From start to finish, our experience with Destination Kia was wonderful. We strolled in on a Wednesday afternoon and met with Dennis, who impressed us with his no-nonsense approach. After hearing out our vehicle needs, he recommended a car we liked and we test drove it. We were in communication with Dennis via text on Thursday while we explored some non-Kia options. By Friday we were ready to take the plunge. Dennis took most of our information over the phone. He ran our credit and set the car up with my insurance agent. By Saturday, all he had to do was hand us the keys. I was not surprised at all to learn Dennis is one of the top salesmen in the US. I would recommend him to anyone any day of the week. read more

Avoid at all costs! Just within the past few weeks: I took 2 cars in for an oil change and NYS inspection. Care One, which I've never had any issues with before, passed inspection and I was out the door within an hour. A week later the check engine light came on. I brought the car back the evening before my new appointment, and they didn't even look at it for 24 hours. They are now claiming that the check engine issue couldn't possibly have anything to do with anything they did just a week earlier. They are also now telling me that I need new tires, despite not recommending them just a week ago, which makes me wonder if the tires were even inspected the first time as required by law. For Car two, I arrived for a 7AM appointment. At about 8:30 I was told the car wouldn't be looked at until at least 11:00, and was offered a shuttle to work. OK - fine. I called at 12:30 for an update and was told the car still wasn't looked at. Finally at 3:00 I was told that I needed new tires to pass inspection, and that the car would be done at the end of the day. Unfortunately, the shuttle stopped at 3:00, so I had to take an Uber back. Today I found out that my tread depth was 2/32. Which means that new tires were a good idea, but not required to pass inspection. So I was scammed out of $1000 for new tires, which would have cost significantly less elsewhere. read more

Found a car online and emailed for more info. Was told the car was still available and scheduled an appointment to go look at said car. Drive an hour to get there and was told that said car had been sold. Then I'm offered a higher priced car that I clearly said no to. I then watch the salesman who I was dealing with go outside to talk to the sales manager and see him tell the sales manager that I said no to a higher priced car. Sales manager then shrugs his shoulders as if to say oh well. That was all for me, I promptly stood up and started walking out to leave. That one poor non-verbal cue by the sales manager was enough for me to know I would never buy a car there. I'll be sure to warn the many friends and family that I have to never go to this place. I find it extremely hard to believe that the individual charged with communicating to customers who works "in the back" does not have live access to what cars have sold. If they don't, maybe you should consider investing in some new technology that gives up to the minute updates on cars in stock. From the moment I walked in I could tell this place was poorly managed. Loud music played in the showroom and the atmosphere was less than professional. Not really sure how this place manages to sell cars. I was glad to leave when I did! Walked in and they had a nice lady at a desk setting up for people to be seen etc but when I was sat down a man came and I told them my budget I was working with he checked it out and just said no we don't have any in that price range looking mad I even asked him that number so I upped the price and he went to look again and found 1 I asked if I could see meaning if I could see why he was looking at on the tablet he had it facing him whole time and made it seem like I didn't think he was telling the truth saying it was only 1 vehicle lol I've had better experiences with playing with ants read more

I scheduled an appointment at Destination Kia Albany specifically for a recall repair, which I clearly explained when booking. After driving nearly 50 minutes and spending over an hour, we were told the recall couldn't be completed because the part hadn't been ordered. That should have been done when the appointment was made -- especially since they confirmed the recall in advance. Instead of resolving the issue, we were handed a list of nearly $2,000 in recommended repairs, including a $67 cabin air filter. We were also told the service would take 2 hours, so my son asked to take the shuttle to the mall -- only to be told the shuttle wouldn't leave until an hour later. I ended up spending $40 on an Uber, and the car was ready in one hour anyway... because no work was done. When I asked why the part wasn't ready, they said the scheduler doesn't know what's in stock and that the car needs to be inspected first sometimes. Then why not tell us that up front? Other Kia locations can see that info -- why not this one? We were considering buying a new Kia this spring, but this experience has completely changed our minds. If I could leave zero stars I would. This happened on Monday, June 30th, 2025. Went for an oil change, they recommended breaks, so I went for a full brake job. Picked up the car and 15 minutes down the road I hear knocking in the back and have the feeling of no brake fluid. Fortunately, I was able to avoid an accident and find a safe place to park. I find that my rear left wheel is covered in brake fluid, and the caliper wasn't even attached. The piston came completely out. I then call Kia to explain the situation and the two questions from the woman on the phone were how far away are you from the dealership, and do you think you could drive back. Seriously? After an hour dealing with the tow truck, upon arriving to Kia not one person from management expressed any resemblance of care. We asked to see my car up on the lift and to speak with the mechanic who worked on the car. He simply forgot to screw whatever was needed back on. I asked if they test drove it, and the answer was a 7 mile test drive.. however my in and out mileage on the paperwork was a difference of 1, so that was a lie. I even game him a second chance and he lied again. We were told that they had to order the part and would overnight it if possible, and that Wednesday I should be able to pick it up. I was called around 3pm on Wednesday to be told that they just started working on it, and when I requested an order history of the part they completely ignored it. This place is the most untrustworthy dealership in the area and should be ashamed for the "5 star" service they preach. This dealership's service is the most worst service I have ever seen. They used to be so good. My car was towed in 2 weeks ago. For repeat 1326 code. I've read all about the lawsuit against them, and I understood that yeah, they were a little backed up. It happens time to time. But all I've asked for was a phone call of an update before. Went in for my new 2025 k5's first maintenance (covered under warranty). While I was there I also mentioned a defect bubble in my driver's side front tire. My dad explained/ask about it being a defect considering I travel for work and he only takes it out once in a great while so it doesnt get rusty-they were defensive, dismissive and said it must've been our fault but they said theyll take a look. After waiting 2 hours, we were quoted for a new tire and was told itd be 200$ and take "about 20 minutes". Because I already came from over an hour away, I decided why not. After waiting another hour and me asking about an update, they finally admitted that they mounted the tire on wrong and had to fix it. I ended up waiting 3.5 hours for an oil change and paying $220 for a new tire and a half-assed apology. The saga continues.....we left feeling annoyed and it was very busy so we wanted to get out of there. When I pulled into the driveway (did I mention I live over an hour away?) I saw the same tire on my drivers side front. ...now completely confused, it wasnt until I did a walk around my car to see they replaced THE WRONG TIRE. Because the shop had closed for the day, I immediately reached out to the Destination Kia cusotomer service online help to explain my issue. I also reached out to the manager Brandon, whom I was working with. After being transferred to a voicemail numerous times-and leaving more than one-I was given no response. I can say cit is blatant that ustomer service is a very low priority. Luckily for Brandon and his team, they have a second chance to fix my problem because I also had to schedule a recall appointment, which happens to be tomorrow. We shall see how this goes. I scheduled an appointment for tires and oil change and when I arrived was told they don't save tires for there appointments and they might not have them in stock. also tried checking my car in before my wife showed up and I was told with out car you are not a customer. then when I complained about his comment , employee said he would not even service the vehicle if he had his choice. terrible service and customer service does nothing to help when you try to get help about my service. thank you and I will not be using this dealer again!!! HOW TO FAIL in customer service, aka my experience with DESTINATION KIA, Albany NY (don't even get me going on Matthews Kia, also a trainwreck).   Also note, I work for myself and if I ran my business like they do, I'd have no clients.  They are not Kooky in any good way, that's a tired old marketing phrase that should go - perhaps they should cut their advertising budget and spend more money on training or hiring more people!! All I want (which is what anyone would want and how I run my business) is for people to be honest, return calls when they say they are (or give updates) and not overpromise.  DESTINATION KIA consistently fails (both service people and managers). My car has been there for over 3 weeks now (I paid for a rental for over 2 weeks as the policy now is that the dealer won't provide a rental until they determine my issue was not caused by an "outside source" (it wasn't).  Also note when they had to order tires for me earlier this year from CT, they freely gave me a rental for several days as it was over a weekend.  Finally this past Monday (7/21/25) I received a rental from them as they had done a diagnostic of my car from the back corner parking lot with large trash around it (I guess this is done?).  I walked in after seeing that and they said they did that and  it needed a part they had in stock; they hoped to get it in put in on Monday/Tuesday.  On Tuesday morning when I called, they said the new part was put in but blew out 2 other electrical parts, so they would have to order part (s) and were hoping to have my car back to me this past Weds/Thurs. It is now Friday 5pm as I write this (having made calls yesterday and 3x this afternoon), and no one can give me an update on the status.  It is just unacceptable to be going through this (and my car is just turning 3 years old).  I WARN YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM DESTINATION KIA (AND MATTHEWS KIA)....and although I love my car when it works, never KIA again.  It's time they grew up and treated their customers better! read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR SERVICE. To say they don't have their act together is a huge understatement. They're obviously so tired of hearing complaints from customers and customers that call to check on the status of their vehicles that have sat there for DAYS without being looked at that they REFUSE TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR CALL PEOPLE BACK. First off I have NOT purchased a car from Destination (yet that is). I have been there 2x to look at cars. First time was with a friend who was interested in trading in her car for a Kia. That was a complete waste of time! The car that was advertised on the website that we were interested in when brought up for a test drive had a banged up fender and a mess! So needless to say it was not ready for sale. Not sure where they got the pictures to post of the vehicle. But what was really annoying was they would not give a value on her trade-in unless she was ready to commit to purchase a vehicle that day! REALLY!! Jump ahead a year. I went to test drive a 2025 Sportage and get the numbers on the value of my trade in and cost. This time they did value my car. Though I like the Sportage I just felt that they were too pushy and just something about the dealership rubs me the wrong way, "Give us your $$ and take a number in the complaint line" No matter how much I said I just want to think about it they kept pushing "When you want to pick it up" ,"What can we do to get you in it today?" It they had respected my wish to think about it for a day or two I would be more keen to purchase. But since they were so pushy and reading the negative reviews on here of service and the dealership I think I will pass. Matthews isn't much better but they weren't that pushy! Also what is up with the $500 "recondition" fee that destination charges on a trade-in? Sounds to me another way to low-ball you on trade-in price. DO NOT BUY A USED CAR FROM DESTINATION KIA. THEY ARE A HOT MESS, AND HAD US PUT A DEPOSIT DOWN ON A CAR THAT WAS NOT LEGAL TO SELL. We went to see a used Kia Sorento here, and were immediately asked multiple times to put a deposit down on the spot. We didn't appreciate the aggressive asking, but we liked the car, so we put a deposit down the next day. Several days later, well into our hour-long drive to Albany to get the car, we were called saying that there was an issue with the car's title, and we wouldn't be able to drive it home. We were almost there, so we stopped in anyway to see what was up, and ended up having a useless conversation with a manager, David, who was less personable and sympathetic than a literal rock, and had no idea how to deal with an unsatisfied customer. As of this week, going into week 3 of this fiasco, they were still jerking us around and making us wait. Yesterday, we gave up on Destination Kia, found a similar used car at Romeo Kia in Kingston, and were able to get everything squared away within hours on the same day. Romeo Kia was friendly, there was none of the same pressure to put money down, and most importantly, the car was actually clear to take home. I cannot urge you enough to avoid Destination Kia. The whole experience reeked of incompetence, and we'll be asking for our deposit back. What kind of car dealership tries to sell you a car that you literally can't buy? read more

My husband's appointment was for February 26th. It is now March 18th and we had to call to get a status. They're still waiting for the part, and of course no one bothered to call us with a status. Absolutely terrible. Had an appointment for a recall service for a month. When I showed up, they didn't have the appointment on record but took the vehicle. Said it would be done by the end of the day, then called later to say it wasn't done because they didn't have the part that was the ONLY reason that I dropped it for the recall. Told me they'd have the part in the morning and would get it done the next day. Next day, the part didn't come, so still not done. The day after THAT, I make multiple calls, no answer and the voicemail is full. I show up and they tell me it's still not done, so I took the car back. So I make a new appointment for a month later. Tell me it will be done by the end of the day. They call me and say it won't be done by the end of the day because they are short staffed, which they could have TOLD me when I was dropping it off. If I could've given 0 stars, I would've. I brought my car in for a diagnostic, and now it seems as though theyre holding my car hostage. I had no issues other than​ the check engine light, which another mechanic found no major problems. I was told my car would be reasy by the end of the day on 10/16, and she called me right before closing to tell me I have two options, "get a room to pick up your car tomorrow, or Uber home"(home is 1.25hrs away) I call her back today, on 10/17 and was informed my car parts aren't put back into my vehicle and I can not pick it up. Now I am told that if her tech is in on monday, I may be able to pick it up after. Oh, and not to mention the $3,100 repairs she says that I will need done to drive off with my car. Theyre have no been helpful, but moreso aggressive in making any sale they can as she tolf me I should see about getting another car through sales, or I need to get the work done as my car cant be driven but ive been driving it for 4 years! read more

I leased three cars from this dealership. I liked the cars and the way they drove. What I didn't like was the way they tried to charge me an extra $5000 for MSRP in 2022, bringing the cost to over $700 per month to lease a KIA Sorrento ! They refused to budge, so I went to HONDA and leased a new Honda Passport for $593 per month. After I went to Honda, the district manager from KIA reached out to me and told me that he could remove the additional charge!! Too late! By then I had already ordered a new Honda. The sales rep was amazing and was completely honest with me. No hassle, just great. I just leased another gorgeous Honda from them. I am very happy with my car and the sales rep. read more

I recently had an atrocious experience with Destination Kia, and MacPhearson Kilmer specifically. To cut to the chase, Mac spent most of his time bragging about how Destination Kia is a "high volume dealership" and the 4th largest Kia dealership in the country, pressured me to put money down on the spot despite me telling him three times that I was not prepared to leave a deposit same-day, he refused to discuss anything with me until I was ready to put money down, and then after I committed to buy and placed the deposit he failed to have the car ready by the promised date. I left a deposit on a Thursday evening, and Mac told me that the car would be ready by noon on Saturday. I didn't hear anything from him on Friday and then Saturday morning around 11:15, less than an hour before pickup and a good way into the hour long drive from my place to the dealership, Mac called to tell me that they weren't able to register the car. When I pointed out that it was less than an hour before our appointment he brushed it off with "well I was trying to call you early, but Saturdays are busy here." Obviously they should have known this on Friday and I should have been notified then. Seeing as my partner and I were already halfway there we stopping in anyway to speak to a manager. After waiting half an hour a guy named Dave came to speak to us and offered absolutely nothing in the way of an apology or committment to make the situation right. To be honest I'm not convinced that he's even in management because his demeanor was terrible and we left more frustrated than we were when we arrived. In the two weeks since then management has not reached out to me or check on the situation. Mac has been in touch several times and it finally came out that the actual sticking point here is that Destination Kia doesn't even have the title for the car, and the two week delay is due to them waiting for a new title. This information wasn't communicated when I looked at the car or left a deposit on the car. Mac's solution has been to try to push more expensive cars on me in the meantime, and asking about negotiating a better deal on those cars to make up for all of the mess he created fell on deaf ears. Fortunately I managed to find a great car that suits my needs at Romeo Kia in Kingston, where my experience was the polar opposite in every way. Once that car was secured my partner left an honest review about our experience and Mac actually had the gall to email me and shame me for leaving a bad review for an issue "completely out of his control". Here's the thing Mac- we get that you can't control the NYS DMV rules, what we're pissed off about is how unprofessional and incompetent you've been throughout the whole process. Learn how to make customers feel like you value their business, my impression is that you felt I should be grateful to be doing business with you and really it's the other way around. read more

I've been going here for fifteen years and it has gone downhill. None of the staff really cares about doing a good job or customer service. Just one example, It took two months of my calling and showing up in person to get them to give my car insurance company basic information so they could pay for a service. The shuttle driver was the last person who was kind and respectful to me and now even he is rude and disconnected. I'll finally be going elsewhere after over a year of this treatment. read more

It was time for my car to be inspected. I went elsewhere since this is simply the worse dealership I've dealt with in my life (see my previous reviews). I need new anti-theft software installed and THIS IS THE LAST PLACE I WANT TOUCHING MY CAR. They are rude and I've been lied to since I bought this car and had service. They scratched my car last time I was in for service and denied it was them that did it. I asked for my car to be inspected only to discover 8 days later they didn't inspect it at all. They are a dealership who likes to push the blame onto their other co-workers. I am 60 years old and have been driving for 42 years and have never, ever had such a bad experience as I have had at this dealership. My sister bought 1 car here and told me that the good customer service ends once you buy the car. Boy was she right. I should have listened to her. WORSE DEALERSHIP I'VE EVER DEALT WITH. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF CLOWNS AND A TOTAL JOKE. Too bad I couldn't speak with the owner directly, but apparently the owners are too busy making stupid commercials to give a crap about their own dealership. I was forced to choose 1 star because there is not an option for zero stars. Recently went to purchase a certified used car, came from an hour away for a test drive. Put a deposit down pending a 2 day wait for bank financing, arrived back 2 days later to purchase the car, only to find out the car had been sold twice. The dealership knew the car was sold and still took my deposit. They admitted to knowing it was sold and then attempted to sell me something different using bait and switch tactics. I will not be using them ever again and am spreading the word. This dealership is the bottom of the barrel. Do not purchase from them! Stay away! read more

To add to this... after the complimentary car wash I noticed some water pooled on the inside of the drivers side door. At the time I did not think anything of it but the next day I noticed that my drivers side door speaker was crackling. Went back to the dealership where they ran it through the car wash again to check for leaks. I noticed that the guy who ran it through went to grab a microfiber cloth before getting into my car and he had it in his hand when he got out! Mysteriously there were no leaks and I told it was just bad luck and that they would replace it for $250! What a joke.... read more

I wouldn't buy a car from a place that treats delivery drivers like trash, including stiffing them on tips. And by stiffing I mean pretending to tip when ordering and retracting it in a perfectly delivered order. This is a trick a small percentage of dishonest people use to get drivers dispatched sooner. Since some orders just don't pay enough for the gas if there is no tip they pretend to be leaving a tip and retract it later. Disgusting. People like that are the stereotype of what you want to avoid in a car dealer. Slimy. And when emailing them I got an its not my department kind of response. If you care about how places really think about others then make a different place money, not this place. read more

2/8/2023 - Update Jim, the service manager called me and we had a great conversation. I scheduled with him to bring my car in again to have some diagnostics. I feel like my concerns have been heard and are being properly addressed. 2/7/2023 - Original Their service department leaves a lot to be desired. I brought my 2019 Kia Soul in because of significantly poor gas mileage - it had dropped from 29 mpg to 24 mpg. I've been driving for over 45 years. Every car I have ever owned before never varied from the it's average by more than 1 or 2 mpg, even in the winter. The service technician was on a phone call when I approached his desk. He kept me waiting close to five minutes without even acknowledging my presence. A quick glance, a nod, or holding up his hand to let me know he knew I was there would have set a much better tone for what followed. I spent another ten minutes trying to get my car checked in for service. At least half that time was spent arguing with him. He repeated a few times several reasons why my car would have poor mileage in the winter, none of which sufficiently explains a significant drop of 5 mpg. The check engine light, which had been on for the past few weeks and was on when I drove it in, was off when he checked it. He wanted to run a quick diagnostic on the history. He kept trying to convince me to not spend the money if there was no obvious reason to. While I appreciate that he wanted to save me money, he completely ignored the fact that I wanted the car checked anyway. He did not respect my decision. Nor did he respect the fact that I had a ride waiting for me and could not hang around waiting. My choice was to leave the car and have it checked, regardless of the cost. I had to tell him that several times. During the entire time I talked with him, he come across as unfriendly and combative. He bordered on rude. They did find that the left rear wheel bearing had a faulty sensor. They had to order the part. I brought my car in a second time when the part came in. When I went to pick up my car, I was surprised to hear music when I started the car. I always turn off the radio before I turn off the engine. The music was coming from a thumb drive in the USB port. I had purposefully removed the thumb drive from the port before dropping off the car. Clearly, the technician re-inserted the thumb drive and turned on my radio. It is totally inappropriate for them to be messing around with the personal effects in my car when it's there for service. read more

Bad Experience with Service Team and Body 2023-2024- in October i noticed some paint issues where rust and paint were flaking off the back lift gate around the window. i had an appointment to get a routine oil change. while in the shop i had the service manager Jim address the paint. it was sent to the body shop where it was sanded and the flaking paint was removed and exposed the bare metal. it was noted then that this was a factory paint error and should be a warranty repair. we brought it to the body shop and spoke with Fred he noted the lift gate had to be removed and the glass removed to fully repair the paint. i agreed and asked them to give me a date to bring it in for repair. they said they would have to draw up an estimate and then they would have service call to schedule the repair. i waited until December with no response. i called a few times and left messages and was informed that the service manager was unavailable due to personal reasons which i understood. around December i finally got ahold of Jim and asked about the repair and we set a date to drop off the vehicle for Jan 15th. i asked about a loaner car as i would be out a vehicle for a week or more and was informed i was not going to get one cause they dont provide them for body work. i only have one vehicle so i decided to purchase a second spare vehicle to get by while my car was in the shop. i dropped the car off monday and they called asking why the car had been dropped off. i then played phone tag all afternoon around my work schedule to inform them i was dropping it off for the scheduled body work they mentioned they do not handle body work in the service shop and my vehicle was not scheduled for service and they could not help me. again i call Jim with no answer and had to call Customer service. Justin in customer service has been the only person to answer or respond in the 3 years i have gone to destination. he went and spoke with all parties and got it scheduled and in the shop. i was assured i would receive a call for update by EOB monday 15th. i got one call from service about how they did not know but would have answers but the end of the day. i heard nothing until i called justin again on wednesay to report i had not gotten a call. the then went to the body shop and spoke with fred and assured me i would be getting a call about the repair work. they mentioned that it may take longer than a week due to the fact that they had to order parts and would have to wait on the parts department. i wondered how they had not been ordered since this was due to be completed since October 4th. so they had 4 months to order and receive parts. i said at this point dont even worry about replacing the emblems if it was going to delay the service. i did not get a call again until friday the 19th when i again had to call justin to ask about status. he was flabbergasted that i had not been called at all since monday by anyone working besides him. he informed me the car body work was complete but needed the oil change still as it had been 4 months since my last oil change due to waiting for them to call. around 4pm i was called and informed that the car would be ready and i had to leave work early drive an hour to pick it up and get someone else to give me a ride due to the 1.5 hour notice that the vehicle was ready. upon seeing the vehicle i did a check and found the repair work was not completed and all they did was dribble some paint poorly into the rust and deviations to where they were still visible. i cold have dont this in my driveway in an afternoon so why would it take 5 days to complete and have to remove the emblems if they did not remove the liftgate remove the glass or complete the repair??? the service advisor and customer service person both are in awe that it was not completed and photos were taken. it is now monday and i have not received a call or message and the work is still incomplete. they didnt even put the new oil change sticker in the car. i know its small but its the little things. every time i have brought it into the shop for service they have either not completed the service, not called, messed something up or gereally not known anything that is supposed to be going on with my vehicle. Destination Kia is the worst place to buy, get service, get body work. and not once has anyone but the customer service person Justin even tried to help. i have not received anything for free or asked i just want the services i pay for and the warranty guarantees that were sold to me whne i purchased the vehicle. what do i do??? Bad Kia experience: my daughter's 3 year Kia Soul got a flat tire (not a worn out tire, cut on a curb). She called Kia roadside assistance they say she's covered. There's no spare (I shoulda known that!) She waits 2 hours! Driver says the call came in only 20 minutes earlier. Then she's charged $90 for the tow! Kia roadside assistance is terrible! read more

Worse experiance I've ever had at a dealership. Was trying to buy out my lease and they gave me such a hard time pushing the date back as far as possible. Sales reps were very inconsiderate of my decision of buying out my lease. Dont go there unless you want your time wasted. read more

Be careful not to get ripped off tried to turn in a 2023 Sportage that was leased by back was 15,000. They tried to rip me off to buy the car for 21,000 not telling me what the buyback was. read more
