The unassuming façade of the Russell Court Hotel doesn't give any hint of what lies within. What's behind those doors is a huge, labyrinthine bar that winds upstairs, downstairs, inside, outside through throngs of people dressed in office wear or party clothes, depending on what time it is. Dicey Reilly's, commonly called Dicey's is this vast partyland I speak of, and it can be a very fun place. On Wednesday nights all pints are 2 euros, on Thursday, 3. As a result, these two nights have become major events at Dicey's and from around 7 PM onward it's bumping. Every other night of the week is way more expensive though, so I would advise to make Dicey's your standard Weds/Thurs spot, but steer clear otherwise! You can call ahead and reserve a table, and if you do so you get to skip the already reasonable 5 euro cover. As such, it's a great place to come with a big group of friends or coworkers. Once inside, you enter a nice bar straight away, but keep on moving toward the excellent beer garden. It's surrounded on all sides by seating areas that are mostly covered and actually very swanky, with lit glass walls with embedded tvs. The middle is populated with many, many heat lamps, that make even the chilliest night pretty toasty in Dicey's. Upstairs is for people with reserved tables only, but if you get one up there you get free food (it's not that great, mostly chips, onion rings, hush puppies and other fried bits) and a nice view of the garden. The crowd differs depending on time of night. Early on, there are tons of people fresh out of the office wearing suits, skirts and heels. Later on, around 11 it becomes totally packed with students, who are also pretty dressed up because apparently Dicey's is fancy dress only. I do not know what to say about this place and I have even been here twice. It is a strange place. Great deals on Tuesdays. The place was so crowded that I could not really get a good look at the place when I first entered and I ended up in one of the back rooms of the bar which was a little less noisy and a lot less crowded. There I noticed a beautiful townhouse feel with high ceilings and elegant decor. A strange look for a night club/bar where it is filled with energetic and dancing Brazilians. The deals on Tuesdays are great and it makes you want to stay a bit longer if you could drink beer all night. Unfortunately I can only drink so many beers. I recently went here for a staff Christmas party and as far as I am concerned I will never be returning due to the unprofessional and incompetence of the security. Firstly, I arrived and attempted to place my coat and bag into the cloak room. At which point the girl on the cloak room could not work the till. She didn't seem in any rush whatsoever to get any help. Eventually after some time she called a member of security to get her help. After learning the skills of how to work the till she then proceeded to tell me she had no change and was insistent that i would have to go to the bar to get change. Is customer satisfaction not priority. We had a private function room which was decorated for the festive season. We required a stamp for access to this room so I went outside to get the necessary stamp where I was cheekily asked for a free pass to my place of work. Despite this being in jest, it is unprofessional. Afterwards, my colleagues and I began to mingle with the rest of the club. My thoughts were with the hotel customers who were in rooms above trying to sleep. The music was so loud and the sound was fluctuating through out the night. I might add that I was not drinking. Mineral drinks were 3.30€ which on this particular night were only 20cent cheaper than alcoholic drinks. Should they not be encouraging nondrinkers who have to drive home?! Near the end of the night, two of my colleagues realised their coats were missing, one which contained a wallet and Ipod. My colleague and his friend approached a member of your security to inform him of the missing coat and other items and were requesting security check CCTV footage, to see if they could find out if the coat had been accidentally removed. The security guard refused. One of my friends who remained calm was removed from the club once they asked for the police. The security were violent at this stage on my friend who was completely peaceful while talking to them. They were so violent that I had to call the police to this location. I approached a member of security who was at the function room door. I informed him of what I had just witnessed by one of his security colleagues on my friend. I asked to be let out into reception of the Russell Court Hotel to make a phone call to An Garda Síochána. He accused me of being drunk despite not having a unit of alcohol and attempted to persuade me that I had not seen what I had witnessed. He then told me to exit through another door which was located within the club and entered directly into reception of the Hotel. When I approached that door, the security man there also refused to allow me out to make the phone call. I made the phone call to the police within the club where the lady at the other end could barely hear me. I went outside to wait with my friend who had been assaulted to wait for the police. The temperature was in the minus figures. I attempted to reenter the club to retrieve my coat and bag from the cloak room. The security guard who had been abusive towards my friend, refused me reentry after over hearing me inform my friend I had phoned the police. The security guard said to me that I had 'no hope of getting back in tonight after calling the police on him.' My other friend whose coat had gone missing was allowed reenter the club and he retrieved my belongings from the cloak room. I find this totally unacceptable that I was left to freeze in such temperatures while I waited on the police. While outside I also witnessed a security guard spit at another customer that had nothing to do with my situation. It is without saying that these security staff are in a profession which requires them to be aware of the laws when dealing with the public. Therefore, they should have a correct way of dealing with issues other than assaulting innocent customers who have initially asked for their help. Needless to say after this event I will not be returning to this premises where the security are like a pack of wild dogs who can only be so brave when they are as a group!! They are rude and interrupt to rile you. If you get involved do not rise to their bait. Keep cool. However, if you want to avoid this scenario just don't go there. read more

This place is very dangerous, especially if you go on a Thursday when all pints and shots are only 3euro, especially if you get talking to the cute Brazilian barman who then gives you shots for free and especially if you try to dance on the massive marble tables, which are really slippy! Apart from that it is quite good, only a 5euro cover charge, there is an excellent outdoor bar / drink / dancing / smoking area which is great for me as I don't smoke yet this area was a great place to hang out, unlike other cramped, dirty, smoke filled areas! The place itself is huge and the people where really quite friendly and didn't seem to mind when I bumped and fell into them! I have no idea what music they played and I don't know what time they kicked me out at, but over all an excellent night! read more

I have drank here several times recently, and have always, without fail, had an altercation with the very rude staff. They do not seem to value customers whatsoever, and have harangued female colleagues over placing their bags on the floor, or myself for moving a seat from one table to another which had absolutely no implications on anyone else in the bar. Also it get's incredibly packed due to the drinks offers (the only good thing about this dive), so much so getting a drink can take over 10 minutes. There is usually huge queues due to a strong after work crowd, so avoid rocking up between 5-7. There is a strong foreign element, there was literally hundreds of spanish students there, presumably due to the cheap drink. If you're looking for a good pint this is not the job. The place is packed to the rafters with 18-20 year olds only drinking (spilling) breezers, double vodka redbulls and jager bombs which leads to the Guinness tasting like a lucozade and the toilets smelling of sick. The place itself is a complete let down, you wont get a seat and you wont be able to have a conversation without shouting at each other like a mentalist as the DJ bangs out the latest from the black eyed peas and its raining men hallelujah as loud as he can. Added to the fact the staff and security are notorious for being the most unpleasant and unreasonable in Dublin. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

There is usually a cover here, every night which is annoying. They do have some good drink specials though, and I wasn't expecting much at all after getting off a flight on a Monday night, but afterwards we visited this place nearly every/every other day. Great place to go late night especially. Other than that, THIS PLACE IS HUGE (when they open all of their bar/club/patio areas) on certain nights. The line also gets to be long, but they're collecting cover, and it moves fast. They play good music between electronic/dance and top 40. My favorite night was on a Wednesday where they had a fast live drummer that was right on the beat to all their songs - a daft punk song came on and he could not have been more spot-on. They also have some subpar DJ's playing live, but not every night. There's a lot of security, spilled drinks, and usually a huge crowd during their late hours. Nice dance areas downstairs and upstairs, and multiple bars. Bartenders are usually swamped but they move somewhat fast considering how packed they are. read more

Extremely rude door staff. I've never been to this place before, but for some reason the door staff thought I had been. He then started to talk to me as if I had been, which started to confuse me because I didn't know what he was talking about. So he started to talk to me as if i were a child. After I pointed out that I've never been here before, the doorman refused to let me in. So basically, because the doorman thought I'd been here before when I hadn't, he wouldn't let me in. I come here nearly every week for their lunch/dinner menu as it is near my college. On a Wednesday I always get chicken stir fry as I find it the most delicious on the menu. For a price of €5 with a valid student card you can't go wrong with it as it fills you up for the day. They sell their drinks at a very cheap price comparing to pubs and clubs around that harcourt/Camden street area. However whenever I go there for a night out I always tend to be waiting to get a drink for a while then end up wearing most of it as it always packed, which is good in a way but also terrible when trying to get served. Some of the staff are really friendly and nice then there are others who look as if they hate the place. Overall I'm pleased with the food they serve and the price of both the food and drinks, would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cheap lunch/dinner option. read more

It's a great place to have fun in the first floor. There is a second floor and if you don't know the security guy you don't be able to go to there, because you have to know the security guy, even you want to pay you are not to be able to do it. The security guy (who is Brazilian) just allow people how give money directly to him (behind the scenes) or who is drug dealers. If you ask to how work to go upstairs he put you away from the club. Gah. Confession time, despite my student status I've only been here once. I brought some American friends when they were visiting; I had intended to give them the Coppers treatment but it was 2am and Coppers was still 15 euro on a Thursday...no thanks. Here was 5 euro in which obviously is much better. There weren't any great drinks deals but I do remember having a couple of jagerbombs. The place is really quite cool, it doesn't feel like somewhere in Dublin. It's also cool, as someone said, that the dancing is in the smoking area, because that way you don't have to be separated from your smoker friends (or take up smoking temporarily). That said, the crowd is young and messy and the music is GODawful. Most of my friends go here only on Sundays because of the 2 euro drinks, but I've kind of outgrown that phase of life so I won't be rushing back. read more

I used to go to that place very often last year... the usual Wednesday and Thursday nights for their very good prices (2.50€ a drink on Wednesdays, 3€ on Thursdays)... but then for some reason I stopped and started convincing myself that it was not good... I went back last week (after a year of absence ;-) as my very good friend wanted me to meet her there... and Good Lord!!! how on earth did I not go to that place anymore??? Big mistake! I had an amazing night!!! And I was sober that's how good the night was... I danced all night (usual hip hop/pop hits that we all like.. come on! You know you like to shake the booty on it!!) Yes it is a bit crowded but still nice for a week night, people are cool, the beer garden is definitely a big plus (even though the smell of cigarettes and smokes on your hair and clothes... i just didn't miss that). They are very serious about security with their squad of bouncers, they actually have paramedics on site in case something happens... I was the first one to give out about all those bouncers and that security... but I did appreciate them when a friend of mine fainted and they took good care of her, especially the paramedics! This is a really tough one. Dicey's can be a great day out with the lads if you wanna watch the football and have a few beers in the very impressive beer garden but then when they have the special promotional price nights, it's a free-for-all and it gets very messy. The service is lacklustre but can be very friendly at times too. One big gripe I have about this place is the doorstaff. At one stage, I was standing in the beer garden with some friends where I was actually movced to three different places because I was 'in the way'. (The other 300 people must have taken up all the safe acceptable standing places). It came to the stage where I actually asked permission from one of the security who go on like prison camp guards if I could stand in a certain spot. He okayed it and another guy asked me to move. I told him to go and ask my proverbial as I was sick of being moved around like a chessman. Maybe a 2 star rating is a bit generous but in fairness, I have had a few good sessions in there it's just a pity the high viz jackets go to the door staff's heads sometimes. read more

We went to Dicey's cause my good friend used to work there. It was loud and crowded and just BLAH. We had to pay to get in, with all the places to go in Dublin I would stick to the places that don't charge. At the bar, my female friend and I kept getting hit on by these super sketchy dudes, so we pretended we were together just to get them to back down. They call it a "beer garden" but the only resemblances to one I saw was that they served beer and had some flower pots outside. I was not impressed by the place as a whole and would recommend avoiding it unless you have no plans to have any conversation or don't need to enjoy yourself. read more

I was out at a function last night and we decided to leave a very good atmosphere to go to dicey reilly's. We were asked on arrival if our names was on the guest list we said no"sorry cant let you in"the door man said. It is booked out for guests only. Still two girls got out of a taxi that was not on the guest list and got in. I am a proffesional person and we were on a work outing from a dublin Hospital. We have always went to dicey's and then down to Bojangels. I feel we have supported this pub through out the years and when they get a booking its just closed doors to regulars. Be careful with your credit card here. Just about every business in Ireland has credit card machines that offer the "service" of allowing you to pay in your home currency. You pay an exchange rate that's about 5% worse than if you just paid in Euros. However, the merchant is supposed to ask. We didn't get asked here. Just got presented with a charge slip in dollars. Business owner: train your staff better and ask your bank about scenarios where the customer can receive service from you, yet get it for free because the customer successfully pursued a chargeback. Otherwise it was a great place to go dancing and I'd have reviewed it a lot higher if the bar staff didn't unilaterally upcharge every purchase 5%. read more

Dicey's is the hangout for Dublin's young suit boys and dolly birds. The bar itself is decorated nicely, and the smoking garden has to be the biggest and swankiest I have ever seen, far outstripping the indoor area in terms of size and popularity. The tables are marble-topped, and there's plasma screen tvs imbedded into the walls. It is partially covered over and there's gas heaters hanging from the ceilings, making it feel very illegal to be smoking here. The music is very very loud and very very poppy. The drinks are bloody expensive at the weekends (€6 pints and €8 for a vodka and mixer) but during the week they are bloody cheap, €2 for all drinks on a Wednesday, and €3 on a Thursday. Inevitably, the place gets jammed to the rafters on these nights. It's not really my bag at all, but I recently had a really good night here with a new group of friends. read more

Dicey Reilly's is a great pub for the simple reason that it has an amazing beer garden. I'm not sure anyone goes in and doesn't sit out here actually - I know I don't. I wouldn't usually be a huge fan of the bars around Harcourt Street but this one definitely suits me because of the garden. It's a particularly good spot to go to if you're celebrating a birthday or going on a group night out. I think you can book a section and the size of the place means there's always enough room for everyone to be milling about. Dicey's has a carvery lunch menu from Monday to Friday, which caters for the many workingin the area, and there's a BBQ menu available also later in the day (from 2pm to 9pm). read more

Love this bar! Went there for the first time a few months back with a few friends at around 8pm on a Friday night. Not too crowded, got busier as the night went on. Drinks were very well priced. Do Not Go Here. The bouncers are Ultra Agressive. A group of us went on a Friday night. The bouncers hassled each of us at the door about our ID. One of our friends was not allowed in for not having his ID but as we were walking away to go somewhere else it kicked off as the one of the bouncers attacked our friend. The other bouncers joined in using excessive force, punching and forcing our friend to the ground. It was broken up by the police, if they didn't break it up we all feared what might have happened as the bouncers were so aggressive. They completely over reacted to the situation in a way any normal person would not. What made it worse was one of the last bouncers grabbed, punched and chocked another friend of ours who got pushed by one of the first bouncers. It was totally uncalled for, overly aggressive and a disgrace. They went too far with our first friend over not showing ID but to attack and attempt to cut off the air supply of our second friend who had done nothing was a bigger disgrace. It was not the first time this has happened. I personally have seen male bouncers in this club push girls against walls intimidate and scream at the customers for no apparent reason. There are plenty of other clubs in Dublin to go to. Don't waste your night being harassed by bullies. read more

Dicey's is the go-to night club for any short or long term traveler. After 22:00 (10 pm) you will have to pay a 10 euro cover but most nights drinks are around 2 euro a beer. If you are looking for a long night of dancing and flirting, Dicey's garden is your place. If you can make it til the club shuts down around 2 am, Krystle, the upstairs bar opens to keep the night alive. read more

Was recommended this place by a pal at work. He said the beer specials were unreal and boy was he right. 2 EURO PINTS on the Thursday we went and the atmosphere was buzzing.
