So, I had a couple of dollars and my crib would get hot and cold and I never used the attic but I know nothing changed in it since the sixties. Of course I'm not the first owner but back then they didn't do any of the stuff they do now. I called Devere. Once the estimator gave me the price, I was like, "Ok. I'm ready to pay" They then scheduled me three days later. I had the little vents put at the soffits, the exhaust fan tubing replaced with and insulated vent tube or hose, the plywood floor and debris removed, insulation added, gaps sealed, and that slick zippered cover over the attic steps. Let me tell you, there is a huge difference in the amount of Insulation that was in my attic. They took it from about four inches to about 18. The guys they sent were awesome and putting down drop cloths and protection and even wore the boot covers. I'm really, really happy. Huge improvement. And it is one of the least expensive investments you can make. read more

We had them come to do insulation work in our home and the estimate was reasonable. I have to say they were very professional and took care while working in all areas of our home. They took care of our personal belongings, put down drop cloths to protect carpet and flooring. Do not use these people. I spent over $1,300 to soundproof my attic and it made no difference in reducing the noise level. Subsequent contractors told me the job was poorly done. The salesperson I dealt with was highly unprofessional. Promised me he would connect me with an acoustic tile contractor to help with the problem in case their efforts did not work. Kept promising me and promising me he would give me a contact but was just jerking me around. read more

We had DeVere do the insulation in our attic. Then we had a problem and had Greg come out to discuss the matter with my husband. He said he would contact us after Thanksgiving and has never called us back. My husband called his cell twice and then called the main phone number. The lady said she would call us back that afternoon. Well that that never happened. I understand people may be sick with the virus or short staff. Have the courtesy to call back. read more

Very reliable insulation company. I had all four floors of my exterior walls insulated, including closed cell spray foam in the basement. I had my ceiling insulated in each unit and the roof with R38 and R-49, respectfully, and the total cost was $5,600. Great deal. They were professional and in/out in a few hours. We had Devere spray foam our unfinished basement walls and floor joists. The price was very good and they were easy to work with. Unfortunately, other than small print in the contract, I wasn't notified that we shouldn't have been in our home during the spray foam installation or for 24 hours afterwards. Nor did they have us do other things like open windows, block vents, or shut the furnace off during the installation. We had a newborn (who hasn't been breathing well since) and 2 other small children in the home breathing in the fumes, and my wife felt sick. I hope that none of them are affected long term. I could have done more research on the risks, but I feel like we should have been notified beforehand so we could have chosen a different type of insulation. read more

The problems I faced included (1) a temperature difference between the first and second floors of 4 degrees - doesn't sound like much but, believe me, that is significant enough so if you were comfortable on one level of the house you were either too hot or cold on the other level; (2) air leakage that caused noticeable drafts in the basement and laundry room; (3) a guest bedroom that was always cold in the winter; and (4) monthly letters from Pepco telling me that compared to my neighbors in comparable homes my energy consumption was much, much higher. In terms of monthly bills, I was definitely one of Pepco's residential gold star customers. I contacted three different insulation companies. Two of them sent estimators whose evaluations, even to my totally untrained eyes, were cursory. They recommended blowing additional insulation into my attic. The estimators produced contracts that were ready to be signed. I did not like what I perceived as high-pressure sales tactics based on a superficial analysis of my energy problems. Then I contacted Devere. They had great ratings on Washington Checkbook but so did the other two insulation companies. From the first phone call with DeVere, I sensed this would be a different experience. The receptionist was well-informed, asked perceptive questions, took plenty of time to answer my questions and never made me feel that I was taking up too much of her time. When the estimator came,he spent over an hour and a half carefully going through my house explaining all sorts of things that the other two estimators never addressed. For example, he explained that the location of cobwebs in my basement showed where there was air leakage. He explained how the recessed lights that had been installed in the ceilings of our second floor had not been properly fitted with insulating covers. etc. etc. His visit was quite an education. He then explained the various remedies that were possible telling me the cost-effectiveness of each remedy. He said he would prepare a contract that would separately list each proposed remedy with its price. I could then choose which ones to opt for. He also explained Pepco's energy rebate program which neither of the other estimators had mentioned. He said that if they could achieve a 20% reduction in air leakage in my house, I could get a $2,000 rebate from Pepco. He indicated which remedies would result in the 20% or more reduction. The whole process was professional, informative, no sales pressure and not at all rushed. When the crew came to do the work, they put on little booties over their shoes so as not to track dirt into our house. My wife really liked that. To my untrained eye, they seemed to work quickly and efficiently. It seemed to me they knew what they were doing and, more importantly, they seemed to CARE about doing a really good job. They were very polite and professional. They spent all day on the job and around 4:00 PM told me they had called for additional help because they would not be able to finish on their own that day. Around 4:30 another Devere truck pulled up with two more workers and a supervisor. The supervisor checked the work and guided the completion of the job. I asked the men if they could also insulate the area around our electric panel. That was not in the contract. They said sure and did the work with no extra charge. While working around the electric panel they found a couple of other spaces in the cabinetry that they insulated. Again, no extra charge. When they finished a few hours later, the supervisor took me around the house showing me what they had done. When Devere finished, I had Energy Efficiency Experts check the job. They had to do this to certify the 20% reduction in CFMs - cubic feet per minute. In checking the job, they found a couple of places that Devere has missed. When I called Devere and told them, they were so polite and concerned. They scheduled a follow-up service call, came promptly and did the work. I received no bill from Devere until after the followup work had been completed and EEE had checked the job once more. My whole experience with Devere has spoiled me in terms of my expectations from other service providers. I just got my $2,000 rebate check from Pepco. The monthly letters from Pepco showing my energy consumption compared to my neighbors shows me with a MAJOR improvement. The 4 degree temperature difference between first and second floors has disappeared. The guest bedroom is no longer colder than the other bedrooms. I am one happy camper. read more

I had my energy audit done and needed several issues addressed regarding insulation, air leakage, fan vents, and so on. This crew deserves kudos for working tirelessly on by far the coldest day of winter. They were unfazed by the weather as they complete some of the work outside. They were also respectful of the space, protecting it with drop cloths. I've worked with them through Edge energy, and I would happily work with this team in the future. read more

I wish I could give no stars. We are very disappointed with DeVere. We got estimates from a number of insulation companies and, ultimately, decided to go with DeVere because they were the only one that promised to get the job done before our Christmas guests arrived. Unfortunately, they showed up today and did not complete the work as promised. The workers were either overbooked or didn't want to work today, because from the moment they arrived, Luis and Oscar, set about looking for bogus reasons not to do the work. The found some excuse not to insulate our garage, but then decided to leave without even sealing our leaky rim joists in basement (they didn't even give us an excuse for that one). In the end, we are going to go with another company. Even one that charges twice as much is worth it if there is greater integrity and they deliver as promised. I'm just sorry we wasted our time dealing with DeVere. read more

Devere came and insulated my house on a rainy cold day. They did a great job on the insulation projects and left no trace that they had been there despite the weather. They even reduced the price a little when they realized that they did not have to do the same amount of work as had been bid. All in all a very good experience. Fiur stars instead fice only becasue of the tardiness in arriving in the morning and the confusion over a part of the job. Great people. read more

Had a terrible experience with Devere's insulation installers. They sent two crews, the first did air sealing while the second blew in the insulation. The first crew was courteous and clean (they put down plastic and drop clothes as they walked into the house); they did a nice job; and they vacuumed afterward. The second crew was 3 hours late, never bothered with drop cloths, completed half the job, left dirty hand prints on our walls, did a terrible job (quality), and broke a large tree limb. I'd suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Devere installed some cellulose insulation in my attic after mold remediation. Being really sensitive to chemicals, I immediately began to have a sore throat and headache. I was very concerned about my young child, who has a history of breathing/coughing issues, breathing in the air from the insulation. I also noticed that b/c of the work they did around the door opening area, the attic door was not closing all way properly so fumes/particles from the attic were leaking down into the house. I called them that same night, thinking that I would get a voicemail service. Instead, a live person answered the phone. He was a night-service attendant and couldn't help me but he said if it was an emergency, he would have the person on-call get it touch with me. I opted for that. I got a call back within an hour and the Devere consultant said he'd show up at 8am to help resolve. He did as promised, showed up with his crew, and they spent 4+ hours removing all the insulation and fixing the door. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Further, he came back the next day to replace the pull-string for the attic door, which they had inadvertently damaged. I went into this expecting to have to pay for the insulation and pay for the removal; they not only showed up within 12 hours of me calling to remove the insulation but I just got an email notification that I got a full refund for the installation. These guys understand what makes EXCELLENT SERVICE. Although I think I need to go another route (wool insulation - no fumes, no chemicals) due to my family's sensitivities to chemicals - I would recommend anyone to Devere in a heartbeat. read more

My husband read great reviews about this company, and so had a representative come out. Ashley Bowers. Initially my husband was solely involved and Ashley seemed very pleasant on our brief meeting. However, I had questions when my husband asked me to review the estimate, which was sorely lacking in explanation for why it cost over 5300 dollars to insulate and put vapor barrier in a 678 sq ft crawl space! While there were separate items listed for our job- there was no explanation or definition of any item such as "thermal spray" and no separate pricing for each item ( itemization) - just the one lumped together price. When I attempted to talk with Ashley about the items and pricing- she was very snide to me as though I could not select the items separately- including removing the rest of the previous insulation myself - and no way to decrease the price. I attempted 4 separate times to reach a supervisor to get answers- to no avail. Later I learned that the "thermal spray" is a VERY EXPENSIVE item and only suggested in very specific circumstances which was not explained to us by Ashley- who apparently wanted to stuff our estimate for our very small duplex for commission purposes. Naturally we went elsewhere, received much better information and for a much more reasonable price. This company NOTICED our flood vents and pointed out they certainly needed to think about how to make sure they were not sealed off by insulation and yet needed to do something to block the cold air from coming in.( Needless to say the Devere rep never noticed that.) I had this company come out earlier this year to install insulation in my attic. I thought they would try to sell me the most expensive thing in the pamphlet as most companies do, but they didn't. They informed me of what I currently had and advised that it would be much easier to just add onto it. There were a few other things brought to my attention that I needed done and they were shown to me in pictures taken by the person doing the quote which I thought would be extremely expensive. She explained to me why I needed these things done and said she would send me a quote. When I received the quote, I was shocked. I thought they missed something. I called to ensure everything she said was included in the quote and it was! When the guys came out to install everything they were professional and very polite. Since getting the insulation installed and other work done, I have saved what I spent in BGE bills already and we aren't even through the summer yet!
