I was made aware of Dexters Deli after I adopted my dog and I'll admit, the name confused me at first. I had previously visited the Del Mar location and came to this one due to its closer proximity. As you would expect in North Park, parking is difficult. It does have a small parking lot but it's shared with other businesses and every time I've passed by, it's always full. While I love the support local, the customer service was a little lacking with no greeting when entering and not a lot of details when answering my questions. But other than that I am so glad they have a wide selection of healthier items, cute toys and above all the dog cakes and cupcakes. It was exactly what I was looking for and it's an extra plus that they can write your pets name on it. read more

A dog's sniffing paradise. This is the spot for toys, treats, food, supplies, medications, and of course their signature baked goods -- birthday cupcakes, cakes, all the cute things. It's perfect for everyday essentials, but also the place to go when your dog deserves a little celebration. Whether it's a birthday, an adoptaversary, or a "just because" treat, they've got you covered. Every staff member is friendly, knowledgeable, and always gives my pup a treat, which Enzo absolutely loves. They have a dog bowl outside, a treat bar, and a great rewards program -- super helpful if you buy the same products regularly since you can earn points or even snag a free item after a certain number of purchases. I love it here. I believe they have multiple locations in San Diego too, which makes it even easier to stop by whenever your pup needs something or deserves a little spoiling. read more

This was the second time visiting Dexter's Deli and this time, our dog came with us just to make sure that he liked the place and could pick out his favorite bone. Actually he found the new "slow bowl" full of kibble and decided to make sure it worked for him. He loved it and we decided that it was a wonderful product along with all the other innovative and healthy choices in the store. From the food, to the pet apparel to the toys, this store seemed to have it all. As always, when we review the store, we comment on the service; (individual interactions) as well. This time we (pup too) would like to say that "Charlie" was most welcoming, knowledgeable about the products, and accommodating to all our needs. read more

Had to find a dog cake for my dog's birthday and this was one of the first places to come up. Drove up and was glad to find a bunch of cakes that you can just grab and defrost for the next day. Amazing price at $20 and it was split between 7 dogs. The cake is humans grade so you can eat it. Super convenient and the writing on the cake is amazing for doing it in under a couple minutes. read more

Came in to pick up a few things for my friend's sweet pup, Gizmo, who was nearing the end of his life. We grabbed a human grade peanut butter cake which is safe for human consumption along with some strongly scented meat snacks to help encourage Gizmo to eat a little more before crossing the rainbow bridge to doggie heaven. The staff? Very helpful and compassionate. They didn't just ring us up and send us on our way, they listened, made suggestions with care, and treated the situation with genuine kindness. That kind of compassion goes a long way when you're navigating an emotional moment. The store itself is great, with an assortment of goodies and essentials for dogs of all sizes, personalities, and needs. Whether you're spoiling your pup or finding something more practical, there's surely something here for every four-legged friend. In Gizmo's case a tri-paw :) Give your pup some extra pets and treats today. Thanks DD! read more

We have been buying pup cakes, pup cupcakes, ice cream here for several years. I usually allow our dog to choose a toy from here on their birthday. Customer Service: Excellent! Staff here is always nice and helpful. We are always greeted, asked if we need any help and if we bring our fur babies given a dog treat. Parking: It has its own lot but it's tight, limited, and shared with other businesses. Discounts: Military and member deals and discounts. It's free to join the membership. We will continue purchasing items from this store. Always great customer service and my dogs love the treats from here! read more

Came in and stumbled across this place as I was visiting from Santa Barbara and my fur babies bday is this weekend. I came in here twice the past two days I was in town.. that says a lot how awesome this store is ! I bought my dog a treat, two toys , and came back for his cake. They even put his name on there free of charge. Such a great spot. Parking is out front , but space is super tight and shared with the surrounding business. But the last two days I was there I had no issues parking. I look forward to each time I vacay in out there, I'd take a "must " visit to pick up my paw-child a toy, treat, or even a cake. I love a place with natural or healthy foods/treats for animals. HUGE PLUS! read more

This is one of my happy places! I love that they're always running deals! with one thing or another, so drop in and dont miss out. They have a really good selection of products, from treats, toppers, food, frozen food, pet bakery items, toys, leashes, you name it, they got it! All good quality stuff that you can trust for your pets. I love that they're in a little shopping strip with its own parking because we know how North Park can be! Its definitely one of my favorite place to shop for my pets, as I always find what I need and sometimes more! They also give back to the community and are involved with supporting adoption events, as well as they also offer adoption starter kits for those who have a newly adopted pet! Its such an amazing local pet shop I'm happy to support :) read more

I hadn't been to this location before, my dog makes it the point to come every time that we're near the other Dexter's deli location, so since I was with her we decided to go inside. I love this place! If you love your pet, come here This place is the best, we love getting lamb and liver treats for our pup here. They have nothing but high quality and speciality items at this pet store. Staff are friendly as well. We recently got a new hands free leash and harness from here is all. The staff are friendly and always give our dog treats. It is on the pricier side, but worth it. The parking lot is awful and tiny though (just warning you!) it's north park! There is a parking structure across the street as well. read more

As new puppy parents, we've had so many questions, so we were incredibly grateful for Nicole's help at Dexter's Deli! Being senior pup parents, you really forget what it was like to have a brand new puppy! Nicole was so kind, patient, and genuinely excited to help us find the best food options for our puppy. She gave us samples to try, provided helpful handouts, and even took the time to look up stores in Temecula that carry the same brand of food. It's rare to find customer service that feels this personal and thoughtful. Nicole made us feel supported and confident as we start this new adventure with our pup. Thank you so much, Nicole. We'll definitely be back! read more

I want to start off with I regret not getting the woman's name who helped me. Before I headed over I called to check for a specific item (an item I thought I wanted/needed). She was very genuine and confirmed that they had plenty of wholesome foods inside the store even though the brand I was inquiring about was not sold there. She even offered to order some to the store. Very thoughtful. Once I arrived the excellent service continued, she remembered our phone conversation from earlier that morning and began breaking down all the different styles of food and how they can be introduced into my cats diet. Disclosure, I'm moving away from highly processed kibble to a more wholesome diet. She was knowledgeable about multiple brands and gave numerous recommendations. Even showed me some good tinctures made for liver/gastrointestinal health. I got a mix of (frozen) raw food, freeze dried, can, another better alternative kibble bag. So far my cats have loved everything I've brought home [except the no longer free feed all day on kibble]. She even handed me a couple fliers for how to start raw diets and a clinic that does dental cleanings. 5 stars, possibly 6. The best part a rewards program ? 1& 3 Saturday are "caturdays" where cat stuff is 20% off. I'm satisfied. read more

I've gone to Dexter's Deli for two years now and I love my experience each time! The only thing "bad" I can think of is the parking situation (spaces are so tiny and hard to maneuver around) but this has nothing to do with the store haha. I've gotten my dog a birthday cake, a birthday cupcake, and some birthday hats before. They're able to write something on the cakes which is awesome. In my most recent visit, I bought a bag of peanut butter and beef balls to put into a toy but when I got home, I noticed they were all smushed inside. I called them the same day and the lady that I was talking to was so understanding, helpful, and kind! I came back the same week and they exchanged my bag. I will continue to come to Dexter's Deli! read more

It was our dog's first adoptaversary and we were motivated to make the day very special for her, so I called in advance to order the bone cake in princess pink. I was surprised to hear that you couldn't really "order" it. Basically, they get cakes in on Thursday, and can't be certain what they are going to get, but if they do get it they will hold it for you. Well, I probably called three times to see if it came in and to ensure that they would hold it for me until after work. They said they had it and they did. So that Friday, after work, it took a bit of fighting in the parking lot (small, crowded and very narrow), but I managed to get to Dexter's Deli to get the cake. It was adorable, but it said "Happy Birthday" and I wanted it to say "Happy Adoptaversary" but they don't make or decorate the cakes in house, and they all come the same way. However, they were able to put my dog's name on the cake, but somehow they didn't even have matching white icing to put the name on so we got it in an odd shade of hot pink. I know it is a dog cake and some people might wonder why I care, but I was spending $36 for a dog cake for photo ops and fun with my dog, so of course I care. I did get a chance to browse around the store while they were writing on the cake. It is quite overpriced, but they do have several cute birthday hats and some beautifully painted cookies for dogs. I decided to get her a squeaky ball and a bag of "Gotcha Day" treats. I left feeling a bit disappointed in my cake experience, but when I brought it home, my husband was super happy with how it looked, and my dog absolutely loved it. It is really much too big for one dog, so she has pieces in the freezer that will last weeks. The cake actually looked really cute in all of her pictures, and I don't know where to get a cuter cake, so I decided to still give Dexter's Deli four stars. read more

Dexter's Deli is located in the same plaza as La Creperie with limited parking. Dexter's Deli is also right next door to Verbatim Books in North Park (behind it). My husband, our little girl dog and I decided to stop by this pet store on a Sunday morning, around 10:30 am. My husband decided to get our little girl a jerky (I only paid $2.36 for a thin, wide slice of beef). She was so happy that she placed the dried meat in her mouth as we walked out of the store and to the car (lol). Employees were friendly when we were visiting the store. Although somewhat on the small side, the store had plenty of items you'd need for your pet. There is also some baked items that includes cakes, treats, pupcakes. The next time I visit Verbatim Books (which allows leashed dogs inside by the way), I will make sure to make a stop at Dexter's Deli too. read more

Came on my pups bday to get him a bday cake! They had them premade in the frozen section and you just thaw them at home for about an hour and you're good to go. They were so cute and also had the option of cupcakes, or mini cupcakes. I ordered the small round one for my boy. The ingredients are human grade (which I love) and edible by people as well. There is sugar in the cake which is why I opted for the small size and gave him thing slices so he wouldn't get into a sugar high (but I think he still did). I also ate a slice of cake and so did a few of my family members. It was good to me! Almost like a banana bread but not quite. This store is sooo cute! I can't wait to come back and look around more. They have so many natural food products and snacks. The store is so clean and the staff are awesome. My dogs were greeted with a treat upon entering. Usually my boy doesn't take treats from strangers but he did that day and truly enjoyed them. They have so many cute accessories.m, leashes, toys. I'll definitely be back soon. PS they have a loyalty program. read more

Birthday cakes for dogs from Dexters are inexpensive and personalized on the spot for same-day takeout. We were told on the way out that the cake was human-grade so we were welcome to try a slice. Wow! Simply put. My friend bought a pup cake for her puppy's birthday and my husband and I thought it would be a great place to get a cake for his work's elderly "shop dog." Rocky is such a great boy and we wanted to treat him with something special. I had my husband call ahead, order, and pay over the phone. I work right down the street and thought it'd be easier if I just ran in and out on my lunch break. Finding out the challenging parking of this place made me thankful we had prepared. It was kind of a nightmare to park in. Their little shopping center is a popular one, right in the heart of North Park where many people walk. So be prepared for that. But definitely don't let it sway your motivation to visit this amazing Pet Deli. I was greeted with a pawesome pup cake that was pleasantly customized as such. Rocky is pawesome and we're so glad they could add that verbiage to such a small cake. Rocky was also so pleased, he refused to share and ate the whole thing! I don't think any of us were expecting nothing less of enjoyment. Thank you for providing such an amazing product for our fur friends! read more

We love coming to Dexter's Deli! Especially for our pup's birthday. We've been coming here for 4 years now and the pupcake is always a hit! For her first birthday we got her a whole cake! That lasted a couple weeks as a delicious frozen treat! The 5" cake is great to share if you have other pups (RUFFly up to 6 dogs)! Please note that these cakes are only available to purchase in store and not online. Dexter's is one of the few shops that sell cupcakes and cakes for your dogs at a reasonable price! Note: if you buy a pupcake, thaw it out in the refrigerator for about 20-30min! If you want the treat to last longer while your pup nibbles at it, keep it frozen! read more

Dexter's Deli is my favorite little boutique pet store! They carry everything from special pet food (fresh, raw, kibble), to treats, doggy birthday cakes, toys, and more. They even host a monthly mobile non-anesthetic dental cleaning service for dogs! I first discovered Dexter's when I was searching for a birthday cake for my dog's 1st birthday. You can customize an order or pick up one of their premade cakes or cupcakes! I also got my pup a cute birthday celebration hat and bandana. A few months later, I decided to switch to a different brand of food recommended by a breeder and couldn't find it in-stores anywhere. Dexter's sold that brand, though not in the specific type/flavor that I was looking for. No problem! They were able to special order it for me at no additional cost, and I didn't have to pay the shipping fee had I ordered it myself online. They also have a rewards system where if you buy a certain number of bags of food, you get one free. They also have monthly free treat giveaways! And in store, they also have quite a few kibble samples in case you wanted to test something out before committing to a whole bag. Stop by and check Dexter's out! Even if they don't have exactly what you're looking for, the friendly staff can either find you a great alternative or somehow miraculously make it happen. read more

I have been a huge fan since I stumbled by Dexter's Deli in 2017. I normally take my pups here twice a month, usually after visiting Nate's Dog Park and every single time I come in I can expect to amazing service. Usually my girl dog Dakota is very weary of snacks given to her but when a team member offers her a treat and she accepts I usually buy the item. Yesterday I came by with my pups and stocked them back up on their favorite wet food and some treats, as we were checking out a team member asked and offered a little freeze dried pig hearts by Small Batch. These are quality treats, a little pricey and my dogs favorites! Thankfully the team member at Dexter's Deli was really patient, kind and generous after my two poms kept asking for more! Other than the quality of food, treats and merchandise at Dexter's Deli, I am really thankful for the kindness of their staff! Make sure to sign up for the email list, they offer coupons or events. We've been to a couple like their Halloween costumes! Oh and sign up for their phone number membership, it's free and with every purchase you accumulate points to receive discounts!
