It was a wonderful place for our community to come together, be out of the city, and relax! Mary Helan was SOO very very helpful in for months in advance of the retreat, during the retreat and post retreat. She was wonderful to work with and extremely patient. As others mentioned there were no other options close by in the Harvard area to stay, so we decided to stay on site (even though I tried to find alternative arrangements). We arrived on Friday and found our room, which had only twin beds (the same for almost all rooms) but were yet to receive our linens (sheets/towels/pillow cases). We did get those later and as another reviewer mentioned they were very worn. You could also not bring in your own pillows or linens (as I had brought) and the party would be fined if they saw you doing so. The bathroom/showers which I saw were pretty outdated and dingy (except the ones near the front door which appear to be newer). They weren't unclean, but were just in desperate need of some TLC. We were also informed of a strict 5 minute shower policy which there are signs posted for in the bathroom. As most have said, it is very much a DIY venue, even so far as to washing your own dishes throughout the weekend. We did help out with a lot throughout the weekend which was fun helping our friends set up their wedding and be a part of it, but many times we would need to ask Mary or Keith (the owners of the property) for assistance or direction with a given task. Most of the time they were very friendly and helpful, but not all the time. I certainly understand they have a job to do, and tasks the Bride/Groom set up for them, and that helping me wasn't on their priority list, but at least be a little bit pleasant because we are paying you to be there. I would have to agree that the food they provided was excellent, and they were able to meet the needs of many dietary issues in our group. If I was reviewing only their food it would be 5 stars, no question. They used fresh ingredients and were very passionate about what came out of the kitchen. The other issue was the firewood. We were lectured that it was to be a "camp fire" and not a "bonfire". We were only provided with about 6 tiny pieces of wood to keep the fire going for our allotted 2 hours...and NO wood was to be put on after 11pm as the fire had to be completely out by midnight... It was nice to be able to just walk back to my room after the wedding/reception. The ceremony was beautiful set back under the trees on the lawn. If you are looking for a DIY wedding where you have to do just about everything for set up and break down then this is probably your place.

We have nothing but kind words for the folks running the Groton Inn. The Thursday night before, we had an amazing rehearsal dinner in the Keep's Conservatory - a perfectly elegant space that was perfectly sized for our wedding party and families to socialize and celebrate. My wife used their Fuller Lounge to get make up and hair done for her 9(!) bridesmaids and 3 mothers, and there was still plenty of space to relax for those waiting. The day after the ceremony and reception, we hosted our guests in the Prescott Room for a smaller brunch so people could see us one more time before traveling home or to other corners of New England for other adventures. All three spaces were beautiful, well-kept, and just right for the occasion. Stay the fuck away…read more I booked (and paid for) a three-night stay and ended up checking out a day early. Throughout my stay, there were multiple bugs in the room, including insects crawling on the walls and small flying bugs (gnats? I'm not sure). The overall condition of the room made it difficult to relax or sleep comfortably. There was even a bug crawling above my bed at one point. The hotel itself is VERY dated and in need of maintenance. The air conditioner was very loud and struggled to keep the room cool. They also don't do daily housekeeping, which isn't a MAJOR thing but when your hotel looks like it came out of a scary movie -- it might be helpful. Did not get much sleep during my stay. Most disappointing was the response from the front desk when I checked out early. I explained that I was leaving because of the bug issues and asked whether a refund for the unused final night would be possible. I knew this was a long shot, but was at least expecting a friendly interaction. I was told that I should have reported the issue earlier so they could have moved me to another room (which objectively is very fair). I was then handed a manager's business card (also very fair) but then dismissed. Tone of the interaction was not friendly at all. There was little empathy and no apparent interest in understanding my concerns. I felt like a commoner being dismissed by a noble or something. Once again, did not expect to be fully or even partially refunded for my room, but also did not expect this dismissiveness and frankly defensiveness. I understand that problems can happen at any hotel, BUT matters is how those problems are handled. Between the room condition, the bugs, the poor sleep, and the unfriendly response when I raised my concerns, I cannot recommend this property. Stay away!!

From check-in to maid service and breakfast, what a nice, friendly helpful group of people. Even during construction( which I never heard), they were lovely. Even lent me an umbrella when it was pouring! I did have one of the newer rooms and they are lovely. Beds are comfy, and suite is well laid out. If there was one improvement needed, the hot water takes forever to get hot. That's it. I look forward to returning soon. Thank you again for making a difficult trip easier.
