Claire and I got married in Groton at the Barn at Gibbet Hill on Sep 18th, 2026. We stayed at the Groton Inn, which is just down the road downhill from that venue. We have nothing but kind words for the folks running the Groton Inn. The Thursday night before, we had an amazing rehearsal dinner in the Keep's Conservatory - a perfectly elegant space that was perfectly sized for our wedding party and families to socialize and celebrate. My wife used their Fuller Lounge to get make up and hair done for her 9(!) bridesmaids and 3 mothers, and there was still plenty of space to relax for those waiting. The day after the ceremony and reception, we hosted our guests in the Prescott Room for a smaller brunch so people could see us one more time before traveling home or to other corners of New England for other adventures. All three spaces were beautiful, well-kept, and just right for the occasion. Special thanks to the Groton Inn for accommodating us with a wedding block of rooms, for being flexible with special requests (like keeping guest gift bags at the front desk), and for the beautiful rooms of course. read more

Mediocre at best, complete disappointment Price jumped from $260 to $430 one night "based on occupancy" without any visible signs of increased guests. Shameless gouge money grab. Service was deplorable. No coffee/tea maker, tv remote was useless and staff said we should write down channel numbers or memorize them. No housekeeping at all! We stayed three nights and had to request new towels and trash removal. Were told making up bed was NOT a service they provided! Continental breakfast was underwhelming- skimpy and cheap. Will never return. Save your money, go to Motel 6 and get better quality and service! read more

Stayed two nights for a wedding so I didn't pick this Inn myself. Regardless, came with an open mind. From the start of the check-in found the desk staff very unaccommodating. I don't want to say rude but just not friendly. Mostly, what I found disappointing though, was the service I received from a supposed 4/5 star accommodation. Rooms, I was told, are only cleaned every 3 days, but we were welcome to ask for more towels. Well, we had multiple functions to dress for over the course of the weekend so I spent the weekend, with my roommate, in a room littered with dirty towels from showering, and an unmade bed. Never did see the bed made, and even with the discount we were paying over 300 a night. Breakfast was nice, but the only place to eat was the patio. Had to struggle to raise my own umbrella and then had to carry my own trash back into the building as there were no trash cans outside. Ended up dropping my leftovers and plate trying to get back in the building to dispose of my and my roommate's table trash. Overall just not a 4/5 star experience. read more

We had a great stay at the Groton Inn . The location is extremely scenic - as is the hotel itself . It is warm and decorated nicely , our room was clean and comfortable . The shower was very nice - as was the decor and the general ambiance. There is a nice little seating area with a fireplace in the lobby, and nice country rocking chairs on the porch out front ; where you are welcome to purchase and enjoy beer and wine . It was a beautiful few days so we did sit outside and enjoy. The staff that we dealt with were very friendly and pleasant . Particularly Diane - who works in the breakfast hall - she was so sweet and we enjoyed chatting with her both days we were there ! Beautiful views out back - and located closely to many things in town . There's a charming little antique/ knick knack store across the street . We can't wait to come back ! read more

This is a comment about my brunch experience - comparing June 2018 to June 2019: Last June, right after they opened, I went with some friends on the last day of school for bloody Mary's and a light brunch. We wanted to sit outside. Unfortunately, they weren't serving food outside, but accommodated us and tossed some pastries from the breakfast buffet (inside) onto a plate for us. The pastries were fair - about what you'd expect from a continental breakfast at any mid range hotel - overly sweet and ever so slightly stale. They also charged us through the nose - but it was our last morning of kid-free time, who cares, right? As we were there to mourn the loss of our free time with the kids getting out of school for summer, Bloody Mary's were the key element of the plan. They were very good! Spicy, but not overpowering. A nice balanced texture with horseradish bits mixed in. Garnished with lemon, celery, olives, and a spicy pickled pepper. Perfect for a sunny morning on the back patio. Fast forward to June 2019. We head over to get something to eat and grab a Bloody Mary again. Recalling the pastry predicament of '18, we opted to try the breakfast. It was pricey. I had the prepared breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs with sausage and cheese on a croissant) which was fair. The side potatoes were good but a bit salty for my palate. They were out of yogurt by 9 am, which was a disappointment. The fruit options were honeydew, cantaloupe, and pineapple. My friend tried the custom egg bar - although she ordered scrambled eggs and received an omelet, she said it was quite good (for an omelet) as was the sausage. Overall, the food was good, but nothing special for $18 a head. But now comes the tragic part. The Bloody Mary. I was so looking forward to the last day of school perfection from last year - imagine my surprise when we received drinks that were HALF THE SIZE of last year. And there was no garnish - what is a Bloody Mary without at least celery? That's right: peppery V8 and vodka. The drink was overly spicy (and this is coming from someone who LOVES spicy food!), watery, and bitter. When we asked about the change, we were told by the cook/bartender(?) that this is they way they make Bloody Mary's (including for their Bloody Mary bar!). I objected to being charged $9 for a sub par drink - especially when she told us that they were "out" of usual accoutrement; fortunately, she did (begrudgingly) comp one drink. This is the only game in Groton if you are looking for a Bloody Mary or brunch on a Wednesday morning. Based on the difference between these two experiences, I will be casting a wider net for 2020's last day of school drink with friends. I do want to note that our server was a lovely woman who was incredibly friendly and helpful! The dining area is comfortable and pleasantly decorated - as are the grounds and lobby of the Inn itself. I am just terribly disappointed by the difference a year made in the quality of something as simple as a basic cocktail. I wish Gibbet, Forge & Vine, The Station House, or the Publik House served brunch - or even hosted a last day (and first day!) of school special "Boo-Hoo Yahoo" brunch. The staff here are beyond reproach. It's my 3rd stay and although I don't look forward to yet another "hotel" room, in another chain but this place is different. The front desk staff goes above and beyond to assist- you need a microwave, sure, we'll heat that up; you need to ship a monitor, let me see if I have a box for you; you're starving at 9:30 at night in a town in the middle of no where- here are some menus for what's open now; oh, you can't get your AC to work, we can change your room temp here from the front desk. They have sparkling and regular water machines on every other floor, the breakfast has fresh options, if you need more toiletries just leave a card outside your door and they'll deliver them in a cute little bag; oh, and the pillows are to die for. Don't even get me started on the size of the rooms- they're gigantic. Simply a great little Inn that's hard to find fault with. If you're in the area, you can't go wrong. I can't speak to the venue reviews but for a "hotel" they are top notch. read more

A completely lovely experience. Service with a smile and a top notch experience checking in. Rooms are bigger than the norm with many nice amenities including full set of toiletries and a separate make up towel so as not to worry about ruining whites. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I had one of the best sleeps of my trip (with 4 different hotels in and around Boston). I don't know when I'd ever find myself in Groton again (was here for a wedding) but would highly recommend the Groton Inn for anyone visiting the area. We ordered Thanksgiving dinner from the Groton Inn Kitchen. It's excellent! It was a meal for four, but after two dinners for two we still have leftovers. Yummy leftovers. The only item I wish had been more generous was the green bean casserole. It's gone. We also got shrimp scampi last week. It was also very good. The shrimp was still perfectly cooked after being reheated. We'll be getting more dinners in the coming weeks. read more

I would not recommend The Groton Inn to anyone thinking about having a wedding reception there or at The Barn at Gibbet Hill. We recently had a room block there for our wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill and were extremely disappointed. Rooms were beautiful and well maintained but other than that I have nothing positive to say about our experience. Multiple family members mentioned front desk staff wasn't super friendly and that it was a difficult experience trying to call in and confirm early check-in on the wedding day. There is a beautiful courtyard with plenty of chairs and couches for folks to sit at but when our group arrived back from the wedding, we were told it's closed because another wedding party had generated noise complaints. We were well aware of the quiet hours rule in our room block contract but at no point did we violate that. They said we could sit under the tent next to Forge & Vine but were then immediately told to move from there as well. We had prepared a ton of snacks and sandwiches for our wedding guests to enjoy after the reception. When I asked where we could go, I was told "we can give you 15 minutes to eat sandwiches out there but that's it". This man we dealt with was rude and proceeded to patrol around us as we ate our sandwiches before ultimately telling us when our time was up. Frankly, this was insulting. Our room block had more than half the hotel booked, and this was a disappointing end to an otherwise wonderful day. I recommend staying anywhere else. read more

Stayed here for two nights and had my credit card maxed out by a $6K authorization prior to arrival. Should have been only $600. Thought that was enough of the worries we would have dealt with but no. We arrived at 6:15pm on a Friday. One person at the desk. Person in front of us was asking question after question about the area, "when was it settled? How long has the inn been here? yadda yadda yadda...". I finally interrupted and asked if anyone else could check us in. The clerk looked at me and said "oh I didn't see you there...". Seriously? You didn't see me... what about the 3 other couples behind me? Any ways we got to our room and rushed to get ready for the rehearsal dinner at 7:00pm. Next morning I got up and drove to DD to get my coffee. Got my paper and went to the patio to read and relax. Needed to run back in so I left my reading glasses, paper and my full hot coffee on the table. When I came out, my coffee and paper wear gone and glasses left on the table. I found both in the garbage. An attendant picked them up thinking they were trash. I could go on and on about the cascade of issues we had at this place but I'll just give you highlights. Housekeeping, needs work. Front desk, needs training. Waitstaff, learn timing. In the end many of us who were here for a wedding had issues but didn't say anything to the married couple. My husband and I just came back from spending our wedding weekend with our guests at the Groton Inn, and we had a fantastic experience! The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and really made us feel at ease amidst the bustle of guests arriving, vendor requests, and schedule changes. Our wedding weekend flowed so smoothly thanks to the work of the Groton Inn staff! Not to mention, we LOVED our spacious room, super comfy bed, and beautiful view. I had a hotel block here at The Groton Inn for my wedding weekend in October. Unfortunately the wedding was cancelled and postponed due to COVID19. I called Holly at the Inn, and she was so helpful! She even cancelled all of the hotel rooms and e-mailed all the guests. It was such a nice touch on behalf of my guests during a difficult time! It is a beautiful hotel. read more

My husband and I stayed at the groton Inn, only because we were attending a wedding at Gibbet Hill. I now know why, there are no pictures of the rooms on the websites....the room was very old, outdated, smelled like musty air. The bathroom was clean, but we left early the next day, without using the showers. The continental breakfast is a box of cheerio's for who ever was intersted?? when we checked in the woman, was too embarrased to show us to our room so she told us where to go. She didn't say much, but was very eager for the remaining balance that we had to pay. The rest of the time, no one was at the desk for any questions . I really just wanted to sleep in our car, but we already paid. If it was not for the wedding we atteneded, I would have never stayed there. read more

Sadly, this place was not good. I've driven by several times and saw the sign advertising lobster/seafood on Thurs. so my mom and I thought we would give it a try. We were seated and given a menu. We overheard the couple at the next table ordering stuff that appeared not to be on our very limited menu. I asked the waitress and she sort of made a face and said we try to push this menu...it's cheaper. What? So anyways we both order the seafood casserole. On the menu it says shrimp, haddock and crab. It comes out shrimp, haddock and scallops. Not a huge deal unless of course you are allergic to scallops. The roasted veg. side was lukewarm, so much so, that the butter wouldn't melt on it. While the casserole looked really good, nice big shrimp, the taste was rather odd. Very sweet. Like candied sweet. Gross. The guy at the next table had to send his steak back. The chef came out and pretty much threw his assistant under the bus saying that she told him when she was hired she knew how to cook a steak. Jeez. Then another family came in and they were asking about lobsters and the waitress said we have one left. This was at 7 and they were already out of lobsters. Maybe they should have taken the big lobster sign down that was outside. The family was disappointed and the waitress was a little rude. To top it off they overcharged my debit card. read more

And the original owner referenced in these reviews has since died. In 2018, the Groton Inn was rebuilt and is under new ownership and management. The "new" Groton Inn is wonderful , the rooms are beautiful, the staff is fantastic and the breakfasts are incredible. How awful is this place??/ You cannot even imagine how awful! Here is the backstory. (Hope you have some time!) For the past few years I have been hosting Thanksgiving dinner for extended family on either the weekend before or after actual Thanksgiving day, leaving just my husband and me to fend for ourselves on the day. Which is fine. A couple of times we went to Silk's at Stonehedge Inn, and that gets 200 stars. Once I roasted a goose for a small gathering. Then, one summer evening at a fabulous dinner at Gilson's Herb Lyceum, another Groton restaurant, we were seated at the same table with the owner of the Stagecoach Inn. He chatted about the work he's done on the place, how the restuarant and inn are a labor of love, a Groton landmark, his visits to Greece...he is a nice sociable person. So, months later when we were selecting a place to have Thanksgiving dinner, I thought of the Stagecoach Inn, checked the menu on their website, and made reservations. First thing I see as we enter: a hand-scribbled note on a piece of cardboard taped to the door--"Come In, We're Open on Thanksgiving." Classy. It was downhill from there, decor-wise. Ceramic roosters, little Chinese dolls, crocheted tea cozies, American eagles. Hello, pick a theme. Plastic tablecloths. I'm not kidding. We were seated next to a multi-generational group of very loud people. Must be genetic. But they were almost finished, so no biggie. I cannot remember what I ordered, but my husband, who is a huge fan of duck, ordered that. In some kind of cherry sauce. What kind of cherry sauce, you ask? How about maraschino cherry pieces and juice, right out of the bottle. Probably the same things they used in the Shirley Temples that were getting the kids at the next table all hyper. It was pretty bad. But we had been told about the dessert buffet, so we were looking forward to that. (It may not be fair that our point of reference for dessert buffet is Silk's. It has to be seen to be believed. Scrumptious. And gorgeous.) Back to Stagecoach Inn. There was a table of pies. No attention to presentation, just pies with slices taken out of them, crumbs all over the place. Yuck. All I could imagine was that family of inbreds leaving their body mites on the food that I was contemplating eating, and oops, there went my appetite. So, there you have it. The place is all New England colonial, on the historic registry, and could be a gem, but it isn't. I wonder how the rooms are. It's really too bad, maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen, but that doesn't explain how hodge-podgey the place looks. And the restaurant is not responsible for their clientele, but in any case, one visit there did it for me. Edit: In order to edify the second reviewer, let me clarify that my visit to this place was in 2004. I can only hope the new owners have improved every aspect of the dining experience. However, I'd need to get a gift certificate or freebie before I'd go again when I CAN GO TO GILSON'S and not worry about a hit or miss experience. Let's chill, shall we? So no, I wasn't guessing what it is like now. I was critiquing the place when I was there. But if I do hanker for some great Greek food, I'll head on over to Athenian Corner or Olympia in Lowell. We had tried the Groton Inn twice for dinner and twice for the brunch between '05-'09. Every time the food was awful and swore off visiting again. So when we heard the restaurant had a new chef, we decided to give it *one* more chance. What a turn around! We had the duck and haddock dinners. Both were cooked perfectly with the perfect types of seasoning The vegetables and potatoes were fresh and also cooked perfectly! Finally, we ordered dessert, which was excellent too. I took off one star because the place still that old 60's feel (low ceilings, dimmly lit interior, old style trim, swinging bar near-by, etc) and I think the Groton Inn's restaurant could do with a physical make-over. Overheard the overnight front desk receptionist complaining LOUDLY on what seemed like a personal phone call about guests at the hotel. I've been to Stagecoach Inn twice. I think it is one of the better places around 495 to just hang out and listen to live music on a Friday night, with a friend or a date, on a Fall or Winter night. There are several cozy fireplaced rooms, including a small tavern style bar to go between. The food is reasonably priced and flavorful. The food does tend to be spicy and is not the standard pub fare type food one would expect with the atmosphere. read more

I went there a few times and couldn't get past the many flies. The tables & chairs were metal. I once saw George the owner cleaning the floors, hands dirty and then going into the kitchen & preparing food. I had to leave. Now that the Inn has burned to the ground he wants to open up a seafood restaurant. Stay away. I checked the Nashoba Board of Health and found that the restaurant reserved food. Meaning that someone couldn't eat the food, so the waitress took the plate back to the kitchen and that same plate was served to another customer. Yum, but the town never shut him down. read more

This is more specifically a review of the Groton Inn Kitchen, which was just recently launched by the reopened Groton Inn, as a means of serving diners during the pandemic, particularly now that the weather has turned colder. The idea is to offer for takeout homestyle meals that change daily. One day it might be shepherd's pie, the next chicken parmesan and the next roast turkey. The meals come family style, all prepared, with a side salad and a dessert and can be ordered for two, four or six people. Then you just drive up to the front of the inn at your appointed time and they bring it right to your car. Couldn't be simpler. And the food is delicious, prepared right in the Groton Inn Kitchen. We had the shepherd's pie on a recent Friday and it was fantastic. Kudos to the folks at the Inn for coming up with this idea. We'll definitely be back, and hopefully others will support the Inn, too. read more

We spent just one night at the Groton Inn and had a very pleasant time. Reception Manager, Millie Secco, was very friendly and accommodating. She even gave us an upgrade because it was my birthday. The lobby looked like a faithful reproduction of the original, colonial era inn, which burned down in 2011. They kept the colonial theme throughout the inn, which we liked. The room and adjoining bathroom were huge and well appointed with modern everything, It even included a 3-cushion convertible sofa and a Keurig for coffee and tea. The only negative we could find was that because room was so big, the TV was too far away from the bed to see any detail, which was hard for my husband because of his limited eyesight. The complementary continental breakfast included eggs, bacon, sausage, yoghurt, fruit, granola, bagels, toast, orange and grapefruit, regular and decaf coffee, and a variety of teas. All in all, we would recommend the Groton Inn and would stay there again if the opportunity arose. read more

We went to the Groton Inn on Sunday for Mother's Day (May 8th) for their buffet. Our reservation was for 16 people at 11:30am. When we went to get the food, they had limited food for us to pick from. When we got to the bacon, the owner who was manning the food, gave my fiance 1 strip. When he asked if that was it, the owner informed him that he couldn't give him more because he had to give some to others. His sister reached the bacon when it was out and was informed that they were getting more. Only to find out that they had no intention of putting out more food. Another member of our party was told that they were closing in 10 minutes and there was no more food. We were appalled at how the owner was treating us, a party of 16, who had made reservations. He came into the room where we were dining and informed us that he had about 75 walk-ins and what was he to do? Turn them away? We explained yes because we had a reservation. He then proceeded to tell us that he didn't even want to make the reservation for us and that he could offer us the lunch buffet. We advised that no, we wanted breakfast and we couldn't stay there all day. This was for a $20pp buffet and none of us ate $10 worth of food. My stepson had 1/4 of a bagel and his meal was $10. We ordered tea, it came out as decaf. The tomato juice was actually tomato sauce. There were countless grocery stores nearby and if they felt they were going to run out of food, someone needed to go buy some more. Poor management, poor food, horrible experience. They gave us $5 off of each of our meals. So for $15 we could've gotten salmon at the Outback. This owner needs to rethink why he's in business and learn to work with the customers. Worst Experience EVER. Our family will not return to this location unless someone else manages/owns it. read more

My daughter and I had dinner here a couple of weeks ago. The food was awful, the atmosphere dark and a little sad. There is no ambience -- the chairs are the metal and naugahyde kind used for large events at cheap hotels, the lighting dim verging on dark. There was an empty buffet table set up along one wall with tablecloths that looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the last time the table was used. We were the only diners in the restaurant at 6:30 midweek, though there were a few people in the bar listening to some live bluegrass. There was one waitress that I think was doing double duty in the bar. Honestly, we wouldn't have even stayed except we were hungry and needed a relatively quick meal and there just aren't that many options in Groton. There was an extensive menu, but we thought it best to order the simplest food possible. I had ravioli in tomato sauce that tasted like someone had sprinkled sugar on top. I asked for some grated cheese, and the waitress came back with a small plastic cup of cheese powder from the fridge that smelled well past prime. This feels like a restaurant being run by people who have no idea what they're doing. The exterior of the building is beautiful, so I echo those who say it would be nice if new owners came in to give this place a new life. read more
