We used this Dickey's location to cater a small event we hosted this weekend for friends. We love Dickey's in Tucson and have used them for catering dozens of times, but this was our first time ordering/having food from the Pinetop-Lakeside Dickey's. I was, quite frankly, a little hesitant when I read some of the reviews online, but decided to give it a go since we have yet to find a really great place on the mountain for pulled pork or brisket. There are certainly plenty of choices for barbecue (that and Mexican food) up here in the area, but we haven't been super impressed with the flavor or moistness of the meat from any one of them. So, I called the restaurant and spoke on the phone with a young man named Aaron. I told him that I had some reservations about using them because of some of the online reviews, but that I was willing to give them a go and was counting on them to deliver a delicious meal that would impress my guests with the flavor, quality and quantity of food. I mean, really, what's more embarrassing than hosting a party and having the food be bad or even just mediocre? Or worse than running out of food?) Aaron assured me that the food would be delicious; that our guests would like it, and that there would be plenty of it. He was very polite and took quite a bit of time with me on the phone, so I decided to put my trust in them to deliver great food. Oh, my gosh, are we glad that we gave this Dickey's location a shot!?!? The food is EXCELLENT!!! The meats were ALL so flavorful and so moist, tender and delicious. every one of our guests LOVED the food! The chicken had the perfect hint of smokiness that good barbecue should have and was tender enough to cut with a plastic fork. The brisket was juicy and flavorful. The pulled pork was delicious and was not at all dry; as pulled pork can sometimes be. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and had just the right amount of richness to the cheese sauce. The "wings" we're not really wings, and were rather more like a big chicken nugget, but it was all moist, tender white meat and they were much easier to eat than your typical chicken wings. The guests really seemed to love them. No one had any complaints or negative comments about the food at all. Everyone asked where we had gotten the food, They all said that they had not tried this Dickey's location. or even any Dickey's, and would definitely now be going there on their own. The employees we spoke to on the phone were all very polite and very helpful. A woman called the day of the party to confirm my order and clarify a couple of things. She made a couple of suggestions, which I followed, and which actually turned out to be the right choices to enhance my order. I thought that it was excellent customer service and showed attention to my order to call on the morning of my party, just to go over everything on my order. After working 15+ years in customer service in public relations, I can recognize and appreciate when I am receiving good service. I found out later than she and her husband own the restaurant. The person who delivered the order, Robert, turned out to be her husband. He was great and helped me to get things set up in my chafing pans. I enjoyed talking with him while we worked. It turns out that he is a veteran with 22 years of service in the infantry, which is really impressive and, I believe, shows the content and strength of his character. We have nothing but the utmost of gratitude and respect for anyone who serves, or has served, in our military or as first responders, so I was very glad to know that we were supporting a veteran-owned business. Everything about our interactions with this Dickey's location was perfect. The customer service, the attention to detail and the quantity, quality and flavor of the food were all fabulous and far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be using them again for catering and will, I am sure, become frequent visitors to their restaurant. Had an unpleasant experience at Dickey's today. Party of 3 with a check amount of $39.75. Had an issue with the smoked turkey being dry and some pieces were hard. The cuts were also unacceptable. I pointed this out to the employee and requested a refund for the turkey which would have been about $2.50. I was told a refund wasn't possible but they would replace the item with something else but that wasn't an acceptable option for me. Anyway, going forward, if I ever eat there again, I will determine the food quality prior to making payment and suggest everyone visiting this location do the same. Dickey's isn't a low cost food choice and they should pay more attention to what they serve their customer to avoid this in the first place. I won't make this mistake again. Came in and ordered 3 plate for me and 2 plate for wife, ribs they said needed another 10 minutes which is fine if we got other 2, the brisket and sausage girl took from plastic container that had all the left over meets bunched together, brisket was cold, chewy, and taste was off even with barbecue sauce, same for sausage, dry and cold, finally brought the ribs and they were hot but not cooked throughly and meat was hard, tasted off. Been to Dickeys at least 20 times in Phoenix and never experienced this kind of bad, cold, uncooked, chewy food. Will never go to Dickeys in Lakeside-Pinetop again. read more

We've tried many Dickies over the years and it seems hit or miss at many lately. This was our first time trying the Show Low location and it was a "hit". Smoked Turkey was moist and tender, and brisket was a good mix of fat and lean with just a few overdone pieces. We're going back tomorrow (with our Big Yellow Cup). read more

The term "good eats" doesn't get passed around too much anymore but this place is terrific. Friendly staff, clean tables with a busy menu but there's a lot to choice from. Everything I've tried has been delicious almost to the point that I might give up cooking. I'm updating my original review to 4 stars. Management responded quickly to my review, and seems to care about customer concerns (most establishments don't say anything). I didn't mention the quality of the food in my previous review, but it was excellent! I had the baked potato with pulled pork, and it was delicious! We decided to order our meat from Dickeys tonight. After picking up two 1/2 lb. orders of meat, I realized the sliced brisket we ordered had been mistakenly substituted with some type of chopped up pork. My husband went right over and got the sliced brisket we should have gotten. They had no problem providing us with the correct item. At home, when we looked at the contents of the container, we were disgusted with the big blobs of fat we had to pick out. No bark was on any of the meat we could eat. All the bark was on the fat layer. It was really unfortunate. We will not be going back. The prices are high and yet, they do not know how to prepare good quality barbecue. read more

I used to live in Dallas and fell in love with Dickie's. They've been in business for 80 years and there a reason for it: the barbecue is the best. Not only is this, by an order of magnitude, better than any barbecue anywhere near Pinetop, it is instantly one of the best meals in Pinetop anywhere. Five meats, 13 sides, a dozen sandwiches. Wow! You haven't lived till you've had the fried okra, always cooked fresh to order. And the most flavorful Mac and cheese anywhere. All the sides are outstanding. I dare you to limit yourself to two! I put off doing a review for a few days because I try to be nice. I had high hopes for this restaurant as by brother is always talking about about the chain down in Phoenix. I eat a lot of bbq, all around the country, as you can see by my other reviews. I had really hoped for great bbq close to home. I tried multiple meats and was pretty disappointed. The ribs were as dry as beef jerky and I had to tear them apart like jerky. I had to leave quite a bit of meat on the bone because It was literally baked on and I couldn't pull it off. The brisket had a good flavor, but again it was tough and dry. Finally, I had the pulled pork, which was also dry. I had to add a lot of sauce to be able to eat it. They also hadn't shredded it completely, so I had to use a knife to cut apart pulled pork. I'll give it 3 stars instead of 2, because the service was friendly and it is clean and convenient. I really hope that the reason that the quality wasn't great was because they are new and not experienced with bbq. I'll give it a few months and try again to see if they get any better. read more

Cool looking place but it has quite a few problems. First of all, it has some very confusing doors. The two front and first side door are locked for some reason with the last side door being the only one unlocked. I watched three senior citizens try opening the first two doors before giving up and leaving. On top of this issue, the workers also got my order wrong and charged me 18 dollars for a sandwich and 2 sides I didn't even order. Once I received my food, one of the ribs was as black as my meemaw's teeth and resembled a hockey puck. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE FROM DICKEY'S RESTAURANT!! I PAID & NEVER RECEIVED MY ORDER! An order was placed their website dickeys.com for the Lakeside Arizona location on 7/14/22 at 18:32 pm. The website had the option of free delivery which was chosen. My order was the 2 for 32 which can only be "purchased online". My total was $40.46 which included the tip. Payment option I used was PayPal. My PayPal account showed the purchase transaction went through, however the website said I had an invalid phone number and it took me back to the ordering page. I logged into my PayPal account and it showed that I was indeed charged $40.46 from Dickey's Barbecue Restaurant Inc. I called the Lakeside restaurant to confirm that they received my online order since I was paid. They said they did not receive my order even though I paid. I spoke to the manager and he confirmed that their computer system did not have my order or any type of payment received. I explained the situation of ordering online off of Dickeys.com, selecting "free delivery" and having a confirmed payment transaction on PayPal. I was informed, their location uses a third party vender for their deliveries (Door Dash) and I would have to contact them to get the issue resolved. The rationale behind this is when free delivery is chosen on their website- the payment goes to their third party vender. Dickeys.com DOES NOT LIST in their website they use a third party vender for their deliveries! Dickey's Restaurant did not even TRY to honor this paid transaction that was MADE on their website!! So, I called the number that I was provided for Door Dash from the Dickey's manager. The Door Dash representative said that they have no transaction history of my paid order from the Dickey's restaurant in Lakeside & I would need to resolve the issue with Dickey's since the PayPal transaction occurred with them. My PayPal account SHOWS Dickey's Barbecue Restaurant Inc was paid for my online order on 7/14/22, but according to their system and to their "third-party vender delivery service", my food order and payment were never received & never happened. I have submitted a complaint about this incident to Dickey's Barbecue Restaurant and I have also reported a problem of never receiving my purchase for this payment transaction on my PayPal account. It's disgusting that I had to deal with this type of treatment on a vacation. Having never been there before, we visited the Pinetop location. I ordered the kielbasa sausage, Caesar salad & green beans plate ($13.99) 1 meat, 2 sides, comes with a roll . It's served on a metal tray, with a brown paper liner. The meat is just warmed, under a lamp & put on the liner. No plate. Green beans & Caesar salad both served in A CUP. Yes, the salad is served in a cup, with a lid. No plates. I returned my meal, because the meat was nowhere NEAR food service temperature. Not remotely hot. The green beans were literally from a can, warmed. I've never taken a picture of my meal before, but I wish I had this time. My husband & I paid $30.00 for 2 meals. What a waste of money. We could've bought frozen dinners & eaten just as well. read more

I was disappointed by our experience. We ordered for take out. It was easy to do online and our food was ready right on time. But, when I arrived at the restaurant, none of the staff were wearing masks. I understand that not everyone thinks the pandemic is a big deal (or even real) and what the owners or employees do in their personal time is their business. However, the state has mandated masks in all restaurants for customer safety. Ignoring that rule feels no different than telling employees they don't need to wash their hands because soap doesn't kill all germs anyway. At the very least, the restaurant should disclose that they aren't following the mandate so customers can make the decision for themselves. I'd have been fine if, at the very least, the people at the front of house who handled the pickups were wearing them even if kitchen staff weren't since the CDC does not believe food can be a source of infection. Then, when we got home my husband's order was wrong and he had a bone in his meal that shouldn't have been there. It's was our favorite go to in the white mountains. We had two visits where our food was just so so but today was our last. We ate lunch early ordered our regular 2 meat plates. The brisket was very dry they no longer have there creamed spinach so we ordered the Mac and cheese. It had the day old reheated texture not creamy at all. We had to return our salad twice because of black slimy lettuce. No dates on the cups with lettuce. As we were leaving we noticed the girls throwing out a tray of the lettuce in a cup. I've been to Dickey's eight times since they opened. I've tried something new each visit. Every meal has been excellent and at great value. I love the refill cups too. The pulled pork sandwich with onion tanglers and BBQ beans is my favorite. The atmosphere is very rustic but new and clean. The owner is a military veteran and his staff is very friendly. Highly disappointed in this place. Lots of people talked it up but either they have no taste buds or they have never had good BBQ. I got the 2 meat plates with two sides for $13.99, I got the marinated chicken and the brisket with coleslaw and Mac and cheese. The brisket was dry, my man and cheese literally tasted EXACTLY like Stouffer's macaroni and cheese you get in the frozen food section. They gave me a biscuit and it reminded me of the cardboard I was served in junior high cafeteria. My husband had two pulled pork sandwiches which were $3 each and they consisted of more meat on one sandwich then I received on my entire $14 plate! I'm sure you guessed by now I was not happy with what I received. I won't be back here again, the only thing that I enjoyed was their marinated chicken. Worst service ever! Never have had such a bad experience. Manager/ owner is a complete Karen. So my husband and I decided to pick up some Dickey's for our family after running some errands. We frequent the NorthwestTucson location and we were excited about the Pinetop-Lakeside location. Given the current pandemic situation we planned to order from our car and have them bring it out - but my coffee had a different idea and I ended up going in to use the restroom. I went to use the restroom and the manager/ owner confronted me saying it was for paying customers- she went into explicit detail about fecal matter and was being vulgar and absurd, but I shrugged it off and I showed her my phone and said I was currently placing the order- at that time my order was completed except the payment- but cell service isn't great up here and the payment wouldn't finished processing. Frustrated with my cell service and uncomfortable because the manager was very combative and rude, I finished using the restroom and came out to get in line and place my order at the counter- my husband even brought me in my purse since I only had my phone. I was oblivious when I came in trying to complete the order on my phone, and trying get to a restroom. When he came in he noticed none of the staff even the ones preparing the food were wearing masks. On their website and on Yelp they indicate masks are being used- or I wouldn't have come in. My husband has asthma pre-COPD and my son has asthma- there was no way I was risking their health. I could have walked out, they falsely advertised safety standards they are not following- but I felt bad and decided to just "give" them money. I ordered not one, but two items and very politely informed the cashier that I didn't actually need to food and I couldn't take it because nobody was wearing a mask. The owner heard this and came over and started yelling at me that I didn't have to come in- that all I wanted to do was use the restroom. I tried to explain that it is for the health and safety of my family, and that we had wanted to eat there but can't because of health standards. Manager Karen is irate -she said they don't have to wear masks because it's too hot back there (in an air conditioned restaurant), she said her and her entire staff had medical exemptions. She then yelled some more about me just coming in to use the bathroom and threatened to call the cops on me. Note: The cashier at this point still has my debit card- so I obviously was willing to buy something... she had no reason to be mad. I am offended - I told her that's ridiculous- there is a pandemic and people are dying. If other restaurants can operate and wear them her staff can as well. Still irate the manager Karen continued to berate me and threaten more to call the cops. I told her to go ahead. I still had the order I was going to place saved on my phone- she then started ranting about being able to refuse service to anyone. I said please do- give me my card back. The owner told her cashier to not run my transaction and I walked out and ordered from Johnnys pizza down the street. Normally Dickie's is a great franchise but this one is either owned or managed by a truly disgusting specimen of humanity- manager Karen. read more

I wasn't expecting much but was starving ad wanted meat! I wasn't thrilled when ordering, but everything came together after I got my tray. I went to get the BBQ sauce and it was HOT. I don't mean spicy, but served in a warmer hot! what a brilliant idea. This means I don't have to put cold sauce on my warm brisket. then I saw a vanilla soft serve ice cream maker, and asked how I got in on that action, and the answer? Zero stars if I could! Husband went to pick up BBQ, drive was 20 minutes there and 20 minutes back. They were out of Caesar salad. Forgot the potato salad, coleslaw and BBQ beans. We just had meat and buns for dinner. Called at least 10 times only to be transferred to voicemail or answered and hung up on. During this time, businesses that are still open should strive for excellence. This was going to be my MILs meal for the next week. Paid 73.14 total for only half the things we ordered. Very disappointed. Will never return to this establishment!!!! Can't even pick up the phone to make it right. If you do order pick up make sure your order is correct. Immediately when you walk in you notice the Huge tv screen menu. The atmosphere is welcoming and has a rustic modern feel. We decided as a family to have the family pack which was 2lbs of meat, three medium sides and 6 rolls. Kids on Sundays eat for free but my kids didn't like the kids menu so we opt for the family pack. While waiting in line I downloaded the Dickeys App and was able to get a free yellow cup and downloaded my receipt for points. WE chose the beef brisket and ribs. We were told that the ribs were going to be weighed with the bones which was ok by us. For the sides we got the potato salad, creamy spinach and waffle fries. We sat down in this spacious room. We got our own drinks, plates/tray, plasticware and napkins. First bite was the ribs. Boy was it hard, I had trouble chewing it off the bone. It was jerky like there was about 8 ribs total, brisket was shredded apart and very dry. The sauce was very salty but didn't notice it that much after pouring some spicy BBQ sauce over it. The potatoe salad was meh, creamy spinach was good, waffle fries was good. The rolls were kind of doughy, store bought consistency. After we finished we enjoyed some free yummy ice cream. Over all the employees were nice, the decor and atmosphere was nice but the food... meh. I was expecting some GOOD/AWESOME BBQ but was left disappointed. Not sure why all the bad reviews because I think it's pretty good. I had the kielbasa and brisket with mac and cheese and waffle fries. My wife had chicken, ribs with Cole slaw and baked potato casserole. All were delicious and juicy. My wife raved about the baked potato casserole. Ordered from the app and had no issues.
