To give him benefit of the doubt, I HAD called near closing time. Also possible that he's overworked... whatever it was, I understand. That was my sole verbal interaction with a representative of this company. Several weeks since then, I've emailed Action Machine Shop with specific questions regarding work I'd like done on my engine and requesting a quote. I have not heard back in 4 business days. By this point I've seen zero interest from Action Machine in taking my money & business. I may not be their ideal client. At this point, between two well-known shops in the Seattle area, I'm happy sitting on the 6-month waiting list for Pacific Auto Machine. I'd rather wait my turn than beg this shop on my hands and knees to work on my lowly Toyota 4 cylinder, let alone teach me a thing or two.

Brandon hands me a invoice for an additional $400. Said he had to do extra machining? I had already paid for valves and springs. I looked down in the intake and exhaust runners and noticed that he had taken my new valves and installed used burned valves. Trying to get one over on me, hoping I wouldn't notice. Even when I came back and showed him, he did not give two.shi$$s. So I had a talk with the guy who did the initial head job. Reluctantly, he gave me back my $400 but only after I caught them. Use them at your own risk, and if you do, check to make sure the work was done correctly and parts are not someone else's junk.

I had never heard once form them. I had called and been in the shop at least half a dozen times, and Ive always been told in a week or two. At one time I was told Brandon was on jury duty. So finally august 19th I went in and picked up my headders (he was suppose to use them for port matchuing) I then said, "have you even started yet" and Brandon told me yes, that they would be done the next day. So 2 days later I went to pick up my heads and they were hacekd up and then welded. Even the Owner Scotty Jay said WTF when I first talked to him. Some of the welds were huge and ugly bubbles. Everything including the springs and passages were painted. I assume this was for a testing application. But painting the springs? that is trash work! I don't know how long those will hold. I happen to work for a mobile welder, We use welding inspection tools let that sink in. His welds are TERRIBLE! I digress, Brandon painted every surface of the heads, including the springs and the oil passages and I don't want that crap flaking off into my brand new engine I just rebuilt. I have all sorts of machinist tools and repair many mechanical things. However, I am not setup for head work. SO, Yea I had a thousand dollars cash in my hand. Im so glad I asked him why he welded cuz he started stuttering and saying some crap about the springs were too big, I wanted to yell but I listened. He said everything is find. Don't worry. I stuffed a piece of chocolate in my mouth from their counter so I did not say anything stupid and left mumbling "Im trying to be nice" I did scream im not stupid and FUCK you from my car as I did a burn out leaving the shop spit the chocolate out of my window towards their shop. IF THE SPRINGS WERE WRONG CALL THE CUSTOMER! I repeat! you never called me ONCE. Some back ground? I ls swap cars, I repair semis and diesel trucks. I have never found an automotive repair I can't do. I know what Im doing. They may be able to bully most people around with fast whizbang talk but not me. Not only is their work dimensionally accurate, every component is meticulously deburred, clean and packaged. Owner, Glenn Ryan is the "real deal" in technical knowledge and metal-working experience. Somewhat quiet, with a dry humor, he is exceptionally thoughtful in his approach to processing methods and scheduling...he's the kind to ask, "Glenn, how would you make this part". Ltd.Prod. is equally strong in both turning and milling, and just as willing to do a proto-type, as a 1000-pc run. They're equally experienced with stainless, aluminum and plastic and have mfg'd all of the above for me over 5-6 years. They quote their work and honor they're quotes. Delivery times are pretty "on the mark". If Glenn can't meet the requested date, he'll tell you so on the front end, not on due date. Prices are mid-range and fair. But quality exceeds other shops, so I consider the value-proposition to be better at Ltd.Prod. They deserve 5-stars!

In February 2020 I came to Phil with a basic build for a 1995 Miata turbo engine. It required basic…read moremachining like line honing and boring the cylinders for oversized pistons and a head skim. Throughout the process Phil caused numerous delays, lost parts, and let the work drag on. It was nearly 6 months, in August 2020, before Phil returned the completed longblock to me. While running low boost during break in, a freeze plug popped out. My tuner and I suspected that the head had lifted due to improper installation, in which Phil was paid to do. This would allow compression to get into the coolant cavities and force that plug out. Phil was accommodating and replaced the plug. However, when the plug was replaced the motor had low compression so I specifically asked Phil to test the head. He never tested the compression but "fixed the compression issues" (at my expense) and gave the car back saying the compression was good. He and his partner mechanic claimed the compression was off due to the timing belt being two whole teeth off! Two days after driving the car again, another freeze plug popped out. The car went back into their care and custody in which they decided to blame the tune that the car has been running absolutely fine on throughout its whole life before that engine was built and during. Phil and his mechanic claimed this tune destroyed my engine and I would have to source a whole new block! Subsequent diagnoses by a separate, trusted, machine shop and tuner proved that the gasket blew between all cylinders and into the coolant cavities. There was absolutely no detonation or any potential tune related issues. The trusted shop has examined the head and stated "all valves are leaking and have sealing issues. This could be due to a lack of proper valve guide issues or other valve concerns. The cylinder head is already well below minimum thickness before any additional machine operations were begun." Phil machined, assembled and installed this head and was specifically told it came off an engine that had overheated so we needed to make sure it didn't get skimmed too much. The piston rings were not properly gapped causing the rings to buckle and melt the pistons. The oil squirters were not installed correctly and were found in the oil pan. This was all discovered by a different shop. His neglect and inability to work with his customers caused over a year of wasted time. His lack of craftsmanship and inability to take accountability for his work has left me with an inoperative and expensive engine that has never run correctly since he rebuilt it. Take caution before you go here

However in the last several months the quality or work had dropped off or he has started severely overcharging. I had him clean a couple oil pans and a few parts and even though I told him to only run them through the sprayer booth he without consent media blasted and other thing to the tune of 500$. Once I returned to the shop I found a bit of runt on a Rod journal and called him to give him a heads up. next visit I took him a cylinder head and what I received in return was half of a camshaft out of a running OEM engine (with out any rust) came back badly rusted. When ever I spoke with him all I heard about the job was "AH!". Gary seems to have no idea what is going on. It's very sad to see this shop going out of business. When you attempt to drop off items the entire driveway has been sold to the tire shop. When asked about the significant rust they left on my clients camshafts, Gary simply said you'll need to remove the rust. He stated the he "Never looked at the job." It unfortunate that his brain can't wrap itself around the fact that it's time to sell before there is nothing left. they are doing greater damage then any benefit possible. I'm sorry to see you go Gary!!! These cams may have been coated with oil but there was NO!! "rust" prior to visiting Pacific Auto Machine!!!
