Great hot dog joint to come to if you're starving or want a late-night snack. They got the classic chicago dogs and also very creative and regional hot dogs from other parts of the country. I just got a simple Chicago dog and some cheese fries; wanted to be in and out and wanted to stick with the classic. They do use a different type of hot dog than the Vienna Beef that's seen at most hot dog stands. The hot dog that is sold here I thought was delicious and had great snap and robust flavor. The fries were delicious, hot, crispy, and fresh, and the cheese sauce was nice and smooth and satisfying. Happened to be down the street when the hunger pangs found me. Nothing like a good Chicago hot dog shack. The dog here was good. Would have preferred a poppy seed bun, but other than that minor variation, it was your standard fare. The staff was nice, the place had a vibe, and it was clean. So much hype around the burgers everywhere, I was wishing I had ordered that while waiting for my dog. Maybe next time. It's not a destination place, but if you are in the area like I was and craving a Chicago staple, this beats all the chain restaurants around. read more

Not sure why this place has only 4 stars because it was amazing. We almost didn't come but I'm so glad we took the chance, it was so worth it. Fantastic French fries! They might just be my favorite. However, the hot dogs here are just okay and the sliders (while delicious!) are pricey for the portion size. I prefer the location on south State Street because the service is quicker and friendlier. read more

Don't trust the menu board. This place is located right near the Red line L stop on Belmont. It's a pretty good hot dog / hamburger / chicken sandwich place. The dogs are above & beyond your normal Vienna Beef Chicago style dog, to the continuing credit of Hot Doug. There is decent seating, & the place is up to date & clean. So why only 3 stars? Yesterday, I bought a Wicker Dawg, which I've had before. Per the menu board, it involves a large sausage with giardiniera, onions, tomatoes, brown mustard, Merkt's cheese on a lobster roll. The roll is grilled, which is really essential. This is a very tasty dog. But the dog came on a fairly normal hot dog bun, ungrilled. No lobster roll. No warning that there wasn't going to be one. Same price, though. I talked to the counterman, who said that the owner had decided to eliminate lobster rolls from all the dogs previously using them. Evidently they are trying out some other kind of roll. Well, maybe... In the meantime, though, minus one star for downgrading a really good dog to an okay dog I won't order again by eliminating the grilled lobster roll, and minus one star for not correcting the menu board or warning the customer of the change. read more

Best milkshakes in town...without a doubt. The variety of choice borders on overwhelming but it is still very appreciated. I went with a safe choice for my first time and got the dark chocolate milkshake. I was more than happy with my decision. The milkshakes are one size only, 24 ounces, and can easily be an entire meal. I had one around lunchtime and was happy and full until about 8:00 pm. Now that I've gone off about the milkshakes, I will admit - I have no experience with any of the other menu items but I plan to change that as soon as possible. read more

I loved my dog-- I got a chili cheese dog loaded up. But I really was disappointed by the onion rings. I would definitely recommend staying away from them. Basically grilled onions with soggy breading that fell off the ring. They need to go back to the drawing board on those rings. read more

Now that they have been open for some time I feel it's time to re-review Devil Dawgz. The hot dogs and brats and polish sausage are really good but the sliders are where it's at! Went here on a recommendation from a friend. Saturday night 7:00 pm and not busy at all. Wait staff seemed irritated that they had to wait on me and were unfriendly. Kept the order simple,2 Chicago dogs a small fry and small rings. Dogs were OK but falling apart. Rings were unrecognizable masses of deep fried batter and onions that didn't stick together. Fries had the consistency of warm pasta. Management needs to explain to the staff that they need to be a little more interested in the customer. I don't want to be buddies but a little "Hi or Thanks" would be nice. read more

My last review for this place a month ago was a 4. The food is really good. There aren't a lot of places near me that I can get a pretty good veggie dog. I also love the onion rings (you have to eat them immediately or the breading all flakes off). I had to take a star off, because they are SO SLOW! A woman literally yelled it out today, as we waited...for hot dogs. If you have time constraints, order for pick up. "Very messed up delivery order - Lakeview/Belmont Ave location" At 11:11 AM today, our office ordered online directly to the restaurant via ChowNow, requesting delivery for 12:30 PM. We ordered a variety of hot dogs, sides, cans of pop (AKA "soda" for non-Chicagoans), an iced tea, and a peanut butter-banaa milkshake. At 11:45 our food was delivered (45 minute too early) and ONLY the FOOD was delivered. No pop, no tea, no shake. We called and were told that they would deliver the beverages in 10 minutes. Well, 10 minutes came and went. An hour went by... and still nothing. We called twice and got only voicemail. At 12:55 PM we received a nice email from Dena apologizing and offering free shakes. Then we got a call from Sergio from the restaurant, apologizing profusely and saying he had a lot of new people on staff. We know that mistakes happen. We appreciate the apologies, but this error was completely befuddling. How do you miss 4 cans of pop, and iced tea, and a milkshake? And the real problem that prompted this review is this: How do you not quickly make good on those missing items? Our office is less than a mile from the restaurant. Food is good but do not expect to have your food within 10 mins or less. Came because it was cold and didn't want to wait 20 mins for the bus in the cold, so why not grab something to eat to kill time. I ordered 1 hot dog and a shake. It took about 15 mins to get my food and another 10 extra minutes to get my shake because the cashier was the one making the shakes as well as taking orders. However, there was two people preparing and packaging the food. I completely understand there was a lot of food orders, however there is now a long list of shakes piling up as well. Time management is definitely something that needs to be worked on at this location. Also, it seemed like they were ignoring me when I was trying to get their attention about my shake. read more
