Genuinely one of the best experiences I've had shopping for my dogs. You can immediately tell this place is built with real care, everything is made fresh daily, and the quality shows. Gunner, the owner, was incredibly helpful and patient. He took the time to walk me through the different options, explain what goes into each product, and even break down the benefits for my dogs. You don't get that level of service often, it felt honest, not like a sales pitch. After seeing everything in person, there's no comparison to the big brands pushing "healthy" with aggressive marketing. This is the real deal read more

Maxota Raw - Pet Stores Near Me - San Diego, California

This is the absolute best food you can give your dog! The owners treat their clients (humans and dogs) like family; they get to know your name and your furry friends' names too. The dog in my profile picture had all sorts of orthopedic problems due to his previous life style. We started him on Maxota and never looked back. If there were two things I never had to worry about with my little guy, it was his digestive system or his coat. Now that he has gone to doggy heaven my wife and I occasionally foster dogs, and the first place we go is here for his/her food. They also don't keep secrets, if you're in a pinch for food they will tell you what you need to feed your dog, how to prep it and why it is important. Not only will you get the best food, you can strike up a conversation about their food prep, canine digestive health, etc. Please, for the love of Fido, give this couple a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

If you're a dog person, you really need to read this review. Im not sure exactly where to start but we have a 1 year old Vizsla and if you dont know, this breed is high energy and kinda sketchy. I am not one of these pet snobs but our guy had been having problems with his "movements" ever since he was born and something was not normal with his digestive system. His poop was always soft and almost runny so over the past year we tried different kinds of foods- different kibble, perscription, and even vet suggested supplements . We followed the suggested transitions and nothing seemed to work. One day, my buddy EW (shout out) mentioned he gives his dogs Green Goo and recommended Maxota. Long story short, we went down to the store and met AJ and she gave us the tour and educational briefing. AJ was great! She was super chill and didnt put on a sales pitch. We grabbed a few containers of the GG and went home. Thats when it all tha magic started happening. About a day later, we immediately noticed results. Everything was solid and normal. I know this sounds gross but Im being totally honest. Aside from that, our guy was acting better, his coat was silky shiny, and he now seems to be happy. I know that sounds like a kook, but it kinda makes sence- when we dont feel good, were not at out best. Anyways, we decided to take the more econocimal route and buy our meat at Costco and mix in the GG. This seems to work best for us. Anyways, weve been on it for a few months now and it was truely the best thing we did for him. Im not gonna lie, its not cheap but considering where we were its totally worth it, plus having the piece of mind that we are giving him the very best nutrition possible it totally worth it. So if you want to give your dog the very best possible nutrition, I cant recommend Maxota enough. read more

The most passionate dog food makers/business owners. They sell different types of dog food, treats (even cat products). My dog won't eat unless it's mixed with their duck dog food. They genuinely care for their customers and want your dog to live a happy life. My dogs coat has never been shinier! read more

Just left the shop with Winston, after contemplating this guys diet from cheap kibble to Fresh Pet I decided to listen to AJ's advice (Shop Employee) and I purchased the Green Goo mix in (16.99$) She made great recommendations on how to make it and provided me with clear cut instructions that were very simple to follow. Came home, mix it up with ground beef I purchased for $6 at Albertsons. Never in my 1.5 years of knowing my dog have I ever seen him eat so quickly, usually picks at his food throughout the day. With the combination of the two for around 20-25 bucks it left me with close to a weeks worth of food for my 15lb dog, In comparison to the fresh pet I've been feeding him which is close to $20 that he finishes in about the same time frame. Although, I feel as though I'm spending the extra 20$ a month for a potential 1-5 years extra I have with a happy dog. I feel very confident I've made a great decision in taking AJ and Gunner's advice. read more

No debate this is the best food and treats you can possibly give your dog! I have a French bulldog, he was always excited to eat but he is (literally) jumping up and down while I weigh his food now. Their treats like their whole sardines, chicken chips, bones, etc. are also amazing. The sardines are my boy's favorite thing EVER. They are super knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Will answer any questions you have. If you're unsure just stop in and talk to them! read more

Short review: I feel so blessed to have found Aj & Gunner at Maxota Raw. I was in town visiting San Diego and happened to find their store in a desperate search to find the best food I could give my dogs. Long story short my dog Kiwii had been throwing up bile on and off in the morning for the last few months. During my 4 day stay in San Diego she threw up every morning until I switched her over to a completely raw diet from Maxota and she has not had that issue since. Long review: Here's the back story: I'm a crazy dog Mom and am constantly researching and buying things to optimize my dogs health. I believe in a holistic more natural approach. I have two terrier rescues and my older dog Kiwii would throw up bile on some mornings. I've tried all types of top tier brands such as Open Farms, Rawbble, Kiwi Kitchens, Ziwi peak, Just Dogs and even made them homemade bone broth and organic food to help with her gut issues. I've also spent hundreds of dollars on supplements and probiotics. These things would help for periods of time but were either not effective long term or she would get bored and wouldn't want to eat it anymore. I used to have to chase her down to eat her food or hand feed her. She's a picky eater and would get bored of her food fast but now with Maxota she loves to eat. She licks her plate clean and waits for her brother to finish his food so she can see if there's anything she can lick up though he never leaves a crumb behind. I take what the vet says with a grain of salt. If their advice is crap keep digging and do your own research. My vet didn't even try to find out what was wrong with my dog. They prescribed me Pepcid ac to give to her. First off, that is medicine for humans and that is just a bandaid to hide the problem and not to actually get to the root cause and solve the problem. If your dog has stomach issues do not give them crap Royal Canine or Science diet that they recommend. Come on look at that food. That is the farthest from natural. All the vet schools are funded by these big name kibble companies. That is why they recommend them. They also spray the kibble with an additive to make the crap food more palatable and for the dogs to want to eat the food and get addicted to it. I saw it advertised in a magazine first hand. Are you surprised that they say that a grain free diet is bad for you dog? Think for yourself. They have been on Maxota raw food and treats for over a month now and they are thriving. My older dog that was throwing up bile has not had that issue anymore and she is so playful and energetic. She wants treats all day and finishes her food every time. Both of my dogs coat is beautiful and grows so fast now. I also want to note that the quality of food is the best human grade food that you can buy. My dogs used to have a chicken allergy but I found out that it's the quality of chicken that matters. I gave them chicken treats from Maxota and they did not have any issues because they use Mary's chicken. I am so thankful for the work Aj & Gunner do. If you truly care about the health of your pet I recommend talking to them at Maxota and they will guide you on what to do. I know from first hand experience how it has changed my dogs' life and health. I can keep on ranting forever but I think you get the point. . read more

One of the ingredients in the food I got here I local bee pollen. Think about that. I can't say enough about this place! I rescued a senior dog that was underweight and had low muscle mass. We tried different options but luckily I live down the street from Maxolta Raw. I stopped in and spoke with Gunner and AJ and the knowledge these two have is incredible! I love that they make it fresh in store and in small batches. I started Milo on their food and it has been a huge transformation. He is lean muscle and has lots of energy. His "fog" has cleared up and our vet is super happy with the results. I love that we can rotate protein sources and I know he's getting a fresh batch each time I come into the store. We also foster senior dogs and they have helped us bring 3 foster dogs now from underweight and poor nutrition to healthy. One of our foster dogs had an undiagnosed digestive issue that resulted in huge loose stools and stinky breath. Gunner gave us suggestions and recommendations. Within a month she was evened out and gaining weight steadily. All our fosters only eat Maxolta now. Gunner and AJ really care about proper nutrition and care of your dog. Great people, great business, amazing nutrition. read more

This place is the best. Super friendly, super transparent, and super high quality. AJ gave me some great, no pressure, recommendations and Gunner even gave me a tour of how it's all made in the kitchen. Very family environment. I'm going to be coming back for a long time read more

Wow, these guys saved my dog!!!! if I can give them a 10 stars I would. My dog has not been eating very well and when she does eat, she's been getting allergies, licking her paws or white face, turned orange, and Rusty from the allergies, but the food was giving her and I don't give her dog food. I thought I was giving her holistic food, but even the holistic foods from his big corporations are bad! I'm definitely going to recommend these people to my friends and family and anybody I meet who has a dog or a cat because our pets are dying, younger and younger, and they're sicker and sicker even in their younger age. read more

My son was looking for a pet, so we went here last weekend. He had so much fun here and confused about what to buy for a pet. He had so many choices, but he ended up having a goldfish. He loves the movie, Nemo, that's why he wanted a fish. They have different kinds and breeds of cats, dogs, and birds, too! read more

I don't know if words can completely express our gratitude & appreciation of the knowledge & food source for our 2 husky pups, that we get from buying here. The behavior change is 100% noticeable when they eat the food prepared. We use chicken chips ( chicken fingers) for training & it works the best for us. I'm so grateful we have a meal plan each week & I like the family & community vibe that we don't get at large commercial pet store. Our pups love the team & if we walk by the store when they are closed they sit & wait to see if the door will open. The team has also educated my husband & I beyond any book or video. We will forever buy from them with confidence that our dogs are getting the best for their quality of heath and longevity. Thank you A.J, Emma & Gunner for all you do & the passion you poor into your top grade food, store and the love for our boys! read more

This is by far the freshest, most nutritious, food you can feed your furry friend. I chatted with AJ and Gunner a month or so ago about improving the health of my 12 year old Cockapoo. We put together a meal plan for my little buddy and there is absolutely no going back! My dog absolutely loves the food, has more energy, and no longer has hip/joint issues. I highly recommend stopping by, chatting with AJ and Gunner, and checking out their fresh food and treats. I promise, you will be blown away by the ingredients they use and the care and love they put in to each batch. read more

We have two Schipperke puppies and an eight year old Cocker Spaniel. We were completely ignorant about our dog's nutrition, and fed them store bought kibble. Then we were introduced to Maxota Raw's founders, AJ and Gunner. We visited their store, got a tour of their amazing set up and were educated on the benefits of raw food. Fast forward 1.5 years and our dogs are about as healthy as they can be! One of our pups was having digestive issues so AJ patiently worked with me on several options. We move him to a denser protein like venison and his symptoms disappeared overnight! Our groomer commented that our Cocker's skin has never looked better. Best of all, their poops are tiny and practically odorless, a sign they are metabolizing every bit of their nutritional intake. Did I mention the large selection of ready made raw treats, making it easy for them to have a 100% raw diet. Last, but by no means least, our vet bills are practically nonexistent because we have three happy and healthy pups, thanks to Maxota and specifically to AJ and Gunner! If you're serious about your pet's health and nutrition, run don't walk to Maxota Raw! You'll never look back. read more
