My Chihuahua won't let us cut her nails. It doesn't matter how many treats we give her, it's just not happening. After trying multiple places, we found that DINR was simply the best of the best. For around $15, they not only cut her nails but file them as well. After going to places like Petco and even the ARL, we found that that DITR is able to control our dog much better which leads to being able to cut the nail shorter. Win! The staff is very pleasant and they keep the salon very clean and stocked with goodies for the pups after a grooming session. They also accept walk-ins which is a huge plus! read more

When you walk in they have a display of dog collars and shirts that you don't see everywhere but merchandise isn't why you're here, you're here for the people and your pet. Privately owned with younger girls, they treat your pet like their own pet. I have a Shi-Tzu who likes who he likes and dislikes who he dislikes and I can confidently say my dog likes them. We told them they might need a muzzle to get his cut but when we went to pick him up they said none of that was needed and he was great! That alone shows me they know how to handle a dog. I wanted him to have a Orange Mohawk and give him a little edge and they did it perfect. He got his nails cut, ears cleaned, hair cut, bath, shampoo and conditioned with the Mohawk and a tip for 75$. It lasted through the summer months and he smelled great for weeks! I would stay away from any chain groomer and go to this small perfect place for pet maintenance. Me and my dog approve. read more

Diamond in the Ruff (love the name!) is primarily for dogs, but I take my kitty to get his nails clipped because it is worth the $12 and some change to have a professional do it and spare myself the hour long bloody ordeal that I would endure if I were to attempt to do it myself. You don't need any appointment for cat nail clipping and it usually takes about 5 minutes or less, so it's really a super quick process. The experience and salon itself is five stars, but I am giving DITR four stars because two or three times I have gone during their posted hours (not on a holiday or anything), they have been closed, which is super annoying. Maybe they just don't open if they don't have any dogs scheduled? I'm not sure, but I have learned to call ahead to make sure they're open before walking in. read more

Our recent terrier/chihuahua rescue was in need of the works. My vet provided a list of recommended groomers in the area, but singled out Diamond in the Ruff. It's slightly out of our way from the East End, but after doing research some of the other groomers in the area gave me pause (paws?) - but I'd read plenty of great experiences from Diamond in the Ruff, so decided to give it a shot. Our pup has a decent amount of separation anxiety and doesn't do well with strangers - as was evident when we first arrived. Even before I left however, he'd warmed up to some of the staff - and they later reported that he was calm throughout the cut/bath/nails. I attribute this to what I perceive as the patience and compassion of the staff - they do seem to really care about their furry clients. The whole process took about 2.5 hours and came in at under $50 (re: the wait - it's a quick hop to Carson street for coffee and shopping). They did a great job cleaning up our boy and getting him his summer 'do. We will definitely be back! read more

Our dog had been going to Diamond in the Ruff for a few years and until this last weekend everything was fine. Our 9 year old Lhasa mix woke up Saturday morning 1-5-13 bouncing around and wanting to go for his morning walk. Then went to the groomer for his appointment. When my wife goes to pick him up; he is curled up like a shrimp and the back half of his body isn't working. He floundered around on the floor while my wife asked what happened. Nothing according to the staff who apparently were having problem making eye contact with my wife. The staff help carry our dog out to the car and my wife takes him to the vet hospital on 88 in castle shannon. Apparently he has disc problem which could have been caused by a number of factors. The Xrays didn't show anything and since dogs don't really show bruises like humans there was no way of telling if there was any trauma that caused the problem. So he is sent home with Rymadil and rest. The next day the poor dog, who wants to go out for a walk is dragging the back half of his body and falling. He basically had no sensation below the neck. One monday we called out normal vet who has treated him for 3 plus years. On Tuesday we took Benji out for his last "walk"; more like a drag. He couldn't pee or poop and he was dragging his back paws to the point where the nails were ripping off and bleeding. Tuesday at 1110am our vet gave us the options. All of them bad with poor prognosis. Invasive surgery with low probability of full recovery, crate seclusion with steroids and nsaids and us carrying him out and expressing his bladder and anus for several months; also with a low prognosis of success due to how damaged he was. Or Euthanasia Guess what; Yesterday at this time I was holding Benji for the last time while the vet put him to sleep. This was a dog that had 5 or 6 more good years left in him. The vet is convinced something happened at the grooming appt to cause this acute problem; but the folks at Diamond say nothing happened. read more

THEY SHAVED MY CAT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! Apparently the policy of this salon is to get permission from the emergency contact, and not the pet owner, to make a drastic haircut decision despite the fact that they had previously been told not to give that specific haircut. They said they would not change this policy. I dropped off my cat and told them that she needed the back of her legs shaved because her hair was matted. I told them that she's been fully shaved before and that I did not want it to happen again. The consultation was great and I felt confident that my wishes would be upheld. I told them my boyfriend would pick her up, gave them his number, and went to the gym. I came back to my phone and saw that I had missed calls. When I called back I found out that they shaved my cat in the exact way that I had asked them not to, and instead of asking for my permission, they asked for my boyfriend's permission. I felt completely blindsided. I spoke with my boyfriend about it and he said they didn't specify what they meant by shaving and he thought they were only going to shave her back legs. I'm upset for several reasons: 1) My boyfriend is not the pet owner, and he should not have been included in the decision making process AT ALL. His phone number was given as an emergency contact ONLY 2) They called my boyfriend multiple times telling him that he NEEDED to make a decision, and pressuring him to do so 3) They did not clarify the extent of the haircut when they asked for permission 4) When I asked why they didn't simply NOT shave my cat when they didn't get my permission, they said they thought about it, and then continued anyway 5) When I asked for a refund (because the services they performed did not match the services I had paid for), they said no and that I should be mad at my boyfriend and not them 6) I told them that in the future it should be store policy to only receive permission from the pet owner before making a drastic decision, and they said they would not do that I understand their reasoning for wanting to shave her, but they should have run it by me first, and ONLY me. I should not be told AFTER the fact, when it is too late to do anything about it. Had I spoken with them personally, I would have told them not to shave her and allow me to get a second opinion. If this had been handled properly, I would be a returning customer even if they hadn't groomed her at all. A company needs to be transparent about the services they are providing, and not do anything they can't undue without the owner's permission. Good luck if you take your pet here! I hope they heed my advice, but as I mentioned earlier, they said they would not change their policy to prevent this from happening in the future. read more

We met one of the workers at the South Side dog park. She's very friendly and she referred us here. My boyfriend and I took our pup for a nail trimming. Mind you, she's 11 months old, she's a rescue, and very skittish around people she doesn't recognize. Even though it took 3 people to get the job done, they were extremely patient and understanding. We took our six month old puppy here yesterday. After reading the reviews of multiple groomers in the area, this place seemed to have the best reviews. Our puppy had been to another groomer previously, before coming here, and we were very unsatisfied with the way the other groomer had trimmed him. Can happily say we plan to return to Diamond in the Ruff in the future! They did an excellent job and our puppy was done in three hours. The place was clean and very open & the groomer was very professional and knowledgeable. Answered all of my questions and provided me with some great info and recommendations. Also - They ask for a record of vaccinations which is comforting as a pet owner because it ensures that the other animals groomed here are up to date on all necessary shots. We took our 7 year old rescue here last night for the first time, and we couldn't be more pleased. Little Oreo, only 7lbs, is a sweet boy but has some fear issues. We were worried about getting him a full grooming appointment, and the groomer worked with us and assured that she would take things one step at a time and would call us if Oreo was having any problems. She spent time with us when we first arrived, and we left our buddy feeling hopeful. Sure enough, he had a great appointment and looks adorable! We will definitely be bringing him back. I love this groomer! I've been bringing my shih Tzu Joey there for a few years and the staff is wonderful. They are so friendly and knowledgeable about his special skin issues and allergies. I am writing this review because I have been to probably 5 other groomers in the Pittsburgh area and thought they were all OK but I wasn't ever impressed. I never went to a groomer more than once because I was looking for a groomer that gave me the most for my money and this place definitely does that. It's not an over the top dog pampering spa but they do the basics wonderfully and it is on the lower end of the price scale for a shih Tzu grooming. I pay $40 + tip and Joey leaves there smelling and looking so handsome. I highly recommend this place. read more
