Perfection. These guys built us a gorgeous, sturdy, super-quality custom cedar fence and gate. Every detail was carefully attended to: they even hand-sanded the clear cedar fenceposts,(I had no idea that they went to those kinds of lengths), and the detailing on the on the custom lattice was simply above and beyond. This fence is built to stay gorgeous for a very long time. Other reasons we want to use these guys when we're ready for the next couple of landscape/deck projects: * Communication: Dan responds promptly to calls, texts, email. Onsite, Before the start of work, Dan explains exactly what to expect to happen, what the likely time-frame is, and all the contingencies to keep in mind. We always knew what to expect. I can't overstate how much peace of mind that gives you when you have a construction team working on your property. If there is any question about any details, Dan checks to make sure he's doing exactly what you want. (SO much better than someone taking a guess and just going with it!) He offers his well-informed opinion, which was quite helpful for some design decisions, and he also respects and carefully executes what you specify. At the end of the day/stage of installation, Dan recaps what was done, and what's next. Since every site and every project is different, this was incredibly valuable. We were completely informed about everything that happened. * Worksite / Organization: The guys were scrupulous about keeping the area looking perfectly tidy the entire time they worked. At the end of the day, the place looked better than before they started. * Amazing customer service: Dan went to some lengths to accommodate a challenging schedule; he fit us in early, and then he and his team worked pretty much dawn to dusk to get the work done quickly and well. I asked for a last second hardware change out, and even though the gate was being completed in his shop *even as we spoke*, he made the change happen without batting an eye. *Nice guys. They're all just really nice guys. * Integrity. I would trust Dan with keys to my house. Highest recommend. read more

This guy Dan is not a professional, and frankly a rude person. I call him up and the first thing he asks what I do for a living, and when I answer he interrupts to tell me that I'm lazy and do my job in my pajamas (Hello? Nice to meet you, too.) Then he whines about having to answer a phone call at 6 PM at the gym, like it's busting his balls. Except this was after refusing to leave a voicemail or respond by text all day. My brother in Christ, if you have time to be at the gym then you aren't working harder than us "lazy pajama-wearers". You're just not. You don't know what you're talking about. Get over yourself. Answers questions like "What would you charge to do X?" with a terse "No." Generally unhelpful and abrasive at every step. You can just imagine what it'd be like to deal with him if he made a mistake and you had to hold him accountable for it. Anyway he eventually gives me the "I don't like you" price for the job, about double what others were offering. Obviously I hired someone else. read more

Terrible, unfortunately. First, there is no "DH Land Pros" come to find out. It is DH Lawns, LLC dba "DH Fence Pros." Their price was higher, but the work was not worth it. Fence posts are loose and off. After a few days, I could see the fence is not straight. Gap at bottom where they shoved some dirt under to hide it. To pour salt in it, the crew finished about 3pm and about 5:20 the owner (Dan Hignite) leaves me a message telling me I needed to pay that night. He sent three texts, 6 calls and three emails over the next day and half. I had never talked to the owner before, and 50% is paid up front. So, there was no reason or basis to harass me for instant payment. I paid that second day, I don't think 48 hours to pay is unreasonable to me. Did a little research, owner pled guilty to forgery and has several companies using a private mail box for an address. My opinion is stay away. read more

I was dissatisfied with the customer service provided when I called requesting a quote. I was asked multiple times how quickly I was prepared to do the job. I was informed that they are focusing on fences no longer waterproofing. When I indicated that I had a fencing job I was asked what I am wanting to spend. I was confused: how can I know what to spend when I don't know what a fence costs?? I was told that 100 linear square feet will typically cost me $6,000 which does not include the cost to remove the previous fence. I looked it up: this is over double what this should cost according to research. When I asked for an idea of what it costs to remove a fence I was told "it all depends". Of the three quotes we received, DH Land Pros far exceeded the competition. The owner Dan impressed us with his extensive knowledge and down-to-earth personality. He created a plan for us that included grading, irrigation, top soil, sod, and a bark perimeter. It addressed our needs perfectly while still meeting our budget requirements! This review is based on trying to obtain a quote for a flagstone pathway from this business. Upon seeing the really positive reviews on Yelp, I spoke with Dan on the phone to request a quote. I also met him in person at our home when he came to see the work. In both instances, Dan spoke with me in a way that felt condescending. When we met, he came 5-10 minutes late to our 2pm appointment and proceeded to inform me that he arrived at 1:30 and no one was here. He acknowledged the appointment was for 2pm but the way he communicated made it seem like I wasted his time. He was only able to give me a 2pm appointment for which I had to leave work super early. He barely took a couple of minutes to understand the scope of our work before declaring it was too tiny to even consider quoting. One of the other reasons we considered this company was they do fences and other work which we will need later. He said unless we have a "big" job, it would not make sense for his company to take on. (He did a rough calculation and let me know that jobs like this cost upwards of $7500. Mentioning this so you can judge if your project is a match for this company. ) He could have saved everyone time if he had been clear about this on the phone. He then proceeded to comment on our landscaping design, our patio roof (which he found over-engineered) and other aspects of our home including the size of our front yard. **I couldn't help but wonder how he would have communicated if my husband had been here instead of me. He did seem to know his stuff and I did appreciate his being upfront. I was disappointed by the patronizing attitude and the waste of my time.** I look forward to taking my "tiny" project elsewhere. Dan and his crew are amazing. We had them completely rehab our front yard that included pouring a concrete parking pad, new grass, irrigation, pathway lighting and all new plants. Start to finish it took 4 days including working around some fall weather. His whole team showed up promptly every morning, worked all day, were very courteous to my wife and I, and then completely cleaned up at the end of each day. He power washed the whole place himself once the job was finished as well. You can tell that he's building a long term great business and ensures everything was absolutely buttoned up before leaving. I was also pleasantly surprised to see he was using very high quality commercial level gear for the irrigation and lighting, rather than cheap off the shelf stuff. His rates are very competitive as well. I definitely plan to use him and his team again in the spring for some larger work. read more

I needed to replace a fence in my back yard and hired DH because he had such a good rating. When he came out to give me an estimate I found him to be very condescending but thought I could deal with that because of his rating. The crew was very nice and the fence they built for me looks very good but I did have problems with the two gates, staining and Dan. On gate one they had it so I could only lock it from the street side so I would have to walk around the block to get to the lock. They came out and fixed that right away which is nice. The other problem with that gate is that it swings out into the back street and when open hides the street sign and you cannot see if cars are coming. The previous gate swung into a step area in my yard that had been filled in with dirt when they did the fence. When I asked Dan about this he said they didn't fill it in and he was not going to dig it out so the gate had to swing into the street. Then we have the second gate which goes to the carport. It now swings to the right and blocks off the storage area when open and not to the left like the previous one. That small fence area previously had 4 posts to hold the fence and gate. It now has 3 posts and is hooked to the house. I think they turned the gate so it latched on the left because its not as sturdy where hooked to the house. Dan told me it was exactly like the one that was there and they didn't change a thing. We are the ones that have lived here for 30 years. We also paid Dan extra to have two coats of stain put on the fence. When I questioned him about the second coat he told me the second coat is when they back brush it and that makes two. Guess I misunderstood what two coats were. I thought one coat had to dry even a couple hours before the second one. He said he would have to charge more to have it done like that because that would take four days. My fence isn't that big. I then told him they had missed a few areas and there were a lot of visible runs and his reply was "runs, its only a fence". In the past month since my fence was built Dan has moved to Florida so like he said "he can't come a few thousand miles for me to show him what I am talking about" which I asked him to do before I found out he had moved. The only good thing that came out of our conversation was that I had the honor of insulting him for the way he talks to people.
