My husband being from Akron, remembered that this used to be an exceptional steak house. We were visiting the area and decided to dine here. I have had better steak, it was just ok...my husband's steak was served on a cold dish - who does this? we ordered a side of mushrooms expecting fresh, they were right from the can...awful. My baked potato was not quite done and all the butter in the world didn't make it soft enough. Sorry for only 2 stars but you need to live up to your reputation and make some improvements. read more

What an amazing evening. From the moment we were greeted by complimentary valet to walking in the door, I could feel the warmth and care of the staff. We were seated in a gorgeous dining room with vintage wallpaper, beautiful woodwork, and Sputnik lights. The hostess gave us a little history of this Akron Institution and a wonderful wine list to begin. Our server, Mona, was impeccable. She made thoughtful suggestions (as it was our first time) of what not to miss! We all enjoyed our expertly prepared steaks, amazing sides (the mushrooms! the broccoli!) and delightful desserts. Everything is prepared from scratch, and it shows. It is such a pleasure to dine somewhere with pride and commitment to serving real authentic whole food selections. Additionally, as someone with gluten sensitivity, this restaurant was nothing less than spectacular! We rarely, if ever, eat out since the pandemic but my husband picked Diamond Grill for his 75 birthday celebration. We had a very friendly greeting by both hostess and our server. My husband's dinner of twin thick lamb chops was great, along with salad, crispy home fries, and sauerkraut balls. However I ordered the pan sautéed Walleye which came to the table as if it were breaded and deep fried. I could not use the side of my fork to cut through it, please remember it was supposed to be pan sautéed . I showed the fish to our waitress by picking it up by the end to show her that it was so overdone that it stayed in one whole piece and her reply was , "I just served 4 other Walleye dinners to customers." She did ask if I wanted something else and I declined, returning the entire plate of Walleye to her, but did eat my salad. No manager came to our table or anyone else to see if there could be some resolution to the poorly prepared fish. When we got our bill we were charged for the full amount for the Walleye dinner. My husband did not want to make a fuss so we paid it . Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant for that reason and sadly we will not return. Perhaps if we were frequent customers, we might have had someone speak with us, but that really shouldn't matter. I will tell you that driving up Market Street to an older building with a half-lit neon sign did not foretell of of the meal we were about to partake in, but my love for this type of atmosphere didn't scare me in the least... Our waitress was as sweet as she could be and made us feel welcome from the start. Having been in the area many times, there was no question we were going to start with the stuffed Hungarian peppers (Northern Ohio specialty) and the lump crab cocktail. The peppers were spot-on and the crab cocktail tasted like it just came out of the ocean- yum! I ordered the Boston Strip, Pittsburgh-cold, House Salad and a side of broccoli and my buddy got the Long-Bone Ribeye/Onion Rings, Wedge Salad and Hash Browns. The salads were a nice start, nothing special, but no complaints (I liked the garlic dressing on my house salad).My steak had a crunchy brown crust and was cold in the middle just like I asked for- freaking awesome, and my boy's Ribeye was like butter! My broccoli was alright and the hash browns were very good...The wine list is full of names you'll know, and ours was a floater at the end of the night. No need/want for dessert as we were both pleasantly stuffed. If you're in the area, go...if you're within 50-100 miles, it's worth the drive! read more

They are more reasonable than a lot of big name steak places. They makes you feel part of the family and everything is served even better than expected! Ah, Diamond Grill, you have been the pinnacle of fine dining in the 'kron since I was born and lived up the road on Kuder Ave. Alas, as the fortunes of Summit County have dwindled, so too has your stature among other fine establishments elsewhere... Make no bones about it, DG still harkens back to a time when the Rubber City was full of money and wealthy dining patrons. My dear mother, who introduced me to DG when I was 13 years old, tells stories about deals being done and crazy nights. The fact that they still don't accept credit cards - most patrons have a tab that they pay when they get the monthly statement at home - is a sign of how things once (and still) worked. However, now the Proprietors, Nick and Teddy, still run the place but are aging like the city around them. I was home recently and we were out to celebrate my mother's, brother's, sister-in-law's and wife's birthday. DG is still a great special occasion place. Teddy greeted us when we entered and we were quickly seated because we had reservations. I would still recommend making reservations, because 1) the place is small and 2) it is still popular - even on weeknights like when we went. Service was not rushed, but our server was obviously new. She didn't know the steak sizes (I am not sure why they are not printed on the menu?) nor did she know the beers available. The bread is still a favorite - specifically the salty pumpernickel. My mother still insists on ordering the bacon appetizer. I don't see what the fuss is anymore - it is basically a thick cut piece of bacon cooked crisp. The house salad was normal and good, but forgettable. The steaks lack seasoning - including salt and pepper (or at least I couldn't taste enough). The Willie Fries are still the best and most unique thing we had all night. I had the Boston Strip steak - apparently someone didn't like calling it a "NY Strip". A nice touch at the end of the meal - we ordered a dessert and they put a big firework in the middle of it. Overall, DG is still good and worthy of a try when you are in Akron. I would not hesitate to have a business meal here. It is also great for special occasions - it certainly was a nice evening for our family meal. read more

We were always curious since so much had been talked about yet from the outside no one could ever guess what to expect since there are no windows and the exterior can use a little love. Cocktails. He had the Moscow mule & I had a dirty martini -- these could have been better so opt for wine instead. Apps: Ordered the Rockafeller oysters and these were very good. First time trying them this way. I'd love to taste them raw the next time. Salads: house salad was fine. A bit too much cheese for my taste and they added celery which I'm not a fan of, so a lot digging around picking stuff out. Entrees: I ordered the filet royal, butterflied. It was delicious. Served with house fries which were way more than I could eat but the crispiness was on point. He had the porterhouse - HUGE portion. We could have split this. He loved it. Next time, I'd like to try the fish Since it was his birthday, they brought out a sundae with a candle. Cute detail to end the evening. Service was very pleasant, a smile and very detailed with the menu. Little atmosphere but I guess that's the charm of this place. This is one of my dad's favorite food establishments in Akron, therefore I have visited many times over! Lol. I have to say that though the food is good, I don't think that it's really worth the price point. If you are looking to step into a time machine and go back to the 1950's where lights are dimly lit, waiters have serving towels over their crisp, white button down shirt covered arms, and dry martinis flow next to large cooked steaks.....this is your place. The portions are insanely large and you will feel slightly like an elitist as you cut into your delicately placed lamb chops on your plate. Is it worth going to once? Hell Yeah!! Willy fries might as well have been Wally Fries (Wally Waffle), lacking creativity or flavor (they were supposed to be spicy). Bread was slightly warm, but nothing special. Salad was pretty decent - bleu cheese dressing was tasty. Onions and mushrooms were underwhelming. French onion soup was less than mediocre. My family has been dining at the DG since it opened in mid 30's. We've celebrated countless special occasions here and recently had another memorable experience. I now live in the Bay Area and my father is soon moving back east after 50 years in the Akron area. We chose DG for our final celebratory meal in Akron before he moves. I asked the owner and GM, Katie, if she would make an exception and set up an outdoor table for us since we're not yet ready for indoor dining and my father is high risk. Katie went ABOVE and BEYOND and put together a lovely table and set up a speaker for some musical ambience. My two cousins joined us and we enjoyed a classic cocktails, apps (shrimp cocktail and stuffed banana peppers, salads and, of course, some of the best beef in all of northeast Ohio. It was an evening none of us will never forget and we can't thank Katie and her team enough for making the night so special. I have loved this place since the first time I stepped in probably eight years ago. But my review is for this past Saturday. First and foremost, not only is the Diamond a step back in decor, it is in experience as well. The bartender or manager seats you. You need to know this...it can be intimidating if you don't know what to do. However, I like the uniqueness of the feel of this...it is not as corporate feeling as my other favorite, Flemings. If you want the textbook 21st century dining experience, go there (and they're great too). If you want to go back in time and forget about today for a while, the Diamond is where it is at. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. She didn't rush to get a dinner order in after our appetizers...this is a place to sit back enjoy yourself. Pro-tip: the shrimp cocktail here is epic. Regardless of anything, I am ordering shrimp cocktail here. We also ordered the crab cocktail (nearly as good). For dinner, I had a delicious Royal Filet and my date had the Swordfish. My steak was perfect (medium rare) and she enjoyed her fish. Her house, tossed salad looked great, and I had the wedge, which admittedly is hard to screw up, but the dressing was perfect. A note about the decor. There are a lot of reviews that complain about the decor. This is an institution. I would likely not come back if they did change it all up. The worst experience ever!!!! Steak wasn't cooked correctly, they didn't have any champagne chilled,besides the one really expensive bottle, then they gave us freezer burnt ice cream to try and make up for it!! And by freezer burnt I mean like the kind of freezer burnt your great great great grandmothers deep freezer ice cream that she has had in her freezer for like 10 years that she feeds to her young grandchildren that don't know any better!! I'm in town visiting family, and had a night out alone. I walked in, and in 5 seconds knew that nothing had changed. Same booths, same bar, same class without being stuffy vibe I remember. The best way I can think to describe it is, Don Draper's favorite place to eat. Really. There is no wifi. They don't take credit cards, but do take checks. The steaks are still the best. Huge fan of this classic, no-frills restaurant. They specialize in excellent cuts of meat. Filet's were all perfectly cooked and delectable. Apps were amazing - stuffed banana peppers, oysters, thick cut bacon. Wine selection was decent, but $10 corking fee allowed me to bring a few special bottles from my collection to make the meal even more memorable. In early August of every year you're bound to spot a number of famous athletes from either the Bridgestone Invitation or Pro Football HOF events. My waitress served Rory last year and apparently Tiger is a frequent customer. Would recommend DG to anyone looking for an amazing meal in a unique setting. read more

Recently did curbside from the Diamond Grille and was exceptionally pleased from the time I placed my order to pick up. I ordered appetizers and 3 pork chop dinners. The food was still hot when I got home(25 minutes later). On one order we substituted a veg. in place of potato and was not charged an additional substitution fee as would have been at another upscale market street restaurant. The food was amazing! The appetizers, the salad which they did not skimp on, the vegetable/ potato, chops were outstanding and even the bread, which was very fresh. Compared to other upscale restaurants which are comparable or even higher priced in Akron, the Diamond Grille hands down had the best food and customer service. read more

Horrible experience at the Diamond Grille this week. Took wife there for her birthday. First off the parking lot. It's under construction and is just a dusty gravel pit with haphazard parking. My shoes were filthy before I even set foot inside. You now enter through the back door. It's like being funneled in through a fun house at some crappy traveling town carnival. The whole place is now chopped up and separated from the main dining area. Horrid layout to say the least. The steaks...Wife ordered a strip medium. Usually get it med rare when you say medium. It was medium rare and she liked it. I ordered the ribeye medium also. It arrived and I tried cutting into it with my steak knife. After about 8 saws with the knive I realized it was about as rare as you can get it with out it still being alive. I had it taken back to actually be cooked. 12 minutes later it comes back. Of course my wife is half done with her steak already. I hate when a restaurants throw your dining tempo off because they just couldn't get it right from the start. It's an expensive restaurant so they should not be putting up with inadequate cooks. So between the carnival parking, the lousy atmosphere and the undercooked steak we won't be coming back. Shame...it's been a staple in Akron for years. Used to go there as a kid with my Grandparents. Nothing lasts forever I guess. Save yourself the time, hassle and money and treat yourself to a better dining experience. read more

Reservations are surely recommended but on a busy night do not expect to be followed. Old school! We waited 1.5 hours past our reservation. We were pissed. However! Once we sat down in the late 70s early 80s decor it was amazing. Our server Sarah turned us around. The owner comped us our apps which was great. They ran out of oysters though. It was Bridgestone Invitational so it was packed. Everyone visiting Akron or area must go here. Three of us order their longbone. But... They ran out after we ordered. So instead to our surprise we were delivered porter house instead. They were huge! I only ate the tenderloin portion and took the rest back. Once seated the experience was bar none. We ended up getting "invoiced" by way of business card which is one of the reasons we went to just go old school. It is a very eclectic old school establishment. Going in is a blast from the past and the bar tending is very generous. Ordering a single or mix drink it is hard to find the mix. I have to say anyone coming to this area needs to try this out. The flimsy silverware and lucite white plastic dishes are what you see at a diner. The long bone was good, the hash browns were burnt. So much so that they gave us a free dessert. For some reason my review has disappeared previously, so here it is again: It has been over 1.5 years since my one and only visit. Yet this was still the poorest service I've ever received by a long shot that I still remember and came here to inform any future potential visitors. I came here with 4 of my colleagues to celebrate a graduation and came at dinner time. We dressed appropriately for the occasion. When we first walked in, we were probably standing in the front for 5 minutes despite the fact it was not very busy. Finally, an older white man approaches us (a mix of multiple minorities) and asks "Can I help you?" in a condescending tone. That's not how you greet new customers. I've received better service at McDonald's. We had a young female waitress serving us at a round table. After we all got waters, she asked sarcastically "Are you guys going to order food at all tonight?" Strike two. The steaks were not up to par, as agreed by all of the 5 members of our party. I have been to places where the service has been subpar but the food excellent which can overcome the service. This was not the case. One of the orders was incorrect and a couple of the steaks had to be sent back AND the waitress spilled some water on one of my colleagues. There as NO apology for any of these. In addition, my steak was pretty tasteless, and I think I probably could have done better on my own at home. After the meal, we elected not to get dessert here due to the rude service. We were given the check without a thank you or any recognition. I have never stiffed anyone and regret that I did not do so in order to send a message that abysmal service will be met with an abysmal tip. Will never be setting foot here again and I still tell everyone I know that this is the most overrated restaurant in Akron. read more

I chose Diamond Grille as a fancy birthday dinner for my mom and I. We had a party of four on a Thursday night. We made a reservation that wasn't necessary, since the place was not busy. I cannot speak to a weekend night, but I would imagine that if you want to avoid crowds and long waits, then avoid the weekends! The decor is exactly what I expected, not only from the description on the website, but also because I peek in the windows every time I walk downtown. Yes, the decor is old or outdated or vintage or classic. If you want brand new and fancy, then why are you going to a restaurant that has been in business since the 30s and under the same ownership since the 40s? You can tell from the location and the outside that this place is super old school. No, the circa 1960s, hand painted wallpaper is not the most clean or wrinkle free...because it is over 50 years old! But it is charming and beautiful. Loved the fixtures, loved the wallpaper, loved the carpet, loved every part of the decor, which was exactly as I expected. The menu was just exactly what is advertised online on their website. It is a no frills steak house. Our table had the french onion soup with cheese, the iceberg wedge salad with the house made thousand island dressing, the tossed house salad with the house dressing and crumbled blue, filet mignon with baked potato (and one with a side of onions), and the long bone with home fries. Every steak was cooked perfectly to order. Every entree came with the sides exactly as ordered. Every steak was a great size, even big enough for leftovers for one member of our party. The service was quick and friendly. We even received bonus ice cream sundaes for the two birthday girls. Just exactly perfect. Yes, the soda is in a can with a cup of ice. Yes, the waitress uniforms are dated. Yes, the interior is old. No, the menu does not have a lot of bells and whistles. Everything is simple and well prepared, efficient, and friendly. There wasn't anything too fancy, but it was all done well. As for the price... If you think you can get a better steak at Outback, why are you even going to this type of restaurant? If you think that something is "overpriced," maybe you should stick to budget restaurants. The filet mignon is cheaper than Ken Stewart's and they have more cuts of steak than Ken Stewart's. They are also less expensive than any steak house in Cleveland. So honestly, what do you think you're getting? If you can't afford the price, there are certainly newer box chains with modern decor available, why not just go there? The Diamond Grille hasn't maintained its reputation for over 50 years because broke ass motherf*ckers can't see the value in a great steakhouse. This place is too rich for my blood on the regular, but I would not hesitate to return for a special occasion. I'm not even sure where to start with this place. This is a good ole boys club. It must be how they've received these rave reviews. The bread is good and the home fries are good and that's where it ends. We had the stuffed peppers and they were absolutely nothing to write home about. The steak is what you pay for and it is not even near good. It's an unseasoned hot mess to be honest. If you literally want a $44 steak with parsley on it that is underdone then this place will be your favorite. And don't forget that they serve $44 steaks and will only take cash or check...checks! Hahaha what's the best way to get ripped off in the restaurant biz? I'm pretty sure it's accepting checks...but you won't take credit/debit. Seems ridiculous. Luigi's, in Akron, does this but at least there food is decent for the price and they have an ATM. The server was nice enough but the guy that I'm assuming is the owner is an a$$.
