I devoured every bit of it and everything they delivered. My nieces were skeptical, but said they ended up loving it, which brought me joy. I heart this place. read more

I ordered meatloaf, what I got was ground beef (some of it pink) with onions and and ketchup. No seasoning, at all. Mac and cheese was ok, really heavy and fried squash was pretty good. Didn't realize that this place only takes cash, and to top that, their atm (which surcharges) was broke. While I was here I saw employees eating while fixing food and a kid being allowed to run around in the kitchen. read more

I've been by Dick's a few times, I've never been inside, just pulled up for curb service. I've only had burgers and hot dogs here, if I was only rating them on hot dogs and onion rings I would give five stars, I do like their dogs and rings, especially when they get the onion rings a little extra brown. My most recent visit I had a double cheeseburger, usually the little flat top cooked burgers are great, but this one was a little over done and tough, but still ok. Their sign says it's "The Place To Be Since '63" and boasts that they won the readers choice awards this year for best hotdog, wait staff, family restaurant and best lunch in Rockingham County. They definitely have a lunch crowd each time I've been here. Good spot if you are in the Eden area. read more

Dick's Drive-in is a cool place and a step back in time. I love the big room dining area that has more than a hundred photos of the people from Eden that were in the wars and service. What a cool tribute to this towns service men and women and history. It is an old school drive-in and has some good grub. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. I had the hungryman breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. The home fries are not real home fries and are just ok. I like this place for the oldtime feel and the history and the support of local service men and women. It is not fancy and it is not great food - but it is good food and had good people working here. The marquee at Dick's Drive In boasts that they have the best hot dog in Rockingham County as voted by its citizens. I don't see how. I would strongly urge these voters to make the 20 minute drive to Johnson's Family Grill in Madison, also in Rockingham County, where a truly excellent hot dog can be found. I am certain they will vote differently next time. My hot dog was served with cold chili, so I asked for a replacement. The replacement came out with lukewarm chili, which was average tasting at best. The slaw tasted pretty good but was a little too wet. The real problem, perhaps, was the hot dog itself, which had little flavor, and what flavor there was was not good. The fries tasted old. The onion rings were very tasty but leaned greasy. The large burger was not that large, but the bun was. The patty was flattened out to try to make it appear larger, but this just made for a poor burger-to-bread ratio. The cheese was literally a half slice of American cheese and not fully melted. I had high hopes for Dick's but was sorely disappointed. Dick's slogan is "The place to be since '63". My review below was removed after having been posted for over 2 years. The message I received stated I must have... "reviewed the wrong restaurant". Find this rather weird. Ended up trying this place twice while in the Eden area. Nothing seemed to click during my visits. Both times my meals were subpar. Sadly. Texans are particular about their meat. Happened to be in this little berg one evening so we decided to stop in as the place is definitely 'Old Skool'... right down to the drab beige and brown paint. Rustic to be sure. Special that night was a porterhouse steak with a couple of sides and salad. First course was the lettuce which had to be sent back because the brown on the leaves matched the decor. Steaks arrived which where about a 1/4 inch thick and mine had a lump of fat the size of a Zippo lighter squarely in the middle of the beef. Motioned the owner over and pointed out the high fat content and the fact this really didn't look like a porterhouse to me. "Ohh... we ran out of the porterhouse cuts, that's a ribeye", he tells me. Received another steak, ate it, and left. Keep driving to the Circle Drive-In down the road. read more

This place is a great little attraction you have to stop by, if you're in the area. The food is pretty good, but the main attraction is that it's an actual Drive-In, not like Sonic, but you get a person that comes and takes your order and brings it out to you. If the Drive-In area is crowded, you have to honk your horn to get one of the waitresses attention, otherwise, you might be sitting there a while without them taking your order. They have soft serve ice cream, which is great on Summer evenings, just sitting in your car, enjoying some ice cream. They only accept cash payments. read more

Well I ate breakfast here this weekend, and it was horrible!!! The gravy was really bland, and nasty. The biscuits don't even look or taste homemade like the menu suggest. The waitress failed to tell us that cheese was extra, and also the hash browns were nasty!!! I make 100 % better homemade fried potatoes/hash browns at home for breakfast. The best thing on the plate was the bacon, and sausage. Also the dining area needs to be cleaned, and kept up more than it is, if it even is. People that work here are not very friendly either. I had also witnessed the cooks in the back eating while preparing customers food, and opening doors for the waitresses, all while wearing the same gloves, that were used to cook! This was my first time eating here in 17 years, and it was the last!!! read more

If you love hotdogs, hamburgers, and fires, then Dick's Drive In would be definitely the place to go! It has wonderful good American food. The food is always warm and very tasteful. It's also very convenient because you don't have to always go inside the restaurant, you can pull up and one of waitress will come out and get your order then bring your food out to you. The employees are always friendly and understanding. I've have ate here ever since I was small and it always has been one of my favorite places to go to eat. Of course almost every restaurants has it's downfalls though. Usually when you drive up and order food, it can take a very long time to get your food out to you. Other than that, it's a wonderful restaurant and I highly recommend people to eat here. read more

I do NOT recommend going to Dick's Drive-In in Eden NC. The owner, Terry, claims to be a christian but the place is run un-christian like. The waitresses take forever to wait on you and usually get the order wrong. Last night, Dec 15 2017, I waited 35 minutes and no waitress came to the car. I blew the horn every time she passed by but was ignored. I pulled up to the door and held the horn down until someone came to the car. She asked to take my order and I said no. I told het to tell the manager what all had happened. She made a mean face and walked away. I went home and called them and told the manager and they said next time just come inside. I said no, the purpose of the drive-in is to be waited on in the car. This type of incident has happened 3 times. I have always been a good customer and tipped well, even though the food is high priced and not that good. I will never go there again. read more
