The best naan I've ever had. So fluffy and yummy.
Andrea Y.

As a traveler driving towards Madison I craved Indian food. Yelp gave me some recommendations and I chose this one based on ratings and I was rewarded with the most delicious garlic naan I've ever had. I can only imagine how much better it would have been had I eaten it there rather than takeout. I ordered through the phone and they were very patient and helpful in choosing my items. I'm including a photo of the best naan and chicken and vegetable dishes that were also delicious.

It was a rare occasion that we were on the west side of town around dinner time so we looked for a place to eat with strong reviews. We love Indian and this was a chance to check out a place on this side of town. The restaurant was partially full on a rainy weeknight. The decor is very warm and modern - not your typical Indian restaurant. The menu is similar but different than many of the places we have frequented. We started with an Indian beer and some samosas. The samosas were very good. We ordered the onion and black pepper naan - it was something we had not seen before and we enjoyed it. Actually we like the large variety of naans that they had. For our mains we ordered the Chicken Spinach and the Chicken Shahi Korma. They had some funny spice levels including "nice". The Shahi Korma had decent flavors but the chicken was dry - disappointing. And the Chicken Spinach was a bit flat in flavor. That is not as complex flavor wise as most Indian dishes. The prices were a bit high though they did offer 10% off if you pay cash. That is the largest discount of that type that I have seen. I appreciate that option versus dinging you 3-5% for using a credit card. Overall a mixed experience.

3. Fish Pakora (6 Pcs)

A good place to have Indian food when in town. A special mention to their Fish pakora - it's delicious. Perfect balance of crispiness, portion and a savory taste.. just yumm. This appetizer was recommended to us by one of their servers & since then, every time we stop there, it's our regular order. They also have good variety of vegetarian, chicken, lamb varieties. Interestingly all the variations under a single protein or vegetable have the exact same price - other than a differential between lunch & dinner portions. I don't personally care for the seafood options, but that could be just me being picky about fish (love fish prepared at home). They also don't have dosa or South Indian cuisine which I'm assuming as it's a Dhaba style restaurant - more from Northern/Eastern/Western Indian cuisines. The Biriyani varieties tasted decent. Ambience is leaning towards semi casual.

This is our favorite restaurant in the Madison area. We've gone here at least five times now, but we always ate our food too fast to get a proper review photo. I finally slowed down enough this past visit to photograph our incredible dinner. The food is phenomenal. The samosas are delicious, especially paired with the cilantro chutney (my personal favorite). We always order the butter naan and chicken tikka masala (spicy level 2) because it blows us away every time. That being said, we're challenging ourselves to try something new the next time we visit. The service is always great, with waiters coming around frequently to top off your water and remove dirty plates. We've never had to wait for a table, despite dining during busy times. We will be lifelong patrons of Dhaba!

Close to being perfect! The butter chicken (spice 4/6) was the perfect spice level. The chicken was tender and long strips, with an incredibly creamy sauce. There was a ton of naan - great price for the portion, was thick soft and well flavored. The only knock was the rice was a bit hard - think it just needed to be cooked a little longer. Will definitely eat here again!

I took out lunch from here. Peshawari naan was a good twist to the normal naan. It was slightly sweet with coconut, cashew and raisins. As good as it sounds it didn't go well with the spicy curries I took. May be a mild curry would have gone well with it. Ginger naan was my other bread. It had nice ginger flavors. Go for it if you are a ginger lover. I think garlic naan would have been the best. Coconut chicken and chicken mango were my curries. Both were good.

The main dish - before.

This place is wonderful! So glad I found while traveling. The service and food were excellent. Had my usual : Garlic Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala. Truly the BEST I have ever had. Spice 3 was perfect.

Seeing the first 3 reviews are Yelpers who are both on my list of friends I am already thinking the 5 stars I hope to share are a given. Seeing this place countless times as I drive through the intersection, I was thinking about which Chinese restaurant I should visit, I suddenly realized I should visit the place that is right in front of me. I LOVE Indian cuisine. Sunday night and they are open. Walking in I see a LOT of outgoing meals that are awaiting the arrival of their new owners, surely a very good sign. The man who took my order was very nice and accommodated me with what sometimes feels like a daunting task to decide what I want. As often as I have had Indian food I still find myself feeling inept when I start reading the menu. Deciding on a basic Butter Chicken and garlic naan is default thing I seem to usually have when I'm not eating it in the restaurant. Upon arrival at home I am not disappointed. The first sight of the naan set my mind at ready alert to feast divinely upon a simple pleasure. This naan was a far cry finer than the last time I ordered it. Cooked with care, which was not the case last time. The curry sauce was tamer than I'd ordered. I'd asked for five of the six star offering. It would appear I would have very easily survived the 6. But it was indeed very delicious all the same. Rice too, perfectly seasoned and not a sticky grain to be found. Not wanting to slag the other regular Indian restaurant I have most often visited, it bc an be safe to state I won't be eating at that place moving forward. I liked their food but I think I found a new love.

All of the food here was incredible, but I think the naan is the best I've ever had - thick, just the right amount of chat from the grill.

The items were preordered by the host - sesame chicken, naan, biriyani, plain rice, saag paneer and butter chicken. I had planned on skipping the meal because I have celiac disease and was worried about transmission of substances I couldn't eat. However I asked to speak to one of the men who'd set it up. He told me to avoid the naan and sesame chicken but that everything else was gluten free. His confidence assured me and so I was able to try the meal. The food could have used a little more spice but was delicious. There were huge chunks of paneer which I appreciated. I am so glad that the staff was knowledgeable about their menu. I have now got the confidence to visit the restaurant and try out the other gf options.

Next thing I knew I was in the parking lot and searching for Swagat. Because it was a Monday night it had only 3-4 tables of customers, so my order was ready before I was even thinking about it taking too long. The service was very friendly and personable as well. Suggestions were made while I was trying to decide what the last Indian dish I last had, and I'm relieved he suggested what he did. Vindaloo. Spicy beef and make it your top spice level. He started to caution me, but I was very intent about my capsaicin intake. Dall was me secondary items, yellow, and only at the middle point for heat. Plain naan. Very simple and direct. Upon returning home the scent was enormously delicious and inviting. The delicate long grain rice was perfectly cooked and such a subtle item to be actually a star on the dish, rather than a simple starch to take up space. Potatoes were large and delicate while firm. Beef, velvety soft and still not losing its texture. The yellow lentils were a bit different than I'd expected. I last enjoyed them ages ago and my recall was that they still held some of their form. These were cooked further down, not in an unpleasant or overly aggressive manner, just different than I was expecting. Delicious. Beautifully colorful, saffron(?) I'm unsure. Naan. Another item that deserves a starring role in a meal. This was far better than any of the recent times at either of the two nearby Indian restaurants that I've been spending more time than I now think I plan to in the coming months and years. Tonight I'm enjoying the food from last nights dinner. Should've taken some pics. But take out meals aren't artfully prepared. So they don't really matter anyway.

Great to share with a group. Chicken Tikka Masala: Always a great staple dish to always order. Chicken was soft and the tomato creamy sauce was flavorful. *Unique dishes Garlic Cheese Naan: I was very excited to try this since they stuff the naan with Wisconsin cheese. Most of the party are vegetarians, and thoroughly enjoyed the Tofu Buff with rice. The Baingan Bhartha and Paneer Masala were both extremely flavorful and so tasty! The other half of the party eats meat, and we had the Chicken Bhartha, the Chicken Mango (soooooo delicious), Chicken Tikka Masala, and Shrimp Korma. Everything was well seasoned, and I was so impressed to have such authentic food out in Madison (Los Angeles has no shortage of good Indian food, and this place easily ranks up there with them.) Love the way their Nepali roots work their way into the flavors of the dishes. We also had some mango lassi (delicious) and of course, garlic and aloo naan. No meal is complete without it!!! I loved that they bring out continuous portions of rice for free. THAT is something you never see in LA. I wish I got pictures, but I was too busy eating.
