Definitely solid BBQ. Sides are particularly good, especially the freshness of the mac salad and coleslaw (the fries aren't crunchy enough). I did find the meats to be a little underseasoned, but I think that's a regional BBQ style thing---and the sauces represented a few different regional cuisines, and added the right sorts of flavors. I particularly liked the smoked turkey, which isn't so common to find, and which I thought had a particularly clear smoky taste, although my dad liked that the least and preferred the ribs. That said, I've had other BBQ elsewhere that I found more impressive than here (ie Dino's in Upstate NY, as well as places in BBQ capitals like Kansas City), so it's not quite a 5-star for me. Although perhaps they should get extra points for being very good food in a middle-of-nowhere road-trip-friendly location. read more

Wow....you want a mouth watering super tender brisket come here. Decided to come here with some people from work and it was delicious and super easy to order and food came out really quickly. They have some limited picnic table seating inside but no a ton. They offer sauces that you put on which is a plus cause you can control how saucy you want your meats!! I got the white sauce and sweet sauce, both were so good but I guess they are known for the white sauce so DEFINITELY get that one too. read more

After spending nearly 20 hours in my car, thanks to unplowed snow in Indiana, unsalted ice in Ohio and a three-truck accident that shut down I-80 in Pennsylvania, I gave up the notion of attending my son's football game in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as well as any chances I had of making a Baby Jesus joke once I arrived. After watching my ETA change from 8:19 a.m. to 4:54 p.m. in several depressing increments throughout my drive from Chicago, I cried uncle while nearly 250 miles away from my destination. I pulled off the latest alternative route and pulled up the livestream of the game. After watching the visiting Colgate University Raiders route the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks 48-6 from a Snappy's gas station, I decided to head home. But before embarking on the 475-mile drive back to Chicago, I had to eat. The food options from Chicago to Pennsylvania are pretty good if you're willing to drive a few miles off the interstate. When you can't or are short on time, you're stuck with Sbarro's, Burger King and whichever other fast-food chain occupies the rest stops along your route--provided they don't close at 8 p.m.--so I was determined to get a decent meal before driving home. A quick Yelp search revealed that Devil's BBQ would provide that meal. Plus, as a 12-year recipient of a Catholic School education, I liked the irony of heading to Bethlehem, only to end up in hell. I gotta say, if Old Scratch is serving up BBQ like this in H-E-double-hockey-sticks, sign me up for a stay in Hades, 'cause brother, it can't get much better than this. The Devil's BBQ is a quick turn off the main fast-food-laden street in Brookville, next to what looks like a decent local bar. The exterior of the building itself is what you'd expect--and want--in a good BBQ place. Half roadside shack, half scary house of the woman down the block who sits on her steps in her housecoat, eating out of a can, drinking out of a jar and swearing at every living creature that comes within 50 yards. The inside decor is clean and simple. More importantly, everyone was extremely friendly when I walked in. Not quite living up to the name, I guess, but a friendly staff is better than some sulfur-smelling guy with horns and goat hooves who might banish you to a lifetime of hot yoga, like, really hot yoga, like 1,000-degree yoga, if you say the wrong thing. The food? Unreal. Possibly the best BBQ I've ever had. And as I've stated in other Yelp reviews, I'm fat, so I know good BBQ. This was probably the best yet. I ordered a half slab of ribs with sides of coleslaw and baked beans. They gave me the macaroni salad instead of the slaw, which was good, especially the chunks of cheese, but I didn't pay too much attention to it, certainly not enough to send it back for coleslaw. If we're talking sides, MY GOD the baked beans! Sweet and spicy and perfect. The Devil's baked beans are now in my top-10 food list and were almost worth the white-knuckle overnight ride from Chicago. And the ribs were that well-worn cliche: fall-off-the-bone delicious. I also ordered the Devil Horns, which were bacon-wrapped jalapenos, and pretty much were, dare I say, a religious experience. I'm embarrassed to admit I couldn't finish my meal, despite the aforementioned girth, so I packed it up and secured it in my trunk for the ride home, knowing that if I hadn't locked it away, the BBQ-sauce-soaked steering wheel of my rental would've resulted in a $250 ding to my credit card for "extensive cleaning." Upon returning home on Sunday morning, I perched the leftovers on Dante's second shelf of the fridge. On Monday, I gave into temptation. I ate my BBQ while my wife and daughter ate ham sandwiches. Could I have shared? Maybe. Should I have shared? Are you kidding? At the risk of violating the 11th commandment, "thou shall not excessively alliterate," I have to say that plate of BBQ leftovers was demonically dangerous, damningly delightful, dastardly delectable and diabolically delicious. To think that Adam sent society into a tailspin by giving into Eve's request to bite, of all things, an apple. An apple! He should have held out for some of the Devil's BBQ. What a dope. read more

The staff is so nice, and attentive. Brisket was amazing, pulled pork was fantastic. Their sweet barbecue sauce was really good, Carolina vinegar barbecue sauce was good, and the white barbecue sauce was amazing! Get the season fries - they are fresh & taste like barbecue potato chips! Mac & cheese was a quality vegetarian option. Baked beans are incredible and the cornbread muffin was so moist. I was just passing through Clarion and tried Devil's BBQ because of the good Yelp reviews. It's a hole-in-the-wall rustic place. They don't spend much on decorations. But the owner is dead serious about his BBQ. I don't think he's trying to cater to anyone's taste but his own, isn't afraid to experiment, and ain't toning down the spice for anyone. I was there on a quiet weeknight, but the place was full of locals, some out to celebrate something and some just stopping in to pick up their carryout. The owner and the woman working the register knew everyone (except me) and everyone was happy to be there. The BBQ meat was good, but I'm here primarily to recommend the coleslaw which, on that night, had a touch of horseradish (because he thought he'd give it a try). The coleslaw was a perfect match to the pulled pork and brisket. Next time, I'll go there on purpose but, in the meantime, if anyone reading this is within driving range, I encourage you to give Devil's a try. They also have YooHoo in bottles. read more

No question - we goin' to Brookville. ...with an appetite! Devil's BBQ offers the best meal en route, 600+ miles (and beyond.) And the folks are so nice, to boot. We've tried the smoked brisket, ribs and pulled pork - can't pick a fav; all amazing and unique in flavor to other BBQ, nationwide. Sauces are bangin' - I especially love the white sauce; pairs perfectly with the meats, seasoned fries and my fingers. (No shame.) SMOKED CHEESE! The peppered was solidly recommended - we purchased one brick at first visit, two more when passing back through. I'd like some right now. On a drive from Chicago to New York, we pulled off the highway to get lunch in Pennsylvania, I used the phone app to find a restaurant near by, as we knew we did not want traditional fast food and it led us to Devil's. The cashier who greeted us was very pleasant and explained everything on the menu in such a great way, the only thing that made it hard to decide was that everything was so good. I had the brisket and my daughter had the ribs. It was indeed true southern style barbecue that was so tender the meat easily broke off as you picked it up with the fork, the flavor was perfect. Absolutely lives up to the Hype. Cute little off the beaten path place that is a diamond in the rough of long road trip travel food joints. About 2 minutes off the highway, the place absolutely lived up to the hype of the other reviewers. We consider ourselves a bit of BBQ snobs and everyone in our family devoured these meals with ease and pleasure. Even our 5yr old loved his chicken tenders, and our 8yr old enjoyed her 1/3 of pulled pork so much she got a second for when she got hungry later in our drive. The staff was so nice and accommodating. The place was very clean, with outside and indoor seating. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. We will be back next time we head west for sure!! read more
