I immediately understood why so many people rave about this truck. The fish was perfectly fried, the toppings were fresh, and everything came together beautifully. Unfortunately, my second visit was the complete opposite experience. The fish was soft, stale-tasting, and lacked the crispy texture that made the tacos so memorable the first time. If someone had told me the tacos came from a different shop, I would have believed them. It felt like two completely different cooks were working the truck. My Spanish is mas o menos at best, so it can be a little intimidating placing an order. She was patient with me and let me practice my español and even complemented my efforts. Fries were solid and well seasoned but I like mine to be crispier. Not dockin' points off that cause everybody has their taste for fries. Ambiance-wise: the truck, the menus, names of each of the items, and staff had a cool vibe and theme going on which I think is essential for food trucks as you'd want a vibe that catches the eye and gets people curious about what you're marketing. In summary, for a spontaneous decision to try a random food truck at a random spot at the end of town, Baby's Burgers absolutely hit the spot and surprisingly exceeded expectations. I'm not normally one to spend more than 10 bucks on a burger, but Baby's was worth the money. And especially when you consider that most food trucks will upsell their item, the items here were at a great price. The location's decor is simple, effective, and sells the aesthetic of the restaurant perfectly. The food is delicious (I had the Madagascar, which is a grilled cheese with pesto and balsamic vinaigrette, and a side of fries) and they have options for vegetarian and vegan diets as well. It also happens to be very well priced, with all dishes being around 11 dollars, and the most expensive being around 20. Overall, would highly recommend if you happen to be nearby. read more

Devilicious is a San Diego-based food truck and a long-time participant in the twice-yearly Great American Foodie Fest in Las Vegas. I must've tried them last time because I found a picture of the duck confit grilled cheese. Whether I was slacking on reviews/photo uploads that weekend or I intentionally avoided doing the review, that sandwich clearly wasn't memorable. But I tried them again because of the relative lack of out-of-town newcomers, and I wasn't disappointed this time. My choice was the Cali Pork Belly Burrito ($11, at least for this event), their version of the San Diego local favorite California burrito. It's a burrito with french fries inside, and the first one I ever tried was fantastic. This rendition is an even larger departure from its Mexican inspirations, with the salsa verde and perhaps the crema being the only Mexican flavors discernible. However, it was still a filling treat because of the delicious, not-too-chewy pork belly that's cut into large chunks. The potato were pretty good too. My only issue was that one half of my burrito had zero meat when I got to the bottom; fortunately, I still had the other half still to eat. The Cali burrito seems to be a newer menu item, and I hope it stays on. And I hope that Devilicious keeps coming back so that I can work my way through the rest of their menu, including their popular lobster grilled cheese.

But to be honest, its probably enough of food for a sorority girl, a child, or a midget, but not for a grown 6ft-2inch 190lb male. As with all food trucks: No free water, no place to sit, no bathroom, nowhere to wash your hands, etc...it also doesn't help that I know of a little place in Clairemont that serves a bigger Cubano sandwich and with fries or a salad for only $5.95.
