Incompetence, erratic behavior, shoddy workmanship, missed deadlines, lack of accountability This account was written by close friend who had a very upsetting experience after taking a Mac laptop to Richard Dow for a new battery--an ostensibly simple hardware fix. I offered to post it so others do not have to go through similar frustration. 1. I bring my laptop to a driveway so Richard could "see inside." HE RETURNS IT WITH TWO OUTSIDE SCREWS STRIPPED AND REMOVED FROM CASE. He has to order the battery and tells me he hates Macs though he claims to be a Mac repairman. 2. I return a week later to drop off laptop, supposed to be ready in 30 minutes. HE MISPLACED BATTERY. I go home, ready to call another repairman, he calls, found battery. 3. I bring it back at the agreed upon time. It won't be done for "a while." HE NEEDS TO FIND AND REPLACE TRACK PAD CABLE, WHICH WAS FINE BEFOREHAND! He gets mad because I'm upset and he's the one doing all the work!! Price has changed twice because of extra time. I do not pay the second increase and retrieve the laptop towards the end of the day. 4. Battery starts up that evening, but the next morning it is dead. Won't hold charge. 5. I take it to a professional technician in another city and watch as he opens the case. BATTERY NOT SEATED PROPERLY, TRACK PAD MISALIGNED, INTERNAL SCREWS STRIPPED, A SPACER BENT AND UNUSEABLE. I paid for this 2nd technician to correct Richard's errors.

If you go to Google Maps and enter in 99 west north in Healdsburg, this is the door we entered, the one in the middle with the awning. Everyone we interacted with in this bldg was super extra nice. I recounted how frustrated we were with our seemingly unique internet needs, and someone (wish I could recall his name) ended up hooking us up (aka for FREE) with a slightly used (but still working) DSL modem/router that works great. In short, go see these guys about your tech/networking needs, they will actually take the time and talk with you about stuff, rather than professing total ignorance at their own products then shoo-ing you out the door (like some other name-brand tech stores around here).

The story was: After several days of trying to get my internet working again with Comcast, including two half hour calls with Comcast and multiple 'resets' etc., I realized they were not going to be helpful, so I called Cloverdale Computer and asked if they could help me. I described the symptoms and the person I was speaking to, made a quick diagnosis that it was likely a Comcast line and and that I needed to call Comcast back and get one of their technicians out. I did that, Comcast sent the technician, it was a line problem and I was back up and running! I offered to pay for a phone consult and no charge!

Acronis confirmed that it did not have a subscription in either my name or Wine Country Computers on my behalf. Acronis informed me that Wine Country Computers is a reseller of its software and can purchase them and resell. When I confronted the owner, he had no explanation. I caught him in an attempted fraud by charging me for a non-existent renewal of a subscription I never had. I don't even have 12 computers. Stay away.
