In addition, I've really been craving proper curry, sausage rolls, and steak pie. When we were in Dripping Springs we stopped into The Great British Baking Company to satisfy all of my needs and cravings. And boy did they ever! Stocked up on digestives, crisps, tea, brown sauce and a few other things. Also bought some savory pies (potato/onion, steak, chicken curry, beef and potato. Of course, we couldn't leave without Millionaires Shortbread either. Listen, literally everything we bought is amazing and tastes like London, Bristol, and Manchester. The bakery has a nice dining area for eat-in. The entire place is spotless. The service...well it's proper.

We also tried a slice of tiramisu, also good. This was our first time here, so we required a lot of hand holding while ordering, but the staff was patient. I've adjusted it to reflect what actually happened and made the sequence clearer…read more The shop was clean, welcoming, and the gelato itself was delicious. I'd definitely come back because the quality of the gelato was excellent. The only area that could use some improvement was the customer service flow. When we walked in, there was one employee working, a customer with three young children who was taking quite a while deciding on flavors, and another customer who appeared to be waiting to pay. I don't know how long he had already been waiting, but by the time he finally paid, he had nearly finished eating his gelato. While the family was still deciding, the customer herself kindly told us to go ahead and place our order so she wouldn't keep holding us up. We appreciated that gesture and stepped up to order. I ordered chocolate and stracciatella. When I asked for chocolate, the employee asked if I was sure and whether I'd had it before. She did offer me a sample, which was thoughtful, but it caught me off guard since I wasn't expecting to have to justify my flavor choice. I also asked if they had cones, and she said they didn't. She then asked what size cup I wanted. I replied that I'd like one scoop of each flavor, not realizing the scoop count and cup size were separate choices. It took a couple of exchanges before I understood what she meant. A little more explanation upfront would have made the ordering process much smoother. After our gelato was prepared, I expected we'd be able to pay and move on. Instead, the employee immediately went back to helping the family continue sampling and deciding on flavors before ringing us up. By the time we were finally able to pay, my husband had almost finished eating his gelato. The employee was genuinely friendly and patient, especially with the family, and I understand it's not easy managing everything alone. I just think some additional training on balancing multiple customers--such as quickly checking out customers whose orders are already complete before returning to someone who is still deciding--would make the experience much smoother for everyone. Overall, the gelato was delicious, the shop was clean, and I'd happily come back. I just hope the service flow improves because the product itself is definitely worth the visit.

I've been wanting to try this spot for the last several years but anytime we're in Dripping Springs…read morefor a day trip, our plans never seem to work out. We arrived for brunch (they serve brekkie and lunch) and there was a line to get in. To be expected at a popular restaurant on a Saturday. However, the line moved quickly. Ordering is very much European style which is fitting as the owners are Belgian. You walk in and order at the counter, get a number, have a seat, and the food is brought out to you. It takes time to get the food, not a terribly long time but you do have to wait. Everything is housemade to order and well worth it. Exceptional European breads, cakes, croissants, soups, sandwiches, and a whole lot more. I had the breakfast croissant with ham and it was amazeballs! It had pesto as well, yum. The croissant was soft, buttery, and flaky but strong enough to hold a sandwich together. My boyfriend had a chipotle brekkie sandwich on ciabatta bread with eggs, turkey bacon, etc. It was equally as delicious as my sandwich. We also grabbed a couple of Belgian chocolate croissants for home. Ah, to have the flavors of Belgium and Europe in Texas is a true delight. The decor is shabby chic inside and out and I'm here for it. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. Coffee counter where you can get excellent lattes and other coffee drinks. Service is crazy good, happy, and friendly...even while they're jam packed and super busy! Absolutely cannot wait to go back again.

I was really disappointed with my experience at Thyme & Dough…read more Per my confirmed order ticket, I arrived and placed my order at 9:13 a.m. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches and two iced coffees, and my total came to $42.80, including a 20% tip. After waiting over 20 minutes without any update, I asked around 9:34 a.m. how much longer my order would take. Instead of simply apologizing or providing an update, the employee checked my payment time and told me that the wait was "right on target" for a good breakfast. When I politely expressed that the wait seemed excessive for what I had ordered, she reiterated that this was normal and that good food takes time to prepare. I didn't feel those comments were necessary--they made me feel dismissed rather than understood. She also stated there had been a long line ahead of us, which wasn't accurate. When I arrived at 9:13, there was only one customer finishing her order at the register. I finally received my food at approximately 9:38 a.m. While I understand that fresh food takes time, a 25-minute wait for two breakfast sandwiches and two iced coffees, especially with no proactive communication, felt excessive. A simple acknowledgment of the delay or a more empathetic response would have made a significant difference. Instead, I left feeling that my concerns were brushed aside. Between the lengthy wait, the dismissive interaction, and the overall experience, I didn't feel the service justified the price or the 20% tip that was included in my purchase. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Sure enough, after the hike, I was pretty hungry. I rehydrated and ate a protein bar as I drove to the bake shop. The shop is tucked away as part of a brewery complex, in a modern barn building. As I approached, I wondered if anyone else would be there. Fortunately there was a small crowd there on a a Saturday afternoon. In the middle of their industrial space was a classic bakery counter. Most of their treats and sandwiches looked too heavy to eat while I was still a little dehydrated, but fortunately they had just one chocolate chip cookie left. I ordered it, and devoured it. It wasn't quite as dense and chewy as I like, but still pretty good. If you happen to be starving after a hike, or just randomly find yourself in Dripping Springs, stop by Abby Jane Bakeshop!

TLDR: Was visiting my daughter, we decided to do a little road trip to some hill cntry towns. I…read morethought we would do a bbq sandwich tour/comparison. I'd earmarked Old 300 as the place in Blanco, to go up against the others. We arrived on a Monday about 1:20p. After lunch hour, and the place was packed. (that's an indicator right there. One of the slowest days for restaurants during the week, and not at peak meal time.) The line went quick. They have what's listed as a "BBQ Sandwich" - it's a blend of chopped brisket and chopped pulled pork (not in long, stringy strands) together. We were going to hit other towns & sandwiches, so for the two of us we just ordered one sandwich and a side of potato salad. We got it to-go. Sat at an empty table. Got ourselves fixins - some doctored up onions (sliced, seems like they sauté them a little in butter and then top w fresh cracked black pepper), pickles, and both their Sweet and their Spicy sauces. They brought it out quickly, less than 5 min. We opted to just eat it there instead of take it to the next town. We topped with pickles, onions, and the Sweet sauce. Oh my freakin' sweet Lord! In this small Texas town with an unassuming spot a block and a half off the main road going through town, easily one of the top 5 bbq sandwiches of all time - no joke! To break it down, we tasted all items individually. The onions are delectable - softened from the sauté, good moisture from the butter, delicious. The Sweet sauce is crazy good. A fantastic balance of sweet, tang, & slight bite. I've never said this before but it's true - told my daughter, "I could just sit here and dip these pickles in this sauce for the next 30 minutes and be completely satisfied." The sauce, yes, is that good. Daughter is not a heat/spice lover, but she did try the Spicy sauce and we both thought it was definitely tame as far as heat goes. We both thought the Spicy sauce was okay. The Sweet sauce, though, stellar! We were overwhelmed by how good it all was. When we got to the car, I said, "All the ingredients together was like a symphony." Next time I visit her, am absolutely gonna suggest another drive out to Blanco specifically, to try some other items on the menu. But I can say this, for the BBQ Sandwich, pickles, doctored onions, and Sweet sauce alone, Old 300 is worth a generous drive and you will 100 percent be happy as a lark. Thanks for fantastic meal, Old 300. Will most definitely be back.

It was a great beef stew. Makes me regret every microwave stew I ever had growing up in the '70's. Butter chicken was another hit.
