    Poached Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich
    Dennis T.

I had sandwiches from Devilicious for the first time at the Las Vegas Foodie Fest a week ago. The food I sampled was great tasting but I experienced two problems. Although my wife and I had already paid for 2 Poached Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwiches about 20 minutes earlier, the food truck reported that it ran out of lobster on my order. So, my wife got hers but I did not get mine. Devilicious was kind enough to offer any other sandwich at no cost to make up for this loss, and an All Crab Crab Cake Sandwich was chosen as a substitute. But just before I bit into this sandwich I saw and pulled out two long, thin human hairs resting on the egg that hovered on top of the crab cake. After I shook this off and debated what to do, I decided to go ahead and eat the sandwich. The hairs were now gone, after all. The All Crab Crab Cake Sandwich, which contained tomato, lettuce, red and white onions, and the sunny-side up fried egg over a crab cake inside an English muffin, was delicious. The crab cake had a small backbite to it, as I believe is appropriate for a crab cake; and the warm running egg yolk spilling over the crab just took the taste experience up another notch. Truffle French Fries topped by Parmesan splinters were very good but not particularly memorable. My wife generously allowed me two bites of her Lobster Grilled Cheese, and they were a yummy mix of lobster and melted cheese. But one would think that at the end of the first day of the festival, Devilicious should have noticed that its stock of lobster was almost depleted, and therefore ordered an ample supply to restock for the second day, when I was there; or planned better to have enough lobster on hand to last for two full days at the outset. This would have enabled this popular food truck to avoid running out of its featured crustacean just 2 hours after the festival opened on Sunday. And, perhaps caps or hair nets are in order for all food handlers! So, five stars for the food, but only two for execution, on this particular visit.

    Duck Confir melt

Devilicious was parked at WonderCon 2014 today, and they were one of the few I seemed to be attracted to for the unique menu and good prices! (other truck being The Tasting Spoon) today i was stuck between the duck confit grilled cheese and the pork belly melt! i was highly considering getting mix, like the duck confit melt with some pork belly, BUT for it being my first time, I decided to go with their regular offering to get the true taste of their menu! so the duck confit melt was chosen, along with some truffle parmesan french fries! All together about $16, not too bad for the amount of food, but keep reading for the minor improvement I wish for! (Don't worry still 5 stars! the melt was delicious!! the duck was tender, juicy, shredded nicely and had a good sear and flavor to it! not too strong but a very wowing taste! there were also slices of caramelized onions, sharp and crunchy, and ooey gooey mozzarella cheese and gruyere cheese! the bread was not too thick, crispy, and soaked up all the delicious flavor! ONLY downside was for the price, i wish there was more meat! the truffle parm fries were amazingly delicious! some of the crispiest french fries i have ever had! a big bowl of them, with black truffle oil and some grated truffles as well, at first it doesn't seem to have truffles but once you start eating holy moly are these amazing!! on top were a mound of sliced/grated parmesan cheese! mmm sharp and salty! the only downside to this was the saltiness and wish the cheese had been mixed in more so the hot fries can melt it away! Overall, still a 5 star service! great service, fast ordering/food receiving and delicious food!

Devilicious is the only San Diego food truck I've been to multiple times and it is one of very few local trucks I know by name. This time we found it at the 2013 U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge & 3D Art Expo at the 'B' Street Cruise Ship Terminal Pier. I had the Lobster Grilled Cheese, with caramelized onions, tomatoes and jack and cheddar cheeses. I liked it but wasn't amazed - the savory tomato base overpowered any intrinsic richness there may have been in the lobster. Maybe I'm a purist and might have preferred just a traditional lobster roll, straight up, which I realize would have taken more lobster and a higher price. Still, the Lobster Grilled Cheese was a solid sandwich even if it didn't communicate the rich decadence I expected from its lobster base. My wife had the Duck Confit Grilled Cheese, with caramelized red onions, gruyere, mozzarella, and a "port honey sauce". She loved it. I tried it too - very good. I love duck. The kiddos had a plain grilled cheese, which was rich, buttery and also very well received.

One of the better food trucks that frequent the UTC area. I found the truck parked in front of ProFlowers and decided to buy some lunch. After looking at the menu I saw the Buffalo Chicken Melt. I thought this was a pretty funky grilled cheese sandwich so I said what the hell. The sandwich came with a salad (mixed greens) with a lightly dressed vinaigrette. The sandwich to my surprise was on a roll, not a grilled cheese type thing that I was expecting. No problem. This roll was generously loaded with chicken, onions, buffalo sauce. So much so that I was able to pick out some of the insides with a fork before I was able to use my hands and eat it. The chicken was a bit dry and some was pretty burnt but I appreciate the fact they use real chicken not the fake processed chicken strips that some places use. Overall the sandwich really delivered on what I was looking for. While I may not order this particular sandwich again, there is enough here to try Devilicious again. Recommended.

Well it's about time!!! It's a hit and miss when Devilicious is at the Mira Mesa Food Truck event. We opted to try the following: -Butter Poached Lobster Grilled Cheese ($12): Comes with a side of balsamic greens, which were OK. I like the crispness of the bread and the ooey gooey cheese. Unfortunately, there were only 4 pieces of lobster in the sandwich - 2 of which were on my side of the sandwich. -All Crab Cake ($8): Also comes with a side of balsamic greens. Again, liked the crispness of the toasted bread. It was OK. I wanted more since we split it and I felt I didn't have enough to actually taste the crab. -Strawberry Cheesecakewich ($4): Wanted to try something different and different it was! I actually didn't care for it and wished we could have swapped it out for the truffle fries. I left full, but not satisfied. Their standalone, 'Wich Addiction, is soooo much better!!!!!!!

I came here when there were a bunch of food trucks set up a mile from the convention center during Comic Con. I was excited to check out what food trucks San Diego has to offer. I'd have to say that I wasn't all that impressed with this truck. I was disappointed because I heard so much about the butter poached lobster grilled cheese. With the word devil in its name, you would think the food here would be a guilty pleasure or tempting, but all i felt afterwards was guilt for paying this much for such mediocre grilled cheese that I can make at home. Butter Poached Lobster Grilled Cheese - $12 for a grilled cheese sandwich?!?! I understand there are pieces of lobster in there, but there is no way that I'll ever pay for this again. The flavor of the lobster was very bland when I tried to lobster on its own. The cheese was too overpowering to get any taste from anything else. The texture of the lobster felt as if it wasn't fresh. OVERRATED and OVERPRICED. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/lnuQkZ6du_RLEY8zCcXW5Q?select=ZUTgNxEsdlgDkQyl3P3jRw#HreA98zKmj3mnXeJnUYTOQ

Great fresh food, my wife enjoyed her lobster grilled cheese, I had a BBBLT, it was delicious, bacon tasted like bacon and the other ingredients were fresh and tasty. This food truck is a worthy stop.

Just tried the buffalo chicken melt, outside the Hilton, the sauce was good (but hey its buffalo souce!) blue cheese was good...but the actual chicken was dry and there was not much flavor there. I tried the chicken by itself..big mistake! It just tasted weird ..$10 later and I was very hungry so I ate half thank goodness for buffalo sauce. Very disappointed, I had high hopes for it. On the other hand.. lovely cashier she was nice..good service! Food I'll skip on it next time.

Tried Devilicious at the Balboa Park Food Truck Festival. The poached lobster grilled cheese was quite average. Very little not-so-fresh lobster for an ~$10 sandwich. Pretty cool truck though, seems like they've upgraded judging by the previous Yelp photos.

I'd heard so much about Devilicious' Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich, I finally got the opportunity to give it a try. Unfortunately the hype was better than the experience itself and giving three stars is generous for what was offered on food alone. The actual bites of the sandwich that had lobster were to die for however the problem was, as other have claimed, the bites of lobster were limited. It was essentially an overpriced grilled cheese with caramelized onions. Yes, the cheese and caramelized onions are a great combination but not a great $12 combination. The sandwich was served with a small salad lightly topped with balsamic vinegar. Fortunately, there are a few things that are working for Devilicious: 1) notoriety from being on a nationally televised competition, 2) plenty of additional menu items so they do not have to live on the lobster grilled cheese alone and 3) the staff was very friendly and the service was excellent!! I was hoping to be blown away but unfortunately the only thing that blew away was the lobster in my sandwich. Perhaps next time......

Devilicious participated in the Gathering of Food Trucks at Fifty Seven Degrees [http://www.yelp.com/biz/mobile-food-gathering-fifty-seven-degrees-san-diego#hrid:RK8VMNyh1luQbUgaNFC56g, even though the weather wasn't cooperating. They didn't punk out on the event and that's solid on my street cred scorecard. I thought I had arrived early enough this evening to sink my teeth into their Lobster Grilled Cheese, but it was not available. I was so disappointed and apparently not the only one because a couple of other hopefuls jumped out of line when they heard the bad news. Oh well, I'll try another item...or two. Perhaps something deep fried would console my broken heart, or at least warm me up on this cold, rainy night. I went with the $4 Truffle Tots and some ($4 for 3 or $6 for 6) Fried Yumminess. The scratch made Truffle Tots were tasty little tater nuggets. The Yumminess were equally delicious croquettes with asparagus, pancetta, and risotto. This may need clarification, so Message me if an ingredient *edit is needed. I especially enjoyed the crunch from the breading as a contrast to the smooth, creamy fillings. These would be fun to share with friends [http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/N103v2SyEGkq_keIu42xlg?select=uo2dy_U4OyX5T_WXLfqj_w]. I unfortunately got a cold surprise at the uncooked center of one of the Yumminess bites, but the smaller sized tots were all cooked through properly as they were piping hot as we ate them at our table inside the wine bar. Customer service is very friendly and prompt. The truck's menu layout is bright and readable, however, a lot of people (including myself) asked about the Fried Yumminess because it isn't spelled out [http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/N103v2SyEGkq_keIu42xlg?select=-40Wy_7xnbDeQ4-k8hd2AA]. I dig the cute name and maybe the ingredients will rotate, but it's helpful to read about what's what. If Devilicious was parked near my 'hood again, I'd give them another try. I'm still curious about the indulgent lobster sando and other savory sandwiches. I'm also a fan of their baby logo. Deviliciously cute.

    SOFT-SHELLED CRAB CLUB sandwich

caught up with DEVILICIOUS at the FOOD TRUCKS and FUN event at BOOMER's in VISTA. love their logo and paint job -- very clever. ordered the SOFT-SHELLED CRAB CLUB, a combination BLT and GRILLED CHEESE sandwich. took a while to get our food out and i would argue that's much to the credit of KRISTINA REPP and her crew. it's hard not to give in to temptation (especially with a name like DEVILICIOUS) and hurry your food when lots and lots of anxious people are loitering at your doorstep clamoring to be fed. but some things can't be rushed. it takes time and patience (food of love, baby) to perfectly toast a grilled cheese until the outside's toasty, crispy and the inside's melty and mine was done perfectly. on the downside, not sure the SOFT-SHELLED CRAB added much besides a crunchy texture and some upscale gestalt. i'm afraid those bad boys always seem better in theory than they turn out in practice. the spicy house sauce (a sriracha mayo would be my guess) was more sweet than spicy but the BLT and grilled cheese elements of the CLUB sandwich were grubbin' great !!!

Well done Devilicious Food Truck Peeps. You gotta love that name.... I meet up with this food truck at the La Mesa Food Fest Gathering and tried their Pork Belly Melt with grilled Brussels, caramelized red onions, and cheese for $9.00 (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/devilicious-san-diego?select=dpYIjD3jyitLl2QkovY-nQ#uhtTNl39iDJTe2UxX1QEAg). The melt was quite excellent and came a golden crust and with a side lightly dressed salad greens. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/devilicious-san-diego?select=dpYIjD3jyitLl2QkovY-nQ#VY7at-2cLtyqEevYhbdP9g) The pork belly was very well prepared with light crispy exterior and tender center. Between the two, it had great texture. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/devilicious-san-diego?select=dpYIjD3jyitLl2QkovY-nQ#NB1kF-uhKCe4TTqd7JbqFg) Its flavor was quite amazing and had a great grilled taste with hint of smoke. The Gruyere and Mozzarella cheese were well melted and were a great choice for the melt. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/devilicious-san-diego?select=dpYIjD3jyitLl2QkovY-nQ#1j88AbCauyiYPfDNZB7T3w) The Brussels sprouts were very tender and also had developed that great char flavor from the cooking process (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/devilicious-san-diego?select=dpYIjD3jyitLl2QkovY-nQ#3BD6FoYJk7AAqgkqVbNedQ). The onions were sweet and the fig base glaze brought this baby together well. It was a very enjoyable melt... The staff, the gentlemen and young lady who were running the truck were great. They all were in great spirits and had good senses of humor. I am always amazed with the quality of food that comes out of these trucks. How can you fail with a great pork belly melt...

Bacon, jalapeno, and cream cheese burger. Best thing I ever ate!

A great happy hour and the prices were reasonable. The Ambiance was very nice, the room can get full and somewhat loud, but we were always able to hear each other as well as their excellent choices in background music. There's a reason this place has a Michelin star. They've earned it. I absolutely will go back, and I already recommended it to a friend who's heading to the SD area soon. If you don't like their menu, you don't like food.

Service: Our server was friendly and attentive. Food: we ordered the stuffed French toast, baked eggs and simple breakfast. The French toast was not actually stuffed, as I expected, but topped with apples and toppings. It was a think piece of brioche bread and the dish was tasty and not too sweet. I was disappointed in the baked eggs, as I really didn't get much egg out of it. I shared it with my husband and while it did have a lot of flavors, it was overwhelmingly chickpeas and tomato sauce for me. The sourdough bread was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. We ordered the simple breakfast with bacon for our son because they don't have a kids menu and it was perfect for him. I do with we ordered the ultimate sticky bun, which is their speciality, but will have to try that another time. Parking is a real challenge as there is only street parking. There was also a Sunday farmers market going on, which likely contributed.

It was me, my partner, our 2-year-old, and my cousin. At first we were a little confused because we didn't realize the restaurant is basically inside a resort, but once we found it everything was great. We parked in the structure and the restaurant validates parking, which was a huge plus. The resort itself and the outside area were absolutely gorgeous--I'm already thinking about doing a staycation here. We arrived a little early before my cousin, so we walked around and there was so much grassy space for kids to run around and play. My little one loved rolling down the hill and burning off some energy. Once my cousin arrived, we were checked in really quickly. The restaurant itself was also really fun to look around. It had lots of cool decorations and things to see, including signed items and an Anchorman poster, which added a lot of personality to the space. The only small downside was we sat for about 10-15 minutes before anyone came by, but by then we already had our food and drink orders ready. The server did mention the bar was a little backed up, which explained why the drinks took longer and arrived around the same time as the food. The food was AMAZING though. I got the short rib hash and eggs and it was DELICIOUS. My 2-year-old kept asking me for more and more meat . My partner got the chicken and waffles and loved them, and my cousin ordered the Arlo Benedict. We also shared the soufflé pancakes and they were so yummy. The vibe was super fun too. The DJ kept playing old school music and we were all vibing the whole brunch. Between the food, atmosphere, family-friendly outdoor space, and beautiful property, we'll definitely be back!

A few minutes later my friend arrived, went to ask for a table (not mentioning I already checked in) and all of the sudden he can be seated immediately. Unsure why there was a wait when I asked but I was very put off by the treatment from the hostess. For food we tried the short rib hash and eggs and the morning Wagyu burger. The burger was tasty but the short rib hash was kind of bland. Overall, the meal was solid but probably wouldn't return.

Wasn't tooooo much looking forward to it, but it fit all the Birthday Dinner check marks and you can't down talk a place if you haven't been there. First. Listen. Everyone's using open table. But Fort Oak, tell Open Table to chill. I used open table to reserve about 4 days in advance, but still got a TON of emails, and a ton of notifications. Including one that, if I didn't respond to it, would cancel my reservation. Then 3 follow ups asking me to review Fort Oak. Haysuse on a pogo stick, that was almost a detractor from the actual dinner. Is this dinner or a past due bill sent to collection agency? I digress. First, our waiter Johny E, phenomenal. Dude knows wine in ways that are supernatural. Spot on recommendations. Second. Put on your Pulp Fiction "5 dollar shake" face about a 50 dollar pork chop. A FIFTY DOLLAR PORK CHOP. Waiter, who had already proven he know WTF was what, simply said "we're known for it, you will probably enjoy, people rave about it". So, I mean, when in Rome. Johny wasn't lying. It's a pretty @#$#ing good pork chop. Color me amazed. You can be skeptical. You might say I was just trying to justify having spent 50 on a pork chop. Try it. Stunning. I don't know if it's the best I ever had, but I can't remember a better one. Over all, they nail the experience, the food, and wrap it up in a bow. It is always busy, so a reservation is best (I'd call vice using that @#$# open table app, I swear). Shout out about Johny - in fact, ask for him to be your waiter, he a star.

However, we were seated on the outdoor patio which was spacious enough (and dog friendly). The decor was also beautiful! Now for what we ordered: - Ahi Tartare: we weren't planning to get this, but the server recommended. This was fantastic. The crispy shallot added a good amount of crunch, and the brioche it was served with was buttered and toasted to perfection. A standout dish for us - Little Gem Salad: not a must get, but delicious nonetheless. I loved the whipped feta and ranch in this - Goat Milk Cavatelli: soooo good. The sausage in this is really yummy and nicely paired with the charred broccoli. I'd recommend this one - Branzino: delicious. Comes de-boned which is appreciated, and is deliciously flaky. Get this! - NY Strip: ok I know I've said "get this" for basically everything....but seriously get this one. The presentation is beautiful and the squash, bone marrow, and everything else on top were very tasty. This was our favorite dish!

We had a party of 15 and from the planning process to the actual dinner, the restaurant made the entire experience feel special and seamless. Our employees absolutely loved it. The views are honestly second to none. Watching the San Diego skyline and water during dinner created such an incredible atmosphere. The service was outstanding from start to finish and the food completely lived up to the hype. I had the lobster mac and cheese and it was unlike anything I've ever had. Rich, flavorful, and worth every bite. Then dessert happened. Our server insisted I couldn't leave without trying the peanut butter brownie ice cream dessert and now I fully understand why. Unreal. I think I need about seven more of them immediately. Highly recommend for celebrations, group dinners, date nights, or anytime you really want to impress people.
