I stood at the window and no one was there but a guy inside who decided to do prep work for about 10 minutes until he came over to help me. I was getting a lot of text so I was busy and normally would have walked away with that type of behavior. When he finally came over I asked him if he was open or what and he said 'yeah' and I said "well I've been standing here a while so I wasn't sure." he had no comment like oh sorry I didn't see you there or anything I know he saw me there he just ignored me. I'm pretty sure I was the first customer and I ordered the falafel which they were out of. wow. So I settled on the chicken kabob which was supposed to be a plate and it looked more like a side salad for $12. There was nothing special about this kabob and they were telling me it was some sort of authentic recipe authentic or not it was unmemorable. I ran into this Kebabery at the Helix Brewery and ordered a lamb and beef Döner kebab with a terrific blend of authentic Turkish spices. I say authentic because the spice mix actually comes all the way from Turkey. The Döner kebab was all about those Turkish flavors. They aggressive in a very good way and packed a touch of heat as well. The heat was subtle but definitely was felt on the palate. As a result, the lamb and beef were very flavorful. The Döner kebab also came with a familiar yogurt sauce or a Tzatziki which not only tasted great but also complimented the Turkish spices and added as a gentle cooling affect. Although the beef and lamb tasted good, I did feel they both could of been a little more tender. The Döner kebab also came with fresh lettuce and red onions. They served it on a toasted flat bread that had great flavor and texture. The gent who runs the Local Kebab is very friendly and passionate about his trade and for good reason too. Only giving this place a one star instead of none because 1) I cant give 0 stars lol and 2) at least the owner was a nice person. I came here for maker's arcade and saw the food looked really good, however what you see was not what you got. I have several complaints 1) The rice/salad plates were as big as side dishes for $12.50??? And it came with half the meat chipotle gives you and enough rice for 4 bites... I'm a small girl who doesn't eat much and this did not fill me up one bit. 2) The food came out very slow..took almost half an hour and only 2 people were in front of me when I ordered. It was probably because only one person was preparing it and he was unbelievably slow and taking his nice time. 3) I ordered my plates without hot pepper flakes because my sister can NOT eat spicy food. That same person preparing our food accidentally put hot peppers on her plate and tried to cover it up by adding more hummus and tzatziki sauce. Good thing I was watching him prepare it so I called him out on it saying there's peppers and he said no there isn't - denied it. So I looked at the owner and said what had happened and it's so obvious there are pepper flakes in there...do you think I'm stupid??? Anyway, the owner had no choice as they were obviously in the wrong and made me another one without pepper flakes. 4) For $13 a plate (w tax), I expected more than a 8inch diameter plate of food with 1/4 cup of rice... and the meat was also very dry especially the beef and lamb. 5) Not a complaint but advice - do not come here if there is a young man who has no expression on his face whatsoever is making the food for you. And also watch what they're doing and what they're putting on your plate. Highly disappointed in this place even though the owner seemed like a decent person. read more

I found this business posted up at Ale Smith and when having some beers this really hit the spot. Just while ordering in front you immediately smell the flavors and aromas from everything that he is cooking. I tried the Lamb and Beef Doner Kabob which was fresh and tasty! Their ingredients are super fresh from their crispy lettuce to their perfectly grilled chicken and lamb/beef kebabs! They top their plates & sandwiches with some red spice that is absolutely delicious! I'm a wimp so I ask for mild! They also have these delicious lentil rolls that were a very new experience for my tastebuds! Vegan friendly and meat eater friendly. Their portions are pretty big. Yummmmmmmm!!!! After my recent trip to Istanbul where I fell in love with everything Turkish, I had to hunt this food truck down as soon as I heard about it! On a Monday night, I found Çenk (the owner) cooking up doner kebap out front of Fall Brewing Company. Hooray! I enjoyed practicing my Turkish with him, he enjoyed making fun of my terrible Turkish, and my girlfriend and I ordered one of everything on the menu. (It's not really a big menu.) The Doner Kebap wrap/sandwich was fantastic. I enjoyed every bite of the flavorful meat served up on some warm flat bread with fresh vegetables.... everything was spiced to perfection. My girlfriend enjoyed her falafal wrap (which I actually didn't try, so we'll have to take her word for it), and we both enjoyed the order of lentil rolls (his grandmother's recipe) that we ordered to share. The lentils themselves were soft (not fried) and just spiced incredibly... it's one of those 'how can something so simple be soooo delicious?' moments. They were served on top of lettuce which we used as wraps. I definitely recommend getting these as an appetizer to share - it's a one of a kind experience you'll only get here. Since it was slow, Çenk visited our table frequently to chat us up... he shared stories of Turkey and how he moved his young family from Turkey to San Diego only a few years ago, and his experience here running a popup restaurant. He even brought us out a piece of pumpkin dessert before we left as a thank you for our conversation and support. I thoroughly enjoyed this as well - it was only mildly sweet and more of a savory/herbal flavor - very unique and tasty. All of the food we ate was fantastic - my *only* desire is for more variation in the menu (Adana Kebap! heeehee), but i know that's not easy for pop-ups to accomplish. Not impressed at all. Food trucks pull up to work daily, and this is def not on the top of the list. $13.50 for a small ass chicken kebab. Chicken was seasoned but dry, mostly cabbage, and pita crumbled right away. Waited about 15 minutes for 2 orders in front of mine and they had the same thing. Also, there is no beef or lamb kebabs. Sadly visited Alesmith Brewery hoping to have a satisfying meal with the wonderful beer. Got my hopes dashed by only "chicken" kebab in a pita bread. We hoped to maximize our meal with a "plate". But the server recommended "pita bread" suggesting it's more difficult for him to serve 6 plates of "chicken kebab" versus serving 6 pita breads. Don't understand the reason but maybe it was cost related. Secondly, kebabs should also have "lamb" has mandatory and not an option. "chicken" kebab ... really ? Thirdly, the "chicken" kebab was mildly warm and not hot. Who wants to eat cold meat on a cold day. Fourthly, the cost was exorbitant : $16 for a "chicken kebab" when I could have bought a wonderful carne asada burrito for $8 from Soto's and be totally full for lunch and dinner. Stay away from "local kebab" until they really become a specialty food truck with delicious hot kebabs with lamb meat. read more

What a great find! I'm usually hesitant to go to Mediterranean places because they often only have falafel for the veggie centric folks. I find that boring. But here they have a really flavorful lentil and bulgur roll! I'm very very impressed. It's not fried and its seasoned very well. I got mine in a warm pita and it was perfect for a rainy day. "OMG Delicious". Amazing customer service and delicious food. This guy has an amazing back story coming straight from Turkey with a whole bag full of spices and now can make everything from local San Diego farms. I love how he is all smiles and really enjoys making the food from marinating for 18 hours to cooking it right on the spot. The lamb and beef doner kebab on pita: Delicious and most be eaten on the spot! The lamb/beef has a nice char and is juicy and tender. The fresh sliced onion, lettuce, and tomato are a nice touch. The crumbled feta is tasty as well. The sauces are fresh and not watery like the other reviews. What is even more amazing, is if you like a little heat, he has this special spice that has a great flavor and slight heat to it. The warm pita bread (though from a store) is a nice fluffy vessel for all of tasty ingredients. Pumpkin dessert with tahini: Reminds me of a pumpkin pie but with more pumpkin. The tahini adds an interesting creamy bitterness to it. I like the contrast but I'll eat the whole thing as is because it's not too sweet but very flavorful. Overall, I will be back. He probably could manage to not rush too much and cook his meat a little slower and the cooking will compliment the meat a bit more but honestly, it's great enough as is to be back for more. I give the Local Kebab a 3 because the food options were super limited. I was craving falafel and they had run out, which is essentially half their menu. We then ordered the chicken kebab pita and no where does it say this was spicy. I unfortunately have an extra sensitivity to spice, and it was too overwhelming. There should be a warning, either written on the menu or verbal, that this is a spicy option because some people can't hang. The chicken seemed to be good quality though, so hence the 3 stars. Really bad look for a company based on service. Foodwise: they were out of several menu items. Long wait and portions are not proportionate to what the plates cost. I stopped by Societe to enjoy a beer now that they're open. You have to order food with your beer right now and the food truck that was there was Local Kebab. I ordered a falafel wrap, and OH MY GOD was it delicious! The falafel itself was cut into thin pieces and pan fried making it easier to eat, and it was SO flavorful. The vegetables inside the wrap were thinly cut, which I loved. I personally enjoy my falafel with extra tzaziki sauce, and the gentleman working the truck poured me extra, no problem. He even gave us a small portion of a new dish he is adding to his menu, not sure of the name but it was spicy and delicious. I will most definitely be having this falafel wrap agin! read more

But the real deal was the Turkish food in Germany. Cenk serves the food up German-Turkish style. Its like a little taste of Munich right here in San Diego. I know it seems weird. Meat marinated for hours, flat bread heated just right, and fresh vegetables.
