Over the 5-10 minute call, I felt as though he was uninterested in meeting me where I was at, offering me advice, or perhaps he just didn't want to touch my engine. To give him benefit of the doubt, I HAD called near closing time. Also possible that he's overworked... whatever it was, I understand. That was my sole verbal interaction with a representative of this company. Several weeks since then, I've emailed Action Machine Shop with specific questions regarding work I'd like done on my engine and requesting a quote. I have not heard back in 4 business days. By this point I've seen zero interest from Action Machine in taking my money & business. I may not be their ideal client. At this point, between two well-known shops in the Seattle area, I'm happy sitting on the 6-month waiting list for Pacific Auto Machine. I'd rather wait my turn than beg this shop on my hands and knees to work on my lowly Toyota 4 cylinder, let alone teach me a thing or two.

Action Machine has detailed pricing on their website and from that I quoted the customer a price. 2 hours of my labor to remove the head and an hour to drive to Action only to find out the prices on their website aren't accurate. The new price was +$200 more than what I had quoted my customer. This is called Bait and Switch, is dishonest and broke any trust I had with this business. Didn't feel I could trust them if they told me I had bent valves, worn guides or a warped surface. Discussed with the customer and they decided this was out of their budget and had also lost confidence in this shop to do honest work. I retrieved the head before they did any thing. My customer will bank the $$$ and just put up with the rough idle.

I've never been the confrontational type let alone someone who writes reviews but the way I was…read moretreated by Pat was unacceptable and needs to be addressed. Pat is a bully who can't take accountability for the mistakes of his shop. I took my head in to get resurfaced and checked for cracks. When his employee was taking the head out of my car he dropped it and cracked a trim piece in my trunk. I didn't notice the crack, or the fragments that I believe to be from the head, until I got home from the shop. Upon discovering the damage I went straight back to inform Pat. As soon as I mentioned the crack he became very defensive, telling me that it was my fault his employee dropped the head and that he would have L&I come after me because his employee cut his finger during the drop. I'm not sure he knows how L&I works but regardless I bet L&I and OSHA would love to know that his employees aren't using proper PPE. Then, I went to go retrieve my head because there was no way I wanted them to work on it after that and on my way out of the shop Pat threatened to "come at me" if I even thought about writing a bad review for their shop. When I asked him if that was a threat he backpedaled and said that he would blast me on the internet if I wrote a bad review. At this time it was obvious that nothing positive would come from this interaction so I decided to remove myself from the situation and leave the shop. As I was loading the the head back into my car he proceeded to follow his employee out to my car because his employee wanted to see the damage. Pat sounded upset about it saying that his employee "wanted to be a nice guy" in a very condescending tone. I could tell that the employee felt bad about the situation. I hold no bad feelings toward him specifically but I do feel bad that he has to work for such a terrible person. All of this could have been avoided if Pat was able to handle the situation professionally and take accountability for his shop's mistake.

I try to understand other perspectives and not leave negative reviews but I wouldn't want anyone…read moreelse to be treated in the same dishonest, confrontational and disrespectful way as us. My son was quoted a flat rate for resurfacing heads and then upon returning to pick them up the next day, there was an additional charge for 50% more on top of the quote. The owner itemized it as "removing the pulley gear" which was never discussed when we dropped the part off and should have been mentioned. But the money wasn't the biggest issue, it was his attitude toward me and the way he bullied my son when we had questions. I called to ask why he didn't mention this fee when we dropped the heads off (or called us to okay the additional fee) and he didn't have an answer. He later told my son it was because he wasn't paying attention and didn't have time to call us and ask...that's negligence on his part that he then passed on to us. When I told him I would have appreciated a call and that wasn't right to surprise us upon pick up, he told me if I didn't like the price I could just leave our parts there and forget about them, call the police, or file a claim with the better business bureau. What on earth?! He also condescendingly said to my son (whose car part it was) "if you didn't have your mommy call to ask about the charge, and instead discussed this like a real man, maybe I could have cut you a deal." Absolutely unexceptionable. Bullying a teenager is not a good look. A customer should be able to call and ask for clarification when they're paying for a service. Stay far away from this business. They're untrustworthy, extremely disrespectful and then confrontational on top of that.
