I don't understand all the 5 star reviews on Google. I did not have same experience. I felt rushed out and no tests or X-ray were done.

I was seen by 2 other gastroenterologists prior to seeing him, and they both kind of intimated that my symptoms were all in my head. Dr. Venu actually believed my concerns and ordered a test which confirmed a diagnosis, and I got better by following his plan of care. I'm a nurse practitioner, and I truly trust his clinical skills and judgement. Dr. Venu is no longer at Loyola, he's in a group practice in Des Plaines.

If you are ever in need of a specialist in the gastroenterology area (issues involving stomach/throat/swallowing/digestion problems dealing with the previous areas listed) - PLEASE - get a referral and book an appointment with Dr. Venu. A family member - after various tests and procedures involving gastro and possible swallowing disorders (you don't necessarily have to FEEL it to have the issue. Usually the issue is picked up during other more routine tests...) was booked to see Dr. Venu. He was very kind, overly understanding, THOROUGH (as stated above), and even funny. Dr. Venu ordered my mother one more swallowing test which while only about 30 minutes and technically painless, is indeed NOT comfortable as certain small tubes would be run through the nose and throat. During the procedure, Dr. Venu even came into the testing room to comfort and joke around with my mother during the procedure. My mother stated that if it had not been for Dr. Venu's kind, calm, and humorous demeanor, she may not have gotten through the test. Afterwards, Dr. Venu HIMSELF called my mother with an update, test results, and medication he wanted her to try. Dr. Venu spoke with my mother on the phone upwards of 20 minutes while she was in Costco and again was very personable, kind, and compassionate. We cannot recommend Dr. Venu enough, and he is a tremendous asset to Loyola hospital.

The call center is a joke, the staff lied and stated that they called me multiple times to schedule which is a bold faced lie. I was contacted ONCE! I had to call back 4 times to get someone from the office to call me back. Yes, finally got an appointment scheduled, filled out all of the required docs, etc...... never received any texts or follow up emails regarding my appt. Called this A.M. to ask for the time. Of course you have to wait for a callback. Got one and explained to the most condescending woman that I did not feel comfortable with how disorganized they handle new patients and was dismissed. Still charged me for the appointment. Im report to BBB. Horrible!

And believe me I ask a lot of questions. The office is very clean, the same with the waiting area. The ladies working the front desk are nice and helpful. Most of the people who work here speak Spanish as well. Not helpful in my case, but it's super helpful to many patients. My only complaint would be the waiting time today. I had an appointment at 2pm today and I'm literally writing this while waiting for the doctor to see me. It is 3:00pm right now. But this is the first time I waited this long and it is after a long weekend so I'm not taking any stars off for that. I feel very comfortable with the doctor and all his staff. Also worth mentioning is that they accept the insurance for people with low income (found this out after talking to a lady who was waiting to see the doctor and overheard the nurse informing a patient that they accept it). Forgive me for not knowing the proper name for this insurance but I'm sure people who have it will know what I'm talking about.

It felt very dirty, the room i was in looked like it had been converted from a public bathroom. This could be the best doctor in the world but unfortunately I couldn't get past the gross interior. The first room I was in smelled like cigarettes or maybe it was the nurse that was taking my info? Maybe I am just used to a doctors office being very plain and sterile?

DO NOT GO TO SUMMIT DIGESTIVE FOR GI CARE…read more My experience there has been meaningless and incredibly burdensome. I met first with a doctor at the Ravenswood location who dismissed what I had to say and scheduled me for a upper endoscopy with zero input. MONTHS later I was finally scheduled for the upper endoscopy (at a separate location) where I did not see the doctor except for, I am not exaggerating, 5 seconds before I was put under for the procedure. While I was still unconscious, the team scheduled a follow-up appointment at a THIRD location--again, without my input for scheduling. At the third location in Chinatown, I saw the nurse practitioner who informed me that nothing was wrong, and there was nothing I could do about my symptoms but "be less stressed." Furthermore, the bill I received for my procedure was massive. My insurance could not even deduce the information they were given by Summit Digestive and I was forced to pay thousands out of pocket. For context, I have very good insurance and had already met my copay. My colleague (with the same insurance) had both an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy with different GI specialists and paid thousands less than I did. Finally, even though I haven't stepped foot in a Summit Digestive building in over a year, I received a "Statement Notification." I had settled my previous (& egregious) bills long ago. I tried to contact the billing team at Summit, but the website gives no information about hours of operation and the options on the phone do not permit patients to call at all. I tracked down an old phone number of an employee with whom I'd communicated about bills last year and called them. It reached a Summit office but was a different employee, who promptly transferred me to the voicemail box of a different office. I have received no answers for my pain & symptoms, I have not been listened to, and I have been charged a ridiculous amount of money for horrible care. DO NOT GO TO SUMMIT DIGESTIVE.
